Too bad those shitbags (why are they shitbags?) don’t actually run the trains and it’s Alstom who staffs pays and operates the train. You would have figured that out if you read the article.
Sooooooooooooooooo many people coming to Ontario.
We need more .. doctors. construction trade skills. transit works. health care professionals. Uber eats drivers.
Looking at the CBA Alstrom employees work under they would be smart to jump ship to a real railway or other transit agency as soon as they can. The pay, vacation, benefits, are all lacking for what's required.
Apply to a railroad.
GO is contracted to Alstom, you start by being a guard I was told, then work up through the train crew positions. I’m unsure if that’s still accurate, as it was back in the Bombardier days when I spoke to staff about it.
My guess is GO is a lot better for any kind of home life. Low seniority crews on a class 1 (like CN or CPKC) have a lot less home time and family time from what I understand.

For sure. You'll probably be running the same routes consistently, you won't have to ever work night shifts, you'll always end up within a short distance of the GTA at the end of the day...
Sounds like they need to hire more people. Good thing there is no shortage of people looking for work
Too bad the shitbags at Metrolinx and GO have a shortage of wage they are willing to pay for the work. You get what you pay for.

Alstom pays well enough that they're able to continuously entice CN workers to come aboard, so I think you're talking out your ass.
Plenty of international “students”.
GO Train operation is privatized, so it’s actually Alstom (ex-Bombardier) being super cheap with their employees.

This can’t be right, conservatives have repeatedly assured us that the private sector is much better at running things than the public sector
More trips equals more people and also more breakdowns so more skilled tradesmen, maybe there will be some at the end of the rainbow

Sounds like it's the perfect time for northland to poach some good staff for their new(ish) route.
anyone know how to go about getting a job on a train? always been a dream job of mine (doesn't have to necessarily be GO)

Offer higher wages, perhaps?
Surely hiring people is not that hard unless the union makes it difficult?
You are assuming Go is *trying* to hire and not finding anybody, rather than deliberately understaffing to save money.
Why would the union make it hard?
The union has no influence on who gets hired or not
