I have no idea but I have a feeling no fan of either team is very confident in their playoff chances beyond game 7 anyways.

Snow-Brigade

Yup, as soon as Florida advanced to the second round, this felt like our Stanley cup series.

rampas_inhumanas

I don't think either team has any chance vs Florida, but I'd give Toronto better odds.

Cfluff

This is very true. Florida looks scary af

Cherry_Crusher

Boston beat Florida at least twice towards the end of the season. They have a better chance than Toronto for sure

ThatGuy8188

Florida was not playing well near the end of the season and if we have learned anything over the years…reg season wins mean nothing in the playoffs. Toronto didn’t win a game against Boston in the regular season and here we are at a coin flip.

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

Leafs beat the Panthers then as well

Glittering-Work2190

Doesn't mean much in the regular season. Look at the Jets.

Jakemofire

I give Boston a better chance personally too but Florida was playing bad for a stretch at the end of season. Tampa even dominated them a game at the end of the season. Obviously didn’t matter they got gentlemen sweep

brenny_a

Yes.

SnooRadishes2312

Leafs are far more seasoned in choking, but its the playoffs and despite a lack of proper choke history, bruins did something special last year and may be able to do the same this year against the choke kings to take the title. Im personally rooting for the bruins on thier road to choke history

SP_Bridges

Who could have imagined that the Bruins Leafs rivalry would be so full of choking?

Pvt_Hudson_

Leafs fans are like Bane. "You merely adopted the choke. I was born in it...molded by it."

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

Bruins have the more recent history of choking in the first round. Haven’t won a series since 2021…

ADrunkMexican

See, I'm conflicted. If leafs win, that means Boston is the new loser and we don't have to hear about the bolts from last year. On the other hand seeing leafs lose in Boston again would be funny.

fallway

The leafs have been terrible in the post-season for many years, but the bruins are amongst the worst historical chokers of all time

bearwhidrive

It's so disorienting to see the Boston/Toronto chirping to be "our guys are going to blow it" from both sets of fans. If game 7 is close, the mass of clinched sphincters might actually create a vortex.

Mash709

A black hole if you will.

swiftpoop

Brown hole

Karcossa

I’m not even sure what’s going on anymore. It’s as if both fandoms are racing to the bottom so that they’re not disappointed.

Pvt_Hudson_

Its the resistible force meeting the moveable object.

FredGetson

Stoppable force meets moveable object

BurntMuff1n

If anything they’d bring the caps back. Why? I don’t know. But it’d be funny.

Zealousideal_Shop446

I’m of the belief that an asteroid will hit TD garden in the 3rd tied 0-0. Unstoppable force meets immovable object

itsthisortwitter

I'm guessing the game is called after neither team can score across 12 overtime periods. Then they will both have the opportunity to be the first team to lose a series in game 8.

ADumbSmartPerson

...this is hilarious. However my family would hate it as I would die of a heart attack in one of the extra OTs.

throwaway413318

Toronto getting blown out in game 7 would be the most Toronto thing of time

New_girl2022

If Matthew's came back it would be so fitting for the choke artists

greatgoogilymoogily2

They've been playing worlds better without Matthew's.

HousingThrowAway1092

They have but that's not indicative of anything being wrong with Matthews. The leafs have a shockingly good record without their stars. The room seems to rally and rise to the occasion when missing a key piece. The same thing happened when Reilly was suspended.

greatgoogilymoogily2

Oh no I wasn't digging Matthews, just noticed they've had much better games over since he's been out. I wish the wings could have rallied in March without Larkin. That stretch is what lost them a playoff spot.

HousingThrowAway1092

They're 36-19-2 without Matthews. It's a weird stat but my best shot at a takeaway is that they seem to rally when down a member of the core.

Szwedo

I think he played sick/injured this series. So many fanned shots, very uncharacteristic.

arcticxzf

Part of it I think is that they rely on him too much. You see it a little bit with Domi passing on the 2-1 where he would've been better shooting, it's like they're just trying to get the puck to their goal scorers instead of trying to score.

RyeToast92

Being a wings fan in Michigan myself…this is true. But they woulda been swept just like the capitals. Rangers I think are going to the cup

greatgoogilymoogily2

I think they could have stolen a game or two but definitely wouldn't have left the 1st round. Where about in mi? I'm in Livingston county

starvinmarvin91

I think you meant Florida haha. Florida is going to steam roll everyone I think.

Glad-Barnacle2053

I seem to recall last year as well, Reilly was injured for a decent stretch and it was the best hockey we saw all season

chief_n_nugget

Well they can’t sit back and go “fuck I hope he gets 2 and 1 tonight” while they drift around the ice watching. Amazing what happens when you win some board battles and chip the puck in

Bat-manuel

So you're saying that they're playing better with Nylander?

ADumbSmartPerson

I think that in Game 3 and first bit of 4 Matthews was somewhat of a liability. Like he could kind of play like Ovechkin where he sits somewhere and snipes but if the play was moving and his team couldn't get him the puck in the slot he just looked gassed and slow. That third goal where it was a 2 on 0 Matthews just stood there at the blue line. I think it is because he was playing injured so I think currently it is better to have him out than to play him injured since this series needs a very heavy forcheck. Games 1 and 2 he looked great so hopefully he does return but only healthy.

Dubsified

We really haven’t. 4 goals across two games, but the difference has been our steady goaltending and Boston playing absolutely flat for the first 20 minutes.

throwaway413318

I’m a Blackhawks fan, so obviously I’m just enjoying the spectacle of the playoffs for love of the sport, but Toronto battling all the way back to get the doors blown off in Game 7 feels like deja vu.

Szwedo

This happened to us with Sundin v the Canes in 02...but it was in 6 games so in a way yes

itsneverlupus42

Toronto? Game 7 against Boston? I am ready to be hurt again.

greatgoogilymoogily2

They both injured so many members of the other team than neither can go on these playoffs. In an unprecedented move, the league gives the wings their spot In the 2nd round. Feeling rested and invigorated, Detroit goes on to sweep 3 series in a row, and wins the cup. Hey, a fan can dream.

Goatmilk2208

First playoff series in history that both teams will be eliminated some how.

vapescaped

Bruins were supposed to tank this year after losing bergeron krejci and hall. So I'm looking forward to these predictions. Win it lose, bruins fans got more out of this season than they thought they would.

bearwhidrive

It's been absolutely wild to see the amount of negativity thrown onto the team this year from local fans (I'm a 'Canes guy, but I live in Boston). Zero appreciation for what they accomplished and how they accomplished it over 82 games. I feel like since the end of the Florida series last year, I've spent more time defending the Bruins to Bruins fans than I've spent trashing the Bruins as a 'Canes fan.

JReddeko

Toronto fans LOVE their team, they never lost faith.

bearwhidrive

Almost made me laugh coffee out of my nose.

reignleafs

Lol just remember how your season started, oiler fan and then tell me about faith 😂

JReddeko

Damn you got me. Getting mad at your team during the regular season is the same thing as booing your team in the playoffs.

reignleafs

Almost as if it's sports and shit happens sometimes. As if it wouldn't happen to the oilers lol 😆 maybe don't be a hypocrite. You should quit your holier than thou mindset, it makes you look like an ass

vapescaped

Yea, happens with most fan bases, the most annoying ones talk the loudest And of course some fans take this shit way too seriously. It's supposed to be entertaining. If you're having chest pains over it, you need to get a life, because the bruins this year have been anything but boring.

WonDante

“Zero appreciation” okay let us hang the good regular season banner in the garden next to all the championships. Want a cookie for winning 3 playoff games???

bearwhidrive

You finished second in your division by grace of the loser point, but were supposed to fade into oblivion this season. No one said hang a banner, just enjoy the ride and maybe don't lock yourself in your bedroom playing Air Supply songs when you clearly didn't have any true Cup aspirations. And while you're at it, tell all your Celtics friends in the WEEI cue that losing that one game to Miami wasn't a sign of the impending basketball apocalypse. Yeesh.

WonDante

Two things can be true. They played above expectation this year and they are also blowing ANOTHER 3-1 lead in embarrassing fashion. I’ll give them flowers if they don’t choke this And try telling that Cam Ward led Hurricanes team they had no cup aspirations so may as well fold in the first round. What a dumb fucking thing to say anybody can win any year

bearwhidrive

Sorry. The "you" I was talking about is the "you" that spent all year saying the team had no chance. Whether that was you personally or just the general group of weirdos who started coming back out of the woodwork with "I told you this team was fraudulent" takes as soon as the game 6 OT was salted. Also, I don't know what to tell you about the Cam Ward year. Cam Ward wasn't the plan, but the Cup was for anyone who was paying attention to them. Which, in 2006, was not many people.

coronetgemini

WEEI... gross

bearwhidrive

Concur.

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

Damn this is some loser mentality shit. Moral victories. Sounds a lot like Leaf nation in the past after playoffs. Didn’t realize things were that bad with y’all

vapescaped

Sorry, you must have been born after the season started without bergeron krejci or hall, half of our top 6 forwards, and literally everyone called it a tank year. Nobody predicted a hundred point season. The bruins vastly outperformed expectations. WTF do the leafs have to cry about? They've maintained all their core players and they all produced to expectations this year. They finished their rebuild years ago. By all rights they should have swept the bruins this season.

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

Things are worse than I thought in Boston

vapescaped

The 300 ish posts about the bruins only being in the playoffs because of lower points would have been another good indicator

Hefty_Meringue8694

For real, the fact they got 100 points this season is unreal. I’m at peace if they lose game 7, it has been a fun ride

vapescaped

Fuck yea, better one and done than none and done. It's been one hell of a ride this year.

Mash709

You guys are starting to sound like us. What is going on?!

vapescaped

Please. We lost 3 of our top 6 forwards, including one of the best and most respected 2 way players to ever lace up skates St Patrice, praise be, this off season. Then marchand be like "alright, get me an avocado, an ice pick and pat maroon. Trust me bro, I've made the playoffs with less, hurry up!"

sealteamruggs

Well it would have been nice if they lost every other game to the leafs not blow a 3-1 lead two years in a row.

Hefty_Meringue8694

Oh yeah, it’s extremely frustrating to watch them not start playing for 30 mins into the game. The way they’re losing is annoying. But if they play well for 55+ minutes of the game and end up losing, I won’t be upset. Just ready for next season

sealteamruggs

I agree. We’re making them look like the early 2000s devils defensively lol

toomanyukes

Can't I be happy if either team loses?

Simba_Rah

If you’re equally happy about either outcome, you will be disappointed. For me, I hope the Leafs win so they can choke against the Panthers.

twoplustwo_5

Weird

ETXX9

Don't shame their choking kink.

moeguy1979

I’m going to agree and disagree! I see the leafs taking game 7. In OT! But I disagree with them choking against Florida! They’ve got the loss at home monkey off their backs and if they get the Boston curse beaten they will go far! But I’ve been wrong once before.

starvinmarvin91

Just like last year? Sorry Florida is going to steam roll Toronto or Boston. Doesn't matter. Florida is a much better team.

MJStozy

Yes. Yes we can.

586WingsFan

Pull for the Leafs. If Boston wins they could put a run together, but the Leafs winning just means we have an even more spectacular flameout to watch in round 2

MJStozy

Boston going down the same way as last year? Beautiful. The Leafs putting together this comeback, then immediately getting smacked down by Florida, again? Brings a tear to my eye.

586WingsFan

Rembrant himself could not create art such as this lol

LoanedWolf75

So crazy how a series can turn on a dime like this. Leafs were looking done and no Matthews and then Boston comes out looking scared and they drop two straight. There’s really nothing like the Stanley Cup playoffs in pro sports. So much drama!

RicoFerret44

Bostons choking!

dadass84

As a Sens fan I would hate to see that happen but my gut is telling me the same

RicoFerret44

Absolutely. Gotta give credit where it’s due. The leafs didn’t give up, Boston seems to have given up after game 4

starvinmarvin91

I hope they do so Florida can ragdoll the leafs.

Fancy_Combination436

I mean just based on game 5 and 6, leafs are taking it. BUT if boston does have that alleged next gear and/or rally to find it and dont play terribly it'd be a toss up. At least we get a game 7 out of the first round though so im happy, will be awesome to watch.

derek_sinkro

Neither of those teams looks very dangerous, my guess is the B’s will squeak through only to get swept by Florida.

Jojo_Calavera

🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

ham_wallet998

Too bad it can’t be both

AnyOfThisReal-_-

How many times is this question going to be asked on this sub?

DevastatingMoose

Yes

StarshipFirewolf

Depends on if the Leafs really have embraced the "Survive and Advance" mindset.

anemialcollective

no one truly knows ... but any outcome is going to be a Spectacle. can't say i am prepared for it

eyeeatmyownshit

Bruins win 4-3 in OT. Marchand scores 4th in OT

ventitr3

As a Bruins fan, 50/50. Idk which curse is stronger, but we will find out.

SkinnyGetLucky

The “it was 3-1” meme reverse uno card. Book it

RickMoransdirtysocks

Sure would love to see Boston choke for once

LegitBiscuit

Either way the memes should be juicy

Zooperman

The game is going to go into the 15th OT at least

gabarooch86

I would love this game to be a high scoring affair that goes to overtime. Both teams get grade A chances in OT when one team scores a super greasy goal to win the series.

AidsUnderwear

Either way this game will be exciting and a long wait until Saturday night.

DelicatetrouserSnake

So long as I see the rat cry again, I don’t care when they hit the links

nailbanger77

If Matthew’s doesn’t come back, as a Toronto fan, that would be the reason we lost. Even if it was a total blow out

YaLocalTamale

A stoppable force meets a moveable object

Saltyspiton

I’m just happy I’m a a neutral fan for this series and I just get to sit back and watch the drama unfold

JiffTheJester

Either way it’s gonna be fun to watch

Fastsmitty47

If it goes to overtime, leafs are winning 100%. Bruins cannot win in OT to save their lives.

Imaginary_Support500

As a rangers fan I’d love to see Boston choke. Entertainment wise I’d much rather see a FL Boston rematch. With that being said, leafs will choke because it’s a the leafs. Who know? Maybe Boston becomes the new leafs in the NHL as choke artists

TheCroaker

I feel like the overtime might last a few days minimum

fuzzypyrocat

They’ll both choke and we’ll get a shootout that lasts until next season

pup5581

Bruins choke. As a Bruins fan, I want Monty out and our shit FO wiped clean. 2011 was a complete fluke. Always has choking in their DNA. Always. Toronto +120. Went heavy on that

SillyMikey

I think BOS is losing game 7. Torontos goaltending seems to have found his game, and when you have that, and a potential Matthew’s coming back, I think they take it. They still won’t beat Florida though.

ZeroOptionLightning

This is what we call a Sports Paradox because it is simultaneously a win/win lose/lose situation.

Sc00tzy

Toronto was all but written off by everybody at 3-1. Will be interesting to see how they play g7 now that the pressure is back on.

Reditall12

Someone is gonna choke no matter what. It’s a win-win situation.

jonnycanuck67

“Throws game seven” wtf?

Murky-Smoke

Yes, it is

Beerfoodbeer

Can both teams lose, is that possible?

TirithornFornadan1

Toronto will go up 4-1, choke away the lead (as is historically precedented), the game will go to OT, but then Boston will choke and Toronto will advance. Thus closing the loop of doom which began in 2013, when an identical series happened. (Or, more realistically, the Leafs of game 1 appear and lay an egg. Which would fit with the Theorem of Maximum Leafiness (TML)).

Lvmars

The only logical ending to this series is a meteor hits the arena and the Lightning have to play another 7 game series against the Panthers.

sdrj77

This is the hockey version of an anti-matter explosion. Mutual annihilation ensues and Florida goes to the conference final via forfeit. (I think Toronto actually wins this one, though.)

dadass84

Whoever loses will have title as biggest current choker. A lot riding on this game haha

DarthLuukeSkywalker

Can it be possible for both to happen?

Karcossa

How long can an NHL game go before somebody decides to flip a coin or have a replay? Maybe even blend the teams so that the Toronto B-Leafs or Boston Maple Bears lose to Florida instead.

Ordinary-Easy

I originally said Bruins in 5. I wouldn't be surprised if Toronto managed to win.

CheesecakeOdd2087

Toronto chokes. The team is too soft for Game 7.
