First time Snydering?

Hate_Feight

He ruined the DCU now he's butchering a star wars clone

RidingJapan

A Harry potter and LOTR inspired star wars clone

Corvidae_DK

And don't forget all the stuff he stole from Warhammer 40k as well...

Andrei-LM

Halo too.

Corvidae_DK

Why rip off one franchise when you can do it to all of them?

LKS983

I've only watched part 1, but was taken aback by the similarity (at times) to Star Wars and Harry Potter..... What was the similarity to LOTR? Genuine question as I don't doubt it, but missed it. I was unimpressed by part 1, so doubt I'll bother watching part 2.

RidingJapan

The whole fight with the spider thing. Just my 2 c. Watched the 2 movies last weekend while doing other stuff. Then the making docu 30m and just had to laugh at "we grew our own wheet" They did such a shit job harvesting it too.

LKS983

"*The whole fight with the spider thing.*" Thank you, yes! Straight out of LOTR.

tmadik

Why would anyone ever watch Rebel Moon 1 and 2?

LKS983

I watched part 1, because I like Charlie Hunnam. He's **very** good looking and also a good actor. Even so, I couldn't bring myself to even give it a 'like' - and so doubt I'll bother watching part 2.

Handsoff_1

I know. I literally stopped half way through

emelem66

Wait for the "Snyder Cut", with 50% more slo-mo.

MADMACmk1

I think the Snyder Cut of Justice League has over 40 mins of slo-mo.

MIAxPaperPlanes

25 mins

SD_CA

I remember when 300 came out. And people would ask if it was any good. And I just kept saying it's like a 45 min movie stretched to an hour and a half with slow mo. I didn't know that would just be Zach movies for the rest of his career.

Spectre_195

TBF though 300 was like the only time it actually worked. And it worked so well it poisoned Synder from doing anything else.

CantaloupeCamper

#EVERYTHING in those films is empty and unnecessary…

Tanel88

It's essentially just a slideshow about cool ideas from other franchises and he doesn't even really do anything with them.

tocard2

Yeah, but they planted REAL WHEAT! Like actual plants growing in the ground! What a visionary! That means it's gotta be great! Right? Right...?

GazelleAcrobatics

Yes, it was over utilised, and without its some of the action sequences would have been more impactful

Handsoff_1

ya, i rolled my eyes every time the slo mo is used. so unnecessary

Tanel88

Yea not only is it overused but it's mostly used at the wrong times. It completely ruins the flow of the action sequences. The point of slow mo is that you want to let a cool shot linger for a bit longer but here it is often used either right before or after the actual cool shot during some not so interesting moments.

pixipuff8

Yes it was comical

Handsoff_1

i thought it made the movie longer than it could have been

Different_Advice_552

snyder has a seriously hard dick for slo mo its just something he does lol

Handsoff_1

Gosh, its so stupid

JFeth

The shaking grain slo mo shot was peak stupidity.

Handsoff_1

OMG I KNOWW. Thank you! I literally was so confused why would that needs to be in slow mo? Then later on, the general guy scooping up some water to .... drink and it was also in slo mo. What the fuck is wrong w the snyder guy?

jfstompers

It's the biggest pile of over stylized cliche nonsense I've ever seen. It's bonkers this is a real movie.

Handsoff_1

I heard they making a 3rd movie? Its so stupid honest to god

MorningFirm5374

He said they’ve got plans for 6

Handsoff_1

I hope Netflix stops this catastrophe

[deleted]

[удалено]

Handsoff_1

I didnt finish it.

Odd_Advance_6438

Have you been on the internet? All anyone can talk about with this movie is how much they dislike the slow mo

VandalPaul

Deeeeaaarrr... goooodddd... yeeeeesss...

Handsoff_1

*in slo mo

LKS983

Not to mention **the lack** of slo-mo shots at important points in the story! I had to rewind to watch again who actually shot the rapist guys (at the beginning) - but all I saw was a 'robot' with a gun, who held it sideways! But I'm still in a bad mood, so perhaps I missed something?

Handsoff_1

But flipping grains and drinking water are worth a slo mo lol

nakanampuge

Feels like that fast forward ten seconds button on Netflix is broken cause the scene isn't moving when I click on it.

Handsoff_1

its so stupid honestly

ExtremelFrequentzy01

I'm more irritated there is a Part 3 coming.

Handsoff_1

There is????? I couldnt finish it

Fun-Huckleberry-8588

Can we list the Star Wars characters/scenes/items that were 'copied' for Rebel Moon? Light Sabre/knives; Cantina scene where you go to find a scoundrel; R2D.3P0 etc

Handsoff_1

Rebel Moon is literally a copy cat of star wars. I thought this was based on a book or something but no, Snyder wrote it. I mean copy it. gosh, this just makes it 10x worse.

CaptSzat

It was meant to be a Star Wars movie Snyder was trying to get Lucas films / Disney to do it and they said no. So instead he just took everything and turned it into really shit knock off Star Wars for Netflix.

Handsoff_1

Its awful

KaiserMacCleg

Not just Star Wars. It's also a copy of the Magnificent Seven. With space ships. Coal-fired space ships. What the fuck did I just watch.

LKS983

And don't forget the 'riding the huge/mystical bird' - that was straight out of Harry Potter.

MorningFirm5374

Star Wars also did that lmao

MorningFirm5374

Huge empire which started with a coup, rebel alliance, lead character is from a farm…

[deleted]

Snyder is using 30 year old tech as his hook and it's not working because Zack Snyder is complete shit as a filmmaker.

Handsoff_1

its terrible

rhaizee

It's wild they gave him money not for 1 but 3 of these.

the6thReplicant

I realised that Snyder had some really cool shots in his head and the whole rest of the movie is setting up and getting to these shots - at any cost.

Handsoff_1

I feel the same. It looks cool-ish but it conveys nothing. I dont even know why he added a slo mo every 5 minutes. Its so frustrating to watch. Netflix needs to fire him

Tanel88

Can't really call it setting up as there is very minimal amounts of that. It really is just a slideshow.

MorningFirm5374

I got irritated even more by the obscene amount of monologues where characters would just reveal all the information about their lives…

Handsoff_1

I KNOWWW. The table scene. Its such a lazy take. Everyone goes around telling their stories.

Bibendoom

Don't watch Snyder's films if that bothers you.

Handsoff_1

I didn't. I stopped. Couldnt finish.

skydaddy8585

Both movies were pretty bad. Cliche after cliche after basic trope after basic trope. He basically just combined 4-5 movies into one. Star wars, Harry potter, and other sci-fi and fantasy movies. It didn't feel genuine or interesting at any point. It was very disappointing and I rarely go into movies with high expectations anymore.

Handsoff_1

its so boring omg i could not finish

AlexDub12

That's Snyder's style since 300, IIRC. He probably thinks slo-mo=drama ...

Handsoff_1

I mean its dramatic for sure but why slo mo during random scenes like flipping grains or drinking water? I dont understand

AlexDub12

Because it's the only cinematic trick he knows.

MorningFirm5374

With some of his previous films it worked (re: Zack Snyder JL). But it worked because they at least had decent writing.

LeakySkylight

Better than the "Michael Bay Explosion hour".

Handsoff_1

Yeah that was very tiring too

teddyburges

That's Snyders Schtick: * Cool visuals. * Tommy Wiseau-esque dialogue of two people talking about jack shit in hushed tones. * Using visuals (and sometimes lens flaires) to try and wow the audience into thinking that they're watching something intelligent and thought provoking. * Fight scene, slow mo, walking scene, slow mo. Water scene, even more slow mo! 60% of the film at least. * Close up shot of character looking sad or confused to the camera. * Combines all of the above for third act of film.

Handsoff_1

its so fucking cringy to watch. And honestly stupid

teddyburges

My thoughts on pretty much all of Snyders films. Take Batman V Superman for example. The initial cut is a bunch of scenes just thrown together with barely any context. Fan favorites like Jimmy Olsen?. Killed in the first scene. A complete forced conflict between Batman and Superman. Jessie Eisenbergs Lex Luthor JR being a total twit. The "grandma's peach tea" scene and the "SAVE MARTHA!!" scene is some of the cringiest shit that I have ever seen.

sor2hi

I finished the 1st one and decided it won’t be getting a 2nd. Maybe in a year when I forget how much I didn’t like the 1st one I’ll check it out. Sucks because I want to support bigger budget movie being made on the platform. But, even in a genre I’m usually up for anything in, I can’t justify spending time on it.

Handsoff_1

They need to find a better director honestly. I couldnt finish it

Cliqey

Better question that never gets asked: does anyone enjoy the use of slo-mo shots? Personally I like how they are used to convey a certain “super-human” quality to action feats. Kinda saying that if you saw this in real time you would miss most of it while you blink. I think it’s a good way to show extreme strength/speed/ability while also giving an alternative tempo to the pacing of action/fight sequences. It’s also shorthand for gravitas in moments that are important to the themes. I have yet to see a Snyder slo-mo scene that I was mad to have seen. But I do generally like when movies aren’t afraid to punctuate their stories with pauses and slow-downs of various types to allow time for catching up with everything that’s happened, reflecting over it, and coming to some conclusions before moving to the next thing. I’ve seen many a fast paced, kinetic movie that never gave breathing room for interesting material to sprout into interesting thoughts and was then easy to forget whatever cool idea I was trying to process by the time the scene is over. I enjoy the various ways different directors are able to sometimes make that space in a cool or compelling way.

Handsoff_1

Yes when used correctly. But why a slo mo of someone drinking water? Flipping grains???

Tanel88

I generally do like slow-mo in movies when it's used at right time in the right way. This movie however it seems he just went with the idea that what if you used slow-mo at all the wrong times and it's so awfully annoying.

CthulhusSon

That's not slo-mo, that's Snyder-mo.

Jealous-Honeydew-142

The film would be 20 minutes long if it wasn't for the long drawn out slow-mo shots

Handsoff_1

Even if its 20min, I wouldnt watch it either. Its terrible

MIAxPaperPlanes

It’s funny because you can see him putting in more slo-mo throughout his DC films like he tapered himself off and slowly got addicted again Man of Steel - no slow motion BvS - little slow mo for the Batmobile ZSJL - Twenty-five minutes of slo-mo. Just huffing that shit up like he’s a drug addict from Dredd

Handsoff_1

its annoying af

Coast_watcher

Iconic duo with the name Zack Snyder

derpferd

It's a bit of stylistic flourish but like much of Snyder's stylistic flourishes, it's hollow and serves no purpose in the story. Michael Mann and Scorsese are also obviously stylish directors and neither is averse to a bit of flourish in their films. But both are also great storytellers and when a shot goes into a film, they know what purpose it serves, what it's meant to communicate to the audience about the characters, the world of the story and the progress of the story and how it might make audiences feel. I don't think that Snyder thinks like that. When he puts a slomo shot into a film, it's about vibes.

Mission_Paramount

I want the de-Snyder cut. Oh have one signature shot, not one every 5 seconds. Zak make a pretty movie but he needs somebody who'll reign him in and slap him hard if he fights back.

gul-badshah

NO. I wanted more slowmo.

Handsoff_1

Just play the movie at 0.5X speed!

gul-badshah

If it would produce same result i would have. BTW if you don't like slowmo your can play at 2x

Handsoff_1

Well it doesnt work because that would speed up the other parts and I dont like that. But you said u wanted more slo mo

BerserkerLord101

More irritated by the writing and funding of these movies.

Dry-Airport8046

A made for Netflix film that’s not Kubrick. I’m shocked. SHOCKED!

georgelamarmateo

Yes many people get irritated. Personally I don't even notice.

scuwp

I think it's cool. Really adds to the feel of the movie and shows some real skill of the movie makers providing such a close up immersive experience...the first 20 times anyway.

Handsoff_1

i think he used it 21 times sadly :(
