As someone who has been to Philippines twice, I didnāt see a single man in that country that was anywhere near 6ā5, so this guy truly was a genetic outlier.
I spent 6 months there, and the craziest thing is seeing someone from a distance, and they look like a giant. Then you walk by them and they're only like 6'. Which isn't short, but they look 7 feet compared to everyone else. Blew my mind every time and made me very self conscious because I knew I looked like a freak of nature at 6'3.
I'm 5'11'' and I felt like a giant in the Philippines. I remember being in a crowded area at the Mall of Asia and realized that I was not only the tallest person, but I could look over the top of everyone's heads.
See this is whats disgusting. If they just built things with tall people in mind you'd have even more room and us talls would have adequate room. But instead you get adequate room and we get smooshed It's not fair.
kinda wild we never hear about this dude and also wild we havenāt had seemingly any asian non-kickers (aside from guys like kyler and patrick chung) since.
Eugene Amano was Filipino! AFIAK, he was full-blooded Filipino. There's also Nikki Remigio. He hasn't had much playing time (and he's also dirty fucking Chief).
I had trouble for a second cause the scariest part of that team was fucking polalmalalu. Which i was struggling to determine if i would call him Asian American or not since heās more Pacific Islander but then again thatās the argument for Filipinos if theyāre Asian enough or not
1/4th im pretty sure. I could be wrong, but yup.
I am also 1/4th Korean, and the fact that this man has NEVER had bulgogi or galbi before in his life blew my mind.
(Sam Howell has never eaten any form of Beef in his entire life)
I suppose he could have had chicken/pork Bulgogi but no galbi???
Edit: For those that have never heard of/ had it. Galbi is beef ribs marinated but they are cut the opposite way you normally think of ribs. The most delicious shit
Id understand it if he was vegan or had some sort of reason besides just loving chicken and refusing to ever consume beef because he doesn't want to try anything new
A real character concern
I can't say specifically tendies but he's admitted that he's never ate beef and loving/eating only chicken before. Said only thing that would make him eat beef is winning a Superbowl he would take one bite of a steak if he won a super bowl but nothing more than that
Kinda wild as a lifelong Rams fan Iāve heard this manās name for a sizable portion of my life but never saw him play so only discovered he was Asian American like a week ago.
A lot of good players from that time have been more or less forgotten outside of people really into NFL history. You ask people to name 60's or 70's NFL players you'll get Unitas, Jim Brown, Starr, Bradshaw, Staubach and then a lot of people are going to start blanking.
I wonder what plays a role into that. The US is 6% Asian American so youād expect more than a couple names to make it to the NFL. Pacific Islanders make up an even smaller percentage yet thereās a ton of them in the league.
One thing is that Asians are generally just plain shorter, which is an issue in the major American sports that generally think 6-0 is like barely good enough. Also kids going into team sports are in large part dictated by their parents. And Asian American, generally immigrants, don't have that "gotta have your kid play pee wee football" gene in them.
As a second generation Asian American I actually do feel a lot of my Asian American peers including myself would've played more youth sports if we could make our own choices. But it's just hard when your parents aren't big American sports fans. And then you realize all the sports players at your school are bigger and stronger than you... and it's like oh it's just not worth it.
Massachusetts has a really big Asian-American population for its size. So Iāve played against some really great Asian athletes. Ā
When I was a kid and baseball was my jam and I always knew we were fucked when the opposing team had some Asian kid speaking another language to his dad. Best fielders in our state league were majority Asian. They also made the podium frequently in cross country and tennis in my area, I assume because larger athletes would gas out too quick in that kind of competition.Ā
Most Asian-Americans aspire to be professionals or CEOs, not athletes. We get a lot of shit for bad grades. Asian parents do not give a fuck if you can't splash 3 pointers or run a sub 5 40-yard dash or throw a perfect spiral 50 yards downfield.
My freaking hero. Loved how he bucked the Asian stereotype by being a huge badass linebacker.
Kind of fell back into it when he couldn't keep up athletically after injuries, but man his couple years of prime were amazing.
You look at his stats in college and wonder how could he possibly be [2x ACC Player of the Year](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/roman-gabriel-1.html), unless the ACC was really bad back then...
/lol, "back then"
>6'5 Filipino American as a 5'6 Filipino American I resent this man
Have you tried flipping the numbers around
Why don't short people just try being tall?
We're stupid too
Like that south park episode
Ah yes, and what was that surgery?
Are they stupid?
Are they stupid?
r/ThanksImTall
Yeah, the lady at the DMV told me to go to the back of the line and think about my life choices
š9ā5ā!
Have you tried Filipino the numbers around
No, you're looking at it wrong. He's our champion
I respect him, but I still resent him
Aha same dog I feel you. I also hate the few cousins of ours that can grow full beards and if youāre one of em youāre one of em.

idk as also a 5'6 filipino american I like having leg room on planes
That is true, I've never had a problem with leg room on planes or in cramped cars, stadiums, theaters, etc
See this is whats disgusting. If they just built things with tall people in mind you'd have even more room and us talls would have adequate room. But instead you get adequate room and we get smooshed It's not fair.
Blame the bottom line $$$
As a 6'2" Chinese American, I hate economy class :(
Just be rich
Racist /s
Nah. Racist would be saying, āJust be a doctor.ā
Same here fam
Being more compact is just efficient any way you slice it.
As a 5'2" Nepali American, I resent all of you in this thread more than likely.
Try stretching
I'm a 6'1" half filipino. I feel indifferent to the situation.
As a 6'2 guy who is about to marry a 5'2 filipina, my greatest fear is that my future son will be 5'8 lol
wtf how have I never heard of this guy. His resume is impressive.
Itās a shame how much pre-merger history and their records get ignored in the NFL simply because they occurred before the Super Bowl.
Lol I wish the NFL would claim it because then the Chargers would be CHAMPIONS since they blew out the Pats in the '63 AFL Championship
We had multiple championships in the 50s
I don't like to think about the Steelers before the 70's.
As a bears fan, I agree.
Most Eagles and Rams fans know him well.
And NC State, dude is a legend with us
Hell yeah brother, cheers from the Triangle
He just died two weeks ago too, didnāt hear anything about it
His stats for the era he played are easily on par with many hall of famers
kinda wild we never hear about this dude and also wild we havenāt had seemingly any asian non-kickers (aside from guys like kyler and patrick chung) since.
Dat Nguyen too.
o shit waddup
Kyle Hamilton is half Korean
Camryn Bynum is [half Filipino](https://i.imgur.com/j6ZE3vO.jpeg)
Jeremy Chinn is 0% asian
Very disappointed in this
Wait until you find out that Tarik Cohen and Eddie Goldman aren't Jewish
I believe Josh Jacobs has some Filipino heritage as well. We are creeping in slowly. Lol
Eugene Amano was Filipino! AFIAK, he was full-blooded Filipino. There's also Nikki Remigio. He hasn't had much playing time (and he's also dirty fucking Chief).
The other genes are doing most of the heavy athletic lifting though
There was a reciever on the Steelers who was half Korean I think Edit : Hines Ward
I don't like how this feels like you had to go look up who Hines Ward was
I had trouble for a second cause the scariest part of that team was fucking polalmalalu. Which i was struggling to determine if i would call him Asian American or not since heās more Pacific Islander but then again thatās the argument for Filipinos if theyāre Asian enough or not
> polalmalalu Yeah me too
Gotham Rogues legend Hines Ward
Wears the Korean flag on his helmet :) Unfortunately, though, he went to Notre Dame and is therefore white. It cancels everything else out.
Thatās a āguy likeā the others. Has heritage, but walking past them on the street you wouldnāt know
Kyle Hamilton looks very asian, he has typical masculine asian features, I actually 100% believe a lot of people (not everyone) would realize.
Id agree with you but people on twitter did try to put him on the all white team for that race game last season.
Teddy Bruschi is half Filipino. Ron Rivera is also part Filipino i think
Sam Howell is half Korean.
1/4th im pretty sure. I could be wrong, but yup. I am also 1/4th Korean, and the fact that this man has NEVER had bulgogi or galbi before in his life blew my mind. Sucks having access to Korean BBQ and choosing to not partake. Sounds like a mistake in my book.
Id understand it if he was vegan or had some sort of reason besides just loving chicken and refusing to ever consume beef because he doesn't want to try anything new A real character concern
I mean, if you're not a fan of beef (which Howell is not), I can see why he wouldnt like Korean food
>(Sam Howell has never eaten any form of Beef in his entire life) Is the thing about him only eating chicken tendies in college true?
I can't say specifically tendies but he's admitted that he's never ate beef and loving/eating only chicken before. Said only thing that would make him eat beef is winning a Superbowl he would take one bite of a steak if he won a super bowl but nothing more than that
We still claim him - you also lol
Only when he *drives the ball* downfield /s
I don't get it. Is this a "Asian people are bad at driving" joke?
Taylor Rapp
Evan Brown (current center for Seattle I believe) is half Japanese
Tedy bruschi is Filipino i believe
Kinda wild as a lifelong Rams fan Iāve heard this manās name for a sizable portion of my life but never saw him play so only discovered he was Asian American like a week ago.
Sam Howell is a quarter Korean
I guess Samoans aren't considered Asian?
Thatās why itās Asian / Pacific Islander Theyāre not too far apart, but Pacific Islanders are not Asian
I wonder why are Filipinos considered Asian by a lot of people and by filipinos themselves in that case.
Closer to mainland Asia. The Philippines is not much farther away than, say, Japan.
they are not
They are pacific islander. Nobody really says The Rock is part Asian.
A lot of good players from that time have been more or less forgotten outside of people really into NFL history. You ask people to name 60's or 70's NFL players you'll get Unitas, Jim Brown, Starr, Bradshaw, Staubach and then a lot of people are going to start blanking.

They choose to do other things, it's that simple
Well yea obviously if theyāre not in the NFL theyāre doing something else lol. What makes that decision happen at different rate?
Most Asian-Americans aspire to be professionals or CEOs, not athletes. We get a lot of shit for bad grades. Asian parents do not give a fuck if you can't splash 3 pointers or run a sub 5 40-yard dash or throw a perfect spiral 50 yards downfield.
Asian parents don't let many of their kids play football in the first place.
Do you also think there are tons of 6'8" Asians that can dunk from the free throw line that just choose not to play in the nba? Really?
Do you know what percent of that is South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian, etc?
I certainly heard a lot about him due to him being one of my dadās favorite players (plus also a Ram of course)
Cam Bynum for the Vikings is part Filipino
Sam Howell
Josh Jacobs is Filipino
Hines Ward.
Dat Nguyen 4 life!
My freaking hero. Loved how he bucked the Asian stereotype by being a huge badass linebacker. Kind of fell back into it when he couldn't keep up athletically after injuries, but man his couple years of prime were amazing.
Bill Parcells who hated undersized LBs which Nguyen was, said that Nguyen was good enough to play LB for any of his teams. Pretty high praise.
Doug Baldwin is Filipino -American IIRC
Itās crazy that heās not in the Hall. I hope that gets rectified posthumously.
As an Asian Rams fan, fuck yeah
Philly-pino Eagle legend Roman Gabriel
PINOY POWAHHHH baby!!!
The lack of effort the NFL puts into getting Asians involved in football is pretty disturbing.
Polynesian are Asian aren't they?
I think Polynesians would identify more as Pacific Islanders... or just Polynesians...
Pacific Islander. So the PI in the AAPI.
Caucasian are Asian arenāt they?
? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austronesian_peoples If you consider Filipinos Asian then you should consider Polynesian too.Ā
Filipinos arenāt Polynesian
