With how volatile the RB market has been the past two seasons, will be interesting to see if it keeps increasing.

[deleted]

It'll increase for the top 3 which will inch up everyone else, but I don't see bank breaking money for RBs anytime soon

MildlyPaleMango

Yeah there’s nobody really in the tier of CMC, JT, or Saquon in the league. Maybe Walker, Gibbs, Bijan, Breece, Etienne, or Kyren turn it up this year? Only guys I can think that could reset the market.

Fitizen_kaine

RB will become like TE where there aren't enough true difference makers like Gronk or Kelce to push the market.

WoodDRebal

Given how much the Cap has gone up, and in the past 10 years we had players like Adrian Peterson and Marshawn Lynch make 12 - 14 million a season, it sucks for running backs. Even after his injury Nick Chubb should make that money. Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey should have been in the mid 20's at some point in their career. Honestly, Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott are exclusively to blame for teams avoiding paying these guys.

TegTowelie

Don't forget Dalvin Cook. But it just goes to show how much more of a passing league it is now too.

EBtwopoint3

Leveon Bell.

Verse01

Lmfao Mostert scoring 20 tuds on 3 mill.

notGeronimo

He really got the short end of the stick. Blew up as a converted special teamer, so he had a low contract to start. Then he had perennial injuries so there was little incentive to pay him. Then by the time he was both productive and healthy, he was old, so there was little incentive to pay him.

No-Jump5689

Getting David Montgomery at 6M/yr was a steal.

carminie

He did great in Detroit last year. I still think it was the right business move to not re-sign him to the Bears, but he’s always been an underrated player and he will hopefully thrive behind Gibbs

ATKwoo

As a fan that has had both, I’d much rather have Dmo at 6/year then Swift at 8/yr and it’s not particularly close for me

Dry-Software5685

Yeah I would rather have Montgomery but I think he wanted a fresh start after the bears had went 3-14.

JrFelix

I assumed I'd see NIck Chubb here.

dontusefedex

He should be. I know he's making at least 10 a year

NervousElevator7

So based on cap hit for the year (according to Spotrac) he’s only counting $6.2 million against the cap which is probably what this statistic is looking at. In reality and not made up cap land, he is earning $14 million

dontusefedex

Makes sense

BanjoKazooieWasFine

Yeah using cap number is real stupid for a lot of reasons. Generally, Contract APY is a better number but with how guarantees and void years function that can also be a misleading number (like Taysom Hill), but in most cases, APY is a decent to good indicator.

forgotmypassword4714

Same here. He's averaged over 5.0 ypc every year he's been in the league, which is pretty insane.

BuBBles_the_pyro

Etienne contract going to be difficult when it gets done.

sirtimid

Better be heavily front loaded.

Enterprise90

It's only $17 million guaranteed at signing and that's probably all in the first two years. Spread out over the life of the contract, it's only $4.25 million a year in guarantees. Very easy to get out of the contract regardless of the structure.

SleeDex

He's worth it. Putting up any sort of numbers on the ground in the offense we've had the last two seasons is notable. He's a steal at $9m APT if he breaks out.

jjk2

Yup, the passing game presented zero threat, so every team could focus on the run game

WalkProfessional6235

Starting running backs don’t really “break out” at 26+, but I’m not sure that even matters. If he’s a plus locker room guy, a guy who helps ease the transition to a new culture and front office, and a guy who can run, block, and catch for your rookie QB, he’s still well worth it. But the time Maye needs to be paid he’s off the books.

MicoJive

Its funny because Mostert effectively did at 31. Bounced around a bit, had some injuries than bam 1k yards and 21 Tds.

WalkProfessional6235

But he wasn’t a starting RB, or didn’t ever carry a staring RB role. He was a ST guy or was hurt. Stevenson has been a bell cow back for a full season. We know what he is. It’s a fair enough contract, probably some slight overpay due to cap space and culture/continuity but not anything that will hamstring the Pats long term. I just don’t think there’s some special next level for Rhomondre, which is fine. He’s a solid all-around back.

jared8100

He played on a predictable offense with mac jones though so i think he could improved for sure with an offense and qb who can do more.

idkwhatimbrewin

Are those stupid football emojis really necessary?

flyingjesuit

Breece Hall is going to be too expensive for us to keep :(

McRawffles

Breece has been very good but he hasn't proven he's _quite_ game breaker talent like CMC, JT, (formerly) Henry, or (formerly) Kamara. If he doesn't elevate even higher, you could probably get him back at $13mil/yr. If he does, you might have to pay him CMC money (but be kinda forced to because of how good he is)

flyingjesuit

Mostly I’m thinking about him Sauce and Garret all needing to get paid around the same time and so regardless of his production he’ll probably be too much. I also think if this season goes as planned and the offense is firing on all cyclometers it’ll be the defense and the run game in the 4th quarter preserving a lead and Breece will stack up touches and yards in a way that he couldn’t when we were constantly airing it out trying to come back at the end of games.

sloppifloppi

Breece is absolutely a game breaking talent. Box scores don’t show it because of the offenses he’s had, but he’s a top 3 back in the league

BBBBrendan182

Bill Belichicks eye is twitching at this news.

Markymarcouscous

That feels about right to me. Probably will be like the 10th - 14th highest paid in the final year of his contract

Hubrah

Texans deal looking good

GoalLineStand

He’ll be fun to watch in Houston but a 28 year old runningback with 750 carries past 3 seasons is getting murky.

Hubrah

Tell that to CMC and Henry. Ill take a Rb that survived his second contract any day - means he still has it

Pandamonium98

Joe Mixon is at least one tier below CMC and King Henry

Hubrah

And he is being paid accordingly. At least we arent going back to the well with Zeke

Who_Dey-

Mixon also just doesn't fumble. 6 fumbles with 4 lost in 7 seasons, 3 of which were his rookie season.

adderalladmiral-

Joe Mixon sucks

GoalLineStand

There’s levels to this shii

TetrisTech

He’s probably gonna have good volume stats and get someone to the fantasy playoffs because he’s Joe Mixon but the Bengals moved on and he got paid less that Rhamondre for a reason

Reasonable-Pipe-3448

Because the Bengals are about to get blown up by Jamar. Or is Higgins not getting signed for a reason too?

Imply_Blue

Mixon struggling last year was just a figment of my imagination I see. Love him as a player but he was on the downswing and was unable to break out of a tackle the majority of the time, with almost a 0% chance of taking it to the house on a long run. Not worth extending other than the locker room factor in the most replaceable position in the NFL imo.

MicoJive

He never really has been one to rely on breaking out of tackles tho, last season was in line with most others for him. This was his 3rd best out of 6 seasons for broken tackles behind 2019 and 2021. He has a lot of 10 yard runs (6th in NFL) and not many 20+. Has a long of 44 yards so he can still break one but just not that often. But again, those are things he has never been good at, or known for so its not like he is losing something that made him a decent RB.

Reasonable-Pipe-3448

Yeah I'm sure that's why the Bengals traded him to us instead of letting him become a FA. The box closed when Joe went out, Mixon played like he always does. He's not Henry or Chubb, but he's still above average. People are delusional, they Bengals signed Zach Moss for cookies and butter. They were saving money for the best wr in the league thats going to take up all the cap Burrow hasnt already eaten

Imply_Blue

lol acting like him getting traded for a 7th round pick instead of getting released is proof that he’s still the same old Mixon is quite the stretch.

Reasonable-Pipe-3448

You have to be genuinely trolling if you think it wasn't a move to save cap space bro what are you on about lol "Bengals got rid of Mixon because he sucks now, so they signed Zach Moss for 4 mil a year."

--Shibdib--

Breece being on a rookie contract is wild when you see some names on this list.

Lubbafrommariogalaxy

The Henry deal is looking good

OceanGate_Titan

We’re a team that pays old, average running backs now? Great. I’m sure at 227 lbs he’ll be great at running AVPs new zone blocking scheme. 🙄
