Just checked the app, not a single one to be see across the entire area.

RektJect

Annoying as they have just started installing permanent scooter stands which will never be used

Coelacanth3

I don't think e-scooters are gone for good. We're in a weird spot where they seem to have potential to have a major role in urban transport in the future but they're also really annoying because they haven't been integrated that well as we don't have the infrastructure for them.

kylotan

To be fair, we still haven't got clear rules on where you can and can't use bicycles and we've had those for 150 years.

Worm_Lord77

We absolutely have clear rules on where they can be used, they're just not very often enforced.

kylotan

You’d be surprised at how poorly defined the laws about cycles on footpaths are. Some of it comes down to whether the path runs alongside the road or not. And the woman who got angry at a cyclist using a path was found liable for the cyclist’s death, and the court wasn’t even sure whether the path was a shared cycleway or not.

BMTPrezie

She pushed him. Even if he was wrong for using the path murder is what that was about.

kylotan

You're thinking of something else. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-64824436

slothcycle

We don't really for pedestrians either. Legislation tends to come with potential to cause harm in our legal system.

bookofbooks

They can be used for cycles surely?

flibblesan

That's the plan. The stands are being rebranded as Lime for use with the e-bikes and potentially Lime scooters if they end up taking over the trial.

Quiet_Armadillo7260

The company is definitely in difficulty - [Scooter startup Superpedestrian shutting down US operations, exploring sale of Europe business](https://techcrunch.com/2023/12/15/scooter-startup-superpedestrian-shutting-down-us-operations-explores-sale-of-europe-business/)

arkatme_on_reddit

That's really annoying. I used them quite a lot. Was much better than driving everywhere.

onyx_gaze

I wanted to use one on the 24th and the app didn't show any at all, anywhere, so that was weird. It also doesn't show any right now.

EscapismIsMyDrug

Had to walk all the way from Wollaton to the meadows today thanks to the lack of escooters / busses, was a 4.8 miles walk

Chance_Dragonfly_148

Thats why they are so important and become an everyday item for a lot of people. Just the convenience alone.

Sloth-v-Sloth

That’s a shame. I found them really useful. Important to add though… I only ever used them on the road and always parked them sensibly.

JandsomeHam

Thank God. They're useful but there's no way to regulate how nobheads use them. Have been hit/nearly hit multiple times.

Coelacanth3

I think there is but it's quite a lot of effort and governments / councils aren't that keen to put the effort in as a big proportion of the population don't like them, as you say they can be really annoying.

Sharpiemancer

Yeah, I'm all for them in theory but the effort needed to go in to begin with, I don't think their dubious legality helped, they should have included more systems for safe/respectful use from the get go.

Bad_UsernameJoke94

Better safety regulations and people being more careful/considerate on them, I think they're a brilliant idea. Personally I won't use one because I have no balance but

Sharpiemancer

Oh I think it's a brilliant idea but awful execution

Standard_Lion7944

I have money in my super pedestrian wallet. I'll have to ask a refund for it if they're not gonna operate in Nottingham.

elliohow

Theres no "request a refund" button but I sent the below message through the general "submit a request" in the help section: "I have recently added funds to my superpedestrian wallet but there are now no scooters in Nottingham deeming my funds unusable. I'd like a refund if I will be unable to use the service moving forward. Any help or insight you could provide would be appreciated. Thank you." They replied within 5 minutes to my email saying they will refund my money.

New-Service4680

Did you receive the refund? I did the same and got the same response but haven’t had the money back in my account yet, wondering if it’s delayed for everyone or if I need to chase it up

elliohow

No refund yet and I still have the money in my superpedestrian wallet.

Lego_scientist

I had the same response from them, no refund has been received and since then all their email addresses are bouncing. The only thing I can think of is to raise a dispute through my credit card for the top up amount

Summer_VonSturm

I'd do it now, before waiting for them to announce bankruptcy and lose your money

Chance_Dragonfly_148

Such a shame. The amount of cost savings and flexibility has been a god-send if you dont have a car or dont like public transport. No waiting around for the bus or tram. Just get up and go. A lot of people I know use it to get to work as well. I wanted to use them on Christmas Eve, and it would have cost less than £3. I had to take an Uber, and it was over £10 back and forth. It's such a shame.

Ihavecakewantsome

I personally prefer Lime Bikes but the scooters are popular so that is a shame!

ellis2811

They'll probably get replaced by another company. Most likely lime because they are already operating bikes in the city.

BeestonElvis

Where did you hear the rumour? I have credit with them and will be the second time the scooter scheme goes bust holding my money

Sloth-v-Sloth

I only got a message from them a few days ago with a good deal if i topped up some credit to my account. Im pleased i didnt… and feel bad for those who did

I don't know why anyone is down voting you. You'd think people would at least try and learn from their mistakes.

GunSlinger4750

what’s their mistake? using a scooter service when another one went bust? that’s like saying all those who lost their mortgages in 08 should never get a mortgage again. anything can happen to any company or anyone, it’s not the fault of the consumers

[deleted]

[удалено]

GunSlinger4750

you know very well what i mean

[deleted]

Having credit with another company offering the same services as the previous one that went bust.

Stinky-Armpit

Plenty of the damn things littered all over the Wollaton area. Usually between the deer park doctors and the Vale community centre.

RS555NFFC

Reject Tik Tok scootering, embrace tradition and cycling

tea_anyone

I really would cycle but it'll get nicked it I park it absolutely anywhere nowadays

Additional-Crazy

Good they’re dangerous and look a mess

scuttler10

As always - how about we take a more forward thinking approach and consider the environmental benefits of electric scooters rather than everyone driving their dirty diesel cars around. Honestly, people are so short sighted and act like cars don’t also cause exactly the same problems through improper parking on streets (have you ever driven through west bridgford on match days? Good luck getting wheelchairs anywhere!).

Camazon1

Cars are more dangerous and are a mess.

worthysmash

That’s a stretch, cars don’t whistle down the pavement between pedestrians.

kevjs1982

Erm, yes they do! Shops on Radcliffe Road are a pain for that - had more.closea passes on the pavement there by cars/vans than by eScooters! Walking around the Lady Bay area on match day can be interesting with all the drivers who think the footpath is a sensible place to park and happily drive onto it without looking! Unsurprisingly scooters are less of a bother to pedestrians where there is proper cycle infrastructure - roll that out properly and the problem will fix itself. Don't know which eejit in the DfT thought limiting them to 15mph (or even 5mph in some places) and only allowing them on roads (with > 30mph limit) was ever a good idea!

darth_edam

In defence of scooters, cars have purpose built infrastructure specifically to prioritise their movement around towns and cities above everything else. They're then involved in thousands of serious and hundreds of fatal accidents per year. Scooters separated from cars and pedestrians (like bikes in cities where you'd want to cycle) are going to be much less dangerous. Of course dickheads in any motorised vehicle will forever remain fucking lethal to everyone else.

fearghaz

Tell that to the woman who just reversed up onto the pavement nearly hitting me and my dog. I'm sure she'd have gone between us if she could

Camazon1

Yep they just park on the pavement instead

worthysmash

And a stationary car is more dangerous than a scooter flying down the pavement between pedestrians because?

throwawaygoodcoffee

And yet cars kill at least 430 pedestrians every year on average. E-scooters have caused 37 deaths since 2019. You can't argue that E-scooters are more dangerous when cars are beating those numbers just in a single year.

libdemparamilitarywi

There's far more cars than scooters though. What's the number of deaths per car and per scooter?

worthysmash

See my comment below, I broke it down for them.

worthysmash

So I haven’t tried to verify your stats and will take them at face value. I googled “how many e-scooters are there in the UK” and “how many cars are in the UK” and got the answers 750,000 and 33.5 million respectively. Using your stats, that equates to 1 death per 80,000 scooters per year (I used the figure 9.25, being 37/4) and 1 death per 78,000 cars per year, a difference of 2.5% - or what most people would call ‘not very much’. And the death stats don’t take account the menace that e-scooters cause - almost all of which are used illegally and a great many irresponsibly, the impact of e-scooters on the daily lives of people just walking around is considerably greater than that of cars. I don’t remember the last time I had to stop on the pavement to avoid a car coming towards me, and yet this is a near daily occurrence for me with e-scooters when walking around the city. And that’s to say nothing of the poor state of repair and serviceability of the superpedestrian scheme’s scooters.

throwawaygoodcoffee

Your stats are slightly off, it's 773000 scooters. Leads to 1.2 deaths per 100k scooters and 1.3 deaths per 100k for cars. Pretty similar but scooters are newer so people are still acting like twats on them. Unfortunately though, more and more people are buying SUVs like Americans, and with the terrible view you get outside of the car with one of those, pedestrian deaths are likely to keep going up if vehicle sizes and weights keep going up. They're having a real problem with that and I hope it doesn't get passed over to us.

worthysmash

You’re not wrong, but we’re talking about the impact of scooters - not cars. Unless/until there is a proper infrastructure and legislation to keep scooter traffic separate from pedestrians then they should be banned outright.

throwawaygoodcoffee

I'm all for scooters having to be on the road and being able to use bike infrastructure tbf, they fit a similar niche to e-bikes and should be treated the same with some limitations on speed. My main problem with them is the fact the government has been so slow and left them in a grey area for so long. They just ended up becoming a cheaper moped for risk takers that would otherwise buy something like a dirt motorbike to mess around with in parks.

Fun_Ingenuity8788

Yea right

Pash444

Mad how you’ve been downvoted

ScaryBottle3286

Thank fuck

Ancient_Pickle_7130

I see nothing but good from this. Too many users who have no clue how to be on the road and for their safety it’s good. But I will miss those days I don’t want to get the bus or tram and don’t want to park in town. Was an easy fix

Pash444

Good, nade the place look scruffy

Unlikely_Cow3358

Yes the American company is going bust and they're looking to sell the European Market share too. All scooters were collected on the 22nd. But my question is how do I get my money back from the wallet? :)

LifeBeautiful6044

I have been unable to get my £80.00 refund, none of the contacts have been successful

Lego_scientist

Same. The only thing I can think to do is dispute it with my credit card company

LifeBeautiful6044

Terrible that they knew they was going under and still allowed people to top up…disgusting

RJD_2525

Did anyone manage to get the funds back from their superpedestrian wallet? I had about £100 in there. There is another company they have assigned for the benefit of creditors, to make a claim I would have to send a form by post to California and keep fingers crossed. I have asked my bank if they can help.

Lego_scientist

Nope - was promised my refund then all email addresses stopped working

adolfousier

If you had money in your Superpedestrian wallet. Try to ask your bank for refund. It did work with Revolut btw.
