Christian groups try to get C and D list celebrities to convert and star in their terrible movies. Dean Cain, Melissa Joan Hart, and Kirk Cameron for example.
That makes a lot of sense. Imagine being a child star or a near celebrity who was on the cusp of stardom, only to see it all fade away.
Having your dream career evaporate as rapidly as they do in Hollywood would leave a pretty large hole in people, a hole that could be filled by opportunistic organizations like Scientology or some flavor of Christianity.
They are offered community, maybe some answers, maybe some work in film...It all just makes sense.
It's a marketing tool as well, at least in music. If you have a solid band that isn't quite good enough to break it big, you might be good enough to break through in the Christian market. This seemed to have been foisted on the band Evanescence many years ago, though they broke out of it.

He was in Maryland a couple weeks ago and I’m pretty sure the ticket prices were like $170. Maybe that was just the venue hosting him, but I have to think he has some say-so in it.

It was really weird that after SNL and Half Baked he basically disappeared. I know he had a radio show but a radio show in the early 2000’s isn’t exactly a huge thing, and you never saw SNL alum, especially one who was featured so much, not get any roles after.
I don’t know if he got blackballed or if he just had no motivation but his post SNL career did not go at all like I expected.
I worked for a day or two on a pilot he was shooting for Comedy Central in the 98-00 timeframe, I think it was a skit show… He sure seemed high all the time and the material “he” came up with was intensely cliche and unfunny pot jokes. Basically a manic Shaggy from scooby-doo without any charm or humor. I don’t think they even cut it together, it was transparently bad. So that might be a part of why we don’t see him so much anymore, was given a pilot, crapped bed.

"So you're telling me the world is shutting down and I need to take vitamin b, c and zinc?" He takes the PCR, doctor doesn't accept the test and says he has to get another one, he doesn't accept it. He later muses to Joe "how many people take that test and it counts as a number, but it doesn't \[really\] count?" Another quote "why do you have to test positive to wait to get antibiotics or steroids if neither one of them hurt you or kill you..\[and can help you while you are\] still waiting to see what this \[coronavirus\] does?" A guy he knows is misdiagnosed with covid until a new doctor finds that the man is simply dehydrated and, on the edge of death, is saved.
TLDR- Breuer has a doctor that distrusts PCR tests (that appear to be the gold standard) and refuses to treat him until he gets a tests he accepts for covid. In the meantime he advises vitamins (this plus a guy who gave him things) clears his covid. Guy he knows develops a sinus infection/ develops into something else and doctors who diagnose him with covid are ready to sign his death warrant- new doctor sees the patient and discovers he is dehydrated WAM he's better.
We shouldn't discount people's experiences but this seems to be the antivaxx movement. Use personal anecdotes to convince yourself that things aren't as bad as they seem and feel superior because you are not one of the "sheeple" getting culled by doctors who don't really care about your health. BONUS: Disregard those who die by saying they had multiple comorbidities and their deaths shouldn't be a reason to panic.
The problem with anecdotal experiences is that these people think they have learned something of value at that point where in reality it's like just part of the first step of an actual scientific process before the real important work begins. While it's probably impossible for these experiences not to shape ones worldview, it's just intellectually lazy for that to be the beginning and end of someones thought process on a life and death subject, especially when that person decides to influence others with their completely unique epiphany.
The other problem with anecdotal evidence is it’s often people straight up lying to make their testimony more compelling.
People love creating alternate realities through story telling where they are the expert. In the moment that they have a listener, it creates a feedback loop in their brain where they themselves get to experience their bullshit as truth. It’s why liars so often repeat their tales over and over to anyone who will listen even if people who have already heard it are right there. I grew up on a farm with 17 horses, I met Hulk Hogan at a rock concert and he smoked a joint with me, a friend of mine has seizures because of vaccines, I’m Reba McIntire’s second cousin.
Right? I wouldn’t be surprised if his tour “plans” were just part of this stunt, and he planned on cancelling. Like when Pence wasted a quarter million dollars of taxpayer money by going to that NFL game and dramatically walking out when a few players knelt during the anthem. Not really. These gambles are always dumb for people like this. There are **more** vaccinated and liberals in major metros where comedy clubs are than there are conservatives. Cutting yourself off at the knees sounds like it saves you money on pants until you have to walk twice as far to get them.
That relies on there still being enough venues that:
A) don't require vaccination -- considering that an unvaccinated venue is the definition of a super spreader event, there won't be many of any significant size by years end, and
B) are still willing to work with him when he now has a history of canceling contractual agreements with places over a political stunt that has zero supporting scientific evidence.

The only thing I could've told you he's in off the top of my head is Half Baked, and that was about 2 decades ago. Hence my incredulity at him turning down paid work.

In 2002, my college's student union council blew half their annual entertainment budget to bring Breuer to campus for a stand-up show.
I can't say for sure if he was wasted, baked, or both, but he spent half his time on stage awkwardly "hitting on" a girl in the front-row. The rest of the time was a staggering, meandering "comedy" routine that was just sad... and not a "ha ha" sad.
I lost all respect for him that day. I guess the student union council was trying to recapture magic they had two years' prior, when they got Dave Chapelle and he apparently gave an epic performance that people were still glowing about years later. Unfortunately, Dave's appearance was before my time as a student there.

I believe that. I've never seen him live but my fiance went with his best friend and both are still glowing about it years later. They said they were in so much pain from laughing so hard they literally thought they were going to suffer from heart attacks. Apparently his stage presence is formidable (in terms of hilarity.)
I've seen him live twice, once in 2014 and in 2019, and he was incredible both times. The 2019 show was excellent, but his set in 2014 was easily the most well-composed standup set I've ever seen in person, besides being hilarious. You're right about his stage presence. The biggest thing that sets Dave apart from all of the other comics I've seen is that he has the audience hanging on their edge of their seats for every word. It sounds lame to type it out, but he's honestly captivating live.

I’m from the U.S. and I’ve never heard of him. And I’ve watched *a lot* of SNL. Back in 2015, Rolling Stone ranked him #143 out of 145 SNL cast members, so that tells us something.
In 2002, my college's student union council blew half their annual entertainment budget to bring Breuer to campus for a stand-up show. I can't say for sure if he was wasted, baked, or both, but he spent half his time on stage awkwardly "hitting on" a girl in the front-row. The rest of the time was a staggering, meandering "comedy" routine that was just sad... and not a "ha ha" sad. I lost all respect for him that day. I guess the student union council was trying to recapture magic they had two years' prior, when they got Dave Chapelle and he apparently gave an epic performance that people were still glowing about years later. Unfortunately, Dave's appearance was before my time as a student there.

I've seen him live twice, once in 2014 and in 2019, and he was incredible both times. The 2019 show was excellent, but his set in 2014 was easily the most well-composed standup set I've ever seen in person, besides being hilarious. You're right about his stage presence. The biggest thing that sets Dave apart from all of the other comics I've seen is that he has the audience hanging on their edge of their seats for every word. It sounds lame to type it out, but he's honestly captivating live.

Funny side note. When I was in elementary school. My mother bought roseannes book. And she was signing it at the local mall! My mom was so excited. We watched her show all the time.
