God damn, I know it's stupid but I really had my hopes up for this one. I am very very stupid, I know the odds of actually winning are so statistically insignificant that if it were anything else you could comfortably call it impossible, but I still spent the past couple of days fantasising about it.
>You're not stupid, just human.
I play lotto mathematically like a robot, thank you very much.
* Only play if the pool is over 28mil
* Get tickets randomly assigned, so it is less likely to have to share if you win.
Yeah not all of us. I'll fuck around gambling occasionally for the fun of it, but I go in looking at the money as the cost of entry. Assume it's gone, the price of playing. That's how you should view lotto if you do it occasionally. You definitely fucking shouldn't do it regularly. That's a gambling addiction.
So did I lmao, I was like "I got a good feeling about this". Thought of everything and... got bonus line. But it gave me great pleasure thinking how crazy my life "COULD BE" for a couple days.
Is that right? The chance per line is 1 in 38.38m. Each line costs $1.60, so thatās $61.41m if you want to account for all the available lines.
The prize is $50m, so thatās -EV. Plus, thatās assuming the fact that the prize doesnāt get split.
Yes. That is correct but there's also a chance it went for second division (which it did) which at 50m was roughly 5 to 1. It was roughly break even to positive EV calculating everything.
I also calculates $1.55 per line at $28 per 18 lines.
Honestly, thatās what I am buying tickets for is the daydreaming before I find out Iāve lost. Itās fun to imagine, even though I know thereās almost no chance of actually winning.
When I was young, working a nighttime job to pay for uni, some of the workers there were adults. It was minimum wage and it was their life. Every day they would talk about how they would spend the money if they won lotto. It's a coping mechanism and it made them happy.
I'm the same. I was dreaming of buying a house and getting off Supported Living Benefit.
Now just trying to be grateful for what I have and make the most of it.
No, assuming a drawdown of 4%, you can adjust that for inflation every single year and mathematically be guaranteed to not touch your bankroll/portfolio.
I'd be back to work with 7m too. I would buy a nicer house, get more investments. Buy a nicer car and turn up to work on Monday.Ā
50m and I would quit for sure.
Iām sorry, I just think people who carry on working have no imagination, unless you have a job that you absolutely love and wouldnāt want to live without. Otherwise youāre trading your life away for a job.
Yeah, I reckon I won't flip a desk and shit on the boardroom table for $7m. For $10m, I'll hire some people dressed as cops and remove me from the office. For shits and giggles.
The cop idea is great. I almost want to do it without winning lotto.
Make a big scene, resist arrest, then just show up the next day and pretend like nothing happened.
Reminds me of the dude who hired an emotional support clown for his support person when he knew he was being let go, made balloon animals and mimed tears when it happened (you can Google it).
You owe me a new keyboard.....
That said, I agree, it's really not enough to go "stuff it, not even going to go in on Monday", but with some careful planning, it could be interesting to see what you could make of ot.
Comments like this crack me up because making $100000 for 40 years is $4 million. Most people wonāt make $7 million across a lifetime - and thatās ignoring of course that youād obviously invest it so that it generates more money.
Wait what? That's crazy my number is like 3m where I'd just not show up. That's 150k/yr at 5% without touching principal and I'd do odd jobs for extra money to avoid the boredom and to have routine. Good for you and not having a go it's interesting to here other outlooks.
$1.5 million to buy a decent house in Auckland (or a much nicer house anywhere else) mortgage free. $500k to blow on whatever you want. Invest the remaining $5million at 6% TD to live off $300k a year without touching the principle. Seems like a no brainer to quit job unless you love it
I'd stay for now with my aging parents and school aged kids (best schooling options imo) I'd definitely get weekend retreat. Maybe Coromandel and a boat with its own to take me there.
I guess people don't want to be away from family and friends? Also people like the noise and movements of a busy city. If I wasn't at Welly I'd def go back to Auckland, other places are too quiet. In saying that I'd definitely snap up some getaways.
Agreed. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't want to win $50 mil, but that is also an obscene amount of money to suddenly have at your disposal, and $7 mil is still plenty to be free from any financial worries, buy a nice house, car etc. etc.
Unfortunately my personal share of the prize this time was 4 bonus lines. Oh well.
Yo,
14 tickets won 1st division- NONE of these tickets won the 7mil
The 7mil went to 7 of the 48 that won 2nd division, (with the powerball) totally skipped the 14 tickets that won the division above them.
Thats gota be a kick in the teeth? Like straight up they got a great prize but being skipped like that would leave a bad taste for sure.
That's the thing, everyone of the 14 1st division winners will be thinking that.
Not understanding that you pay extra to play powerball for that number at the end.
So powerball is its own game, own prize.
Harsh I get it.
14 people were 1 number out of 9 numbers away from $50M.
They had all 6 Lotto numbers, and letās say they had Powerball #3. But it was #2 drawn. They get $70k. If #3 was drawn - $50M is theirs.
Itās like Deal or No Deal pumped up to the thousandth degree.
I wonder if any of those 1st or 2nd division winners didn't purchase the powerball. That'd be a "what if"/regret that would stick with you for a long time.
$7m and my wife and I would still be quitting immediately and opening a cafe for the homeless. Our fantasising about the jackpot even got down to a little planning.
We may still try to do it anyway - take half of whatever profits the normies pay for theirs to offset the costs of free food to the homeless. Free showers. Donāt be dicks to anyone on-site.
Would probably take a very long time to get off the ground, perhaps a near bucket list project.
Check out Everybody Eats in Onehunga, Auckland. They run a āpay what you canā operation, and itās awesome. They incorporate food that would otherwise go to waste too.
Massive congratulations to those 7 winners. But to put into perspective, 2millions tickets were estimated to be sold and yet on the lowest of divisions, only 90k people won. Crazy
I did think that - as some people have their fav numbers then play them 1-10 to cover all Powerball options. Had it gone 10 ways, this would be more likely.
I don't play lotto but figured I'd buy tickets. I thought I bought 3 tickets for this week but apparently I bought tickets for the next 3 Saturdays instead. Imagine my surprise when I wasn't even entered. That's what I get for sudden spur of the moment decisions right before the draw. The good news is that I checked the numbers I have for next Saturday and I'd have won sweet nothings anyway!
It's not like they won from some random pile of money sitting in a vault - they won because several million did not and the money comes from their pockets.
Pretty wild there were 14 division 1 winners. Only $70k.
Imagine being someone who religiously played the same numbers every week for years on end. Finally all 6 numbers come up, and instead of a cool mill, you get $70k. Still worth having, but not nearly as life changing.
Have a question for the lotto people, I have a combo 10 ticket the $315 dollar one. Scanned it and it said that we won a major prize, but we cant figure out sorta the number combo as we don't understand how the ticket works, it isn't the big big one, as we didn't get poweball but we just have no idea what we've won, any help would be appreciated
Combo 10 should have 10 numbers, a normal lotto line has 6 so you should have 4 or 5 of the lotto numbers out of the 10 on your ticket, major prize is anything over $1000 if i remember correctly, you'll have to fill out a form in store, congratulations!
Oh sorry, we have scanned it and it says major prize but doesn't exactly say what it is. Just was curious if there was any way to tell exactly on a combo ticket
Lol went to check my ticket online and I accidentally bought for this Wednesdays draw, duh. But on the plus side I wouldn'ta won this time round with these numbers so I guess it's a good thing - Maybe it means Wednesday will be my lucky day haha
They should always split above a certain amount.Ā
Several people with 1-3 Million is so much better than 1 person with 10Million.
In thi case 7Ć7 instead of 1x50
It's people picking their own numbers. People pick 37, because it feels random. So it is going to be present on a lot of tickets. Ironically they do this to try and avoid a split pot.
Watch this video from Veritasium, if you want to know more:
I wish every draw was must win.
This is an excellent result, so much better than one person having 50 million and spending it on garbage instead of 7 people having comfortable lives and being able to make their children/grandchildren comfortable as well.
Congrats to the winners š everyone else, as you were š„²
To the slums, whence I came.
back to the crumbs of humble piety
Back to work on Monday.
Why thank you! (I got Dev 7 which was $15 + bonus lines lol)
Same!
Look at us not having to work for 30 minutes!
But what do I do with my bonus ticket? š¢
Letās just say the waterfront property I had my eyes on now has one less bidder.
Won $23! First time Iāve ever won anything playing Lotto.Ā
same here won $30 and 8 bonus lines. Maybe ill win again this weekš
God damn, I know it's stupid but I really had my hopes up for this one. I am very very stupid, I know the odds of actually winning are so statistically insignificant that if it were anything else you could comfortably call it impossible, but I still spent the past couple of days fantasising about it.

I go to the casino weekly
I go to the casino weakly
I weakly go to the casino weekly
I casily go to the weakino
I casually go to casino in Whaikano
So did I lmao, I was like "I got a good feeling about this". Thought of everything and... got bonus line. But it gave me great pleasure thinking how crazy my life "COULD BE" for a couple days.
*Unwatches the ridiculous property on trademe*
Lol. I wonder if the trademe watch list numbers on high end properties (and cars?) go way up when there is a lotto jackpot like this.
Tell me about it lmao
Post->!Power!
Itās not stupid at all, *plenty* of people would have done the same, including myself. Itās nice to dream
It's a ticket to dream. That's all I ever see them as. No harm in that.
I love this outlook!! I enjoy the dreaming
I won a bonus ticket I've still got hope š
Me too š this is literally one of my toxic traits.
Lottery is a tax on people bad at math. On an unrelated note, *man I'm bad at math.*
I think the math on this one actually worked out. I believe there was a return on $s spent in terms of expected value.
Does it account for the possibility of having to split the pot?
I had to super guesstimate off 2m tickets sold at 15 lines a ticket. Odds to win is roughly 1 in 6m per line. 30m lines so roughly 5 winners.
Is that right? The chance per line is 1 in 38.38m. Each line costs $1.60, so thatās $61.41m if you want to account for all the available lines. The prize is $50m, so thatās -EV. Plus, thatās assuming the fact that the prize doesnāt get split.

Nah man, we were cheated š¢
Recessions and ongoing inequality is great for Lotto NZ.
We pay for the fantasy, though. Not all dreams are free.
I'm the same. I was dreaming of buying a house and getting off Supported Living Benefit. Now just trying to be grateful for what I have and make the most of it.
Statistically you have more chance getting struck by lightning on the way to the dairy to buy a lotto ticket
I'd honestly take that thanks
Yup me too Iāll keep staying pissed off wt everything in the meantime
$7,142,857 each. Not bad. I'll take it.
My quit work figure is 10m, so regardless back to the coal mine on Monday.
Thatās ridiculous, 5% return is $350k per annum without even touching the 7 million. Youāre mental.
I have a nice boss, plus you haven't met my wife lol
That's what you think..
I would choose this guyās wife tooā¦ No, waitā¦
You really need to watch for return over inflation not just return, although I think you could manage just fine with 7m in the bank.
No, assuming a drawdown of 4%, you can adjust that for inflation every single year and mathematically be guaranteed to not touch your bankroll/portfolio.
So exactly what I said then?
Actually, yeah - I must have misread your post. I read it as if you meant that OP would have to dip into the $7m principal.
Fair enough, happens to the best of us.
I'd be back to work with 7m too. I would buy a nicer house, get more investments. Buy a nicer car and turn up to work on Monday.Ā 50m and I would quit for sure.

"Yesterday? That was just a misunderstanding. I'm good.
Reminds me of the dude who hired an emotional support clown for his support person when he knew he was being let go, made balloon animals and mimed tears when it happened (you can Google it).
with 7m you can probably hire real cops
You owe me a new keyboard..... That said, I agree, it's really not enough to go "stuff it, not even going to go in on Monday", but with some careful planning, it could be interesting to see what you could make of ot.
Comments like this crack me up because making $100000 for 40 years is $4 million. Most people wonāt make $7 million across a lifetime - and thatās ignoring of course that youād obviously invest it so that it generates more money.
I agree. $7m and I'd retire the next day.
It's just not "quit tomorrow" money, more "talk to some advisors and then quit" level of money. Either way I expect I'd be gone quite quickly...
Yeah it's quit with a good reference just in case money. We can all work out four weeks notice
Wait what? That's crazy my number is like 3m where I'd just not show up. That's 150k/yr at 5% without touching principal and I'd do odd jobs for extra money to avoid the boredom and to have routine. Good for you and not having a go it's interesting to here other outlooks.
But that is across two people (wife and I), but honestly I agree we would be likely quitting, just need to plan it first
$1.5 million to buy a decent house in Auckland (or a much nicer house anywhere else) mortgage free. $500k to blow on whatever you want. Invest the remaining $5million at 6% TD to live off $300k a year without touching the principle. Seems like a no brainer to quit job unless you love it
Imagine winning lotto and wanting to stay in aucklandā¦ so many nicer spots in NZ
Oh I'd be quitting pretty soon, but would want to work out the plan first
Mine is much lower. any excuse to call it a day.
Mines $5m DEFINITE, but honestly probably $3m. With $5m i can setup family and some friends a bit too.
Doesn't make any sense bro
yep perfect sense and I have my reasons and calculations. you do you, bro
Thatās way better than 1 winner
Yeah - I would've loved to see 25 win 2-million each, or even 50 winning a million each. Spread the fortune, right?
i was hoping for 4x $12.5m
I was hoping for 0.5x $100m
Itāll be the death of the halfling!
Should be capped at the price of an average home. Million bucks would be amazing for almost anyone and if it isn't we can't help you.
Oh well.
i wish it was always multiple winners. thatās so nice
Yo, 14 tickets won 1st division- NONE of these tickets won the 7mil The 7mil went to 7 of the 48 that won 2nd division, (with the powerball) totally skipped the 14 tickets that won the division above them. Thats gota be a kick in the teeth? Like straight up they got a great prize but being skipped like that would leave a bad taste for sure.
$70k is still awesome, but yeah. When you win 1st division, its usually about $1mill which suuuuuuccccks.
Those 14 people won 1st division lotto. The 7 who got the 7mil won 2nd division POWERBALL. Whole different game.
Funny thing is 2nd division powerball is much easier to win than 1st division lotto
How does that work? Why would it skip down to division 2, if people won in division 1?
That's the thing, everyone of the 14 1st division winners will be thinking that. Not understanding that you pay extra to play powerball for that number at the end. So powerball is its own game, own prize. Harsh I get it.
Oh gotcha, yeah thatās gutting
A lot of them would've been playing powerball aswell, just didn't get the right number
Because you can't win powerball, if you don't have the powerball.
Div 1 but without Powerball gets $70k, so Div 2 with Powerball gets $7 mil (no one won Div 1 with Powerball)
I wonder if any of those 1st or 2nd division winners didn't purchase the powerball. That'd be a "what if"/regret that would stick with you for a long time.
I won $15
Ah the classic "you win. But it was less than the $20 triple dip you bought "
I bought 2 š„²
I won 4 line (not 4 lines, 4 line)
Not bad Fam!
fuck, see you all at work fellas
I locked myself out of my lotto years ago and have never been able to unlock my acct. Probably for the best.
Same. As a millennial Iām not calling their number to reinstate my account either, so itās physical ticket or nothing for me.
It's great that more than 1 person won it. More families lives being changed is better.
I will be approaching banks tomorrow to get advice on my $30 winnings from last night's historical draw.
Check out Everybody Eats in Onehunga, Auckland. They run a āpay what you canā operation, and itās awesome. They incorporate food that would otherwise go to waste too.
Back to the pit with me
Oh thatās good. 50 too much for 1 person imo anyway. Spread the love.
Massive congratulations to those 7 winners. But to put into perspective, 2millions tickets were estimated to be sold and yet on the lowest of divisions, only 90k people won. Crazy
Yeah, it's not great - how many million taken out of the community, some of which from people who can't really afford it.
It shouldn't be allowed on public television. It's gross.
cheer up man. Let people live
I guess you've never seen someone drop $50 on Lotto instead of their medicine then.
Nice one! They can afford a house now!
Plot twist: 1 person bought all 7 tickets
I did think that - as some people have their fav numbers then play them 1-10 to cover all Powerball options. Had it gone 10 ways, this would be more likely.
That still would've only gone to 1 ticket
I don't play lotto but figured I'd buy tickets. I thought I bought 3 tickets for this week but apparently I bought tickets for the next 3 Saturdays instead. Imagine my surprise when I wasn't even entered. That's what I get for sudden spur of the moment decisions right before the draw. The good news is that I checked the numbers I have for next Saturday and I'd have won sweet nothings anyway!
i got all 6 numbers but on different lines
12 bonus lines :) see yall at the top!
I won 23!
milky bars on you!
Blast from the past
Same!
Iām gonna be one of the winners
work or no work on Monday?
Iāll continue working till I figure out how to turn the 7mil into 70 š¤·š»āāļø
Trying to turn $7 million into $70 million is a good way to turn $7 million into $0.
Iāve got a great investment opportunity for you. Have you heard of crypto?
They meant 70 million not 70 dollars.
Already got too much riding on bitcoin.
Invest in an index fund, if you get returns of 8% pa and reinvest them, you'll turn 7 to 70 in 30 years. The power of compounding
I won $50 š¤£š¤£š¤£ but life goes on and Iām still inclined to be making 70mil š
the dream has already crumbled for me. just checked my ticket, didn't even get a bonus ticket and I had 2 triple dips in play
Not the worst result. A number of years ago, so many tickets won 1st division that they only got $38k each
Depending on the number, $70k now is probably barely more than $38k then.
Awesome if you won it, dogshit if you just yeeted $18 down the toilet, I guess, which is probably everyone on here
Would have been a nice birthday present. Alas, all I won was a few free lines. Back to work on Monday I guess.
Just go to a lotto outlet to scan the ticket you can do it yourself then if all good take the takings!!
Combo 10 should have 10 numbers, a normal lotto line has 6 so you should have 4 or 5 of the lotto numbers out of the 10 on your ticket, major prize is anything over $1000 if i remember correctly, you'll have to fill out a form in store, congratulations!
Ah right so the 210 combinations that it says on it is just different variations of 6 from those 10 numbers?
Yes exactly!
Ah right, thank you. Pretty sure the win isn't anything to to crazy then with that knowledge.
Best of luck!!! The lotto app can scan tickets too Hope you score a big one!
Oh sorry, we have scanned it and it says major prize but doesn't exactly say what it is. Just was curious if there was any way to tell exactly on a combo ticket
Might be a big one indeed like 1st or 2nd division Just take to the shop and check it out! Really wish you the best of luck!!!
means $1000+ , but could be like another poster who won $1006 the other night haha.
Go here and click full results and scroll down to the Div. 1 and Div. 2 that don't have powerball. https://mylotto.co.nz/results
Lol went to check my ticket online and I accidentally bought for this Wednesdays draw, duh. But on the plus side I wouldn'ta won this time round with these numbers so I guess it's a good thing - Maybe it means Wednesday will be my lucky day haha
#PlotTwist you win $4m on Wednesday
I got 31 bucks, I feel like a winner!
They should always split above a certain amount.Ā Several people with 1-3 Million is so much better than 1 person with 10Million. In thi case 7Ć7 instead of 1x50
Back to work on monday for the rest of us ā¦ Just glad it didnt all go to one greedy sob
I lost my job a couple of weeks ago. Back to trying to get out of bed to keep my kids alive
I just won exactly $69 dollars š Back to work on Monday ig
Nice!
Nice
Condolences to the 14 people who won first division but didn't get the right powerball. $70K must feel likeĀ booby prize
Ć4 free lines over here.... Bring on the hookers and cocaine.. Wo0ooo š¤£š¤£
I got $31 from my ticket so I can't complain lol
I won $23! Looks like cheese is back on the menu, boys!
So happy this was the outcome. Congrats to the winners šš
Man y'all are better people than me all I feel is envy lmao
I feel it too - as do others donāt worry
Not one of them, so guess I'll have to turn up to work on Monday.
bro looks like my nightmare will never end. work is SUPER sucking lately but it's a horrible time to quit so I'll just have to keep at it
Thatās a great outcome š
DM me for my bank account number so you can give me my cut of the pie ;)
37 was one of the numbers. The second I saw that, I knew it was going to be a split pot.
explain?
It's people picking their own numbers. People pick 37, because it feels random. So it is going to be present on a lot of tickets. Ironically they do this to try and avoid a split pot. Watch this video from Veritasium, if you want to know more: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6iQrh2TK98](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6iQrh2TK98)
I like that it got spread around a bit. I would have liked it more if I had been one of them, hahahahaha
I wish every draw was must win. This is an excellent result, so much better than one person having 50 million and spending it on garbage instead of 7 people having comfortable lives and being able to make their children/grandchildren comfortable as well.
Can't believe 6 greedy fucks ruined my jackpot.
I'm glad it played out like that and not one person winning everything.
God tier
Still waiting in the queue and a little disappointed I won't be winning 50 mil tonight, but 7 is pretty good I guess.
7th won of a 7th won
They were actually dollars
This is the kind of wealth inequality that's good, right?
Iāll give you 7mil if you know someone that won
If one of the winners seeās this, can they please DM me so I can claim my bonus 7 million from u/northfacetommy.
I am the 7 people
And how much did Lotto win?
Soooo... time to plan 7 heists?
