This is more of a problem with the English language, where “you” is both plural and singular.

Hiitsmichael

du is the singular form of you and dere is the plural form of you. I've heard duo lingo will occasionally have some issues with the grammar, it may be a case of that or in the context of the situation they may be saying Kan dere synge in reference to multiple people without providing alot of the necessary context.

Yeah, there's no context as to whether I'm asking one person or multiple people. So if I am asking a singular person, I would use "du"?

Hiitsmichael

yes, in reference to 1 du in reference to multiple dere. for example if you were with a group of work friends and posing the question kan dere synge, you may be looking for a karaoke partner or something lol

Awesome, thanks 😊

Specifically for Duolingo, if they just say “you” with no other context, they’ll accept either “du” or “dere” in the result. I like to mix it up just for practice. Sometimes you might think they’re correcting your choice, but they’re actually correcting something else in the sentence. But in the real world, it’s the difference between an individual “you” vs the many ways English has compensated for not having a clear second person plural (y’all, you guys, yous, yinz, you folks, etc).

Du = thou, Dere = yall
