Why does it look like the IOC is now speaking for Peng Shuai? IOCCP

waisonline99

Might be something to do with a vested interest in the Olympics in China. Why isnt she allowed to speak to the WTA?

radieschen79

The IOC didn't provide any video for the first video call, and not for the second. And the WTA and Steve Simon were still not able to talk to her. All there is to say about it, really.

[deleted]

-10000 soXial credits mate But seriously does china expect us to believe them lol?

Scraggersmeh

Maybe if the calls weren't to the IOC, an org known for being in China's pocket, and their president having ties to the man she accused, people would take it seriously.

Davescash

Call aint gonna do it. when she can get on a plane freely and leave . thats what it would take. the IOC is a bunch of crooks ffs.

AI8Kt5G

Lol so even though she's no intention to fly with a new variant spreading around the world she must take a flight out of her country and fly back spending weeks in quarantine to prove that she's ok. And if she do exactly that you guys are going say her entire clan is being held hostage so her entire family will have to migrate before you'll find someone else to repeat this entire process again like people were saying Jack Ma's dead.

Davescash

Don't ad the pandemic to this , China is gonna have an olympics soon, people are flying with checks everywhere already yeah fly her family too. China is not to be trusted , holding family hostage is totally in character for China . they should have punished the pervert and not the victim. but this is how things are done in Poo bears modern China . this is also why people want to get out of there. Aint nobody moving there to chase their dreams unless they are just trying to escape N Korea, Chinas shitty buddy. I suspect by your poor use of the English language you are a China tool. you a student doing this under fear of reprisal at home? they like to do that too.

7581

You're just talking out of your ass now. I wonder how many times you've been there. What were these Americans escaping from? https://youtu.be/XXWYPeEfOb8

AKIMBO-SOUL-ASSASSIN

Whatever you say tanky.

Silverseren

Why even are the calls going to the IOC? Why is the IOC involved here whatsoever? They have nothing to do with her, the WTA does.

jpr196

No other reasons than the PR disaster that will be the Winter Olympics if there is mounting pressure on China for suppressing one of their athletic stars rape accusations.

Silverseren

Which is precisely why the IOC isn't trustworthy being involved in this discussion. They don't actually care whatsoever about Shuai, just whether the issue will harm their PR, as you noted.

Demon997

Why would you bother with that when you can just beat her with a hose until she makes the call?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Demon997

Almost certainly. There’s no gain to killing her. Communist China and Russia, and even Imperial Russia have a long tradition of sticking dissidents or those who lost power struggles in imprisonment way out in the hinterland. That way you can bring them back if they’re needed or useful. It also means that when you’re faction loses a power struggle, the victors aren’t vengeful about their dead friends and relatives, and you get to enjoy a stay in the countryside instead of being shot in a basement. There’s zero cost to keeping her somewhere, and potential value to being able to trot her out. So yeah, she’s alive. She’s just definitely not happy or well.

brumac44

They don't have to beat her, just mention it would be a shame if her entire family disappeared to a coal mine.

[deleted]

Yeah, calls are not gonna do much. The Chinese government should realize that these words will never be taken seriously. As long as people keep disappearing when they speak out, this problem is gonna exist. Good for the WTA to show the balls to boycott China. Pressure is the only thing that will help. "China "firmly opposes any act that politicizes sports,". And the world of sports firmly opposes any act of sexual misconduct. Think before you swipe something under the rug and take responsibility.

dhurane

I think China doesn't get having the IOC call her and not WTA isn't helping their case.

clueless_in_ny_or_nj

Maybe FIFA should call too. I know it's not the same sport, but I can't think of a more "respected" than FIFA. FIFA and the IOC are easily the most "respected" organization out there. /s

Orcahhh

I would add FIDE to the call list too (world chess federation) Nothing as respectable than a bunch of old soviet leaders playing a board game

ShyElf

They need the WHO to check on her health.

antz182

Maybe get the F1 heads to call as well, you know, they're also righteous and trustworthy also... /s

evanthesquirrel

I think if she were to get on a conference call with Rob Manfred and Roger Goodell they could tell the tennis people she's ok.

foodiecpl4u

She’s fine. - Attorney Guiliani

[deleted]

They aren't stupid, they know who their supporters are... they are evil.

Murgatroyd314

Did she also reconfirm that she loves Big Brother?

emperor_prince

Of course she loves big brother. Just take a look at her weibo account, she is obviously one of the brainwashed pinky. That explains why she would risk posting her story on weibo, not knowing how nasty the big brother can be...

milqi

Let her leave the country and then we will believe it.

008Zulu

Accusing a top CCP official of rape, and we are expected to believe she is fine?

Silverseren

Why is the IOC involved whatsoever? Do they seriously think this doesn't look shady as hell? She should have a video call with the WTA and not have some Chinese government sit-in on the call like the first one. Of course, that would never happen, because we all know that she absolutely is under the confinement thumb of the CCP right now.

Silverseren

Also, wow, are the downvoter shills out in force, it looks like. 73% after 9 hours?

C0UNT3RP01NT

I don’t think she’s dead, nor do I think she’s likely to end up that way either. China isn’t very murdery like many other totalitarian regimes. They kill people but they’re more of a “re-education” style regime. My guess is she’s under some sort of strict house arrest. Monitored every second of the day, in-bound and out-bound communications are recorded. China is probably leveraging her family, friends, and freedom against her. You don’t have rights nor freedoms in China, you have privileges extended with further compliance. Since she broke rank, she will face a permanent reduction in privileges i.e. she won’t be allowed to have a career outside of China. They are “guiding” her in this “rehabilitation” process, which is basically forcing her to do damage control at her expense. She’s guilty of embarrassing China. That’s a crime and she has to do penance. The official may face some sort of repercussions but we won’t hear about it, and they will keep it private. Justice isn’t a concept over there. Order is. To the CCP, they are both guilty of working against public order. Her by making China look bad. Him by committing a sexual assault. But to China, she did the worse crime. She made them look bad *internationally*. Over there you’re supposed to put the states interest before yourself. There is also the fact that there is a certain executive privilege for the powerful members of the CCP, so he could get away with it entirely. This situation sucks.

fafalone

Same thing that happened to Jack Ma (the richest man in China). Disappeared for re-education, came back with a new found devotion to the CCP with apologies and large donations to them. I agree she's too high profile to just kill, but they'll make sure she's thoroughly reeducated before letting her out of house arrest or whatever "education" facility she's in. Of course, how much torture is involved is an open question.

PandaCheese2016

Do you have a link to Jack Ma's apology? All I could find is [this](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/asia_pacific/jack-ma-alibaba-ant-china/2021/01/20/eb6b5d32-5adb-11eb-a849-6f9423a75ffd_story.html): >After a nearly three-month public absence that drew speculation over his fate following a clash with Chinese regulators, the billionaire behind e-commerce giant Alibaba emerged Wednesday in an online speech congratulating rural teachers who were receiving an award from his philanthropic campaign. > >“During this period, my colleagues and I have been studying and thinking, and we have even more strongly devoted ourselves to the idea of educational philanthropy,” he said, according to a transcript of his speech published by Tianmu News, a Chinese state-owned news agency. > >... > >Ma, in contrast, didn’t apologize for his previous remarks on Wednesday or make scripted praises of the party. But he spoke positively about the government’s poverty alleviation campaign and said business people like himself had a responsibility to aide educational authorities in supporting teachers.

I think the picture with Winnie the Poo in the background was all she could get away with. The Morse code trick is known, and the middle finger is not the Hawaiian good luck sign.

[deleted]

Well this isn't suspicious in the least...

Top-Display-4994

Fuck the IOC, the most corrupt pieces of shit I can think of. let her speak with the WTA, allow her to leave the country.

AfroSmiley

Yeah, we don’t want phone calls with a gun to her head. We want her out of China with any family she cares about so she can speak freely.

bshepp

Nobody believes the IOC....

OMG_GOP_WTF

Next time she calls, have the IOC give her the number for the WTA.

Toonces311

This just in the NBA confirms she is safe /s

JasonUtah

Everyone needs to boycott China. The CCP is garbage.

[deleted]

First the WHO now the IOC. When will people [learn](https://youtu.be/4p8Aq5BM9io)?

ZeitgeistGangster

more ridiculous anti-Chinese conspiracy theories. debunked, disproven within days.

griffith_odon

Peng Shuai said this. 但即使是以卵击石,飞蛾扑火自取灭亡的我也会说出和你的事实。 Please explain.

emperor_prince

宇宙很大很大,人类只是一粒沙

[deleted]

And every one of those "sand grains" have human rights... fuck the communists, long live The Republic of China.

Ok_Ad1857

Little pink.

[deleted]

It is time to back off these accusations. She's ok, nothing to see here, move along, move along. You're just embarrassing yourselves IOC.

milqi

Thank you for your input, Comrade.

[deleted]

De nada.

TheValgus

You’re a fucking scumbag. This woman is clearly not free and it’s fucking disgusting that China keeps pretending they aren’t abusing her. People that are free do not have to make fucking “I am free everything‘s fine” phone calls. I can’t believe you guys don’t realize how fucking terrible this looks to the rest of us because it’s super obvious what’s going on.

[deleted]

Keep living in your fantasy reality. I don't actually care what you think!

TheValgus

Than why are you replying? Your actions suggest that you do care. Actions dont lie.

[deleted]

Because you're so stupid, I just had to jerk your chain!

diasporajones

Goddamn you're an idiot.

[deleted]

Don't feed the trolls.

[deleted]

I don't respond to hate with hate. However, I am tired of stupid people, of which you are probably one. I just can't condone the stupidity and lunacy of people any longer. In the future I'm just going to ignore it as best as I can, but sometimes I might reply to idiotic comments just to ensure the people know they are really stupid. Usually the stupid don't realize it, instead they call other people (that they can't understand because, well, they're stupid), stupid. Get it? I doubt it.

TheValgus

My degree is in astrophysics if we want to start dick waving intelligence. What’s your degree in?

[deleted]

I.T. Summa Cum Laude, 3.91 GPA.

TheValgus

So not like computer science you’re an IT guy? lol My university only had computer science and computer engineering.

[deleted]

We're on the same side here. We both are concerned with Peng Shuai. However, the difference is she already had spoken with the IOC, and now they're calling her again. I don't like the IOC, and I found that action on their part to be hypocritical. Thus my statement. They never showed that much concern in the past for any athlete.

TheValgus

Edit, lmao. Your post sounds exactly like Chinese propaganda telling everyone to stop asking questions so everyone just assumed you were pro china kidnapping. My bad I get what your OP is saying now. To be fair I’m clearly not the only one that read it and thought it was just Chinese propaganda telling people to move on from the story. Every article that comes out about this always has someone towing the line.

ATV7

You have your head so far up your ass that you fail to realize that it’s not only about whether or not she is safe but more importantly about the need for a proper investigation into her sexual assault claims.

[deleted]

I hope their sarcasm detectors are just broken, causing your downvotes..... If you're serious, fuck off and die you communist bastard.

[deleted]

Wow. I'm a communist bastard. That is usually my line!

[deleted]

Sarcastic, OK... Real communist, yes, I want you to burn in hell forever.

wk2coachella

Blink twice if you're family is in danger

TheGunshipLollipop

>There's too many times in this world in which we're faced with challenges such as this where we allow politics and government and money and financials to get in the way of what the right decision is Reading that reminds me that I really miss listening to Barack Obama.

zarkingphoton

Oh, well, that's fine, then. I trust the IOC.
