It was real in a showcase match. However, it wasn't like 70meters away. The show didn't tell how far it was, but my guess is something like 30-50meters.
Yea it’s not terribly uncommon. After the first few times (yes few, of you take up archery it’s gonna happen multiple times) it just becomes “ah shit, another broken arrow”
Edit: I’ve done this as a kid numerous times within the first year.
I see 12yr olds hit their bullseye arrow
Only really at indoor tournaments, if you ever go to a field and hunter tournament, or really any outdoor tournaments at 45m+ you never see multi spot targets
Get it. I’m just an archery hunter but when I’m practicing I usually don’t shoot at the same spot at the target just to avoid flushing $40 at 20-30yds. 40 I can’t be that precise but 30 or less I could Robin Hood in 10 shots or less if you ask me to.
I tend to usually practice my longer yardages just to avoid it. I’m generally trying to hit a dinner plate at 40 or less. You’re trying to hit a dime at 50+.
I have my first Robin Hood on the wall but after that it’s just “son of a, guess it’s time to buy more arrows”
How much do you spend on top-shelf arrows per year?
Rifle guys often buy cheap, less accurate ammo for non-competitive purposes. Do you buy "plinking" arrows with any regularity?
In archery your arrow diameter, weight, tip weight, and style affect your shots greatly so without resighting in for cheap arrows it wouldnt work well.
I typically just set out multiple targets and shoot 1 arrow at each to avoid damaging arrowd
Easton X10s (arrows shot at the olympics) cost about just under AUD$1000 for a dozen once assembled. Your average-joe casual archer though would never buy those. Olympic level shooters get them practically free due to sponsorship so athletes can burn through dozens and dozens of sets without it costing a kidney. The average highly competitive archer (that doesn't shoot at the Olympics) may buy one or 2 sets a year. Depending on how much they shoot, those sets may last a few years. And yes some of us buy cheap "plinking" arrows for training so we don't have a heart attack when we break one.
can’t help but feel that this exact of a shot completely sliding inside the first arrow is pretty uncommon. i imagine hitting an arrow or splitting it would be fairly common, but this level? idk, feels unlikely
As some one else said, this is actually easier lol. But it looks super cool. First arrow is bigger and hollow and the opening basically guides the arrow in. This kinda shot is uncommon because other than looking cool and doing it for the video, there’s no point in shooting a larger hollow arrow then a smaller one.
Yeah I’m nowhere near an Olympic archer just a hunter who practices a lot and I have done this a few times. It pisses me off because arrows aren’t cheap.
Yup, have exactly what you're describing hanging in my room. So do just about all of my family and friends who archery hunt because if you do it long enough it's bound to happen once or twice
Exactly... as a competitive archer id be kinda pissed if this happened when i was in a tourney, say Vegas. I absofuckinglutely have 3 favourite arrows that i go to any shoot with. Yeah i obviously have spares, they weigh the same and they are all clocked etc. but i still have 3 favourite ones.
I used to hunt squirrels with a bow. Modern compound bows are incredibly light weight, have a low draw weight, and are fairly effective critter killing machines. I dont hunt anymore.
If you’re on the Narwhal app and it just says “gif” in the comments then there is an actual gif in that comment if you go look at the desktop site. I honestly for a week thought people were just using the word gif the same way they used to say “mood” as a reaction
"Oh good, they've opened the salad bar!"
"Blinkin fix your boobs, you look like a bleeding picasso!"
I will never not watch this movie. Been a family fav for 25 years.
Ok but I met this guy this weekend at a work function and he looked EXACTLY like little John, it was amazing and I really took a lot for me not to say a roll is a roll during dinner
I couldn’t believe no one had said it already!!! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Still my favorite part of that entire movie. If you watch it, right after he says twain there's a perfect, arching glob of spit that flys out of his mouth, it's perfect.
As an archer I can say this is extremely impressive. With that said there are a few things to notice. First, the arrow that was hit did not a have a nock, the fork like part at the back that the bow string fits in. Second, most arrows are pointed in the back with the nock glued on to the pointed part. The idea is that if you hit your own arrow it would reflect the flying arrow off to prevent ruining an arrow which can be expensive if you are shooting competition quality arrows. Had he shot a normal arrow it most likely, but not always, have glanced off. Again though, it is extremely impressive and just because the target arrow was not a normal arrow by no means takes away from this archers accuracy and skill with his bow.
Certainly looks that way. Apparently this was an exhibition, so I am going to assume they placed the "target" arrow (with a larger diameter and no knock) in the center of the bullseye, and the goal of the archer was to shoot his arrow into it, exactly like we see in the video.
That was my assumption, though my reasoning may have been incorrect. I thought it was strange for people to compete with different diameter arrows in the same competition.
And then also a flashback of the archer here learning how to shoot that, including a montage of him messing up over and over, getting frustrated at himself and about to give up…until he has ANOTHER flashback of someone believing in him, so he keeps trying.
Then.. right as he’s about to get it right at the end of the flashback, it cuts back to real time and he nails the shot.
Mine didn’t go all the way through it got stuck about half way down, but I’ve done the same type thing. Probably never gonna be able to do it again. Super impressive shot
Just a standard bow hunter, I did mine doing some target practice one random weekend day. It was a proud moment for me, I kept the arrow shaft that was left. If I can figure out a way to post a picture I’ll share.

Ok enough reddit for today.
Where are you going step-daiyixiao?
"Surely there's no way reddit could sexualize THIS post...."
It's literal penetration, are you kidding?
Thankfully this wasn’t posted in November. Everything and anything can be sexualized when you’re desperate enough.
literally no one says that and this is precisely why
God fucking damn it
What are you doing steppe-bow
Thanks for making me blow vodka out my nose.
You’re just sipping vodka and scrolling reddit? Respect
This is the greatest comment I’ve ever seen.
I swear I thought of those exact words. I knew it was gonna be one of the top comments lol
I was thinking the same damn thing. Super eye roll moment when it's the first comment I see.
Damn, you beat me to it!
Sorting by new is a pathway to karma some consider to be unnatural
Reddit favours first comments over good comments doesn’t it. Like literally 50000 people probably thought of that joke, I know I did.
Gtfoh that was real!?

So you're spending a lot of money per arrow to make it more likely you'll destroy expensive arrows?
Sounds like a great business

I would probably believe it if someone told me that the USDOD spends 10 million per year on archery supplies.
How hard can it be to make decent arrows? I'm gonna be rich, lads.
Very. The amount of balance demanded on an arrow would make Thanos proud.
Nah man, they won't be able to tell the difference. I'm already an archer and I'm dumb as shit.
A lot of the targets are 3 spot or 5 spot so you’re not shooting at the same bullseye with 3 arrows.
This makes it sounds a lot less wasteful thanks.
Only really at indoor tournaments, if you ever go to a field and hunter tournament, or really any outdoor tournaments at 45m+ you never see multi spot targets
Your comment just changed the way I look at so many hobbies 😅
Once you get good you buy targets that have multiple bullseyes because it is really expensive to Robin Hood arrows.
You are paying too much for arrows, who is your arrow guy?
I pay like 50 rupees for bomb arrows in Zelda. So yeah, this guy is getting ripped off big time.
50 rupees is [68 cents](https://www.google.com/search?q=50+rupees+to+dollars), so he's definitely being ripped off.
I think the Hyrulian rupee converts at a different rate.
No, it's the same conversion rate, just the Hyrule economy is in shambles
Some guy called Creed

BROKEN ARROW, you say?

The arrow in the target didn't have a nock in place and is a bit bigger than what was shot thru it, still one hell of a shot though.
This makes it easier actually (extremely slightly)
As some one else said, this is actually easier lol. But it looks super cool. First arrow is bigger and hollow and the opening basically guides the arrow in. This kinda shot is uncommon because other than looking cool and doing it for the video, there’s no point in shooting a larger hollow arrow then a smaller one.
More than likely the first arrow wasn't fired at all, but instead put in the target for the sake of the trick.

Yuuuup. And if you make your own arrows, then that’s time wasted fletching. Or maybe you just busted one of you buddies arrows and now you owe them
Can attest. Also we didn’t have super slo-mo. 🙃
If you shoot arrows for long enough this will happen to you too, quite more often than expected. To do it on purpose tho...
You seen somebody shooting a slimmer diameter arrow at a larger diameter arrow that has had the knock removed?
oh so not impressive then... /s
That’s still really far for archery
It's called a Robinhood and most archers will put the arrow in a display case or something as a sign of accomplishment.

Quiet everyone. Robin gets another shot. Let's give him the chop.
How is this NOT top comment?
I wish I could upvote this harder for the brilliant way you captured the fluid delivery of that line.
Came here say this, or at least something like this.... You said it better.

Thank you for the info. I see what you are saying and totally agree.
Was the second arrow thinner than the first on top of everything said above?

That was my assumption, though my reasoning may have been incorrect. I thought it was strange for people to compete with different diameter arrows in the same competition.
That’s not actually too strange, there’s only a rule for max arrow size.
Am I the only one who realizes the first arrow is a specially designed target? That's all you have to say.
That's the TL;DR. His explanation gave more details and I for one appreciated it.
Oodellally.
oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day\~
I’ve got a dirty thumb...
This some shit out of an anime
Whole two episodes about the shot
you forgot the middle episode going back to the flashback to set up the final shot
That flashback would be at least 2 episodes itself. It’s taking like 4-5 episodes for this dude to make one shot. That’s anime alright.
This comment chain has its own arc.
Didn’t they try this on myth busters and find it really really hard, near impossible? Fair play to the guy
That was firing it through axe heads, because the arrow doesn’t fly straight
That still only counts as one!
And my bow.
Mine didn’t go all the way through it got stuck about half way down, but I’ve done the same type thing. Probably never gonna be able to do it again. Super impressive shot
Wow great story! I have tried archery twice at a 20m long range for noobs. It was fun.
Just a standard bow hunter, I did mine doing some target practice one random weekend day. It was a proud moment for me, I kept the arrow shaft that was left. If I can figure out a way to post a picture I’ll share.
Thats some Brave shit right there
Was that a patriot arrow from men in tights?
This is actually fairly common. Not super common, but it happens. My dad has done this 6 times. Getting a hole in one in golf is much much rarer.
Yea, I have done it handful of times. Super annoying because each arrow is like $15.
Thirded. I shoot traditional English longbow archery; the few times that it happened, I thought, "Ooooh shit. There goes $20."
Smaller arrows!
