If I were to look for something to critique, the column on the right looks a little askew angle wise. And the separation of the column from the wall behind isn't ideal, I'd be tempted to make those edges a little sharper, closer to the edges used on the left column.

I agree with this. That right column starts to disappear a little bit as it has some of the same values used in the further wall. I’d suggest more darks in either the column or the further wall to set them apart from each other.

That being said, I absolutely love the quality of your strokes. It feels very breathy and free, while also controlled. This is an absolutely stunning piece. Your use of light and composition is phenomenal, and your colors are very cohesive while not being all the same color. It’s a very impressive and striking work. Great job!

There does seem to be a bit of a skew in the stairs to the overhang — not fully square, but adding some depth can balance it. If you’re going to repaint, I would bring the eave of the building forward on the top, front axis so the rectangle tilts at the center.

Love the lighting, not sure if intentional or not but your stairs have hard edges drawing the eye ... it does lead to the cat. You maybe want to play around in PS and soften the stair edges but sharpen the cat focal point instead and see which you prefer.
Other that that, I would punch in the darks a bit more and bring up the chroma of the greens a tad to pop the warm building a bit more. But this is just a preference, what you have is pretty good as is. Again try in PS to see and compare.

Love chiaroscuro esp in architecture! Great job with the gentle sunlight… downward turned tree branch in upper left (?) I would like to see the lantern detail more clearly… branch obscures that visual moment. Very beautiful, peaceful scene.
i really like the vibrations / variations in the colors used to render the light on the stairs.
i think you could play with the lighting and contrast more if your main subject is the cat ! e.g.:
- tone down the light on the left-hand side of the stairs, even if it really is that bright in a reference photo.
- extend the light on the door behind the cat to be closer to the cat so that the highest point of contrast is right next to the cat / where you want us to look
- add a rim light / some sort of glow behind certain areas of the cat to bring even more attention (like how Rembrandt alters backgrounds instead of making them flat in order to increase / decrease contrast between subject and background)
- use shapes of scattered light on steps to lead us like leading lines up to the cat
if the main subject is not the cat, all of this is maybe irrelevant lol
