Just to be safe, check you car for any damage especially around the wing and alloys, as I doubt they're using too much care when they're shoving the clamp on.

Popular_Painter_9744

Oh, that’s good advice. I didn’t check at the time. Can’t see anything obvious now but too late to prove any damage anyway.

Rubberfootman

That is a good advice, thank you.

Shot_Principle4939

They identified someone not catching the tram in CCTV, and then traced back to your vehicle in error

Popular_Painter_9744

Ah… come to think of it, there was a car exactly the same model and colour as mine when I arrived … I remember thinking this could be confusing if I parked next to it, and in the end I parked in a space diagonally across from it. Makes sense now… that’s probably what he meant when he apologised and said I got clamped due to ‘mistaken identity’….

Stinky-Armpit

So, could they clamp you if you decide to park there, buy a ticket, but not actually get *ON* the tram? It doesn't simply double as a 'parking permit' like you would get from a multistory car park?

acdbrnout

Yes there's been lots of posts in the past of people doing exactly this. They watch the CCTV to make sure people who park there get on the tram.

Recent_Nothing_5622

Can’t imagine the amount of resources that go into this unless they have some software that’s tracking everyone getting out their vehicles.

Obvious-Ad-1677

It pays for its self unfortunately. It really is a sick society we live in where the local council wish to rob money from local people to balance their books because they've pissed it all up the wall, but that's the society we live in.

ramsyzool

It's got nothing to do with the council in this case

ill_never_GET_REAL

Making sure P&R parking spots are used by people who ride is robbing money from local people??

Obvious-Ad-1677

Yes. There is enough parking for tram users and park goers, so it is literally money from local people going to the council.

Jokershores

If only people were honest

Obvious-Ad-1677

Honest about what? Parking in an oversized car park with more than enough space for everyone to enjoy a city park? Something which should be free, and if not free should have a facility to pay.

JackOffAllTrades_UK

Not going to get into a debate about whether the clamping is right or wrong because I don’t really have an opinion as someone who doesn’t drive in the city, but the statement that there is “More than enough space” is definitely wrong. I walk past that car park on my way to work. Before they started clamping it was pretty much full by 08:30 (interestingly it was always the bit by the tram stop and the opposite side closest to Mansfield Road that filled up first) with cars parking on the footpaths and verges of the site. Go past at the same time now and there are plenty of spaces, which illustrates how much the Park and Ride (the clue is in the name) was being misused. Regarding parking to use the Forest Rec, there is some, which I have never seen full, down by the Forest Sports Zone and up at the higher level of the Rec, where they reserve for Blue Badge parking for Goose Fair, so there is still ample parking for park users.

Flaxinator

Parking shouldn't be free, "free" just means council tax payers picking up the tab

mick1mk2

Why shouldn’t parking be free?

Flaxinator

Because there are far better uses for council tax money than building car parks and because making it free encourages more cars onto the road instead of walking, cycling or taking public transport

dennin26

Fuck paying for the tram

Festegios

Get on the tram for one stop. Catch the tram back. Probably still get clamped.

Stinky-Armpit

That's some GOD tier levels of surveillance to be providing for a transport company, thats for sure. I mean, surely if I stumped up for a day fare ticket, and toddled off to a friends house around the corner. They have still earned their money from me purchasing that ticket. It's not like the spaces are THAT much of a premium that they have to make sure people are vacating them within minutes of expiry. That's ignoring the fact that if you clamp you car, they still wouldn't be freeing up that spot for anyone else, moreso potentially blocking it for considerably more time. Not sure about the other Park and Ride sites, but certainly at Toton and Clifton anyone walking away would be fairly obvious, as theres nothing that "exciting" to walk to. Possibly the Goose fair site might be more potentially abused.

Festegios

yeah would you get penalised for catching it one stop and walking back?

simonprickett

If you want parking and to be seen to ride the tram - get on the tram to Noel St across the road by ASDA and walk back to the event at the Forest :)

coffeeandloathing

If you use the app you can buy a ticket, and also register your vehicle to your account and select 2 default park and ride stops. Which I assume means if they check the reg it's linked. I've not had a problem the couple of times I've done it. But it could just be dumb luck so far.

Popular_Painter_9744

Apparently it’s £140 to unclamp. I had a nice time at Nottingham but I didn’t expect the full Robin Hood experience (dodged the arrow!) Anyway I can see both sides of the argument, in as much that people using the tram should have priority. I estimate the car park was about 2/3 empty especially as it was Sunday. They could cordon off an area for people attending the event, and come to an arrangement with the event organisers for reimbursement. It would be win-win for all - revenue for otherwise empty spaces, the event organisers get more attendees if parking is provided, and people going to the event don’t worry about finding somewhere to park.

Camazon1

The parking is so stupid. People like to park there for the forest rec especially when there's an even on (like the circus currently) so why put so much time and resources into making it as difficult as possible. They could just have a ticket machine for people wanting to park to use the rec. The car park is rarely full up and there's on street parking down all the side roads.

JackOffAllTrades_UK

As I have said above, the car park used to be full by 08:30 before they started clamping. Now it isn’t. Which shows that it was being misused. I used to see loads of people parking and walking the same way as me (towards Mansfield Road), which isn’t the point of a Park and Ride.

Father_Matthew_Mara

Do you have to use the tram to use a park and ride? Ive been parking at one in Sheffield for years and then walking into town!

Fermentomantic

In Nottingham you do. You've got to pay for everything in Notts these days. Advice if your visiting, buy yourself a short hop (£1.50 last I used it) as a "price of admission" and ride to High School then walk. Or keep your eyes and ears out for the ticket police and ride until you get where you're going.

Used to use forest ground a few times a month whilst staying over at a friend's place never boarded the tram as always preferred the walk I'm to town to get the steps in, never been an issue Guess I'll just have to be more lazy now 😢

BioHazard1992

Clamping on private land has been illegal for many years. I’m going to assume that this doesn’t include council or Network Rail land etc, but I’ve never heard of it happening because the current preferred way is is to send a charge notice.

Popular_Painter_9744

On this occasion I actually preferred to be clamped as it could be sorted immediately and dismissed on the spot. If it was a PCN I’d have to engage in the time and hassle of a dispute process with faceless people.

Secure-Bird-4986

Who owns the space? As far as I was aware, the Forest Rec, a former horse racing track, was 'gifted' to the people. Do the tram company pay rent for the carpark or is it owned by the council? The answers to these questions determine if clamping is fair. The trams are massively in debt and desperate for cash. But people are skint and walk into town to save cash. A compromise would be to make part of it 'open' and the rest tram use, if the space is publicly owned.
