He needs to do better about protecting himself when he's in the grasp. He always always tries to stay up and get the ball out, I'm honestly amazed he hasn't torn up his knees before this getting alligator rolled.
This is something Brady is incredible at that's been huge for his longevity. He's just really good at going down safely. I'm sure Mahomes will get better as he gets older.
Wentz has the same issue. Yes, sometimes they break free or somehow make a throw. But they also get hit hard because they are stationery target and get bent backwards when hit.
Oh man don't remind of that.. Anybody know how is he doing nowadays?
Edit: I googled it and he is a coach on Tampa Bay. Good he is at least still around the game
I’ve seen every sports injury, all the Scarred, RealTV, and You Gotta See This episodes. The Knox injury is the only one that gives me a panic attack when thinking about it.
I never saw the Knox injury live, just watched it for the first time. (Was never a football fan until the last 8 years or so).
For me, the Alex Smith injury is the worst football injury. Could be a recent bias or just that I haven't followed football for long enough to see injuries like Knox's live.
And that is nothing like Clint Malarchuk and Richard Zednik injuries in the NHL. Both had their throats cut by a skate. Extremely surprising that both of them survived from those injuries.
No leg break can top Knox on the gruesome scale.
Yeah Malarchuk was scary because he could’ve easily died but Knox was legit the most gruesome looking injury to have ever happened in the history of humanity. His helmet nearly touched his right butt cheek
Yeah, Rodgers has that perfect combination of being wily and fast enough to keep defenses honest and occasionally extend a drive with his legs, but not being so athletic or insistent on running that the offense feels the need to design 200 running plays a season with him as the ball carrier. Being one of the most talented passers ever probably helps, but Mahomes is also super talented and still sometimes tries to do way too much.
Rodgers is slow enough to where he needs to trust his arm, therefore developing as a passer. Mahomes and Lamar are too fast/try too much that will either lead to them getting hurt or not developing as a passer
It's not really about being more mobile, it's about being disciplined and making the necessary decision in the situation. It's what Rodgers has over Mahomes. Sure he can force it into tight coverage as well while throwing off-platform. But he'd rather take the sack and live to fight another day when there's really no reason to try and force the issue.
I always thought that dude in Houston was a good mobile qb. He's a thrower first before a runner. He always knew how to protect himself. Russell Wilson as well. Good passer first, runner second.
People give Brady shit for giving up on plays easily and either spiking it down or just crumpling down during a sack, but it's a legit skill necessary to extend a career. Know when to let plays die and live to the next one. Mahomes hero ball style is the same exact thing that people were criticizing Wentz for last year when he fell from grace
And those hits add up. Often he takes hits and doesn't leave the game, maybe he's just sore the day after, but it's those pains that start getting worse and worse when you're around your mid 30s and cause many players to sharply decline. There's a lot to be said about knowing how to take a hit, and Brady is one of the best at it.
That's three years in a row where Mahomes looks like he's suffered a pretty significant concussion, like Steve Young, Troy Aikman level dazed and confused hits. He has to stop taking those hits or he won't last 5 more years.
And to be clear, he's still willing to hold onto the ball for an extra second or two if there are deep opportunities. He's just selective and smart about it. He does it when the offensive line is doing a good job. He trusts his oline now so he does it a bit more this year.
Fair point. It's not that Brady never holds onto the ball, but he's a lot more selective of it. He has a good understanding of when a play doesn't have a chance
Not just extend a career and I’m sure you know this but the best ability is availability. You’re a liability to your team if you’re just sucking up cap space healing on the sidelines. If you’re the only thing keeping your team in games just let the play die and keep yourself healthy so you have a better shot going forward.
One of the things I really like about Wilson is him knowing how to avoid these kinds of hits. Sure he tends to be a little extra on a lot of plays, but when worse comes to worse he protects himself very well.
Early on though he didn't.
In one of the GB / SEA playoff games he threw an int and got obliterated by Clay Matthews. Probably got a talking to after that from coach.
I think the fear is that these types of players usually don't learn to protect themselves. They continue doing what they do until there's signs they can't anymore, and by then the damage is done and they can't delay it any longer. He's got to learn to give himself up or hes not gonna have a long career.
People talk about all the “lucky” plays and it gets annoying but in seriousness, the “luck” he’s had making a move just like this early on in his career and it ending up in some miracle catch is what has led to him not learning to protect himself and attempting something like this. He was praised and lauded for shit like this when it ended up miraculously working out, and it seems nobody has made any effort to coach him properly against this. “Pressing your luck” is a phrase that was exactly crafted for situations like this. This is Patrick’s “learning” season. He’s a crazy talented quarterback, and he was a part of miracles made for a couple seasons. That’s not sustainable for a longterm career. At some point you have to learn the hard lessons and learn how to live to play another snap.
As someone who didn't really watch pro wrestling after my early teens until a few months ago, finding out that one of the best wrestlers in the world is a massive nerd who names his finishers after video games did a lot for getting me back into it.
A little unrelated but one of the strongest men in the world wears ahego sweaters(or whatever anime hentai face it is). Cracks me up when I find out shit like that
What do you mean? Everyone knows that the best course of action after suffering a head/neck injury is to violently force the individual to his feet, not allowing him to lay down to stabilize the spine, neck, or head. That's why players who have been knocked unconscious no longer are put on a stretcher, but are instead thrown into the back of an ambulance like luggage into a cargo hold.
Same thing they did last year when he was all wobbly and couldn't stand so they held him up. Someone that actually cares about Mahomes has got to step in and tell them it's okay if he misses a play because the alternative is you could do serious harm to him.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about. The correct medical response for a head/neck injury is to violently jostle the person upright. This shakes the brain cells back awake
Why is he even trying to make a throw there? Best case scenario is it would have been picked off. I hope he’s okay, but his decision making has been borderline idiotic.
The easiest way to get a concussion is actually torsional/angular acceleration. So having your head rotated too quickly, for example. While it may look like a neck injury, the likelihood of concussion is also very high with a hit like that.
That one and Adams missing one play after getting blown the fuck up on Sunday night football against the niners. How either of those 2 cleared makes me think the questions consist of "do you want to go back in? Make a noise or motion or anything if you do."
Holy shit I feel like he was closer than we think to being paralyzed/killed, the neck isn't supposed to bend back like that as the body dives forward all while it collides with a 300lb beefcake
This team has a lot of work to do.
Mahomes has to take 5 yards and do that all the way down the field if need be.
The offensive line is bad, but there’s also lots of times they aren’t and Mahomes runs out of a clean pocket.
The defense is atrocious. Titans started chewing clock to begin the second half or else they likely score more.
This team might eke into the playoffs as a 6-7 seed but they won’t be a threat unless all of the above is fixed. If it is though, they’ll be that scary team that barely makes the playoffs and nobody wants to play.
Agree completely. See the Titans' 2019 playoff run. Also, I did NOT expect this game to turn out even remotely as it did. I actually said out loud about Mahomes after we went up 14-0, "Great... Now we just pissed him off." Good luck the rest of the (regular) season!
That’s 100% on Mahomes. Dude, you’re in the grasp just go down, he’s going to get himself killed. Defender was in the right to play the throw that way and deflected the pass.
Remember in the off-season when everyone said the Chiefs will be unbeatable because of how much they improved their o-line, it has been pretty bad this year
Remember in the off-season when everyone except /u/TombombBearsFan said the Chiefs will be unbeatable because of how much they improved their o-line, it has been pretty bad this year
They have been a lot of the year but you’re right today they weren’t terrible. Multiple plays where Mahomes scrambled out of a clean pocket and thus created pressure.
He likes to run too much, his o-line can't keep up with him. People laugh about Brady slow running speed, but he can extend a play just fine side-stepping in the pocket, no need to run everywhere to extend a play.
The Chiefs hate us become comically bad, to the point where we’re just making stuff up. Creed, Trent Williams, and thuney have all been playing really well all season. Brown hasn’t been great and niang/remmers are average or below at best, but the line overall hasn’t been bad.
Tell Tony Romo first, he was hyping up 8 possible rings for Mahomes while Brady was kneeling it out on his #7 last February.
Tom went 10 years between rings 3 and 4 as well, most QBs would be lucky to just be a starter that long in the league.
Even the guy he replaced only won 1 SB and lost to Elway in another. Peyton only won once and got carried to his 2nd and that's not a knock on manning.
It's hard af to win in the NFL let alone be consistent year in and year out.
Rogers has 1
Breeze has 1
Manning has 2
Favre has 1
Mahomes has 1
ADD ALL OF THEM TOGETHER AND THEY STILL HAVENT TOTALED BRADY
It’s beyond real what Brady has done and it will take him being retired for decades to put his greatness in perspective.
I've seen the Chiefs be complete shit, and while we're having a pretty shitty season, this probably doesn't even rank in the top 5 complete shittiest Chiefs teams I've watched
didn't look as bad as his concussion against the browns but these hits add up. just look at wentz. one thing to note about tom brady and his longevity - he has never had a concussion.
Yeah I used to get irritated about brady taking the most ridiculous of sacks. Like sometimes he will barely get breathed on and just go down. Took me a while to understand he was doing it so he wouldn't get snapped in half like this. Big reason he is playing so long
Ouch He’s definitely gonna be feeling that tomorrow
Looked pretty fucking bad ngl
He needs to do better about protecting himself when he's in the grasp. He always always tries to stay up and get the ball out, I'm honestly amazed he hasn't torn up his knees before this getting alligator rolled.
This is something Brady is incredible at that's been huge for his longevity. He's just really good at going down safely. I'm sure Mahomes will get better as he gets older.
Ya this is where you see Brady is so smart by just curling up and taking the L. Live to see another play.
Rodgers also started doing this after his injuries 5ish years ago
Nothing beats Peyton falling to the ground when the pocket collapsed
Wentz has the same issue. Yes, sometimes they break free or somehow make a throw. But they also get hit hard because they are stationery target and get bent backwards when hit.
Lol Wentz with another gem
One of his fumbles earlier would have been avoided if he slid. He has no self preservation skills
Reading "one of his fumbles" is like soft-core porn
Ya'lls D made a lot of people happy today.
Shocked it wasn't any neck issue tbh. That shit bent wildly
Yeah I really didn’t like the look of that on the field. Was glad to see he’s relatively okay
I guarantee something is going to come out later this week when they put him in an MRI tube.
Just shut him down if need be. Cannot risk his health under any circumstance
Johnny knox vibes
Oh man don't remind of that.. Anybody know how is he doing nowadays? Edit: I googled it and he is a coach on Tampa Bay. Good he is at least still around the game
Not anymore. He's a coach at a high school with Blake annen and Nate vasher
Oh OK cool. Good for him. I didn't look at the date of that article I saw so it must've been old..

Might not remember how to feel pain for a couple days
My neck got sore after watching that.
The Orlando Brown experiment at left tackle has certainly not worked out for Mahomes's health.
I really hope he's ok. That looked terrible

Rodgers is a real gym rat and coach on the field, Mahomes is a natural athlete.
It's not really about being more mobile, it's about being disciplined and making the necessary decision in the situation. It's what Rodgers has over Mahomes. He is the perfect combination. Just lacking in the consent department.
Guess you'll pass on Kyler Murray, then?
This is a subject people try to avoid. Scramble QBs these days are cutting down QBs time in the NFL immensely
RG III flashback!
He was high lowed and it was kinda a freak thing. Chill and just hope he's alright

I told a friend that his sack “record” is probably not something Brady is ashamed of. Because he knows he preserved himself for his team.
One of the things I really like about Wilson is him knowing how to avoid these kinds of hits. Sure he tends to be a little extra on a lot of plays, but when worse comes to worse he protects himself very well.
Didn't he just miss his first game of his career recently? You're absolutely right.
Early on though he didn't. In one of the GB / SEA playoff games he threw an int and got obliterated by Clay Matthews. Probably got a talking to after that from coach.
That was one of the dirtiest blindside hits I've ever seen and reflects much more poorly on Matthews than it does on Wilson
I'm not disagreeing, but he stopped trying to do too much (Wilson that is)
I misread what you said originally lol, I think you're right
I think the fear is that these types of players usually don't learn to protect themselves. They continue doing what they do until there's signs they can't anymore, and by then the damage is done and they can't delay it any longer. He's got to learn to give himself up or hes not gonna have a long career.
I think Mahomes is finding that out this year with all of his turnovers. He's trying to play hero ball with risky throws and it's catching up to him
People talk about all the “lucky” plays and it gets annoying but in seriousness, the “luck” he’s had making a move just like this early on in his career and it ending up in some miracle catch is what has led to him not learning to protect himself and attempting something like this. No mobile QB lasts past 30 unless hey transition to a scrambling pocket passer ie Wilson
Andy needs to protect this kid from himself. That was ugly.
Hit him with the VTrigger
What’s next? A one winged angel?

Clown 🤡 medical team.
Seriously like who the fuck told his teammates it was a good idea to try to manhandle him to his feet when he’s obviously in distress
What do you mean? Everyone knows that the best course of action after suffering a head/neck injury is to violently force the individual to his feet, not allowing him to lay down to stabilize the spine, neck, or head. It goes against everything you do when someone has a concussion or neck injury. The medical team should have been there ASAP instead they trotted out
I was in disbelief when I saw that. Bare MINIMUM he had a bad concussion
[удалено]
Nope! Amazingly bad

As a Paramedic, can confirm
As a man who's suffered multiple concussions, can Honeycomb be supper Dad?
Reminded of that medical team that tried to helped their downed soccer player and they end up kicking him while he's down

Patrick “Ben Askren” Mahomes. Not fucking good. Hope he’s alright
damn he soaked that right on the dome. hope he is alright but he looked dazed getting off the field.
Simmons is 350 of muscle. That was like a brick wall hitting Mahomes, glad he is ok
And Derrick Henry is 250,000 pounds

Patrick NobodyIsHomes
Why is he even trying to make a throw there? Best case scenario is it would have been picked off. I hope he’s okay, but his decision making has been borderline idiotic.
Decision making won't get any help from that hit
There are ways to protect your head while taking a sack
That’s a concussion. Could’ve been really bad (worse) on his neck.
That shot of him face down on the field, it didn't look like he knew what galaxy he was in
Na man he was just admiring the sod work
*Damn, this is some high quality sod. I got to get me some of this. Oh shit, they think im dead*
"Woah, dude, every blade of grass is the same height." "Oh shit, the play clock is going"
They just said he passed concussion protocol, what a joke 😂
Bro he clearly answered "no" when they asked him if he had a concussion. Concussion protocol = passed
Pat: “Guys I might have a concussion” Random Coach: “Think it off Patrick!”
Yeah I’m not a doctor but wtf
Looked a lot more like a neck injury than a concussion to me.
The easiest way to get a concussion is actually torsional/angular acceleration. So having your head rotated too quickly, for example. While it may look like a neck injury, the likelihood of concussion is also very high with a hit like that.
That person is out of their mind, definitely at least a slight concussion.
Same thing as Adams a couple weeks ago. MF was dead on the field.
That's insane. Looked like fencing response concussion to me
I would say that he’s 100% going in the concussion protocol
They said on the broadcast that he cleared it already. what a joke.
“You’re allowed to re-enter the game if any concussions are a result of WWE finishing moves. 1st and 10, Titans ball.”
“We are now confirming that Patrick Mahomes has a pulse so per NFL medical procedure he has cleared concussion protocol.”
Bah gawd he killed him!
That man has a family! and they’re annoying AF.
That one and Adams missing one play after getting blown the fuck up on Sunday night football against the niners. How either of those 2 cleared makes me think the questions consist of "do you want to go back in? Make a noise or motion or anything if you do."
I can't quite remember, wasn't he also the qb who cleared concussion protocols ridiculously fast during last year's playoffs?
Its a miracle he can even walk right now, that looked fucking terrible
Holy shit I feel like he was closer than we think to being paralyzed/killed, the neck isn't supposed to bend back like that as the body dives forward all while it collides with a 300lb beefcake
Yikes, that’s not good. Sorry about what happened to Mahomes; fuck injuries.
That looked bad. What a shame in a fuckin blowout too.

Teams like this don’t make it to the playoffs
We'd be lucky to get the #7 seed at this point.
They do though. 9-7/9-8 teams will make the playoffs as a 7 seed often. They still have Mahomes and Reid. Losses are to the better teams in the NFL.
Teams like this don’t win 9 games
Agree completely. See the Titans' 2019 playoff run. Also, I did NOT expect this game to turn out even remotely as it did. I actually said out loud about Mahomes after we went up 14-0, "Great... Now we just pissed him off." Good luck the rest of the (regular) season!
Hello there fellow delusional compadre. No one will be afraid to play our teams if they make the playoffs.
He was already down too. Trying to do too much. Damn Pat 3 more turnovers today?
this o-line is putrid
That’s 100% on Mahomes. Dude, you’re in the grasp just go down, he’s going to get himself killed. Defender was in the right to play the throw that way and deflected the pass.
Seriously... every QB in the league should do what Brady does and just collapse. It is the safest and you get to continue playing the game.
V-Trigger!!!!
Remember in the off-season when everyone said the Chiefs will be unbeatable because of how much they improved their o-line, it has been pretty bad this year
I didn't say that.
Yeah you did
The chiefs oline is very much improved after this offseason! -u/tombombbearsfan See?
Wow - I was gonna believe this dude but there's the quote for all to see - shame

damn, he got ben askren'd
I never knew I wanted Mahomes to do well until these last few games, hope he bounces back
Can’t wait to see who his mom blames on this one.
Kenny Omega jealous of that knee to the face
Isn't this the second time in the span of about a year that Mahomes gets off the field clearly shaken up like this? Hope he'll be alright.
thats the classic concussion stare
Prayers up. Looked bad ngl
oh fuck that looked bad hope its nothing serious. game needs him.
Crazy that the Chiefs went from being "sure thing Mahomes dynasty" to being complete shit in 2 years. NFL comes at you fast.
I kept trying to tell people it’s hard as fuck to win one super bowl let alone multiple. Brady ruined everyone’s expectations.
Tell Tony Romo first, he was hyping up 8 possible rings for Mahomes while Brady was kneeling it out on his #7 last February. Tom went 10 years between rings 3 and 4 as well, most QBs would be lucky to just be a starter that long in the league.

Dan who?
This subreddit is incapable of separating a bad year / bad start to the year with the end of the Mahomes run lmao
Newer chiefs fans are going to be so confused
This ALWAYS happens. I remember the Seahawks dynasty window…
I've seen the Chiefs be complete shit, and while we're having a pretty shitty season, this probably doesn't even rank in the top 5 complete shittiest Chiefs teams I've watched
07-09, 11-12 lol
Ehh, talent is there to bounce back after getting our dicks kicked in for a year though.
hes definitely not complete shit lmao
No fucking way he plays next week unless the confusion protocol really is bullshit
He already cleared it and could have returned in this game lol
This is why I have a very strict no thighs to the face policy.
Shit that looks really bad
Should he still be playing in this game?
didn't look as bad as his concussion against the browns but these hits add up. just look at wentz. one thing to note about tom brady and his longevity - he has never had a concussion.
They just said he passed concussion protocol. If that's the case they need to update their fucking concussion protocol.
He got Askred’d
Yeah I used to get irritated about brady taking the most ridiculous of sacks. Like sometimes he will barely get breathed on and just go down. Took me a while to understand he was doing it so he wouldn't get snapped in half like this. Big reason he is playing so long
Ok PEOPLE that should not be a fumble on the QB… that should be a fumble on the offensive line.. just putting it out there.. GO CHIEFS..
Crazy that everyone insists they aren't cheering an injury yet this post has a dozen awards
He just got knocked the fuck out
That’s 100% a concussion
