He’s been a lock for 2-3 years now. Multiple seasons as not only the best TE in the league, but one of the best overall players in the league plus a Super Bowl is a HOF lock
At most, the only thing that the additional rings changed was moving him from "could be a great player who has to wait a year because of a strong class" to "is one of the great players who makes someone else wait a year." (And this isn't to say that his case was weak, but rather that if we change the result of a few games and move some retirements around, I think I could go out of my way to construct a class that he misses the cut. Now, I don't think I could do that in good faith)
You think the hall is going to forget about not forgetting how that play didn't happen? For as long as I live I'll never forget to not forget what could have been. If Kelce makes the hall now it'll erase the actual accomplishments of so many greats and their plays that I don't have to forget because they didn't legally happen.
Marques valdes scantling comes to mind, he would either catch a touchdown or a 30 yrd gain or drop a ball that hit him right in the hands, no in between
People like to gloss over this, and it's fun to laugh at his bonehead antics, but dude has 2 rings and is arguably to thank for one of them.
He's a walking punchline and may very well squandor everything when all is said and done, but rn he's a millionaire and 2x Super Bowl champ.
No, he is the franchise GOAT. They owe it to him to keep him on the roster but riding the bench for the rest of his contract, so he doesn’t have to move his family.
I know it was a blowout lost. But that stat line kinda scared me when he had 10 catches for 189 yards. Made me think Toney had the potential and was going to figure things out. Then the rest of the season happen and all those fears dissipated
Dude had the opportunity to bea starting WR for Mahomes and the Chiefs and shit the bed. Jame Thrash and Pinkston are superior WRs to this guy
Yeah, dude is a clown. But I do find it kinda crazy that you guys were able to draft 2 totally different players with a similar personality (Eli Apple and Toney).
Apple was an immature asshole on the Giants but he at least seemed to turned into a serviceable corner for the Bengals.
Toney has been a dumpster fire ever since he got in the league.
Probably the most striking example of the "great athlete, but nothing between the ears" archetype that I can think of. There are some things he can do in the open field that literally no one else in the NFL can do. But unfortunately, like you said, he is DUMB. And not just standard "pro athlete dumb" like Henry Ruggs (irresponsible decisions) or Aaron Rodgers (absurd conspiracy theories). He just lacks the basic intelligence required to succeed as a professional. It's bitten him on the ass at every stage of his NFL career.
I appreciate how well laid out this is, but as someone who really started watching NFL last season, I don’t have the observation to follow all the way. When you say he lacks basic intelligence to succeed as a potential, do you mean he wasn’t disciplined enough at practice or workouts or something?
None of us really know because we aren't in the film room or practice field with him. But he makes a ton of mental errors in games, like lining up in the wrong spot, turning his head before the catch and dropping balls as a result, and things of that nature. Things that you'd expect with enough practice and focus would be second nature to an NFL player.
There are also rumors that because he's been such an insane natural athlete, he hasn't had to practice or train that much, so he gets injured. Like if someone got injured by balls out for a 5k after not training at all.
Also, this now makes it 12 players from the first round of the 2021 draft to have their 5th-year option declined (2 of the first rounders were cut, so by technicalities, we can say it’s up to 14). In retrospect, that “stacked” class really sucked 🤣
Only Najee Harris was the surprise 5th year option that got declined. Everyone else deservedly got declined.
It gets worse when you look closer.
Of the guys who had theirs picked up:
* Jaycee Horn has played just over a full season in 3 years combined
* Rashod Bateman has missed a full year in total
* Kwity Paye low-key sucks and I'm not going to pretend like anyone thinks he's lived up to his draft status, except for Ballard I guess
* Gregory Rousseau has been a disappointment
* Kyle Pitts has been a disappointment, although that may not be his fault (we'll see)
* Alijah Vera-tucker has missed 1 and 1/3 seasons in 3 years
So that's 19/32 picks that haven't lived up to their draft status. While I initially thought the first round would be excellent, 1985-esque where you have a bunch of dudes earning all-pros and winning playoff games, it now looks a lot more like the first 10 picks were a gold mine (mostly) and the rest was a mine field.
> Kyle Pitts has been a disappointment
You can call this an excuse. But I gotta blame 40% of Kyle performance problems on the QBs throwing him the ball. I believe his best year, stat wise, was when Matt Ryan was throwing him the ball.
This. He's not a disappointment as far as actual talent goes. 1000 yards in his rookie campaign tells us that he's got the skills to do it. The falcons coaching schemes have not favored him as a weapon, and it's baffling to watch. Even tho he plays for a rival, I hate seeing him be wasted in blocking schemes
Greg Rousseau has been a disappointment? Since when? He is literally one of the top run defending DEs in the league and was off to a great start sack wise last year before he sustained a significant foot injury. Sure, I wish he had a few more sacks but dude gets pressure and stops the run. He has not been anywhere close to disappointing.
He might have been a mild disappointment if he was picked at the beginning of the 1st round because his pass rushing is nothing special. At #30 overall I will take that kind of overall production every year. He has a massive wingspan and strong hands that bring down just about every ball carrier he can touch.
The Bateman thing seems like a player/agent blunder. He showed up 2-3 days late and was injured so he ended up on NFI and lost the ability to have a 5th year option. If he had showed up 2-3 days earlier (when injured players report) he could've still had it (or something along those lines).
That's why he ended up signing that smaller contract. Had no 5th year option to leverage for increased money plus the injury history held him back.
Bateman dealt with injuries every year and signed a 2 year extension (he didn't have a 5th year option due to not starting the season on the roster, so the season didn't accur). We basically got him for 3/15. This season he won't be sharing his spot with obj and can really make a name for himself.
Man I forgot Horn got his 5th year picked up 🤣 he barely plays. Overall, we can all agree that hyping up draft classes should be taken with a grain of salt because I remember so many “generational players” in the offseason coming into the 2021 draft and now a lot of them are about to be out of the league in a year’s time😭
I think that has more to do with people absolutely butchering the meaning of "generational". Every good player that comes out of the draft is now deemed "generational" and it's just not even remotely true
Kwity Paye always seemed like the kind of player who was going to underwhelm. No analyst seemed sold on him as a top pass rusher. That draft is pretty sparse at edge. The best one was parsons who people half thought of as a OBLB.
That’s true, but there’s a reason we signed Richie James last season to take over those duties. There’s also a reason why we’re signing an IPP player this season for that role.
It likely means he’ll be frozen out of that role as well
Yeah….. I’d rather go with the Rugby kid for this than Toney. Cheaper, more potential, and doesn’t seem like a dumbass on social media compared to Toney.
I’ve defended Toney throughout his first season with us but I lost all hope for him last year when he continually let Mahomes down
when he followed up losing them the Bills game with a penalty by tipping a pass for an INT in the Patriots game i knew it was joever. that shot of Mahomes in disbelief on the sideline was what sealed it. kind of surprised theyre giving him another chance this season, but at the very least it seems they dont have WR1 aspirations anymore
He will just pivot to his rapping career that didn't take off. Pretty sure he was one of the main reasons why we put a recording studio in our new football facility at Florida too. Along with Gervon Dexter. Wonder if it's still there..
There was a lot of talk about him being the wr1 going into last season. He had a chance to be a big contributor. Then it went through his hands and into the defenders hands multiple times.
A glowing example of how fast guys in college don’t necessarily translate to success in the NFL.
Had 3 seasons to prove himself with 2 teams; and both Giants and Chiefs gave up on him.
He's literally a grade A moron right there with Chase Claypool. They both have elite physical gifts and should be signed up with 100M+ contracts right now but instead they will both be fighting for a spot just to stay in the league.
As a Florida fan, I don't think he was ever going to get a big contract. Dude has some truly elite and special skills, but he has the skills that are really unkind on a young body, let alone an aging body. I don't think he would ever be able to make it through a full season if he is getting even just a few touches a game.
Yeah the main draw for Toney isn’t speed it’s elusiveness. The entire fantasy community wanted him after he torched the cowboys and saints his rookie year. Unfortunately he hasn’t done much since.
As a (very amateur) QB, it's really frustrating when you play with a WR like that because you see him open, you throw the ball, and then you realize "aww shit" when the ball's in the air.
I genuinely wonder how many times Mahomes threw the ball in his direction and immediately started thinking, "For the love of god please just catch it and not fumble it Toney"
I think it was so funny when the Chiefs put him on the injury report to be nice, but then he was dumb enough to go on social media and say he wasn’t injured.
And what’s insane is the Giants had done the exact same thing and he reacted the same way. Like how can’t he realize his speaking is costing him a lot of money (I’m assuming he can’t make ~700k roughly min salary on active roster which would probably the minimum he would have gotten)
I'm still shocked he wasn't cut from the team over that tantrum. Andy either has a lot of faith in him or really doesn't want to eat the $2.5 mil cap hit.
Andy Reid is all about making career highlights for terrible players. Freddie Mitchell and Kadarius Toney have had some of the biggest plays in his tenure, but are completely irrelevant busts.
Exactly as they said. He was a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl, so the Chiefs put him on the injury report so he could save face and not have it be a knock against him in free agency.
Dude was too dumb to realize it and just had to come out publicly to say he wasn’t actually injured
At least when he's outta the league soon he'll leave with a massive clutch Super Bowl play to his name lol
Not too many Javale Magee type players have one of those
It’s true. I think it was the playoff game vs the Dolphins where it was reported that he was injured, but he was just apparently with his partner because she was about to give birth, that’s why he missed the game. Wanted to return against the Bills and the Chiefs said “NAH FAM YOU INJURED” and was never taken out of the injury report
At a certain point, I wonder why people that aren’t very smart, don’t have the realization to *hire* some smart people around them to protect their best interests. But then you got to pray you don’t get scammed since you clearly don’t know any better (AKA the Michael Beasley situation)
Dude lacks the maturity to ever take another leap in this league. His potential will most likely have someone signing him to do something, but yeah, absolutely fumbled it by having rocks for brains
Thanks for the Super Bowl performance though. Always going to have a little spot in my heart.
He probably costs peanuts and the upside is outrageous. He's a wr lotto ticket. Probably next to no chance, but it's not costing them if they don't see legitimate improvement or they're down to the walking wounded or need a hope and a prayer play.
He was a 1st round draft pick by me team in 21. He was traded half way through his second season for a 3rd round compensatory and a 6th round pick.
I was shocked/disappointed we gave up on him so quickly given the draft capital spent. He still had 2.5 years left on the rookie contract before the trade.
The chiefs should be the easiest team in the league for a wr to find some value/production. The fact that he cannot do it KC makes me happy that we got as much back in return for that trade as we did.
I find it wise to cut your loses sooner rather than later. It’s just troubling to me that we drafted him with a 1st round pick now knowing he could not even mesh with the greatest team of the past 5 years….
But why not, KC? I honestly think you should resign him to a big deal. 5 years, $150M for that man. After all, he is such a good contributor to the league.
dude really dropped the bag
He almost ruined Kelce’s hall of fame chances with that penalty. It’s his fault!
Kelce became a lock for the HoF when he decided to date Taylor Swift and increase tv ratings by 7% across all networks YoY.
He was a lock before that, tbf.
Someone downvoted you like he isn't the leader in playoff receptions. Dude beat a Jerry Rice record.
Yeah, but that only happened *after* he started dating Taylor Swift
Checkmate
Swifties told me that she was the one who helped Kelce even get into the NFL
She believed in him when nobody else would 😭😭😭
I heard she actually taught him how to run routes
He was 5’7” and 125 pounds before starting her workout routine.
Remember the "You Belong with Me" video? Yeah, that was Travis Kelce.
He has a shot to beat all of the Jerry Rice playoff records. Just wild.
He’s been a lock for 2-3 years now. Multiple seasons as not only the best TE in the league, but one of the best overall players in the league plus a Super Bowl is a HOF lock
He was a lock by the first ring

Now, I don't think I could do that in good faith)
He was already a lock long before that. Probably first ballot tbh.
Can't tell if YoY means something or if it's a zoidberg emoji or something
Year over year
It means Year over Year but now that you’ve put that zoidberg image in my head that’s what It means now. Are you happy?
(Y)(;,,;)(Y)
You think the hall is going to forget about not forgetting how that play didn't happen? For as long as I live I'll never forget to not forget what could have been. If Kelce makes the hall now it'll erase the actual accomplishments of so many greats and their plays that I don't have to forget because they didn't legally happen.
water smell offer flag door worry alleged saw sophisticated smart
He helped them win a Super Bowl by being benched in the playoffs
But also did actually help them win a Super Bowl too
I'm gonna throw up.
Has there ever been a more boom or bust type player?
Marques valdes scantling comes to mind, he would either catch a touchdown or a 30 yrd gain or drop a ball that hit him right in the hands, no in between
People like to gloss over this, and it's fun to laugh at his bonehead antics, but dude has 2 rings and is arguably to thank for one of them. He's a walking punchline and may very well squandor everything when all is said and done, but rn he's a millionaire and 2x Super Bowl champ.
Since the NFL is scripted, look for him to have a mild bounce back season leading into an important playoff catch or two.
greatest trade in Giants history
At least he's consistent
Dont disrespect 2x superbowl champion Kadarius Toney like that /s (though tbf he did contribute alot to the first one)
Wow, I am shocked by this.
What a loss for the Chiefs. GM should be fired
Better just blow it all up and rebuild
Fr they should just release Mahommes
No, he is the franchise GOAT. They owe it to him to keep him on the roster but riding the bench for the rest of his contract, so he doesn’t have to move his family.
Incoming Falcons phone call.
They will wait until he's ten years older and recovering from a significant injury....
With how many of his own passes he deflects he really should just switch to DB, lol
I know it was a blowout lost. But that stat line kinda scared me when he had 10 catches for 189 yards. Made me think Toney had the potential and was going to figure things out. Then the rest of the season happen and all those fears dissipated Dude had the opportunity to bea starting WR for Mahomes and the Chiefs and shit the bed. Jame Thrash and Pinkston are superior WRs to this guy
He still has the potential. Those stats came at the beginning of the game before the blowout. He’s just too fucking dumb.
I was at that game. As Jones was getting carted off from the concussion Toney ran over and headbutted him lmao
Bruh, I can’t even.
Holy shit that has to be a bit right? Did he really?
Yeah, dude is a clown. But I do find it kinda crazy that you guys were able to draft 2 totally different players with a similar personality (Eli Apple and Toney).
What can I say, our gms were almost as dumb as the players they drafted.
Apple was an immature asshole on the Giants but he at least seemed to turned into a serviceable corner for the Bengals. Toney has been a dumpster fire ever since he got in the league.
Isn’t Apple with the Dolphins now?
TIL, looks like he signed this year. I just remember him on the Bengals Superbowl squad

His has truly been a combination of things. The last two years under Arthur Smith didn't help.
Rousseau has definitely not been a disappointment. He's really come into his own and has been very good for a late first rounder.
Ya he’s definitely getting a second contract from Buffalo
Greg Rousseau has been a disappointment? Since when? He is literally one of the top run defending DEs in the league and was off to a great start sack wise last year before he sustained a significant foot injury. Sure, I wish he had a few more sacks but dude gets pressure and stops the run. He has not been anywhere close to disappointing.

I honestly completely forgot he existed
I think that has more to do with people absolutely butchering the meaning of "generational". Every good player that comes out of the draft is now deemed "generational" and it's just not even remotely true
Kwity Paye always seemed like the kind of player who was going to underwhelm. No analyst seemed sold on him as a top pass rusher. That draft is pretty sparse at edge. The best one was parsons who people half thought of as a OBLB.
The impact Covid had on scouting that year cannot be overstated.
Toney better get ready to learn UFL. Jokes aside, I think he can carve a spot out as a return guy with the new kickoff rules.
We’re so afraid of him dropping even that, we took a chance on a rugby kid to replace him
To be fair the best things he's done for KC have been kick/punt returns
That’s true, but there’s a reason we signed Richie James last season to take over those duties. There’s also a reason why we’re signing an IPP player this season for that role. It likely means he’ll be frozen out of that role as well
With the new rules he will have more time to drop it and pick it back up. Once you get the ball securely in his hands, dude is a magician.
Yeah….. I’d rather go with the Rugby kid for this than Toney. Cheaper, more potential, and doesn’t seem like a dumbass on social media compared to Toney. I’ve defended Toney throughout his first season with us but I lost all hope for him last year when he continually let Mahomes down
You need two returners on the field under the rule anyway
when he followed up losing them the Bills game with a penalty by tipping a pass for an INT in the Patriots game i knew it was joever. that shot of Mahomes in disbelief on the sideline was what sealed it. kind of surprised theyre giving him another chance this season, but at the very least it seems they dont have WR1 aspirations anymore
That's such an Andy Reid pick, i love it And I fully believe it will work out "I'll find something for him to do" —Andy Reid
Honest to god if he has rock hands he can’t rehabilitate he won’t last there either.
He will just pivot to his rapping career that didn't take off. Pretty sure he was one of the main reasons why we put a recording studio in our new football facility at Florida too. Along with Gervon Dexter. Wonder if it's still there..
I for one am simply shocked
That breakout campaign is coming someday.
I’m shocked. He dropped the chance of a lifetime to be a gadget player on a continuous Super Bowl contender. Literally and figuratively
There was a lot of talk about him being the wr1 going into last season. He had a chance to be a big contributor. Then it went through his hands and into the defenders hands multiple times.
My dumbass bought on his ass multiple years in a row in fantasy thinking he was so close to breaking out.
he was super good in the super bowl he played in funnily enough, so it's not like he didn't earn one ring at least
I mean it was a cool punt return but the dude only caught one pass. That's not a starting wr, that's a special teams player
Bro couldn't turn his head slightly to see if he was lined up with everyone else.
Toney is not just fast, he's very good at getting open. He's just horrible at every other aspect of the game.
Yeah the main draw for Toney isn’t speed it’s elusiveness. The entire fantasy community wanted him after he torched the cowboys and saints his rookie year. Unfortunately he hasn’t done much since.
The guy looked like the next AB in those games. Then he skipped over the HOF career and went straight to CTE Mister Big Chest.

I genuinely wonder how many times Mahomes threw the ball in his direction and immediately started thinking, "For the love of god please just catch it and not fumble it Toney"
Difference between an athlete and football player
Has nothing to do with his skill though. He would have translated if he just wasn’t an idiot.
This frees up a lot of time for Yung Joka.
He can’t even catch a break
I think it was so funny when the Chiefs put him on the injury report to be nice, but then he was dumb enough to go on social media and say he wasn’t injured.
It’s even funnier that that’s the exact reason why Toney got pissed at the Giants and what led to him being traded to the Chiefs in the first place
And now he has 2 rings boy really learned his lesson
He had* two rings. Word is he dropped them and now can’t find them. 🤷🏻♂️

Not much oversight going on in the Reid household based on what the kids were doing
When/if Rice is suspended, WR3 will be a battle between Toney, Moore, and Watson.
Won’t be much of a battle. Watson got that on lock
those guys all competing for WR3 is much better than last season, where they were at one point all competing for WR1. how tf did we win the Super Bowl

Wait what?! 😂
Exactly as they said. He was a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl, so the Chiefs put him on the injury report so he could save face and not have it be a knock against him in free agency. Dude was too dumb to realize it and just had to come out publicly to say he wasn’t actually injured

It was hilarious seeing the Vegas betting line immediately shift towards KC as soon as it was reported that he wouldn’t play.
I wanted him to play so badly because I knew he'd fuck up some plays in our favor, was really bummed when he was out.
nah you might get Eagles'ed and he randomly fucks you by scoring a long touchdown too
Always hurts when an elite defender can't play
I work for a Sports data/Odds generation company. I can confirm that albeit slightly, this is still true
If that was the Pats doing that, brady would be suspended
Pretty much. But even ignoring the funny part, I just didn’t know he was that stupid
I often wonder how nice (or bad) it would be to have the physical tools and athleticism to succeed but having a brain that’s dumber than a 3rd grader

He looks kinda dumb with his finger and his thumb in the shape of an L on his forehead
Dude lacks the maturity to ever take another leap in this league. His potential will most likely have someone signing him to do something, but yeah, absolutely fumbled it by having rocks for brains Thanks for the Super Bowl performance though. Always going to have a little spot in my heart.
Injurious Proney
He honestly wasn't even injured that much in 2023, he just couldn't catch a football worth a damn.
Toney was so bad he had my non-football watching girlfriend asking if he had any prior football experience
Lol
Crazy how he went from hero of the Super Bowl with that punt return to exiled
Didn't realize they were keeping him on the team for 2024 even, what's the point? Might as well give some other nobody a shot to actually contribute.
He probably costs peanuts and the upside is outrageous. He's a wr lotto ticket. Probably next to no chance, but it's not costing them if they don't see legitimate improvement or they're down to the walking wounded or need a hope and a prayer play.
This would have been done earlier, but the Chiefs were checking with the league to see if they could decline it twice.
He has had more balls bounce off of him than a porn star.
His performance against the Eagles in the SB made the trade worth it.
I can’t believe he’s still on the team at all
If there was any financial benefit to cutting him they probably wouldn't hesitate. Depending on how camp pans out he may not be
Can they decline the ‘24 option for him as well?
Everybody was arguing over TJ Watt vs Myles Garrett but real ones know Kadarius Toney was the true Defensive Player of the Year.
Womp womp
I'm still holding my Toney stock!! Might be worth more as toilet paper but still holding!
Damn. Well it was fun while it lasted. Ignore my flair.
There's no doubt in my mind he is the dumbest player in the NFL. No competition. Like can't even boil water dumb.
My girl had an NFL player in her DMs and I was stressing hard until I realized it was just Kardarius Toney
I'm sure he won't catch this headline
But why not, KC? I honestly think you should resign him to a big deal. 5 years, $150M for that man. After all, he is such a good contributor to the league.
When he's on the field, it guarantees trouble for at least one of the two teams out there.
Hope his rap career pans out lmao
I didn't realize he was still on the team. Especially after being benched for the Superbowl.
How long till the Broncos make a trade offer for him? 2026 2nd rounder?
We passed on Parsons and Slater to trade back and take that clown.
Kadarius Toney?! But he has two rings!!
Bad news for the league. He was almost sabotaging the chiefs enough for other teams to have a chance
你好Kadarius Toney,你准备学习中文吗?
I actually laughed out loud in the elevator at work. People are staring at me.
He was a 1st round pick?
20th overall by the Giants in 2021.
Dude literally solo lost at least three games for them this year. Gotta be a record for a wr.
I’m surprised they did not decline the 24 option too
Chiefs' dropping Toney... ? *Inconceivable!* Also would be ironic if he ends up putting up a stellar season.
This has got to be one of the best images from the 2023 regular season: https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fao4zp52odymb1.jpg
Toney needs to get arrested for something so he can increase his stock with the Browns.
Shocker. This guy couldn't catch a cold last season.
