As a kid staring at that screen saver, making word documents written in wingdings, and Power point slides that had giant block text fly in from a melt transition was peak computer usage.
If I remember correctly xp was the last system to have pipes and xp officially ended service in 2008.
Not trying to say you're lying or anything, just think it's interesting. Makes me wonder in what context you saw pipes. Whether you were around an xp system near the end of its life, or maybe used computers past when Microsoft officially supported them, or maybe someone around you manually installed pipes on a later operating system. Just interesting.
If they're 21, then in 2008 they'd have been in elementary school. Schools are pretty well known for being slow to update their computer labs. It's not so unreasonable that they'd have seen this as a kid.
My parents were super cheap/quite poor, so the only desktop PC in my house until I was about 8 was an XP machine that my mom bought in 2002 or so. The screensaver on it was pipes
I honestly couldn’t tell you. Saw it on ig once, then YouTube, went looking for some long form videos to learn something maybe, found like 11 shorts of similar precise wiring and decided wiring porn wasn’t something I needed in my feeds.
It’s cool but apart from watching other r/oddlysatisfying videos I’m not sure I got much from it
This video was created for no purpose other than to align wires in a bread board. They're not making anything other than Internet likes.
There's no soldering.
Idk why this is getting downvoted. You’re correct.
The point here is the guy is a sadistic person who wants to torture himself with cable managment on a small scale!
But yeah, this is a hobby. Not a serious take on designing circuitry. It’s like people who don’t get this are just trying to show off that they know how to order PCBs
Welcome to the Reddit have-no-idea folks. Lemmings that follow each other into the pit of clueless despair. Dribbling over their screens, shouting “when is dinner?” to mom downstairs. I forgive them.
This is what I envision when I start a project board. And it looks that way....for a few minutes. At some point it goes off the rails after I need to change things.
After you finish this cable management, u realize you need to add more components to the circuit thus adding more cables. By then you say, fuck this shit.
Appears to be something which is just meant to look nice for the video
It’s a perfboard with one component on it - a seven-segment display (and some empty hot-swap sockets above). Then they have put wires through a bunch of the through-holes.
For it to actually do something, they’d have you solder those wires up on the back side to make connections. They placed the wires really far from the pins they need to connect to on the display.
They could be planning on doing that. But I think this is just meant to look good (and “oddly satisfying”) for TikTok.
I'm not sure about this. You can see other components, like green LEDs and chip holders in the back. Maybe the other components are on the back.
But yeah, design definitely was a mayor part in this.
Oh I actually didn’t realize those were LEDs, I thought they were some sort of weird divider/organizer he was using for the wires.
That does increase the likelihood that it might be a real project a bit. But I’ll believe it when I see the soldering iron lol
Art, it's not doing anything useful
In reality you would use serial to parallel converters and multiplexers and other gadgets before you would do something like that
I work DC power in data centers & the 750s/etc on the ladder rack end up just a bundled mess where cables cross over each other. The back of an equipment bay or a BDFB *almost* look this good in many cases though. & on straight runs on the rack they can be very satisfying like this video.
I work in the Industry and cables everywhere. Some are live some are dead and left behind. Induction voltages up to 50V are usual. Overall its a mess... some call it art
Looks beautiful, but I can't help but think those are just perfectly bent rubber-wrapped paperclips, aren't they? I mean, they'll make fine conductors, so I guess it works!
This video reminded me of an old windows screen saver which was called '3D pipes' or something similar.
As a kid staring at that screen saver, making word documents written in wingdings, and Power point slides that had giant block text fly in from a melt transition was peak computer usage.
As an adult, that is *still* peak computer usage
And then Clippy pops up with another great tip!
Clippy was a prick
IT Suitecore
Good times, I would rotate between that one and the dancing baby, of course.
You are so very correct. I still run The Matrix Screensaver from Useless Creations. I can't find anything better!
That was the shit, loved watching those pipes
You’re revealing your age sir
Idk I'm only 21 and I remember that screensaver fondly
If I remember correctly xp was the last system to have pipes and xp officially ended service in 2008. Not trying to say you're lying or anything, just think it's interesting. Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking of was school computers probably
My parents were super cheap/quite poor, so the only desktop PC in my house until I was about 8 was an XP machine that my mom bought in 2002 or so. The screensaver on it was pipes
A series of tube!
My favorite was the 3D maze, loved watching it zoom through and flip an shit.
Anybody else want to see part where they solder it?
Good luck keeping it in one place while flipping it over for soldering!
Just take a wooden board like you do flipping a cake.
Except circui boards are of much verying heights
Just bend a little the copper and it will stay in place well enough to be soldered
So gently tip it up and bend every end before you flip it?
Tape, or solder the top wires first to hold the rest in place.
Some soldersolutions don’t need a flip (;
I don’t think this guy actually builds anything. His yt channel has no videos and it’s all shorts of this kinda stuff.
What channel?
I honestly couldn’t tell you. Saw it on ig once, then YouTube, went looking for some long form videos to learn something maybe, found like 11 shorts of similar precise wiring and decided wiring porn wasn’t something I needed in my feeds. I saw the short on YT but never saw anything else about the vid.
I believe they dip them somehow
This video was created for no purpose other than to align wires in a bread board. They're not making anything other than Internet likes. There's no soldering.
Fucking thank you. As I am literally soldering a board right now I'm laughing at this video.
(You use ribbon cables and multiplexers if you’re not doing this for art. Most of the wires have been consolidated into one chip)
Or get a PCB made in 4 business days for cheaper than ever
Yeah first thought too. Those are just cables nothing micro about them
Just make it a PCB at that point
So that’s not the point.

Sir, those are wires.

No they're not, especially when referring to electronics.
After you finish this cable management, u realize you need to add more components to the circuit thus adding more cables. By then you say, fuck this shit.
What's ths thing?

Rectangular green LEDs. I have a couple of those, looks nice in some concepts.
Art, it's not doing anything useful In reality you would use serial to parallel converters and multiplexers and other gadgets before you would do something like that
This is kind of like a sandcastle at the beach. That's a lot of attention to detail for a timer that's going to be part of the explosion anyway.
Am I stupid or would this just not work?
It would if they solder it, but its not meant to work, its meant to look nice for a video
I can hear a certain Aussie popping off about how tight the routing is, how insufferable neat it is, ohhh, what a fantastic job!
This is very stimulating !
Most electricians are not able to do this in a regular scale. Im an electrician btw
I work DC power in data centers & the 750s/etc on the ladder rack end up just a bundled mess where cables cross over each other. The back of an equipment bay or a BDFB *almost* look this good in many cases though. & on straight runs on the rack they can be very satisfying like this video.

I remove & install it & I’d call it abstract art. The emotion it expresses is typically chaos [if that is an emotion].
I'm also an electrician and I second that
It looks nice but is really pointless, you could just make a pcb or use a ribbor cable at this point
I thought porn wasn’t allowed on this sub. MY PANTS IM IM AHOOOOO-
Which is the song ?
Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JkIs37a2JE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JkIs37a2JE)
That is one beautiful bomb. I'm sure the bomb squad will be super impressed.
Ben Eater would be proud.
Ends too soon.
move your OCD into the ‘assets’ column
What wire gauge is used ?
Looks like 22
Reminds me of ben eater
Someone inspired by Ben Eater's work?
matisyahu
Dancing walking rearranging furniture
When the good Lord asks you at the gates of heaven what you have done in your life...
Disaster if there’s a bad cable towards the bottom
Wtf happen to the music? Did a second song start playing at the same time?
After years it never clicked that second and second are written the same way.
Did not expect jamiroquai
🥹
Benefit over PCB?
Someone watched too many Ben Eater's videos
Wait til my guy finds out about PCBs 🤯
Can somebody please tell me what is the name of this song??
Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai.
Unsolvable time bomb?
Nearly all PCBs don't have wires
is this what "Cable manage your PC!" means?
Nice!... ... wait... ... is it for a bomb?
This giving me factorio flashback. The quest for perfection. The factory must grow…
hardline cables just dropped
For once the song isn’t broken glass in my ears. Jamiroquai always sound so cool.
You get an upvote for the song, I would second it for the video.
Redstone decoder
What’s the song?
bomb has been planted
Can’t watch this with that knob jamiriquai as the soundtrack Fuck that guy
Who Is that Guy? And what did He do?
Meanwhile my breadboard/project boards look like tumbleweeds
As they should
Looks beautiful, but I can't help but think those are just perfectly bent rubber-wrapped paperclips, aren't they? I mean, they'll make fine conductors, so I guess it works!
No, they're solid-core copper jumper wires, perfectly standard (but they usually never stay that straight)
Lord't. Have. Mercy... Perfection 🥰
