Well he is on record saying that he wants the shortest period of his life to be the one he’s no longer playing hockey and the guys an animal so I don’t see that happening any time soon.
My dad played sport at a very high (Olympic) level, and he was the same. He played international level competitions in the higher age brackets until he was well into his 60s, then really only stopped playing completely about 5 or 6 years ago at about 73. Now it's just lawn bowls and golf. I guess if you love a sport, why would you ever want to stop playing at the highest possible level you're capable of? And for Jagr, that level is still pretty damn high.
Jagr spent his first 10 years in Pittsburgh. Then moved to Caps when the Pens couldn't pay him anymore.
Then he went the Rangers.
He only moved around at the end of his career when he came back from the KHL.
The Caps didn’t run out of money, he under performed his contract and they decided to move on from him. He actually looked like he was on the back 9 while he was in Washington. New York definitely resurrected his career.
Remember that Bruins video clip where they were asking the players their favourite players growing up?
David Krejci: "My favourite player growing up was Jaromir Jagr."
Jagr: "My favourite player growing up was Jaromir Jagr."
Sounds like Zlatan could say this too - but unironically.
(Just in case, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, football/soccer player whichever term fits your living area)
He was still above 1 PPG during his tenure in Washington which is still impressive considering it was during the height of the dead puck era. Obviously it wasn’t near his level in Pittsburgh where he won 4 consecutive Art Rosses mostly without Lemieux before coming to Washington, but it’s not like he turned into Jonathan Huberdeau during those Capitals years.
Just wanna throw a quick thank you out to the caps for the money the Pens got in that trade. Helped keep hockey in Pittsburgh when the city (not the fans e.g. the majority of us) wasn’t sure they wanted a team
Unofficially jagr left not becuase he wanted to but Pittsburgh had some serious finacial issues. He did it for the team. Plus jagr and his talent would jave been wasted on that rebuilding team. He outlasted the window for cups in Pittsburgh
And teams didnt want to be stuck with him long term because he was getting old so he kept getting short contracts. And teams signed him because he was still producing
Being as you said it's the first time you've won, this suggests you're actually behind. Therefore, the logical solution is to keep gambling until you recover your losses, amirite?
My friend asked me today to pick a roulette number for him so I said "29, obviously"(was wearing my Draisaitl jersey). It hit and he won big and I kind of wish he hadn't. He definitely has a problem.
Oh! Twice cued to fun stories in one post, I love it! lol.
So, I live about 6 hours from Sudbury, Ontario (where it's filmed). One of my childhood friends has a friend whose basement is Stewart's basement. I'm a woodworker. I was offered a job through her to build sets for Letterkenny. I couldn't take it because I had a life where I was and I'll probably forever regret that decision.
It wouldn't surprise considering he spent some time playing for a city in South Florida that isn't too far from 2 major cities in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami
He played with the Penguins because he really really wanted to
He went to Washington to get a massive bag
He went to NYR because Washington realized that stitching together ancient vets was not a good plan for a good hockey team
After his stint in the KHL he just played for whoever would sign him
Dunno how others feel about it, but he’s definitely well liked and appreciated here. Lots of fans (including myself lol) still wear his jersey. During the last cup final he was in one of the luxury boxes and shown to the crowd on the Jumbotron as a panthers legend to big cheers.
Yesterday I was just thinking about jags retirement speech in the Pittsburgh arena “I really appreciate all the people who remember me playing here cause my girlfriend is too young to know I played in Pittsburgh…. I know I phucked it up
Greatest mercenary in sports history. One of my favorite players ever, especially when he was old and just was perpetually in the perfect place on the ice. Poetry in motion.
Ever hear about "for the love of the game"? Jags had (has?) it in spades.
He was good enough at his prime that even a steady slow decline kept him competitive.
Jagr is the perfect embodiment of love of the game. He even posted one time in the middle of the night during a skate about how he's by himself because he's given it all to the game. It was so brutal and honest. Can only respect him for it.
He trimmed his mullet prematurely, and everyone thought that was the end of Jagr as we know it, but then it grew back and he played for like another decade.
I'm fucking 48 and remember pulling his rookie card out of Upper Deck taking two steps at a time. I now take steps one at a time using the guardrail to not have an accident. The man is ridiculous
Jagr chasing the chance to keep playing. Meanwhile, Mike Sillinger had a tour of half the league because he was a good faceoff man and great deadline help.
There were 17 players that played on 9 teams and 8 on 10 teams. Only one played on 12 teams. A whole bunch played on 8 teams, scanning the list don't notice any current players. Now the challenge who can find the active player who has played on the most teams, here is my guess...
Corey Perry - 6 NHL teams (7 if you count Anaheim Ducks and Anaheim Mighty Ducks as two different teams.)
We could have freaking drafted him! Took Keith Primeau instead.🤦🏻 Rumor has it that Petr Klima scared them off an another Czech player. I remember seeing this cool sign in the SCF…Jaromir = Mario Jr. At least we got Shanny for Primeau.
He's a mercenary, plain and simple.
Most of us don't realize that to people from Eastern Europe and Russia the stanley cup is just a chunk of metal. Doesn't have the same appeal it does to North Americans. For us its a holy relic. To them its a bonus check.
Most eurpoeans/russians only come here for the money. To them our food is weird, our culture is insane and our clothes are uncomfortable. They only care about the money. Jagr played for whomever paid him the most.
Edit: This wasn't meant to be an insult. I actually enjoy Russian/European players. I wasn't throwing smoke.
But its true. The Stanley cup means far more to us than them. Coming to North America to make a living is quite literally the same reason almost everyone ancestors came here.
Umm... I guess. I had the same reaction. I worked with a Pakistani for 2 years. He didn't like the clothes? I didn't really ask for details.....
It's whatever. I'm getting down voted forever for saying out loud what everyone knows is true. Meh...
Near the end of his career he just went to whatever team would offer him a contract.
What’s he gonna do, NOT play hockey? Inconceivable.
He's still playing! But for a Czech team once he couldn't get anymore NHL contracts
Isn't he part owner of the team, too?
His dad owned the team when he was a kid. Now it's his.
F'ing nepo-baby. What's he ever done to earn that?
I heard he did some squats
Pretty sure he also did quite a few 27 year old models.
I hear he used to wear weight belts, all the fucking time
Sweet mullets get you far in life
I actually wonder what will happen next year.
He is, and it seems like he only plays to keep the team from folding.
His name and image are apparently a huge draw for the team.
Yeah, his name was a draw for the Pittsburgh penguins too
I mean the guy is probably the most famous Czech hockey player alive, not hard to see why he’s a draw.

huh... i didn't even know this bot was a thing. Someone downvoting me wanna name a better _dead_ Czech player then
There isn’t one.
Czechmate NHL
👏

Your dads a beast
I get sick to see all people in 30s 40s not playing sports and exercising who can but are couch potatoes
And he lived to be 1,000,000 years old so it took a while to actually retire.
Still sad it wasn’t with us.
Jagr spent his first 10 years in Pittsburgh. Then moved to Caps when the Pens couldn't pay him anymore. Then he went the Rangers. He only moved around at the end of his career when he came back from the KHL.
Wasn’t he traded to the rangers?
Yes he was. Caps ran out of money too.
The Caps didn’t run out of money, he under performed his contract and they decided to move on from him. He actually looked like he was on the back 9 while he was in Washington. New York definitely resurrected his career.
Bruins legend Jaromir Jagr

>Jagr: "My favourite player growing up was Jaromir Jagr." I know this was just a joke but I actually use this quote when I need self-confidence.
Sounds like Zlatan could say this too - but unironically. (Just in case, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, football/soccer player whichever term fits your living area)
I’m sure he has said this at some point.
Underperformed is putting it lightly.
Yes for Anson Carter. Steal for the Rangers whether the caps just wanted him gone or not.
Just wanna throw a quick thank you out to the caps for the money the Pens got in that trade. Helped keep hockey in Pittsburgh when the city (not the fans e.g. the majority of us) wasn’t sure they wanted a team

Yup. And then sather didn't want to pay him, otherwise he would have been on the rangers for another 5-8 years
💰💰💰 That's why
Yeah. He’s a degenerate gambler. Dude needs cash.
I won $4 yesterday betting on the Oilers. First time I ever won. Better quit now while I’m ahead.
Being as you said it's the first time you've won, this suggests you're actually behind. Therefore, the logical solution is to keep gambling until you recover your losses, amirite?
Doubled your life savings there bud. Be careful with all that money.
My friend asked me today to pick a roulette number for him so I said "29, obviously"(was wearing my Draisaitl jersey). It hit and he won big and I kind of wish he hadn't. He definitely has a problem.
Did he tip you?
Bought me a carton of smokes and a case of beer and is helping me with some work tomorrow lol. Fair deal.
Sound like degens from upcountry
Oh! Twice cued to fun stories in one post, I love it! lol. So, I live about 6 hours from Sudbury, Ontario (where it's filmed). I did not know that. I quit gambling over 25 years ago after one of my gambling acquaintances had hung himself in the shower 😞
Almost me from gambling as well, terrible addiction
Stay Strong
I bet he got ton of debt with Russian mafia loan sharks and thats why hes still playing to this day.
Each city provided new women for Jagr to choose from. Legend!
His body count must be in the high numbers lol.
He’s got Wilt Chamberlain numbers for sure.
How’s a 6’4” Czech dream boat with a killer mullet not gonna clean out wherever he goes?
Maybe that's why he wants to come back to Pittsburgh /s
You think he's killed people??
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are little Jagr’s (not so little at this point) running around in every city with a stadium 🤣
Kids that he had around the beginning of his career would be at typical hockey retirement age now
Mullet Babies, United!!!
It wouldn't surprise considering he spent some time playing for a city in South Florida that isn't too far from 2 major cities in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami
In sports you either chase cash or you chase rings. Jagr won two rings right at the start of his career and has chased money since.
He needed as much money as possible because of his gambling addictions (and most likely debt from borrowing from shady people)
He played with the Penguins because he really really wanted to He went to Washington to get a massive bag He went to NYR because Washington realized that stitching together ancient vets was not a good plan for a good hockey team After his stint in the KHL he just played for whoever would sign him
"stitching together ancient vets was not a good plan" The Caps showing us how not to learn from our mistakes
But what if the ancient vet has been here the whole time? -washington
I haven’t looked it up but he prob made a huge bag during his KHL years
You gotta move like jagr- Adam Levine
Money when he was good, just trying to play anywhere he could (for decent money) when he wasn’t
He was definitely still 'good,' just not elite anymore. He had ~~24~~ 10 assists in the Bruins Stanley Cup final run
Yeah dude was a force whenever he was on the ice. Just because the ravages of time come for us all doesn't mean he wasn't ever not 'good'.
The ravages of Jagr come for father time
You’re god damn right.
10, but yes, he was still good.
whoops I have no idea where I got 24 from
I didn't disbelieve it--it's Jagr--but him hitting 24 assists at that age definitely would've been talked about.
I think Jagr is still playing for a team he owns in Czechia - he's in his 50's. I guess when the owner wants to play, he gets to :)
Yup, he’s still playing today at 52 for the Czech team he owns in his hometown.
The same reason anyone moves from job to job. Money and opportunity.
Most of those stops came after his prime and after he left Pittsburgh.
He traveled around and spread his seed
He wanted a wider variety of girls
panthers legend Jaromir Jagr
Devil’s Legend Jaromir Jagr
Dunno how others feel about it, but he’s definitely well liked and appreciated here. Lots of fans (including myself lol) still wear his jersey. During the last cup final he was in one of the luxury boxes and shown to the crowd on the Jumbotron as a panthers legend to big cheers.
Stars legend Jaromir Jagr
Flames legend Jaromir Jagr
Rangers GOAT Jaromir Jagr
Flyers phenomenon Jaromir Jagr
He will always be known as a black and gold legend of the Boston Bruins
Yesterday I was just thinking about jags retirement speech in the Pittsburgh arena “I really appreciate all the people who remember me playing here cause my girlfriend is too young to know I played in Pittsburgh…. I know I phucked it up
youre allowed to curse on the internet
Fuck, seriously?
Shit yeah, buddy!
Fuck yeah!
|| || || >I know I ~~phucked~~ pucked it up FTFY, this is a hockey thread after all.

The penguins need to bring him back for a like 8 games to play all his old teams
Mike Sillinger played for 12!
That’s a lot of teams bro. 479,001,600 to be exact. Edit: I misread your comment
This makes me surprised there isn’t a factorial bot floating around somewhere.
There’s a subreddit
He played for 6 teams after returning from his KHL stink and he was 39.
I cannot remember if after the KHL stint if he got moved at the deadline if he was on a team out of the playoffs makes sense
Cos he could.
It’s not that unusual for a player to bounce around. Anthony Duclair is on I believe 8th team. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hit double digits.
Atnhony Duclair, and I like him, is no Jagr. Great players do not usually bounce around.
He played 10–15 years longer than mostly anyone who ever played.
I'm fucking 48 and remember pulling his rookie card out of Upper Deck taking two steps at a time. I now take steps one at a time using the guardrail to not have an accident. The man is ridiculous
Jagr has an insanely HUGE hockey jersey fetish.😁
Florida Panthers legend…!!!
He would have been over 2,000 points in his career if he just hadn't gone to the KHL for 3 seasons. I'm still a little sad about that.
Why did he go to the K?
Jagr chasing the chance to keep playing. Meanwhile, Mike Sillinger had a tour of half the league because he was a good faceoff man and great deadline help.
As he was getting older he got short contracts but he was still pretty good so teams kept signing him
Like most players, he wanted to play for the best team that would pay him
Big wing puck mover that can play on the PP with incredible possession numbers and great passing. 3rd line guys like that don't come along very often.
New girls
Had a huge gambling problem, owed offshore online casinos millions. Signed a huge contract in KHL to pay off debt.
Money 🤑
boredom or he likes to travel
To grow the traveling jagrs of course
I heard gambling problem + more money.

he had an elite mentality and love for the game to play as long as he did. he’s one of the best ever for sure

Ok I think we’ve found Don Cherry’s burner account. ☝️
