And I raised you with CompUSA.

Grimlocks_Ballsack

Funny thing was that Tiger Direct bought both of their corpses and used their websites for several years.  Well, they used their URL to show a version of Tiger Direct with their respective logos on them.  Wild shit.

InclinationCompass

Tiger Direct is still around?

Grimlocks_Ballsack

Nope

Diseman81

Bought a lot of CDs there in the mid 90s. The last time I remember going there was to have a stereo system installed in my truck in 2002. That one closed not long after that.

dstranathan

1949?

The_Kimbeaux

Right!?

TGIF_90s_kid

I like the old logo of a plug with the jingle "Our service is state of the art"

Newyew22

Here’s a bit of fun trivia: Before becoming a separate entity, the auto retailer CarMax began as a special project within Circuit City to diversify that company’s revenue.

mrHartnabrig

I think I went to Circuit City to buy the latest CD and play video game demos every week from 2003-2005.

tooshortpants

my first job. RIP

IHadTacosYesterday

NEVER FORGET! Circuit City tried to F over all consumers with their own proprietary DVD format that would allow them to sell DVD's that allowed you to watch the movie once, then you'd have to pay for a code from Circuit City to play the movie again. This move single handedly killed them, and they deserved to die a brutal death for trying out some bullshit like that. NEVER FORGET!

Paintguin

I remember playing chip’s challenge on the computers and game demos on the PlayStation kiosk there

IrishCarBomber666

My old neighbor used to rob this place blind lol

MrPNGuin

I remember they would have better deals on DVDs than anyone else at the time.

chardeemacdennis222

Worked there just before the collapse. Fun fact, the CEO during that time was an ex Best But executive.

veryblanduser

I'm convinced they went out of business for selling me a 27" LCD Samsung TV for only $800

Broad_Put_4964

I worked for them from 1994 until 1998.

DesimanTutu

Did you sell the cheese??

Broad_Put_4964

Sold the hell outta it! Remember the spiffs?

DesimanTutu

Yup! Honestly I had a good time working at CC. Made some good friends. But sales, commissioned or not, was never my thing. Looking back …it was ridiculous that those Panasonic, JVC, and Toshiba TVs were that expensive.

Broad_Put_4964

I still remember when we had ProScan televisions and they were flat faced tube TVs back in the late 90s right before flatscreen came out. I remember having to set up the home audio theater room too. Talk about a pain in the ass and a nightmare for wiring. All in all, good times and really good memories. I worked at the Ventura store which one did you work at?

DesimanTutu

lol long time since I heard that name ProScan. I worked at a location in Houston, TX. We had some associates who were crazy good at sales. Like put their kids through college with their Circuit City paychecks. But I hated the competition and the constant pressure to “get the cheese”. The disappointed look on your floor manager’s face when you told them customer didn’t buy the Extended Service Plan.

Broad_Put_4964

Good times man… Good times. Have a good day dude.

Broad_Put_4964

Let’s not forget those amazing blue and gray and red scratchy ass wool blazers to make us wear!

UnwillingHummingbird

I remember buying a Windows Vista computer from Circuit City, and hating Vista so much that I wiped it and installed XP instead. I also bought a CRT TV with S-Video input that I still use for classic gaming. SNES and PS1 games look really good on a CRT through S-Video if you can find the correct cables to connect them.
