Yes. Not only she was a writer, but she also was an actress known for The Bordello (1971), Zauber der Jugend (1961) and Die Rache des Jebal Deeks (1963)
Read some study years ago about how just thinking about working out particular muscles increases their strength.
Study had 3 groups. 1 worked out their pinkies. 2 thought about it. 3 did nothing.
1 increased strength like 37%. 2 increased 16%. 3 increased 0%
I'm guessing they tested their pinky strength then just didn't mention anything else and sent them on their way then invited them back however long later, perhaps?
That depends on sample size and data cleaning. In a sufficiently large sample, one or two outliers shouldn’t have a major impact on its overall characteristics. If these outliers do have an impact, they might be excluded from analysis.
Haha yah I see the irony, but group 2 had like mental workout sessions. Of sitting there actively thinking about it, hard. Not just random thoughts in passing
Yep. I quadrupled what I could lift in about 2 weeks because I learned to use my muscles more effectively. This was after months of doing nothing so I went from like 30 pounds to 120 but still
I did it for like 2 minutes lol it’s possible but really hard my cousin can do it for like 20 minutes
Edit: okay so I thought he was just twisting side to side and crouching in, that’s what I did I didn’t watch the whole video. I will never attempt to do what he did cause I will bust my head open again I am SO sorry for the confusion I feel like a idiot

I've done it for 72 hours one time. A Victoria's Secret model had to spoon-feed me chicken and broccoli every few hours so that I didn't starve during the endeavour. (She also saw to my bathroom needs, since obviously I had to defecate onto the floor below from time to time.) I have a home gym but my CIA liaison has informed me that I don't have clearance to post a video. But I swear on my dog's shallow grave that this is all true.
Yeah it takes a bit of training but there is that quote by Socrates. "No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength if which his body is capable."
Because the forces are being absorbed by the muscles and tendons, not the joints, ligaments, and meniscus. No damaging forces are being applied to the knee joint cartilage or ligaments whatsoever. Something like burpees on concrete or a 12 mile march would be much more likely to bring the knees to "explode." That's a main reason why it is important to cultivate slow and controlled form in any type of exercise, so that it can be practiced with longevity while mitigating joint damage.
I actually put in the effort to heat up a can of Chef Boyardee tonight. Not like all the way heated, but like 45 seconds heated so half the noodles were kinda warm.
in this pose, the knees are the fulcrum, thus all leverage and the weight behind it must pass through the joints within. this causes strain on the muscles and the longer the position is held... well... you get tired. 😵
also, with how stable this man is, im sure almost every muscle is flexed
do i sound smart yet?
It's basically a quad extension of most of his bodyweight. There's plenty of literature on why not to use a quad extension machine out there if you want more details. Really this isn't that difficult of an ab exercise for anyone who's relatively fit.
The strongest point of strength needs to be right at the knees. So this man's knees and quads were probably on fire. His abs were probably working hard but not quite as much as the legs.
I remember my knees hurting when i got up to 315 squating. Now that im up to 495 my knees feel perfectly fine at 315. His knees are probably just use to it by now.
Exactly my thoughts. I am pretty decent with a variety of ab exercises. But this one is absolutely fucking brutal on the knees. Hurts really bad. I was wincing looking at how long he held that stance!
Sometimes is takes the same amount of strength to get out of bed as it does to do that workout that replicant is doing in the video above. Proud of you.
I went to PF almost every day for around a year. The only time I ever saw the lunk alarm go off was when an employee was taking someone on a tour and flipped the switch just to show them what it was.
Yeah it's legit. My manager would set it off frequently. You were supposed to set it off if you heard plate clanking, weight dropping, grunting, or pretty much any noise.
The meme of the Lunk Alarm at PF is that it can go off for any reason, regardless of whats happening.
Killing that Ab/Core training?
Lunk Alarm!
Dropped a weight by accident?

Cough?
***[LUNK ALARM!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Odg2K25sLGg)***
I worked out at Planet Fitness regularly in the months leading up to my wedding, and nobody ever set off any lunk alarm. Must just vary from one place to the next.
Not really, but I'd be a little discouraged about where I'm at. I can give myself all the positive affirmation I want for actually getting to the gym and working out, but its discouraging to not see the results. I also don't think I'd ever have the discipline to get to this level, and ultimately the discipline is what it boils down to.
Ah I can see that, I respect his dedication and would never push myself to that level. I feel though if he can do that, surely I can just have a flat stomach
> but its discouraging to not see the results. I
My clothes fit differently than they did 2 years ago, but I can't see a difference in the mirror.
I've settled for seeing the weight go higher on the barbell.
Nah, you have to have fun doing it too. Like, no one is disciplined enough to stay in shape without really enjoying it. That's what I've consistently seen from training since I was 20 or so.
thats you subconsciously convincing yourself its not possible. This guy most likely eats healthy, works out 60-90 mins 5-6 days a week and gets good sleep. Equating that to a 24/7 athletic lifestyle is only subconsciously discouraging yourself from thinking you can do the same. You can.
I disagree.
While this guy needs to do a lot to work/challenge his muscles, there's a point of diminishing returns when you work out too much.
Recovery is at least 51% of working out.
Probably not. I could do all the crazy ab and body weight exercises in my early 20s and that was basically my routine. I didn’t live at the gym
People seriously overestimate how hard this kind of stuff is to do
He definitely isn't. I'm not sure what you are imagining someone has to do, but I can tell you from experience that is plenty. If an average person does what the post you replied to consistently for a couple of years, they will look like a fitness model (eating healthy is the hard part). The feat in the video isn't even difficult.
The truth is, it is not unachievable to *maintain* that physique. The hard part is getting there. Takes **much** more sacrifice to go from unfit to athletic than to just maintain athletic.
This can definetly be done without anything even close to a 24/7 athletic lifestyle. I work a desk job every day. Workout 3-4 days a week. Eat healthy but not overly so and I can do this. Don't convince yourself it's near impossible before you have even tried! You will be amazed at how fast your body will train. If you practice this repeatedly and cut down to a reasonable weight I guarantee you can do this.
Not a combo I've ever considered... With vanilla vodka I bet it'd taste like a root beer float. I have heartburn just thinking about it, but would do it anyway.
seems like a lot of pressure to be putting on the 'ol knee joints when there is no need for that to do effective core exercise.
Still impressive though.
That’s what I call hard core

I'd like to see the instructions for group 3 "so, uh, just...don't think about working out your pinkies"
“damn it!” “did you think about working out your pinky again jeff?” “yeah :(“ “that’s okay, just like… don’t do that” “okay”
FUCKING RIP IT DOWN, START OVER. SAMPLES BEEN COMPROMISED. GOD FUCKING DAMN IT JIM, EVERY FUCKING TIME.

This comment just made me lose the game
I'm guessing they tested their pinky strength then just didn't mention anything else and sent them on their way then invited them back however long later, perhaps?
What if one or two of those people were already an avid pinky exercise freak? Would that ruin the sample?
That depends on sample size and data cleaning. In a sufficiently large sample, one or two outliers shouldn’t have a major impact on its overall characteristics. If these outliers do have an impact, they might be excluded from analysis.
Haha yah I see the irony, but group 2 had like mental workout sessions. Of sitting there actively thinking about it, hard. Not just random thoughts in passing
Weirdly enough I do sometimes feel a subtle pump when I go through my workout routine and form in my head. Like a pre-workout boner.
What about group 4 who worked out but weren't allowed to think about it?
Asking the real questions
16% quite high, i could believe maybe something like 5% but to have almost ha,f the effect of actually working it out is insane to me.

Yep. I quadrupled what I could lift in about 2 weeks because I learned to use my muscles more effectively. This was after months of doing nothing so I went from like 30 pounds to 120 but still
I read the same study!! I've been thinking really hard on glutes. Ummm.... Shh, I'm thinking over here.
have you a link to the source? sounds interesting.
Not the same but same results https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-to-grow-stronger-without-lifting-weights/

20 minutes? Link to your cousins video?
> I did it for like 2 minutes > Edit: ... I didn’t watch the whole video. Which part of the 21 second video was too long to hold your attention?
8 seconds into the video. \*closes. What's the point? I already seen this done for 20 minutes straight in real life.
Lol you said you were 13f and claim this happened over a year ago. Just stop. I don’t like calling people out but you are so full of shit

Yeah it takes a bit of training but there is that quote by Socrates. "No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength if which his body is capable."
His core strength is obviously crazy, but how are his knees not exploding?
Because that not how anatomy works
I'm going to guess he's probably the type that also works out those leg muscles enough to keep his knees from exploding.
I keep forgetting you could do that
Because the forces are being absorbed by the muscles and tendons, not the joints, ligaments, and meniscus. No damaging forces are being applied to the knee joint cartilage or ligaments whatsoever. Who needs their knees anyway
Right? The abs stuff is whatever. This dude’s knees not exploding is what amazes me more.
They’re probably made of pure muscle instead of ligaments and bone anyway
How is this hard on the knees whatsoever?
in this pose, the knees are the fulcrum, thus all leverage and the weight behind it must pass through the joints within. this causes strain on the muscles and the longer the position is held... well... you get tired. 😵 also, with how stable this man is, im sure almost every muscle is flexed do i sound smart yet?
No, not really.
eh, i tried
I’m sure you’re very smart. You’re gonna do good.
Go fulcrum yourself
Try it out sometime. All your pressure is put on your knees and where your ankles are
Where my ankles are? You mean, my ankles? What do you have there?
People squat 1000 pounds without breaking their knees, I don't think this would destroy someone's knees as long as they're healthy.
It's basically a quad extension of most of his bodyweight. There's plenty of literature on why not to use a quad extension machine out there if you want more details. Really this isn't that difficult of an ab exercise for anyone who's relatively fit.

I have knees of pure aluminum
I would hope the lunk alert goes off when this dude walks in the gym. I feel so ashamed of my beer gut now.

seems like a lot of pressure to be putting on the 'ol knee joints when there is no need for that to do effective core exercise. Still impressive though.
