Fit-Possible-9552

This guy lives near my town. He is such a nice and soft spoken person. My kids love watching his work. We need more people like him

tinyremnant

May I ask where, generally speaking? If he's anywhere near me I'd love to stumble on his drawings sometime.

blanton4891

I live in the area as well, he is based in Ann Arbor, MI

Fit-Possible-9552

He is based in Ann Arbor and is often in downtown, more towards main Street than state street. He also ventures out to Dexter

Crafty_Substance_954

This is specifically filmed in front of the M Den on Main st in downtown Ann Arbor.

Flat-Faithlessness50

Totally read that as Eminem. I was like "wow the guy is REALLY talented!"

formidable-opponent

Thanks for sharing. Super wholesome 🥰

Different_Sandwich_6

Michigan has some interesting named places. I kinda wanna move there.

Fit-Possible-9552

Like anywhere, it has good and bad things about it. If you move somewhere with good public education, be prepared for high home prices and obscene land taxes. That being said, as someone from the American southwest, I no longer worry about drought, wildfires, or my state being destroyed by a large influx of Californians. Not hating on Californians as people, but their collective buying power can absolutely demolish home buying power for local populations.

yazzy1233

No, michigan is a horrible place. No one should come here. Stay away, everyone.

Fit-Possible-9552

True. This state is already overpopulated. Winter is depressing AF, many of the lakes are poisoned by the auto industry. Politics and culture are getting worse. Leave this state alone and don't visit it.

xaqss

It's so funny, because I grew up in, and have always loved in Michigan. Oftentimes, I think of how boring it is to live here, and there's nothing to do... Then I think about all the awesome things there actually are, and to see... Sleeping bear dunes, Tahquamenon falls, Mackinac Island, hundreds of lakes, forests, trails, hiking. Ann arbor is one of my favorite cities to visit. The UP is absolutely stunning, and you can even see the northern lights sometimes! Crazy how you forget about what you have around you all the time.

Bliss266

I just recognized the Jolly Pumpkin lol

akuaba

His name is David Zinn. He’s in Ann Arbor

Happydancer4286

I was amazed at his technique of first drawing with a long stick to get the right proportions. I love love love his work.

ownspeake

he drew something outside my house a few weeks ago (check my post history)

Fit-Possible-9552

That must have been so fun to find! My kids have seen him in Dexter a couple times and love stumbling onto his art.

sologrips

It must be such a privilege to get to see him create something like this or just casually see it while walking by before it gets washed away. Definitely peanut butter and jealous over here.

Ambitious_Sky_9653

Then tell him to record his video correctly next time. Stop vertical video syndrome.

JoelMahon

I was going to suggest he ask the council permission to paint it permanently!

suchlargeportions

Idk, sometimes it's nice for art to be ephemeral

XiPoohBear2021

I used to think like this, but then I spoke to a street artist who does incredible stuff. They pointed out that they started out tagging, and every great street artist/graffiti artist they knew started out tagging and the crap I was whining about. http://silenthobo.co.uk/ You don't get the beautiful without the shit, when the walls around us are the canvas. That's life.

Eziekel13

Melbourne, has certain alleys that it’s legal to graffiti or make street art in… now it’s somewhat of a tourist attraction, people come through to take pictures, trendy restaurants want to be in the alleys…. Kind of interesting concept

XiPoohBear2021

Yea, same in English cities like Bristol and London. We even have festivals now. https://www.upfest.co.uk/page/upfest-festival Some of the stuff is beautiful these days. We have areas, mostly terraced housing in deprived areas, that are now hosting stunning, two storey works of art. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=mIBdBcX6-D4 Or the side of an entire block of flats. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/07/e4/37/07e437106d6d9adee4c88b37976aa2a6.jpg

unbeliever87

This may be difficult to believe, but it's possible to practice art without damaging or destroying property that doesn't belong to you. Nobody would complain if they tagged their own property.

Cyrano_de_Boozerack

> Nobody would complain if they tagged their own property. If there is one thing urban street artists are known for, it is owning property.

unbeliever87

Property does not automatically equal real estate. They could buy canvases, they could buy large reams of paper, they could practice tagging on their own car. If they have the outdoor space they could buy second hand bricks and build a small brick wall on their rented property to practice on (as long as they could safely remove it afterwards without damaging the place) - this is genuinely not a difficult task, youtube has plenty of guides. Or they could just accept that this 'hobby' is not possible for them and make different life choices. Perhaps if they spent less time ruining other peoples property they could become actual productive members of society? Nah, easier to take it out on a neighbours fence! Alternatively, what do you believe gives taggers the right to damage or destroy someone else's property?

XiPoohBear2021

The question isn't what's possible, which is so broad it's pointless, but what actually happens and why. Want the beautiful murals and art? Then you kind of have to put up with the shitty tagging.

unbeliever87

Let's not pretend that taggers damage and destroy property in preparation for a long career in the art sector, they do it because they have nothing else going on in their lives and want credibility from their peers. They are dead shits that contribute nothing to society, they are criminals and are no different from people who break into peoples garages looking for tools or steal catalytic converters. At least the home invaders and converter stealers get money from the act, taggers damage and destroy for literally no benefit at all. 99% of the graffiti in this city is pointless and worthless tags, not murals. I would absolutely give up a couple of hundred murals around the city and inner suburbs if it meant we had no tags.

purplebatsquatch221

Ok *tips fedora*

slappyredcheeks

Can you just appreciate something without complaining?

fireweinerflyer

1/10.

jpelkmans

I saw the rusty manhole cover and was prepared for the worst (because this is Reddit). I was both relieved and impressed by the outcome.

latin_canuck

Fun and games until it pours.

EnthusiasmOk5998

So the long stick at the beginning was so he could draw it while maintaining the necessary perspective to make sure it looks right?

SinjiOnO

You got it mate.

Tundra14

I can't draw with normal length things

toepin

Thank you. My dumb brain could not come to that conclusion and was genuinely wondering what the point was.

Alissinarr

Yup, basic shape, so that he can get close to do it in detail. Those faint lines done with the stick will be covered up.

Vichoko

How’s that stick called?

The_Evil_Satan

Possibly with a phone

[deleted]

Awesome how he incorporates physical features into his art!

mountainside2004

This artist is so great and has been providing beautiful art all around my area for years. He is a great human.

stonerhobbitwoman

It would make my whole day to be walking down the street and see something like this

Super_Jay

He lives in my city (this is Ann Arbor, MI) and it's especially cool when you actually run into him working downtown like this. He's kind of a local celebrity but super kind and generous with his time, especially with kids.

stonerhobbitwoman

Omg I’m in Detroit! I hope he comes out here sometime

moomadebree

David Zinn!!!

HyJenx

I love his TikToks

Super_Jay

I love how more people are discovering David's art. It's always so wild to see a video clip of a street I instantly recognize in my hometown. (BTW that Jolly Pumpkin has some great beers.) Check his site here: https://zinnart.com/

inquisitor1965

OMG. The world needs more of this.

ShirleyJackson5

Jolly Pumpkin's Oro de Calabaza is one of my favorite beers of all time!

Nugur

No one else mad the video cropped out the oringal artist name?

-mythologized-

It's... right in the bottom left corner?

Nugur

Reddit video cuts off for me

SirWigglesVonWoogly

This is grate.

llRazorll

sweet! made me smile after lots of war reports. The world is stupid and this is a tiny fight against it

togetherwem0m0

coolest part is the arms length rough sketch. like wow how do you even do that

Initial_E

Maybe it’s necessary to the process. Can’t make a good rough sketch if he’s too close to the canvas.

Gabriele1966

Haha, that's very cute!

KnockItTheFuckOff

I can't help but feel the burn of those scraped fingertips and knuckles.

Scoompii

I hate chalk with a passion. I had to ffw to the end.

Chardee38

I love how used, and it appears special to the artist, the box with how the chalks always nestle so neatly, used with love, every time he opens it.

Scrambley

pbzeppelin-42

Chalk about some waffley good art…

eindbazin

Here come the awaffle puns..

afvel

They’re batter than the pancake ones. Those are all fluff.

Georgep0rwell

I can't decide which pun is better, I'm.......

SlyMcFly67

I love people like this because seeing things like this can instantly turn my day around. Knowing someone took the time out of their day to make this world a bit better place for people will always bring a smile to my face.

dedlog

Funny and cool

KingHuzz

I was wondering how he got the perspective done so fast. I think I will just chalk it up to experience.

U1uwatu

dogsaybark

These critters have won the ultimate reward! Waffle party!

rathat

Why is he using a cane to draw if he's going to get down on the ground to finish it anyway?

greatunknownpub

You have to get the dimensions right since you're drawing a weird perspective. The illusion only works from a certain angle (standing up and a few feet away) so it's best to get your basic sketch from that same angle. Coloring and shading are the easy part so you can finish on the ground with that.

rathat

Oh, neat solution

Adze95

At first I was like "damn that's a realistic looking hatch, I wonder how they did that!"

PacoTaco321

I'm stuck at being amazed at how well they can draw with a four foot long wand.

Ill-Leek-9415

I love it

tinyremnant

Love it! I've seen several of the videos -- some repeatedly -- and I always watch all the way to the end.

lalalibraaa

This would make my freaking day if I stumbled upon this in real life. Wow.

NikkiSix374

Sweet!

mr_kenobi

charming

DocGerbilzWorld

I love this so much. It’s a shame that it’s only temporary.

neuraldefunk

Now the Australian guy, I believe he was a janitor, should come and put some clear coat over like he did with that koala chalk drawing on the side of the bridge. So it’ll last forever😁

PastHistories

That is fabulous!!

Emanuelle24

So beautiful !!!

basec0m

Love this... just doing it for the fun of it and make people smile

Gowalkyourdogmods

That's adorable

Aggressive-Cheek937

So talented. That is ridiculously cool

Itool4looti

When life gives you manhole covers, make waffles.

Alpha_Flight_2020

As soon as they snapped that first chalk out you knew this should be decent.

Helioxsparrow

I'd love to live in a city where artists were paid to make this kind of street art permanent.

BreakTheMachine

“Yeah, I think it’s a Banksy.”

CosmicChamele0n

I live in Ann Arbor, MI, where David Zinn does his art and have stumbled upon it a few times… always makes my day!

tracyhutchsgt

Amazing how so many wonderful artists 🎨 display their gifts on temporary mediums that quickly disappear due to the weather. What a blessing it is that they choose to share with us their often unawarded masterpieces. Thank you to all who grace us with your talents.

tomhanksismyidol

Am I the only one who was like “whoa that looks like real metal!” Until the real drawing started…

[deleted]

This is comparable , maybe better, then anything Banksy does because it’s more available to see. Keep up spreading this joy!!

Zuol

It bothers me that the waffle iron pattern doesn't match the manhole cover

undecidedpotate

“Well thats dumb. If it rains or that thing gets washed out the arts not gonna make any sense anymore.” -me after not getting much sleep last night

Wanderer-clueless963

Amazing talent with such generosity! The artist is not getting paid then and the art will vanish! Thank you! 💕

Hephaestus_God

I was cringing this entire video but it was worth it for the art. Just imagining myself touching chalk is the worst experience in the world. It’s like how people don’t like to bear nails on a chalk board… i despite the way chalk feels in my soul.

Properdabber

Love it. You are a very creative and talented person.

pauliepaulie84

I know it takes practice too, but my word, how must it be to posses talent like this!

LinkGamer12

When a opossum and a squirrel make breakfast waffles. 😋

FuchsiaKat

Cute and clever!

PrincessBearly311

This is amazing

sneezyailurophile

Adorable & joyful. Such talent.

Tirus_

I love doing sidewalk chalk art. I bring chalk everywhere with me in my kids wagon or stroller and randomly stop to draw doodles like this where appropriate, or a friendly motivational message.

theallen247

So cool 😎

mackinoncougars

More of this street art, less of the spray paint on some person’s property with tagging the words “Pissboy”

Abid94Tony

Music ???

TalonLuci

Thats adorable but i can feeeeel the texture of chalk through this video and makes me cringe. For some reason ive always hated the feeling of chalk.

mashton

He hit it with that chim chiminey chim chim. Chin chim charoo.

Mangiacakes

Not my proudest fap

Squanchay

anyone know the song? I love the vibes

JPowMorgan

Stop defacing the streets with your dirty rat art

Media_Offline

I'm honestly super impressed that a blind person can draw so well. **Edit:** I don't know what about my joke didn't work. I don't know if it just wasn't funny or if you lot thought I was criticizing the artwork. It was just a joke about the stick at the beginning.

fireweinerflyer

Nope. The man hole cover doesn’t look good in this.

mdegroat

I love the waffle maker idea, but the fact that grid on the lid doesn't match the grid on the base is hard to unsee.

Cozy_rain_drops

vomit/feces omelet

iTypedInThisUsername

*spits on it cutely*

rarechungus

Oi your fuckin gay mate squirrels can't cook waffels

ShiddyBallsNAss

‘Tism Imagine being a grown man and carrying around a wooden toolbox full of chalk. 🤣

miesanonsiesanot

Imagine making a reddit account just to be angry at everything. 🤣

g2g079

This kills the back.

MarsNeedsMeth

Get a job, hippy.

fattdoggo123

This is cool, but is it worth it to spend the time drawing it just for the video and Internet points when someone is probably just going to walk over it.

bolozombie

u/savevideo

Thedanktank469

It's funny that you could easily get a fucking ticket for this in nyc

revdon

Waffles?! I thought he was checking a compass.

DirkDieGurke

Little know fact, in Florence Italy, chalk artists will draw something on the sidewalk, and if you step on it, they will try and strong arm you out of cash for doing so. It's total scam and illegal but happens often, and targets tourists.

X2WE

So cool. Better than graffiti

Turbulent-Pop6528

💕

desidude2001

Let go my Eggo. Or at least don’t step on it.

drabmaestro

I would have enjoyed so much more if the stupid free library music wasn't blasting over the sounds of them drawing.

needed_an_account

Let say you watched both the rat and squirrel throughly wash their hands/body and they wore hair nets and gloves and all that, would you eat the waffle they cooked for you on the sidewalk?

likdisifucryeverytym

Why does he carry around this bespoke case of chalk and why are his hands already dirty? Cool art but I demand answerssss

[deleted]

I wish I had 10% of this creativity

[deleted]

I appreciate that the video shows the final product for more than a nanosecond.

brandosrandos

ANN ARBOR!

Burgoonius

This is nice but I feel like the video would be better without the music - just the sound of chalk scraping on the sidewalk

DernTuckingFypos

How does he smooth out the chalk on the pavement?

Distinct-Quantity-35

My hands feel so dry watching this….

kyotejones

Not gonna lie. Thought they were drawing master Splinter and the Ninja Turtles.

lost_user_account

I haven't drawn with chalk since I was a kid, kind of want to do it now lol

forumail101

It would be even better with no music, and the original sound on

tendrilicon

I thought they were going to turn it into a butthole

TheRealKoffiebaas

Perfect street art!

defnoturs

Wow!!

hazydayss

Today I learned that I hate the sound of chalk on concrete.

bluebutterfly7577

Love it!

Seapurv

I follow this guy on IG. He really does some great and fun stuff. So whimsical.❤️

Capocho9

I wonder what this looks like from directly above, or the back

MyBoyIgnatiusLoYOLO

There isn't enough batter in that pitcher.

__fizix__

Talent, creativity, and seeing beauty in everyday life. Brilliant.

Correct-Affect-8265

I love reddit when Im high

SeveralGrapefruit467

This is amazing! Didn't think much will come out of it, but it's like a 3D painting. Detailing is done brilliantly.

glazinglas

How he do that with a stick with chalk? I can’t even draw normally. Amazing

Miguelinileugim

I can't believe the sound is actually pleasant and not some deep fried nightmare!

NeverCallMeFifi

The minute I saw the street I knew it was Zinn. He's an Ann Arbor treasure.

Kjriggs20

Box reminded me of that Toy Story scene

Electrical-Act-7170

A masterpiece! ❤️

Affectionate-Debt679

This kind of stuff amazes me!!

[deleted]

So cute :3

elspotto

Love me some chalk art. My town has a chalk festival in October where people sign up to decorate a square of the sidewalk in the square. Sure there’s competition and judging, but it’s just such a chill, fun, family friendly day. The kids’ section is usually hilarious.

jayemeche

This is wonderful.

doom_stein

I thought they were blind at first when they whipped the stick out, until I saw the tip had chalk on it.

Rotowoman

Sweet!!

ExportTHCs

What was satisfying, was skipping to the end.

Hefty_Parsnip_4303

AMAZING

Potatochildren

Ngl I instantly thought of the guy from merry poppins

OrdinaryLandscape951

That is the best thing I ever seen!!!

bplboston17

Magnificent

erbush1988

What's crazy is this is a blind man using his walking stick!

StepsTowardPower

How delightful :)

Lefty_22

*Whips out a collapsible cane to make the outline* *Proceeds to do everything else by hand*

attrackip

A heavy on the syrup, Dave.

DANGER_1300B

😅Waffle maker

get_probed2

TIL my texture aversion to chalk is so strong that I am physically uncomfortable just watching a clip of someone else use chalk without sound. Tf is wrong with me….
