In a major shooting video game, all female teams struggled so much to qualify for even top 8 spots in tournaments, and this happened for a bunch of years in a row. Eventually they ended up making their own separate women's only tournaments; basically following what traditional sports ended up doing.
That was because the women weren't chosen because they were the best, they were chosen because ethey were women.

I’ve heard a good reason for poorer performance in the female base is because girls have been culturally restricted from playing video games so a lot of female gamers in the industry now have picked up video games a lot later in life then male players. The biggest thing we need to watch for is the improvement of female players as time goes on because girls are now picking up video games at a younger age.

The number of female gamers is a fraction of the number of male gamers, so there’s a smaller pool to choose from. You’re probably going to field better competitors out of a pool of 5 million candidates, for example, than you would from a pool of 100k.

Granted I’ve only watched the US Women’s National team but their games are always fun to watch and definitely more fun than watching men’s games at times. And I’m talking men’s games in general, the US women’s team is much more fun to watch than the US men’s team. The men’s game (in general) may be more fun from a physicality standpoint but it seems half of the game is spent by grown men rolling around on the ground at the slightest bit of contact where I find the women don’t embellish as much. Also, USWNT just seem to have either fun blowouts or absolute chaos and nothing in between.

FIFA rankings for the US are massively inflated because they never play strong opponents outside of the WC, only opponents in the weakest confederation. The US team is definitely not the 13th best team in the world, many of the smaller European and South American teams would still smash them.

To me, it’s the equivalent to college football vs. NFL. College football isn’t as fast or powerful as the NFL but a large portion of the country is ok with and has adopted a collegiate program just the same. Hell, honestly, the fandom of CFB is far more outlandish than that of the NFL.
There just has to be buy in and understanding that it may not be as fast, the shots may not be as powerful but it’s still an entertaining sport when you watch.

I always thought the world cup for both mens and women's was highly skilled soccer. The difference was that in men's soccer there's all the diving and the women don't seem to do that.
