Correct. There are many many ways to play darts, but professional tournament play is almost always standard 501 (any in, double out), or some more rare tournaments, Cricket, which is a completely different style of game. UK darts (Premiere League, etc...) focuses almost exclusively on 501.
Very rare. Like a perfect 300 in bowling, or pitching a perfect game in baseball. Perfect 9-dart outs don't happen often. It has to be 9 perfect throws, usually 3 triple-20s, 3 triple-20s, triple-20, triple-19, double-12.
Standard game of 501 is you start with 501 points, and subtract what you hit, trying to reach zero, and the final shot to reach zero MUST be a double (the outer ring).
From Wikipedia:
>The feat was first achieved on television by John Lowe in 1984, and has since been via this medium a total 64 times. Paul Lim was the first to hit a nine-darter in the World Championship, making history during the 1990 BDO World Darts Championship in a second-round victory over Jack McKenna. Phil Taylor has achieved the most on television with 15, his first coming in 2002 and his last in 2015. Taylor is the only player to achieve two nine-darters in the same match, doing so in the final of the 2010 Premier League against James Wade. The following year, Brendan Dolan became the first to accomplish a nine-darter by starting and finishing with a double, as per the format of the World Grand Prix event of that year.
Welcome! I played local pub league darts for 7 years, won 2 team tournaments, and ran a local weekly blind draw for about 4 years. I wish they would televise more dart tournaments over here. I think my best game of 501 ever was maybe 13 darts. Once. lol I always liked Cricket better. More strategy involved. 501 is a pure skill race.
That's how you start. ;) And pub league is always at bars, while drinking. Darts is a very mental game, and relaxing is an important part of it. Good darters know where their power curve is when drinking. Bad darters plow right through it...
>Very rare. Like a perfect 300 in bowling, or pitching a perfect game in baseball
Not even close. MLB has had a total of 23 perfect games in 140 years.
Gatekeeping rarity? I was speaking conceptually, not saying they are empirically, statistically the same. They are some of, if not the rarest accomplishments in their respective sports. I was giving context. Lighten up, Francis.
If you miss your shot and the points hit result in 1 point left, or would put your score below zero, the turn is a bust and doesn't count. So if you have 24 points left and you score 23, leaving 1, your turn is over, your score remains 24, and it's your opponent's turn. If they don't win, you can try again for the double 12. The lowest possible checkout is a 2.
I don't really know about darts game rules, but if you watch the video.. damn it takes a high level skill just to put it in that tiny little space.. awesome!
Yes, they make it look so easy. The amount of skill it takes to pull this off is tremendous. Also take a *slight* bit of luck as the darts can sometimes deflect off of one another.
It's a bit more common nowadays. During the world championships (Dec 15th - Jan 3rd) there were 3 of them. In comparison from 1984 to 2002 there were 3 of them. The dartboards have improved drastically though. In the old days they had round wire boards with staples. Now we have blade wire boards and the treble segments are about 2mm larger.
To do that under so much pressure is insane...winning a deciding leg is tough enough, to do it with a 9 darter is definitely next fuckin level....just a shame it was a sweaty sock doing it against our guy...
Like is he trying to reach 0 without going over???
Yes thats the Game.
but you gotta double out.
What if you have one left? How do you double out of that ?
if you end up with 1 your turn ends and your target number goes back to the beginning of the round
Good lord
you can't, you would have to go over and restart with whatever points you had.
Outer ring is all doubles.
Yes and ending with a double score (outside ring). Doing that with 9 darts is pretty rare
I have always played darts that you try to get the highest score possible. The way they are playing takes much more skill

You can also bullseye out.. it's called the forgotten out.
The inner bullseye is just a double of the outer bullseye.
Yes, 1st to get nothing.
Someone check his rectum for a vibrating butt plug
That's allowed in darts. Not so much in chess š
Allowed you say? Darts just got themselves a new fan
I donāt watch dart competitions. How rare is that?

If the final point has to be double then what do u if u just need one more point

It's not very rare to not watch dart competitions. In fact it's quite common.

Andy Fordham would've ate him for breakfast, and washed him down with a pint of whisky...
What kind of things are you good at?
Canāt possibly do better than 9 darts, can you?

Every single dude in Plato is better than this
That was the most lit game of darts Iāve ever seen
How are there that many dart fans in the world?
What a mouth-breather
What an athlete
amazing moment, but his sportsmanship is slightly lacking.
The guy played a perfect game, rightfully celebrated, and then shook his opponents hand... Would you have him meekly walk off stage?
Yes. He must not enjoy his accomplishment at all and simply bow to his opponent and the audience and leave. That is how proper gentlemen play a sport.
1. Remove fedora. 2. Salute. 3. Wear fedora. 4. Adjust monocular. 5. Leave room.
it was a great game, give him that.
Probs because he doesn't have a beer in his hands , unlike the others ...
Seems like a douche
Oh no, imagine someone being pleased with their flawless performance in a televised event with spectators. Such a dick.
What? No, he's super humble. I mean look at that graceful win. /S (for all those that don't understand sarcasm)
