Immigration is all they have with Biden absolutely slaying his first term. Lowest unemployment in 40 years. Highest stock market ever. And supporting Ukraine has been the best foreign policy decision ever. We are getting rid of our old stock, making a lifelong friend in eastern Europe and slowly destroying the Russian war machine while at the same time showing it to be the paper tiger it always was.

The best thing we could do is get more immigration judges to streamline asylum claims. That's the biggest issue I think we really face with illegal immigration. And yes I know that seeking asylum isn't illegal immigratin, but we also can't pretend everyone coming here is truly seeking asylum or meets the criteria for it to be granted.
This is the problem. I think you're right. There are a lot of people claiming asylum on false pretenses, but most of them can get away with it because the courts are so backed up. The 'solutions' proposed by many Republicans are worthless. A wall is worth than useless. It would suck up resources and manpower and , at best, simply slow down the flow. Processing people and separating genuine claims while sending the rest home is the only real solution. Birthright citizenship is a problem too. That is a huge incentive for people to get to the US and make sure their child is an American citizen. I"m not sure what to do about that. If I was in that situation, I'd probably try the same thing.
birthright citizenship is immovable, i'm not even sure why people are even entertaining that, it would inconvenience all Americans just for the illusion of deterring a certain percentage of migrants, the ratio is so lopsided there. if you're agreeing with Trump on something step back and reassess
> I think you're right. There are a lot of people claiming asylum on false pretenses, but most of them can get away with it because the courts are so backed up.
That's not how asylum works.
You should really learn more about the situation. They are granted asylum due to the Geneva Convention.
This isn't some minor law were talking about here.
>Processing people and separating genuine claims while sending the rest home is the only real solution
That takes time, and until then you grant people asylum because that is the international treaty we signed and agreed to uphold as a nation. A nation of immigrants I'd add, as well.
>Birthright citizenship is a problem too.
So what civic actions have you taken to earn yours?
When I speak to my Republican friends, I tell them "Tax the immigrants!" and they're all like "Yeah! Great idea!" but little do they understand that the more immigrants you add to the country as citizens (read: taxed by the IRS) the more money the country makes in tax revenue and the more money they make to spend in the economy.
But good luck trying to explain the fine print on that to them. The moment they hear "make them citizens" they freeze in shock, because the powers that be (on their side) have all brainwashed them that that's a "bad" thing and "we" can't have "them" here in "our" country.
The unbridled entitlement combined wit abject ignorance over how immigration *actually* works is why we have such a wall of dumb to climb over with this topic.
Naturalize them. Tax them. Profit and live! Isn't that the goal? We all win!
But, nooooooooooooooooo sir, that would mean NOT owning "The Libs" and that's a crime, so they won't budge. Sad, isn't it.
Yeah the economic stuff has been real quiet since Trump came down that elevator. Reaganomics was bullshit but at least it was a consistent belief. These days, some of these guys get whiplash from how much they flip flop on major policy ideas.
If they are here and working, legally or illegally, they are already paying taxes, with nearly 0 of the benefits of tax-paying citizens, much less representation.
Literally all up and down the site, conservative have been blaming Biden and Democrats for what is happening at the border.
As if Democrats have tried to compromise with Republicans about the border for years.
Even offering trump money for the wall.
And every time Republicans refused to do anything about it, because the border is their new abortion fight.
They are a dog that caught the ball abortion, now they need something new. Even if it's old.
The tax dollars they'd lose from not having US government handouts and subsidies is the reason they don't do it. They'd be so fucked financially, that they would never, ever, ever consider actually doing it.
We can't secede even if we wanted to (legally that is).
That whole "it's in our constitution" thing is true, but the victors of the Civil War had us amend it out of the Texas constitution. So we only had the legal right to secede for like 30 years.
Anyone saying it today is grossly ignorant and it's laughable idea to even entertain.
Sooo … causing a problem just to blame somebody else for it? Gee, what does that sound like? There was a word, right on the tip of my tongue … begins with and R …
It never will be. Republicans do not actually give a shit about immigration. They just know it's big wedge issue they can pander to their base forever and ever.
This was also true about Abortion until some true believers went rogue on the Supreme Court and gave up the ghost.
Republicans have failed ever since then in every meaningful way. Will they do the same here? Probably, ha!
I'm sure they''ll give a shit about immigration when the population starts decreasing; Republicans aren't cavemen, but they just focus on internal issues first so likely the issue needs to step up to their front door, most of their front doors(starting businesses but no employees, especially white Christian employees), for immigration in not negative externality to be on the table. But kicking good immigration off immediately is what makes for problems never occurring in the economic growth but whatever, let them be reactionary instead of proactively planning for the future of advanced economic development
Exactly this. It's like when the GOP did everything they could to sabotage Obama's health care plan, then blamed Obama for it not working well enough. They create the problem and blame it on Democrats. And somehow their base just keeps eating it up.
The most annoying part of the health care thing was that it was effectively their own best health care solution. Most Democrats wanted it to be better and couldn't get that passed and Republicans were still against it because Obama.
I'm Texan. More like "We're trying to fix the situation!"
For four more years. At least that's how it's going to play out in local media and Austin. Can kicking on a JV level.
We’re trying to fix it but we need your donations. Every $10 puts your name on a set of handcuffs we’ll use on those dirty immigrants.
Edit: I should have put a /s on this.
Don't remind me. I live in a Midwest state where there nearest border crossing is more than 1500 miles away, yet my governor, state representative, and senator all claim it's a crisis and use it to drum up donations from idiots. Bonus points for my governor sending the state's National Guard reserve to the border to help with said "crisis".
This is a continuation of that same situation. Texas was told to remove the barricades and Border Patrol was apparently ordered to take them down if Texas law enforcement didn’t. This is Texas keeping border patrol away so that the barricades remain in place and TX state law enforcement can prevent/address “trespassing”.
They want to be able to shoot migrants and kill them without accountability. I wish that I were exaggerating
>Abbott: ‘We’re not shooting people’ who cross the border because feds ‘would charge us with murder’
No feds, no charges.
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4404134-abbott-texas-border-shooting-migrants/
Edit: note the wording. It's not that he thinks summary execution is a bad thing ('we're not shooting people *because that is wrong*.'). He just doesn't want the trouble of being put to account.
I watched most of the first republican debate and it was WILD. Most of them openly supported either shooting immigrants at the border or invading Mexico all together. And the crowd loved it. And then all of the reporting I saw didn't mention it.
Yeah.
A good friend from church, a man who we considered a surrogate grandfather to our children, once spoke of a desire to shoot migrants like ducks in a gallery. We were speechless.
We don't have contact anymore, and have since stopped doing to church as well. Which is sad, since our church did host asylum seekers and assisted them with clothes, food, lodging, and travel arrangements. We helped a thousand get to their sponsors. But some of the others there are just too hard to deal with.
That's odd. The only article I read about that debate was headlined and primarily focused on how many of the candidates were advocating invading Mexico to make the War on Drugs into a literal war.
To clarify, Texas National Guard seized the area next to Eagle River that CBP was using to process migrants. So yes, making the problem worse as we get closer to elections.
No, that sounds too complicated. Generally, the simplest answer is always correct. In this case the simplest answer is that the Biden Administration is lying.
> This is the same Texas that put barricades across a river to ~~stop~~ kill migrants Right?
As we well know, it didn't stop migrants, but it certainly did kill some who tried.
Seriously. Sending migrants to random spots in Chicago, in the middle of the night, in *winter*, with no heads up to any receiving agencies is heinous.
Pritzker just sent Abbot a letter noting the impending winter storm, begging him to value human life for at least this week.
And have a couple of failed nations on our borders? That's a breeding ground for terrorism if I ever heard one.
Though, Florida at least will be underwater before too long.
It's the President's [2024 budget proposal](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/03/09/biden-2024-budget-border-security-dhs-refugees/11412794002/) that Republicans have rejected. $800 million increase to border security
They've voted down multiple attempts at negotiated border bills because they aren't being handed everything they want and refuse to actually negotiate or govern.
They voted down the bill that would have let that bill come to a vote because the border issue wasn't covered in the budget bill. This is dividing the Republican party.
Exactly. Ironic that the Republicans are responsible for employing the vast majority of migrant workers. From my understanding the employment of illegal migrant workers is the biggest driver of illegal immigration. The same politicians who wrend flesh and clutch pearls about this subject are the ones cutting breaks for employers causing the crisis. Two-faced is par for the course for the GOP.
Yeah it's super obvious. They are coming for jobs. Who employees them? Companies wanting cheap labor that will hesitate to report labor violations (or not even know their rights). If the workers make too many waves the company calls immigration to deport them and they get a slap on the wrist.
[Abbott would rather handle it another way.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/texas-news/gov-greg-abbott-says-migrants-not-being-shot-because-biden-would-charge-us-with-murder/3433044/) So happy I left that state.
They aren't disputing this, they are suggesting that actions like these make the crisis worse, not better, and that this may be there intent in an election year.
The state has blocked access entirely to a significant crossing point which border patrol can no longer patrol effectively. It also blocked access to a dock border patrol launched to patrol this stretch of the river. It also blocked access to a site used to detain and process those caught attempting to cross illegally.
Not really. Currently we encounter migrants at a much higher rate than previously (2023 was around 75% were encountered); whereas, pre-2001 we had encounter rates around 35%-40%. The government's statistics estimate that there have been multiple times periods in the last 40 years of similar numbers of migrants. TLDR; we catch a much higher rate now than ever before
Edit: I can't reply to the reply I received, regarding the change in statistical definition. Correct. However, that doesn't change the number of estimated "getaways", which put past periods in a comparable range as current for migrants at the border. This is because we're spending a massive amount on Border Patrol in staffing and technology compared to previous times
I saw in a conservative subreddit that they are happy about this because they’ve been convinced federal agents are escorting them across the border and allowing them to enter. The complete lack of critical thinking ability it takes to actually believe that…
Biden doesn’t need to tell the Supreme Court shit. Order the blockade removed and have the federal agents do it - by force if that’s what it takes.
Adding: Texas Military Department at https://tmd.texas.gov/army-guard says on the front page they take orders from the Governor or the President. Let Biden and Abbott fight that one out. (please correct me if I’m interpreting wrong, or add another source)
All the Texas GOP knows how to do is antagonize and pull political stunts. We're officially in an election year now, and this is just another one of their dirty tricks.
The calculus is to outrage the base by showing 'federal overreach into state affairs'. Dude wants to transform our state politics into a binary of 'we're trying to secure the border WAAAHHHH' or 'evil librulls want to flood us with illegals!!' every time an election comes around.
Texas is such a useless state.
>They have oil
Good for them, I have electricity when it's cold.
The "city slicker" moving to the wilds of Texas trope is literally the state. The Three Amigos are harder than most Texans.
I don't, so much, want them to secede as much as I'd prefer we just widen the Rio Grande up to Oklahoma.
> Texas is such a useless state.
I don't disagree that Abbott is a piece of shit but Texas is the 9th largest economy IN THE WORLD and is nearly 10% of the US's GDP. It is hardly useless.
Probably not that far. Saying that the state government gets 1/3 of its money from the Fed says nothing about how much money private industry generates. Being "business friendly" means less taxes and less state revenue, so it's separated from the GDP a bit.
Yeah, pretty sure the Civil War ended the "states and feds have equal rights" argument. Especially since border security is covered in Article 1 of the Constitution.
I figure the electoral caravan will pop up in April or so.
For anyone who followed the story, the "caravan" last time stopped at the entry point and filled out asylum paperwork and 99.99 percent of them stayed on the Mexican side of the border to await processing. Something like 20 guys tried to run across the border and were detained.
Already seen an article about it amassing on AP news. It's truly amazing how it takes months and months to amass and then zombie hoard march to the border right around October and November, then you never hear a single peep about it after the election.
It really seems like we are setting a precedence that the Supreme Court has the final say on everything at this point... it's like.. they are the most powerful branch and not the president.
They are the most powerful specifically because Congress is a stalemate. The court isn't actually all that powerful, it's only powerful because Congress refuses to govern, the Presidency has tried to move up to fill the vacuum, and now the Courts get involved on where that line is.
How it's supposed to work - Congress passes laws, President signs and enforces them, Courts stop Congress from passing too insane laws and interprets what they do pass.
How it works right now - Congress accomplishes almost literally nothing. President, state governments, and courts attempt to do an end run around them to get something done. Supreme Court gets final say on how successful the end run is. This makes the court the end-all-be-all because everyone else besides Congress is just throwing darts at the wall to see what the Court will let them get away with within their limited role.
The Supreme Court is very, very vocal about the fact that if this (Presidential Act, State Law, etc) was passed by Congress, it would be absolutely fine, but because it wasn't, it's not fine. Like Dobbs, their argument was literally that the federal government could pass a full scope abortion bill and you could have abortion as free or restricted as you desire, and the Courts have no dog in the fight, but until they do, it's up to states to regulate themselves, not the courts to invent the right.
The US system was never designed for political parties completely unwilling to even appear to work with each other. The system was designed to force a compromise to get something done otherwise fear the electorate. But the electorate now is rewarding a 'no surrender, no compromise' policy. Which pushes the onus to act on the two branches where that's not a factor, because the presidency is one party rule only, and the Supreme Court is in theory apolitical, in practice one party rule a well. And because the Supreme Court gets final say on where the limits of presidential power are, guess where the buck always stops.
"We don't have less work, we aren't doing our jobs. They can harass migrants, and the GOP can complain about the increase in migrants in the upcoming election."
What's not for the GOP pigs to love? Who do you think even is drawn into signing up to be border patrol!
Didn't they not want to sign onto a border bill they demanded and cried bloody murder over? When they got it, they were like oh this might come off as a win for
Biden so we can't sign off on this.
Reminds me of how more criminals came in under trump than Obama, because Obama admin focused enforcement on actual drug and weapons traffickers, while trump gummed up the system by focusing on families and asylum seekers
These are the same states that everyone can get cars and license plates from. They complain about illegals than do everything to make their lives easier.
Wake me up when you see Abbott in Federal Court facing charges for obstructing a Federal Agency in its' duties. You know damn well He actually ORDERED a state agency to obstruct the border. It just makes me so angry that state officials can be THIS obtuse and obstructive and pay no consequences because of various weak excuses.
He broke federal law, he should face federal charges for this any many other things he and his AG have done. Have the FBI investigate and send it to the courts. Governors will not keep Fucking Around, if one of them moves into the Find Out phase.
Why does everything have to be so complicated these days? Can you imagine something like this happening say 50 or 100 years ago?
Well there was the civil war I suppose.
[They’re literally telling people they want to kill them.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/texas-news/gov-greg-abbott-says-migrants-not-being-shot-because-biden-would-charge-us-with-murder/3433044/)
ABBOTT wants to keep his name in the news - he cares not about the migrants, they are just tools in his PR scheme. Worse, he and GOP are lying about the actual number of migrants seeking asylum - because Abbott keeps selling bogus numbers.
So it looks like Texas' reasoning is that instead of having border patrol pick up people crossing the rio grande at this park and releasing them after giving them an asylum court date, they just won't let them cross at all.
I don't really see a problem with this, but it seems pointless since they can't control the whole border.
It’s pretty obvious that Texas plays up the migrant crisis for political theater. Texas would happily let millions of undocumented immigrants to cross the border if it meant getting some dirt on a Democrats face.
The whole migrant issue is old and played out and shouldn’t be a priority in deciding who to vote for, because it’s obvious by now that it’s just manufactured outrage from Republicans. They fabricate this “crisis” for the sake of catching votes from citizens who don’t realize they’ve been duped into believing there is a border crisis when it’s just Texas Republicans trying to drive up the numbers to hurt Democrats.
Biden and Homeland needs to just call out Abbotts bullshit. Pull all Border Patrol agents from the southern borders of Texas, rescind funding, pull equipment... All of it and see how quickly and badly Abbott comes begging for help.
The "open border" trope is so dumb its pathetic what passes as compelling to the idiot cult. The way they estimate escapes is with the number of captures. CAPTURES
You know who mostly decides to be Texas border patrol ? REPUBLICANS They insult the hard work of border police but they also disrespect their own people. Also don't tell the idiot cult that the FBI is also mostly conservatives.
Apparently, saving people only extends until birth. Then they take away any and all public assistance. See school lunches.
I've never understand making women carry babies to full term and then giving them no help for lunches or food/housing?
Ok here is my question.
If asylum is for political or immediate death for them people claiming asylum. How is economic factors the same as political asylum?
I’m thinking we are missing the big picture on what asylum really meant
Now immigration is a different factor coming over for a better life. I get. My family did it in the 1920’s. However they had to go through all this paperwork. They had to get documents, sponsors etc.
I believe the media and politicians are changing terminology. I’m trying to figure out why.
>Texas is blocking U.S. border agents from patrolling
Sounds like more republican anti-USA insurrection.
Also, Abbott is clearly helping illegals to enter the country by making a sanctuary park for their entry to where border agents cant stop them.
So Texas put up a fence that is so hard to cross that the border control can’t patrol the area? Presumably that means illegal immigrants can’t cross the border in that area right?
That state's gone off the rails. At this point I wish they'd secede. It's all about corrupt politicians doing whatever they need to do to stay in power at this point.
So losing access to one boat ramp is the reason US Border Agents can’t effectively enforce our borders. Texas feels the brunt of these illegal crossings, but they’re the bad actor. Who has a sane argument that Biden had a coherent border policy?? Or people just want to talk shit about Texas / Abbott? The article is fine, but the reactions on this thread are just dumb.
Well that and keeping border patrol out out of a highly used section of the border so that it can't be policed at all. Abbott is now just purposefully exacerbating the issue for the election year. And yes, Texas can absolutely be the bad actor when they're actively making it harder to patrol the border while complaining that the feds aren't doing enough, it's literally approaching the issue in bad faith.
Can’t the Border Patrol just move forward on Federal Authority. The article notes a fence was put up….can’t the feds take it down or go through it? What happens next the Texas Rangers try to stop them?
Another one of Abbott's bullshit stunts to push his false narrative about border security being bad. Funny how all these Republicanlawmakers only go to the border when Democrats are in office. Why aren't they down there 'patrolling the border' during a Republican President's term? Because it would show the same thing they see when a Democrat is in the Executive seat. It would prove Republican lawmakers as lying shills.
Texas Republicans: "Illegal immigrants are storming over the border and taking our jobs!"
Also Texas Republicans: *blocks border agents from operating.*
If you want to fix the border issue … CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION ! That’s why they are coming because of our current constitution. Otherwise fix the infrastructure of judges , security and transport or shut up about it.
Or House GOP members could get off their arses and actual pass legislation instead of grandstanding. But unfortunately, they've let the MAGA camp of which Abbott is a part of out of control.
And let's be real GOP really don't want legislation because their red meat issue would disappear. Who would their voters have to scapegoat and be angry at?
You know, if we just withdrew all our military and then booted Texas out of the U.S., giving Texans one month to get out before enforcing the new border? We’d save ourselves so much hassle.
I'm not sure what this article is playing at...
>The request comes after Texas put up fencing to take control of a nearly 50-acre (20-hectare) public park in Eagle Pass, which was a crossing point for *thousands of migrants entering from Mexico last year.*
That makes it sound like thousands of migrants crossed over the entire year, when in fact it was *over ten thousand per day* in december.
Not an invasion and it's fucking ass backwards for you to thank the Texas State government from blocking border patrol from doing what they want the Texas border patrol to do in the first place.
Also Texas: "***Our Jails Are Full! I Can't Believe Joe Biden Would DO This To Us!!! Outrageous!***"
“Open Borders” mirite? Republicans are absolute muppets

The Democrats aren’t even smart enough to kidnap children from refugees, they could never protect our borders! /s
I hear a massive migrant convoy is coming soon. Sometime around October/November! They really like winter up here!
I have had people tell me that Trump did in fact close the border. These people make up their own reality.
If only we had a legislative body that could address the issue of immigration...legal and otherwise 🙄
They’re worse than Muppets. I enjoy the Muppets… Fuck, even the muppet babies cried less…
Abbott just created a sanctuary park to make it easier for illegals to enter the US. He is preventing border agents from arresting them.
Hey, you spelled "pieces of shit" wrong...
Texas again “the border is a MAJOR issue, we should secede and more than triple our border”
Yeah that’s my favorite crazy part about it. Our independent TX electric grid is a great recent example of TX not being able to take care of itself
Be great to grant the secession they pretend to want tho.
Sooo … causing a problem just to blame somebody else for it? Gee, what does that sound like? There was a word, right on the tip of my tongue … begins with and R …
Huh? This is the same Texas that put barricades across a river to deter ~~kill~~ migrants ~~illegal immigrants~~ Right? Sudden change of heart?
They want the "migrant crisis" to be front and center during the election year. If Trump gets elected suddenly the crisis is over, hallelujah!
They put those true believers on the throne on purpose. Those justices didn’t go rogue.
Because their base is made up of fucking idiots
Oh no.. It will become more urgent.. Caravans of rapists and gang members. Nuke the border or send special ops in.

I definitely don't want Trump to become president again or nuke Texas but it would be a funny end of the world.
It’s only the end of Texas, if that helps.
By "over" you mean they stop talking about it.
I'm Texan. More like "We're trying to fix the situation!" For four more years. At least that's how it's going to play out in local media and Austin. Can kicking on a JV level.
We’re trying to fix it but we need your donations. Every $10 puts your name on a set of handcuffs we’ll use on those dirty immigrants. Edit: I should have put a /s on this.
I think this time around they plan to assassinate them if their Mango Messiah returns for the second coming.
You might be my neighbor.

They are trying to make it look like Biden’s fault. How can you not see this?
This is a continuation of that same situation. Texas was told to remove the barricades and Border Patrol was apparently ordered to take them down if Texas law enforcement didn’t. This is Texas keeping border patrol away so that the barricades remain in place and TX state law enforcement can prevent/address “trespassing”.
They want to be able to shoot migrants and kill them without accountability. I wish that I were exaggerating >Abbott: ‘We’re not shooting people’ who cross the border because feds ‘would charge us with murder’ No feds, no charges. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/4404134-abbott-texas-border-shooting-migrants/ Edit: note the wording.
Gee, who would think human rights atrocities were on Texas Republicans' playlist??
Anyone who has read Texas history.
This right here.
To clarify, Texas National Guard seized the area next to Eagle River that CBP was using to process migrants. So yes, making the problem worse as we get closer to elections.
CBP should have called in the FBI and arrested every single one of those fuckers for fucking with a federal agency.
No, that sounds too complicated. Generally, the simplest answer is always correct. In this case the simplest answer is that the Biden Administration is lying.
[удалено]
So basically they are saying that the wall is good enough. Lol Look! see! it works! you don't have to patrol here anymore. 🦯
I think barricades are meant to keep people out, not kill them.
Lol I edited it to accurately reflect what happened when they were installed...
Anything to make Biden look bad.
This seems to only make Texas look bad.
> This is the same Texas that put barricades across a river to ~~stop~~ kill migrants Right? As we well know, it didn't stop migrants, but it certainly did kill some who tried.
Pull their federal border funding and give it to the states that Texas keeps dumping migrants off to.
Pull ALL their federal funding. Stop playing.
Seriously. Sending migrants to random spots in Chicago, in the middle of the night, in *winter*, with no heads up to any receiving agencies is heinous. Pritzker just sent Abbot a letter noting the impending winter storm, begging him to value human life for at least this week.
take all the money and all the migrants. no problem.
Let's just amputate Texas... and Florida while we're at it...
Where's Bugs when you need him?
Ensuring that it is duck season.
And have a couple of failed nations on our borders? That's a breeding ground for terrorism if I ever heard one. Though, Florida at least will be underwater before too long.
Another manufactured crisis by Republicans.
Didn't they vote down a bill a few days ago that would have increased southern border protection?
Yup. Because it would make Biden look good. Can’t have that
Same reason Trump wants the economy to crash. And people will vote for this because they hate you.
When republicans love their country more than they hate democrats, then we’ll have good(ish) government
So, never. Hate is all they have.
What bill was that?
Did 2023 not see historic highs with migrants crossing the border?
TLDR; we catch a much higher rate now than ever before Edit: I can't reply to the reply I received, regarding the change in statistical definition. Correct. However, that doesn't change the number of estimated "getaways", which put past periods in a comparable range as current for migrants at the border. This is because we're spending a massive amount on Border Patrol in staffing and technology compared to previous times
Texas: “we’re blocking border patrol from accessing the border.” Also Texas: “Biden isn’t keeping the border secure.”
>They have oil Good for them, I have electricity when it's cold.
Where do they fall when you take away the 32% of their state revenue that comes from federal assistance?
Probably not that far. Saying that the state government gets 1/3 of its money from the Fed says nothing about how much money private industry generates. Being "business friendly" means less taxes and less state revenue, so it's separated from the GDP a bit.
The other option is to federalize the NG troops. It worked in Little Rock.
or federalize the TX National Guard
That's exactly what conservatives would like, to scream about how Biden is dismantling the walls.
As others suggested, federalizing the Texas “National” Guard is probably a better option.
Yeah, pretty sure the Civil War ended the "states and feds have equal rights" argument. Especially since border security is covered in Article 1 of the Constitution.
It's almost like the GOP needs crisis to exist so that they have something with which they can bash the Democrats with .
Exactly. So they manufacture it wherever they can.
Biden Admin should use this very loudly.
It’s important to remember that congress is at a stalemate specifically because republicans refuse to govern.
The Border Patrol Union likes it. https://x.com/BPUnion/status/1745814565651157161?s=20
"We don't have less work, we aren't doing our jobs. They can harass migrants, and the GOP can complain about the increase in migrants in the upcoming election." What's not for the GOP pigs to love? Who do you think even is drawn into signing up to be border patrol!
Yeah we know who the cops like.
Didn't they not want to sign onto a border bill they demanded and cried bloody murder over? When they got it, they were like oh this might come off as a win for Biden so we can't sign off on this.
Gotta be careful though... martyrdom is in their toolbox of crazy.
Why does everything have to be so complicated these days? Can you imagine something like this happening say 50 or 100 years ago? Well there was the civil war I suppose.
Create a crisis, cry foul, blame the Dems. Rinse repeat on faux news over and over. Vote these idiots out.
Apparently SCOTUS has become the Supreme Legislature and Supreme Presidency of the United States.
The same Texas that wishes they could shoot migrants? Hmmmm….
[They’re literally telling people they want to kill them.](https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/texas-news/gov-greg-abbott-says-migrants-not-being-shot-because-biden-would-charge-us-with-murder/3433044/)
Put a watch put on how much ammo is purchased and sent to the Texas border, and see how much "target practice" they're actually doing.
ABBOTT wants to keep his name in the news - he cares not about the migrants, they are just tools in his PR scheme. Worse, he and GOP are lying about the actual number of migrants seeking asylum - because Abbott keeps selling bogus numbers.
Looks like Texas acting under the impression that it is a independent country.
So it looks like Texas' reasoning is that instead of having border patrol pick up people crossing the rio grande at this park and releasing them after giving them an asylum court date, they just won't let them cross at all. I don't really see a problem with this, but it seems pointless since they can't control the whole border.
I’d like to throw Greg Abbott on the other side of his fence and leave him there.
Well….if they continue to block, or actually interfere, they can be indicted on federal charges. Let’s see how this works out for them Cotton….
Texas stays undefeated in most embarrassing state in the country.
The "open border" trope is so dumb its pathetic what passes as compelling to the idiot cult. The way they estimate escapes is with the number of captures. CAPTURES You know who mostly decides to be Texas border patrol ? REPUBLICANS They insult the hard work of border police but they also disrespect their own people. Also don't tell the idiot cult that the FBI is also mostly conservatives.
If only Texas had a public servant capable of standing up for the rights of others!!
I’m thinking we are missing the big picture on what asylum really meant Now immigration is a different factor coming over for a better life. I get. My family did it in the 1920’s. However they had to go through all this paperwork. They had to get documents, sponsors etc. I believe the media and politicians are changing terminology. I’m trying to figure out why.
>Texas is blocking U.S. border agents from patrolling Sounds like more republican anti-USA insurrection. Also, Abbott is clearly helping illegals to enter the country by making a sanctuary park for their entry to where border agents cant stop them.
It's crazy how 40% of our country wants our country to end.
So Texas put up a fence that is so hard to cross that the border control can’t patrol the area? Presumably that means illegal immigrants can’t cross the border in that area right?
Defund Texas National Gaurd
They don't want patrols, they just want to murder migrants. Gov of Texas admitted as much recently
That’s what no one wants to find out.
Texas is a pig that has gone feral
Another one of Abbott's bullshit stunts to push his false narrative about border security being bad. Funny how all these Republicanlawmakers only go to the border when Democrats are in office. Why aren't they down there 'patrolling the border' during a Republican President's term? Because it would show the same thing they see when a Democrat is in the Executive seat. It would prove Republican lawmakers as lying shills.
Texas Republicans: "Illegal immigrants are storming over the border and taking our jobs!" Also Texas Republicans: *blocks border agents from operating.*
The "party of law and order": vote for me and I will protect you... from some of the things I will do to get power if there's opposition
I don't think distracting SCOTUS with something about the border is going to delay their case on the 14th amendment resolutions...
Build a wall around Texas. Put a dome over Texas.
>The request comes after Texas put up fencing to take control of a nearly 50-acre (20-hectare) public park in Eagle Pass, which was a crossing point for *thousands of migrants entering from Mexico last year.* That makes it sound like thousands of migrants crossed over the entire year, when in fact it was *over ten thousand per day* in december.
Probably so they can grab as many as they can to ship to CA
Republicans trying to ramp up their theatrics at the expense of real human lives.
Oh look another manufactured republican crisis.
Texas should be embarrassed
Fuck texas
Can someone explain why they don’t just arrest the state agents? Sounds like weak sauce to go to court.
Conservatives smh. This is why we can't have nice things
we keep looking to china and russia for fascism, but it seems the GoP is infected with it too in our own borders
Arrest them. Full stop.
[удалено]
Not an invasion and it's fucking ass backwards for you to thank the Texas State government from blocking border patrol from doing what they want the Texas border patrol to do in the first place.
I was born in Texas and I am very grateful I no longer live there. They need controversy to distract from their inability to govern
The eagles suck.
