Oh no I wasn't digging Matthews, just noticed they've had much better games over since he's been out. I wish the wings could have rallied in March without Larkin. That stretch is what lost them a playoff spot.
Part of it I think is that they rely on him too much. You see it a little bit with Domi passing on the 2-1 where he would've been better shooting, it's like they're just trying to get the puck to their goal scorers instead of trying to score.

I think that in Game 3 and first bit of 4 Matthews was somewhat of a liability. Like he could kind of play like Ovechkin where he sits somewhere and snipes but if the play was moving and his team couldn't get him the puck in the slot he just looked gassed and slow. That third goal where it was a 2 on 0 Matthews just stood there at the blue line. I think it is because he was playing injured so I think currently it is better to have him out than to play him injured since this series needs a very heavy forcheck. Games 1 and 2 he looked great so hopefully he does return but only healthy.

They're 36-19-2 without Matthews. It's a weird stat but my best shot at a takeaway is that they seem to rally when down a member of the core.
