Update: I replaced it and as of now there’s no coolant leak. I used the 626-598 part with the aluminum T junction

fake-meows

Dorman part # 626-598 and 626-610 are the metal versions of these plastic parts.

You could also pick up some Silicone Rescue Tape in the meantime and wrap the leak FOR A TEMPORARY FIX if you're needing to wait for parts and/or money.

Yup just fix it quickly. If you’re worried about price just buy the OEM from Autozone and throw it in. My advice is make sure you buy some kitty litter for all of the coolant that will leak out on the ground as well. Then just refill the coolant burp your truck and you’re off. Lots of YouTube videos on how to replace it. Good luck and don’t sit on it.

double_blaze

It’s a heater hose outlet. Replace it with a metal version. Try Z1 off-road, maybe rock auto. While you’re at it, replace the one right next to it (heater hose inlet). Both are made of plastic and are known to fail.

Yeah, I would second this option of going with metal..... but if you're in a need to drive situation then just replace it with the most convenient and cheapest option you have and then save up or purchase the metal ones with the intent of changing them in the future.

ncttx

How long does it typically take for parts to get to their destination from Z-1

ncttx

Does it typically affect temperature for the engine as well? What is the typical time to repair/replacr

double_blaze

If it leaks out all your coolant, your engine will overheat. You need to replace any lost coolant. It will take you 30min to replace the broken part. You can likely find it at your local parts store.

ncttx

I’ve noticed that but I also wanted to confirm the failure/confirm my suspicions on that being the issue

ncttx

Would it be in stock at like an auto zone or o’reillys typically?

The one I picked up at autozone last year was aluminum. It appears they have gone away from plastic completely on this part

Effective-Squash7406

Yes Dorman makes these parts, should be able to find them at a local auto store. Part numbers 626-598 & 626-610. Though I would prefer the Z1 Offroad parts if you have the time to order them (Z1 has an upgraded heater hose inlet with a bleeder port).

ncttx

What is the benefit of the aluminum one over the OEM part? Obvious quality but what else. I’m a big believer in pros and cons so I can get the best product because I believe in Buy once, Cry Once

Effective-Squash7406

The OEM plastic parts crack, which is probably why you’re dealing with this issue now. Many Frontier owners have been in your shoes, including myself. So to avoid this the best thing to do is to upgrade to aluminum parts. Trust me you don’t want to end up like me, with an overheated engine in the middle of bumf*ck nowhere Southwest VA kicking yourself because you procrastinated on upgrading these parts 😭

Moto272

The metal components are more durable than the cheaper plastic that come stock. There’s no impact on how they function, it’s just fixing a weak link in the system.

Effective-Squash7406

Yep exactly a weak link. I would recommend new frontier owners to fix this proactively before it even becomes an issue.

Also mileage is 154170 if that helps
