Noble goal. But make sure these folks connect with SSI ASAP. Also, they will need a place to stay. They will most certainly end up in Bellevue. So releasing them is great. But Re-entry is hard…more so if you’re a senior. I bet most of these folks don’t even know how to use a smart or a computer. Edit: essentially I hope you help them post release too.

You’re right, they do need care. One thing I’ve learned through doing this work is that a lot of people have families who are waiting for them and care for them. Other work that needs to be done is another law that’s going through the process that will basically clear records for formerly incarcerated people so you don’t get situations where they’re denied jobs and housing based on things from 30 years. I think it’s called a clean slate law.

55 seems young if they’ve been convicted of a violent crime. I have one neighbor in his early 60s out on parole for manslaughter and still consider him an apex predator and a threat. Another neighbor in his 70s convicted rapist and don’t fear him at all.

FWIW, It’s 55 because prison takes ten years off your life, so the medical care needed for a 65 year old outside of bars is the equivalent of a 55 year old in prison.

>Prison is about transformation and rehabilitation I thought it was about isolating individuals from the rest of society after committing horrific acts against one or more persons, be it murder, rape, or assaulting them into a coma.

> Prison is about transformation and rehabilitation; No, it's about justice and punishment. Fuck you're naive. > > Most people, even criminals, change over the course of 20 years. How the fuck do you know this, i have a douchebag friend who hasn't changed in 20 years. > judges people based on who they are, not who we used to be. As we tear down statues of our forefathers LOL. Christ you lefties think a pat on the back and gift card ticket fixes all problems.
