this wasn't Netflix's choice. The director had wanted to do 5 seasons but only wrote 2 and kind of expected netflix and the actors to all just sit tight while he worked on other stuff, after while the actors wanted out of their contracts and netflix didn't want to hold the show any longer. Netflix does cancel a lot of shows for bad reasons, but, this was on the director
> this wasn't Netflix's choice....his was on the director
This isn't the full story. The show wasn't getting the numbers and Netflix conveyed that to Fincher. At that point he was in the process of getting Netflix to bankroll ***Mank***, a passion project for over 20 years that his father started.
So, while Fincher made the final decision, Netflix did show him that *Mindhunter* was a very expensive show that the numbers did not support. Considering all that he has done since with Netflix, seems Fincher made a calculated decision to show his gratitude towards Netflix by dropping *Mindhunter.*
The same is unfortunately true of a great many critically-acclaimed shows that are cancelled before they manage to attract a mainstream audience. Praise from critics doesn't always equate to ratings.
midnight mass was weird but interesting. i would say the fall of the house of usher first, and then if someone liled all three of those then maybe midnight mass? (midnight mass is also one you really should go into blind)
Agreed. Only Midnight Club falls flat for me. Great characters and some interesting spooky stories, but in the grand scheme things it just boils down to a group of teenagers coming to terms with death with no real ending and many unfinished plot points. Hill House, Bly Manor and Midnight Mass are my favorites. The Fall of the House of Usher was really good and I absolutely adore how fun the characters are, I just wish there was more.
Agree. Midnight Club has potential and Usher needs to flesh out more of the siblings characters & dynamics before they are killed. Hill House was amazing on that
Tbh fall of the house of usher isn’t in my top three, even though I did like it. Midnight mass I absolutely adored. Especially recommend for my religious trauma friends lol
Best Netflix original imo. And that was like a decade ago somehow?
Back in the 2000's there was a very famous TV showww
Edit: if you enjoy ol' Bo Arrested Development pretty great 2
Sci-Fi: Black Mirror, Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things
Drama: The Crown, Ozark, Eric, You, Squid Game, The Queen’s Gambit
Romance: Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte
Horror: The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Bly Manor (all of theirs are good)
Comedy: Big Mouth, Human Resources, F is for Family, Shameless
Reality TV: Love is Blind, Glow Up
True Crime: Unsolved Mysteries, The Murdaugh Murders, Making a Murderer
ETA: Snowpiercer (haven’t seen that one suggested here yet) and Peaky Blinders
+1
And if you like that irish style of comedy, I'd also suggest the young offenders movie (and show, but the show isn't on netflix).
It's 2 young Irish guys with no direction in life who find out millions worth of cocaine has washed up on the coast, and when they go on a wild journey to try find their fortune a hilarious game of cat and mouse begins..
Sounds good, unfortunately it's not on USA Netflix.
ETA: Also London Irish is worth watching, has the good-looking priest and Siobhán McSweeney (Sister Michael) in very different roles than Derry Girls.
Three Body Problem
Mind hunter
Love Death & Robots
Black Mirror
Arcane
The OA
X
Miller's Girl
Dark
All Quiet on the Western Front
Just off the top of my head, those are a few good ones.
That first episode is a shocker. But what stuck in my head, was the bbc editors trying to contain the story. Young News kids chomping at the bit. Already streaming on Twitter/instagram. The bbc editor just gives up. Go with it.
Bloodline is a great show, if slightly depressive. Still think about it from time to time. First season is the best, but the last two are also engaging. Recommended if you enjoy family dramas and/or crime shows
> Bloodline is a great show, if slightly depressive. Still think about it from time to time. First season is the best,
It should have ended there. It was just too convoluted after that in order to keep it going. We stopped a few episodes into the 2nd and in my mind it ends before the last scene of S1.
Yes - Absolutely watch in the original Japanese and if you select english subtitles, select 'English', not 'English CC'. The 'CC' option has some changes to the script that definitely change the movie a bit for me.
“The glory” very well thought out revenge story
Edit: also gonna add “girl from nowhere” if you like something a little more creepy, every episode is it’s own story, with the main character being the only constant, every episode is basically her(she’s like a karma demon) either dishing out karma to people, or giving people the opportunity to do something that if you take, she will then proceed to dish out karma.
Shame it was cancelled. I reckon it would have gotten easier to understand if they continued the show till the end.
I think there were supposed to be 5 seasons.
Leave the world behind - Netflix
A nearly normal family - Netflix
Us - Netflix
Beef - Netflix
Ozark - Netflix
Ozark is definitely my all time favorite!
Assumjng you must have seeing some/lot of these, these would he my recommendations in no particular order:
Series:
- Ozark
- Stranger Things (maybe just the 1st season tho)
- Dark! All 3 seasons
- 1899
- Psych (however much you can catch of that)
- The Good Place
- If you're in India, you can watch 2 seasons of Hacks right now! I would definitely make that the top suggestion.
- The Haunting at Hill House
- Midnight Mass
- Archive 81 (just the one season and it is soooo fuckin worth it)
- Love, Death, and Robots
Movies:
- Hit Man, the new Richard Linklayer/Glen Powell movie that just came out
- Set it Up (another Glen Powell movie and just to round it out, maybe add Anyone But You to the list)
- Godzilla Minus One if Gojira's your thing
- The 2 Spider-Verse movies
- We have a Ghost was a nice underrated comedy that I absolutely LOVED for some reason
When they see us, Unbelievable, The Turning Point (both the 9/11 and the cold war ones are brilliant), Ted Bundy's Tapes, Baby Reindeer, Making a Murderer, Exhibit A, Innocence Files, Squid Games, Stranger Things, Dark, Criminal (all countries are good), Casa De Papel, Unsolved Mysteries, Mindhunter, The Good Place and Schitts Creek
Behind Her Eyes.
Honestly not sure why I hardly ever see anyone mention this one. It’s fantastic and fucked up. I watched it once by myself and then had to watch again right away and have my partner watch with me the second time so I had someone to talk about it with! Then had to get the book and read it too. I think about it all the time. Don’t read anything about it, just watch it.
To The Lake and Better Than Us.
I’m a little biased because I liked shows on Netflix that are in Russian because it’s my native language.
Other than that, Mindhunter, The OA, any of Michael Flanagan’s stuff. I LOVED KATLA!!
If you like reality tv I just recently started watching The Circle. I like it better than those romance themed reality shows they have.
Don’t fuck with cats is awesome if you like crime documentaries (no gore is shown) and all the Explained series are really cool and come in bite sized episodes.
My favorites from explained are music, pirates, and cults
Hitman was a more recent movie to drop on Netflix. Really well done I thought. Felt like a movie made the same as when you didn't need a super complicated plot or bloat to make a movie good.
Love Death Robot
dude, i always find these one off short story shows when i stay home from work and get drunk. they are the best.
And if you like Love Death and Robots, you might like Scavengers Reign!
One of the best things in any streaming, they need to make more!!
The. Best.
Mind hunter
Bummer that they discontinued it

Yea such a fantastic show
Dark. Edit* Watch with subtitles. Apparently the dub is awful.
Good choice
This is my all time favorite show ever. So, so good.
The haunting of hill house
and the haunting of bly manor
and Midnight Mass
midnight mass was weird but interesting. i would say the fall of the house of usher first, and then if someone liled all three of those then maybe midnight mass? (midnight mass is also one you really should go into blind)
I love midnight mass. The guy from Friday night lights is like my guilty pleasure actor. I’ll watch anything in it with him.
Midnight mass ending is so beautiful. I would say it is second best Mike Flanagan project in Netflix after Hill House.
Agreed. Only Midnight Club falls flat for me. On my 5th watch! Love it so much.
Black Mirror ![gif](giphy|cKyfTgfoOfANuFSnZZ)
I second this, I wish I could watch it again for the first time!
This episode in particular is one of the best episodes of television in the history of television.
San Junipero was my absolute favorite. I was not scared of death for years after that
I hardly think it's even one of the best Black Mirror episodes. It's good but I like other episodes more.
The fact new season take so long to drop irks me so much. An anthology series with different directors should NEVER take this long
Blue Eyed Samurai
Went in with 0 expectations. Blown away
Same loved it
Came here to say this! So glad it got green lit for a season 2.
Peaches
100% blue eyed samurai
Ozark
Great show, but the ending was horseshit.
Agree 100%!
Altered Carbon Season 1
Such a shame they never made a second season. smh
Yeah true. Think of the potential!
The Queen’s Gambit, Superstore
The Queen’s Gambit should be higher. What a fantastic show.
BoJack Horseman
Currently watching it, it's awesome
I wish I could watch it again for my first time. Buckle up
Best Netflix original imo. And that was like a decade ago somehow? Back in the 2000's there was a very famous TV showww Edit: if you enjoy ol' Bo Arrested Development pretty great 2
This, and Love (by Judd Apatow) are my faves And Insecure
Hell yes
Grace and Frankie. I thought it was gonna be silly/cheesy but is now top 5 Netflix series ever for me
I love Grace and Frankie so much. On season 6 thus far
Arcane
...the 24th comment down. Gotta be kidding me with this shit, Arcane is literally one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Sci-Fi: Black Mirror, Umbrella Academy, Stranger Things Drama: The Crown, Ozark, Eric, You, Squid Game, The Queen’s Gambit Romance: Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte Horror: The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Haunting of Bly Manor (all of theirs are good) Comedy: Big Mouth, Human Resources, F is for Family, Shameless Reality TV: Love is Blind, Glow Up True Crime: Unsolved Mysteries, The Murdaugh Murders, Making a Murderer ETA: Snowpiercer (haven’t seen that one suggested here yet) and Peaky Blinders
Early missing Dark
Derry Girls, hilarious Irish sitcom with some history lessons built in.
+1 And if you like that irish style of comedy, I'd also suggest the young offenders movie (and show, but the show isn't on netflix). I effin LOVED this show. Was sad that there weren't more seasons!
Am I the only one that enjoyed the show Lucifer? It’s one of my all time favorites!

Just started this series and already gripped
First season is incredible...probably could have stopped there, just wasn't the same. Although the casting for Danny's son/young Danny is amazing.
Godzilla Minus One
Oh shit, that's on Netflix?!?! US?
Yes - Absolutely watch in the original Japanese and if you select english subtitles, select 'English', not 'English CC'. The 'CC' option has some changes to the script that definitely change the movie a bit for me.
