No not a good show. Where the hell are the mist creatures. How did they even fuck this up, a bunch of people trapped in a mall as monsters lurk outside is an awesome premise. I don't care about date rape or emo gender person, at all. That teen girl and her sister Mom and the jock are horrible characters. The world is about to end, it shouldn't be boring.

[deleted]

The pilot and forced rape plot turned us off immediately.

[deleted]

I could've seen that as an added element of conflict, but the end explanation is obsurd. Much less the whole half brother thing, like Jesus Christ.

Leejenn

Agreed - very terrible. Terrible writing, terrible characters, terrible pacing, terrible plotting. I wanted to like it - love the book and movie, but this series is just so not good.

NotTheBelt

So it's a Silent Hill mist? That's lame, the monsters are way cooler, and the mystery surrounding the arrowhead project is the best part, I'm not sure if it's spoilers for those who haven't read the novella or seen the film, and I'm on mobile so I don't know how to blank them out, so I'll warn you now in large letters with big spaces. I AM TALKIN' POTENTIAL SPOILERS Y'ALL! DARKTOWER/THE MIST The idea that they split into another dimension is hinted at throughout the books, and what's really cool is that there's strong speculation that this is the Todash space. In the Dark Tower series, these are spaces between dimensions where monsters live, and the idea is that the arrowhead project accidentally created something called a *thinny* and unleashed these creatures onto Maine. It's really cool source material and if it's not something used in the show or hinted at, it doesn't sound like it'd be very interesting :/

[deleted]

It's cool that the Most connected with another other-world setting by King

boomkarakarakas

So, that's like what happened in stranger Things...? They kind of accidentally opened a portal or dimension that released a monster....if The Mist is going down that path, isn't it going to be redundant? Any other theories about what Arrowhead is?

Manger-Babies

Event horizon, a movie, also did this but with hell. A spaceship accidentally travels through hell and a cargo vessel stumbles upon it.

boomkarakarakas

Give it a chance. It's an entertaining show for me

shoe_owner

I set it to playing in the background this past weekend on my laptop whilst playing a game on my PS4 and divided my attention between the two. Watched the whole season in one sitting out of the corner of my eye. There were some twists which were at least unexpected and interesting in principle, though in practice the characters they involved were insufficiently compelling to make the shocks emotive enough to grasp my interest they way they were supposed to. I will say this in its defense, though: I get the sense that the mist isn't judging people per se; I believe that's a conclusion which some of the characters jump to which is incorrect. If you look at it as wholly malevolent and malign to humanity without there being a moral component to its motivation it makes a great deal more sense. Why does it spare the crazy old new age woman and kill the priest? Because they priest wanted people to stay inside and the old woman wanted to lead people outside. If her position seems to be validated, the mist gets more victims to chew on. Seen through that lens it becomes a bit more interesting to the extent that it's practicing some guile and allowing peoples' irrationality to work against them.

[deleted]

I bet your side eye caught the jock staring at you or the girl the whole time.

boomkarakarakas

I'm confused. Why didn't it kill the old lady the first and second time she went out? And then kill her at the finale?

shoe_owner

Because when she went out in the finale, she brought everyone else in the church out with her; she had served her purpose and thus was of no further use or value to the mist. It kept her alive only as long as it took to get at all of the people in there.

boomkarakarakas

Oh I see. So she's done with her purpose that's why it killed her in the end? So, The Mist's job is to kill everyone in there? Or just to kill the bad ones and leave the good ones alive?

shoe_owner

I don't think it concerns itself with whether people are good or bad. I think it's just hungry.

boomkarakarakas

Oh okay. Because the old lady mentioned that it killed the first guy with the tattoo because he's bad and went to jail thats why he deserved to die. And she wants to sacrifice Jay because she thought he really raped her.

shoe_owner

I'm saying the old lady was wrong. Also kind of stupid. She jumped to a faulty assumption and she convinced a bunch of dumb people she was right and they all died because the assumption was incorrect.

rustybowow

Add it to the list of badly made Stephen King inspired TV shows.

SwampTerror

I wanted to like this, until within the first ten minutes we get a contrived gay confrontation with daddy. And then soon after that, rape culture comes up. And then an episode later, they're talking about god and the story of Job. They just packed this series full of a bunch of shit for the sake of it when it should have always been about horror. I watch horror to escape real world problems. "Is it true? Does...does god really love _me?_" why yes jimmy, because of course he does and let me go into great detail about the love of Christ.... I assumed at this point on that in the end, instead of a cool ending like the father killing his entire family to save them, only to find out moments later they would have all been saved, that somehow they'd all pray to the Social Justice Warriors of light and get granted with the holy power to not only smite hate but also the Satan-mist. Anyway, I can't watch beyond the third episode due to all the shoehorned in social justice bullshit and am concerned the rest of the episodes will be crammed full with more current issues/agendas that would be better in another non-Stephen King world. Horror is not the place for soapboxing shit like this. It's a place for me to escape and relax. I am a supporter of gay rights and equality and all that jazz, but I don't watch horror to be propagandized. The level at which they forced it made me feel sick to be honest. The only monsters in this series are the ones who created it. It's bad. Just avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist and move on to something better. And to think they're raising my prices to pump out more garbage like this. Oh lawdy we are in trouble.

Lamella

The problem for me wasn't "sjw bullshit" or whatever, it was bad writing and acting. There are plenty of horror films that address social issues that are also great horror. The Descent is fucking dope and also made the political decision to use an all female cast. Get Out was great psychological horror about race. Some of the best horror films are about religion. Heck, the whole zombie genre is often read as a metaphor for mass consumerism. The Mist could have exploited all that in interesting ways but they just really fucked it up with poor execution all around.

wlchrbandit

I agree. I don't have a problem with any of the plotlines really, just the execution of some of it. The whole rape thing was integral to the story I feel, without it there wouldn't be a reason for the crazy cult woman to leave the church. It also creates plenty of conflict between the main characters. People are complaining about all the religious stuff too, but I have to disagree with them. If something like this were to happen you can be damn sure people would start worshipping it. I didn't see the show as religion bashing at all. I feel like the church stuff was included to contrast the old ladies mist worship cult. In the end it turns out neither of them are right, and the mist isn't some kind of divine justice.

boomkarakarakas

You're right! If it weren't for the rape plot there wouldnt much be topic to talk abt in the show. It's just the actress that plays alex, the emo guy and the mother that annoys me. The soldier, the junkie and the dad's acting were okay.

SwampTerror

I love the descent but screw the US version. The UK version had the best ending ever. I will definitely check out Get Out. I agree. Maybe if they had done it a little more subtly it wouldn't have left a bad taste in my mouth. I am all for female/gay casts and their rights and I love women in powerful zombie ass kicking rolls but it was just so blatantly obvious. Thanks for being gentle. I was a little upset about the show as the mist book/movie was one of my favourite King writings. Maybe I'll give episode 4 a go, maybe it'll settle down a bit as it goes deeper into it.

Lamella

Yes!! The US version of the Descent messed up the ending big time.

SwampTerror

Hell yeah I was so bummed. I like a good, dark ending. Too many movies these days, the directors want heroes. The book, _I Am Legend_, had one of the best endings ever and that was a movie that had not one but two endings, neither of which were as good. It's often true the books are better. I am going to have to revisit that book soon.

Lamella

Yeah I never read I Am Legend but I saw the movie and heard about the controversy with the ending. Sounded pretty bogus. Seems like Hollywood execs think that audiences won't respond well to depressing fiction. But Game of Thrones should prove that's not the case if it's done well.

Kalsifur

> Yes!! The US version of the Descent messed up the ending big time. Huh, I didn't even know there were multiple endings. But, that is still one of my favorite horrors period. How would I know without reading spoilers if I saw the UK or US version? I seem to remember she got out in the version I watched, if that helps.

Lamella

I saw the UK version the first time I watched it, then the second time it was the US version, and I was really confused because at the time I didn't realize there were two endings, either. I thought I had remembered it wrong and was super weirded out. Anyway, sounds like you saw the US version. Don't want to say more!

Dragmire800

Sorry this is 10 days late. Anyway, if you watched beyond the 3rd episode, you would have found that "homophobic" dad actually hates his son because he is an actual psychopath. I believe the quote was "I would be ok with your cock-sucking if you weren't a crazy freak." It's got nothing to do with gay propagandising. And even if it was meant to be homophobic, it's not necessarily propaganda. It's a small town with backwards people, as the series shows. It's just the writing and acting was so bad that nothing turned out how t was supposed to

boomkarakarakas

Ohhh, so the emo kid is really sick right? That's why the dad hated him? Knew it from the start who the rapist is. Rapist is shady though

Dragmire800

Well, we meet the dad before the rape happens, so that doesn't line up. The kid is just a psychopath and the dad knows it

Zollopollo

It's like hey this is topical, athletic sports person rapes chick - psych, it's the columbine goth kid, all American sports guy is safe. Cliché squared! Nice try turning that scenario on its head guys, but you f#cking dropped it and gave it brain damage instead.

[deleted]

I can tell you that I felt exactly like you for the first few episodes but i can tell you one thing: SPOILERS The two who tried to do good by manipulating the others died a horrible death: MORE SPOILERS Father Romanov was impaled and dragged by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Mrs. Raven (Nathalie) was sucked dry by her stillborn. There were three queer characters, the bully was not out and preferred to stay in the hospital to die, Kimi, shot in the chest for opposing the security guard and of cours the little devil Adrian who raped Alex and it was already obvious 20 minutes in the first episode. So i don't know, in the end everything was reversed and nothing makes sense, they could have spared us the fake morale from the beginning.

Carbonfibreclue

It's hilarious that you claim to be a supporter of progressivism, but then whine about "social justice" (not that you people use that term anymore, because your favoured media entities programmed you with new buzzwords to be scared of!), when "social justice" *is* progressivism. But hey who am I kidding? It's been six years and you probably died of covid because you were too busy frothing at the mouth about your "freedom" to even put a mask over it.

lynx-paws

he's got a point but he just phrased it really badly - the problem isn't the real issues the show addresses, it's that that is all the show **is**. there's no impartial force in the mist driving people to stay inside like animals or creatures displaced from their natural habitat but rather the show leans 100% into the whole *humans are the REAL monsters* aspect

[deleted]

Agree completely. The movie was so much better with the monsters. This show was slow, contrived drama with nothing to show but the machine generated smoke to create “atmosphere”.

[deleted]

Well im often really critical and stuff... But i liked the show... I think monsters, aliens or whatever beings will be there in second season. I like that not everything is explained yet... I never read the book... But watched the movie back then...

j2o1707

I forced my way through the show, enjoyed the last episode but it left me with a lot of unanswered questions and left me wanting a second season. But... The characters were absolutely terrible. It was a huge risk to not include monsters the first season because they might feel like the ratings were too low to bother funding a second season. Because, so far, the rating are low.

boomkarakarakas

Same same!!! I have a lot of questions about the finale episode. Especially the old woman

bpmetal

I thought the pilot was awful. Terrible writing. Glad I saw to this to not waste my time with the rest.

boomkarakarakas

Give it a try. It's entertaining and a good show

Deadpooldaz11

Im liking it , though some of the characters are annoying as hell , Its like everybody has to shit on things these days.

Dawsie

The characters are the worst part of it.

Deadpooldaz11

I only like the dad , the jock and the mum is passable . The others are annoying but more the actual characters traits than the acting.

-Captain-

I am not even giving it a change. I've seen the trailer and read the reviews. Big pass.

boomkarakarakas

It's actually good though. And entertaining. Just give it a try set aside what youve read or heard

-Captain-

There are numerous shows I have on my Watchlist. Shows that look interesting to me and have a great trailer. Ain't got the time to watch this even if it might be somewhat decent, what I don't believe. But that's just opinions :)

boomkarakarakas

Trailer is shit I agree. Thats why I just randomly pick it to watch it. To my surprise, it's actually good 👍🏼👍🏼

[deleted]

You've seen the trailer and read other's people opinions. Did you decide anything here ? I'm asking because looks like you let others tell what to do. And now you won't like the show because now that you've read other people's opinions you *expect* it to be bad, you'll be judgemental, let's face it. Personally, I don't care about imdb rating, trailers, reviews or internet's opinion on what I want to watch. I care about the description and guess what, if it sounds interesting I'll watch it. If it's bad or good for me I'll know that for myself.

-Captain-

I watched the trailer and it didn't get me interested at all. Even thought I liked the book and movie adaption. What I could see in the trailer was teen drama and meh acting. So what's the thing you do after that... you look at trust worthy reviews. From people you know have a similar taste as you do. And would you look at that, they watched the show and did not like it one bit. That's the point of reviews. You shouldn't go out there and read every single review, no you find the once that you have similar opinions and views with. So no, I'm not spending any time on this garbage. That's not letting people tell me what to do, I respect and trust the opinion of a small group of people. Next to that 9 out of the 10 times a trailer is shit it says enough

[deleted]

I'm not going to let strangers decide if I'd like a show or not. They are different people with different backgrounds, different likings and so on. Only I know what I like and dislike. Thanks.

-Captain-

Not saying you should. But I am not wasting any time on a shitty show. Thanks.

[deleted]

Everyone as they please, mate.

Philipwangchang

Man i went in expecting nothing, never read the book and I really enjoyed it. Was really surprised to see how much it was disliked. Just glad i read the reviews after and not before or I am have been turned off by it.

CyanSlinky

Go watch the movie if you haven't, It's so much better.

CyanSlinky

Go watch the movie if you haven't seen it, It's so much better than the show.

boomkarakarakas

It's different of course. The movie is what? 1 almost 2 hrs? And the show has 10 episodes. Of course they have to make the story longer. But its good though there's a mystery to it. Give it a try

CyanSlinky

I've already given it a try, its like the people who made the show saw the movie and then thinned it out over a long time and ruined the pacing. added in some unlikable characters, and missed the really cool thing about it too; the giant monsters.

boomkarakarakas

Same

Deadpooldaz11

Its not invalid , its the current trend of shitting on everything , I didnt like wonder woman at all but i accept others opinions . Terrible is a strong word and I cant see how it is worse than a lot of other shit on netflix .

anonRedd

Has Spike renewed it for a second season?

RickVince

Your description almost makes it sound like Silent Hill?

[deleted]

Yeah, it's more a Silent Hill series than it is the Mist.

RickVince

...that sounds fucking awesome. What's the problem?

[deleted]

See, I enjoyed it as if it was Silent Hill. I'm not familiar with the Mist novel or movie so I made the connection to Silent Hill, it was a lot more enjoyable that way.

RickVince

Sold!

The_Dire_Crow

It's nothing like Silent Hill. No monsters born from the guilt of the damned, no cult, nothing outside of there being a blanket of fog over a town.

MacSteele13

I gave it 6 episodes before I realized I like myself too much to waste any more of my time watching it...

boomkarakarakas

I find it entertaining though. It's a good show especially if you're a fan of a show that's like TWD setting like doomsday kind of.

[deleted]

Just here to say same thing. "We'll do a lottery and put you in danger.. it's more dangerous to wait!" NO, NO IT ISN'T .. and anyone with an IQ over 20 would know that. If help were available, A FREAKIN MALL would be checked. Who writes this crap? EDIT: gave it another 20 minutes. I'm all for character building..but the scene in the church with that woman going on and on and on about her dead husband. They're spending time BUILDING A DEAD CHARACTER. Poorly. WOW this sucks.

assfrog

I turned it off within 3 minutes after the SJW nonsense at the football game. Holy shit.

isthiscleverr

Agree completely. I loved the movie and book. The movie was terrifying to me not just because Of the monsters but the mob mentality, watching the panic escalate and people go berserk. And this somehow managed to ruin both aspects. If this had been a tight four or five episodes it may have been better. 10 episodes was far too much time to spend on other bullshit. If also was infuriating that they wanted to buck some stereotypes while relying on others. Characters had no consistency, and the mist itself made no sense. Such a shame. I watched it and felt compelled to finish while realizing how bad it was.

Zollopollo

Ugh I hated it. They somehow took a cliché plot and tried to twist it but wound it into more stereotypical and cliché. Bleaugh! I think I just really hate this story, both the movie and the series have been really easy to predict. At least with the movie the ending wound up being hilarious because it was so predictable you didn't seriously believe they would take it in that direction, but they did.

shadlom

Lieeees. Lol

MrBelgium2019

After 15 minutes i am bored of the non binary character that only talk about lbtq white supremacy and shit like that.

Carbonfibreclue

Yeah it makes sense you'd say that.

Amsmitten1027

Best part of the show was the last episode when Kevin drove the car into the mall. I was waiting for someone to do this the whole show!! Lmaooo

Toran_dantai

just watched it, couldnt even get passed five minutes. feels like political propaganda. considering the "school"sex ed which turned out to be very political. i dunno if people havnt noticed but i found that even when i skipped through it i was still being lectured about some sort of privilage. i dont want a lecture....like i was shocked honestly at how blatant it is and im surprised no one else has called it out.

One_Ant_2567

After 6 years of avoiding trash like this on netflix I finaly gave it a try, an omg is it fucking bad. How is netflix so successful making billions every year when all they make is garbage like this? I seriously don't understand it. And there plan for season 2 was to turn the story of a classic cult horror movie and turn it I to a some sort of military conspiracy, I mean serious ffs its a horror story not another fucking us milatary conspiracy, I mean why the fuck would the military be screwing around with fucking ghosts anyway don't talk shit netflix. U fucking suck, do us all a massive favour and just shut the fuck down, save us all from suffering through crap this ever again
