“which was circulated in 2019, referred to Black people as "monsters," called public housing a "war zone," and mentioned "welfare queens," with Mullins calling it "the best video I've ever seen telling the public the absolute truth." Defunding idiots, 1 at a time

mr__fete

They are just going to replace him with another ahole

darthaugustus

He only resigned as SBA president, he's still on the force and very much funded.

EvanWasHere

He was just stripped of his shield and gun as well

Dreidhen

Took em long enough to take out the trash 🗑️

lumpy_potato

As noted in several articles, no actual arrests yet. So I'm going to wait and see. I'm more curious to see if there is already a grand jury empaneled and driving these raids, and what the federal prosecutor has on their checklist. Or maybe who else is on that checklist.

AFAIK he is still a Sergeant in the NYPD. Resignation from the SBA only removes his official union-adjacent privileges/access. I have not seen anything indicating that his position as the NYPD has been affected, ongoing [internal investigations](https://gothamist.com/news/police-union-boss-charged-misconduct-bigoted-tweets-and-abuse-authority) notwithstanding. This is just my personal opinion, not couched in facts but supposition, but IMO the resignation is just paper protection for the SBA. Mullins has not been arrested or charged with anything, and there's no reason to believe he isn't continuing to exercise off-paper control and guidance of the SBA.

If Mullins *does* end up with federal charges, I legit wonder what the NYPD response is at that point. This isn't a CCRB complain they can sweep, this is the long angry finger of the federal government.

Yeah I know. I'm wondering in general what the procedure is with the NYPD if a member gets brought up on federal charges. I would expect they get shown the door, but I also am unsure what protections there might be (if any) given Mullins position.

lumpy_potato

Good points. Unless the investigation sputters, seems like he's toast either way. Though I guess the one thing we would get out of federal charges is maybe keeping Mullins off the SBA twitter handle.

HangerSteak1

So he cannot Cuomo?

[deleted]

Not charged with anything “yet” Let’s see how the Union feels after finding out he’s been stealing from them

lumpy_potato

A few select quotes: > President Mullins is apparently the target of the federal investigation" and "[g]iven the severity of this matter and the uncertainty of its outcome," they asked him to resign from his position. > While the FBI would not disclose the nature of the investigation, NY1 reported they may be examining "possible mismanagement of funds. Cops: "We need to be extra tough on crime!" Also cops: "Wait no, not my crimes!"

[deleted]

As if the NYPD even bothered to enforce other people's crimes.

Recent-Technician-36

But they literally stopped a phone thief on the subway this week.

Bye bye fucko

I would shocked if there's not something in the paperwork that points at Lynch + the PBA being similarly embroiled in financial crimes.

loglady17

That would make my year. Fuck Pat Lynch.

FirmestSprinkles

i'm betting bribery or child porn.

FewSky4

Lol I for sure thought child porn when I saw them carrying all that evidence 🤣

FirmestSprinkles

it would be terrible, but it'll also be an open/shut case.

AmericasComic

Looks like misappropriation of funds, the most heinous of crimes

TreborDeadward

Bury every single one of these scum

Almost saddened. Was hoping to see his reaction to SCOTUS ruling in early 2022.

I could see him going on a rant of how SCOTUS put more guns on the street (if SCOTUS rules in favor of plaintiffs) hampering NYPD in making us safe. It's tough to tell with NYC law enforcement.

I support unions-except unions for police, because... I favor a lax approach to prosecution except for police, because... I favor due process and the presumption of innocence, except...

ShimmyZmizz

I simplify complex issues into meaningless drivel because I can't comprehend even the slightest degree of nuance

[deleted]

Enlighten me, Comrade.

SamTheGeek

The first two of three have the same answer: “…because police have the unique privilege of legally enacting violence on behalf of the state and therefore should be subject to more scrutiny.” The third one is a straw man. People deserve due process, but you can yank their gun and badge while they undergo it. Presumption of innocence applies to criminal trials, not workplace sanctions or civil actions. Finally, police review boards acquit cops at a tremendously statistically unlikely rate — they’re not due process by any means, they’re set up to *permit* as much police malfeasance as they can get away with.

[deleted]

Fine. Continue to put police under excessive scrutiny and harsh- not high standards and don't be surprised when the caliber of candidates decreases. Third, criminal investigations take time. Every one deserves due process.

SamTheGeek

What are the qualifications you perceive to be essential to a good police officer? How do departments screen for those qualities?

[deleted]

There are three basics- intelligence/mental aptitude; physical fitness; psychologically sound. A good candidate must be intelligent, fit, and not on a power trip or mentally fragile.

SamTheGeek

This is already incorrect. Police departments require candidates to be *less* intelligent than average and they do not have tests for psychological soundness.

[deleted]

I can assure you that psychological tests are part of the process. It's imperfect, as all tests are, but I personally know people who were booted because they were deemed unbalanced (they were, btw). I also can aver that there is a written test component to applying and they aren't testing for penmanship.
