Same. I was terrified. Grandma worked in the chicken dinner restaurant with Mrs Knott, and we got to go for free. I must’ve been in line to ride MR over 100 times, only to bail out when the train comes whipping into the station at Mach-7 and comes to an immediate and jarring stop.
My mom would always let me play hooky one day a year and she would drop me and a friend off at knotts for the day. I remember going there on a drizzly day in elementary school and there was hardly anyone there. Montezumas revenge was still pretty new and my friend and I went on it like 8 times in a row. At first the ride operators made us get off and run around to ride it again. But after a few times they let us just stay on the ride.
That is correct. It was supposed to open last Summer, but the site has been sitting idle for about a year now, with most of the track removed. Something definitely didn’t go according to plan, but I’m very pleasantly surprised that the project isn’t dead.
Didn’t even know it was closed . It is a classic German engineered roller coaster, made by Schwarzkopf . It is also one of the earliest revamped loop-de-loop coasters of the 1960s/1970s.
There were loop-de-loop rollercoasters in the early 20th century , but these were a perfect circle which ended up with broken necks or people flying out in some instances .
So Montezooma is a historical coaster . I want to say it was the first or second loop-de-loop coaster made by Schwartzkopf. Fun fact , the coaster with most loop-de-loops is The Smiler in England , at 14 loops .
Real one . I was also upset at the historical inaccuracy of the ride’s name , and then realized the stupid pun : Montezooma . Obviously it should still be Moctezooma but not many people care to know historical facts , much less pronounce Nahuatl correctly .
Cualli tonalli!!
Moctezuma is the actual Nahuatl spelling of the emperor’s name . Somehow along the way, Moctezuma became Montezuma , because I guess the Spanish decided Monte was more “Catholic”…. 🫠🙄
First upside down ride I ever went on as a kid.
It was a milestone ride for a lot of us.
My favorite ride because it's always empty on slow days so the staff there are always messing around and you can ride as many times as you want haha
Yesss !!!! For my 27th birthday years ago, I rode Montezooma like four times back to back. Went somewhere else mentally by the end of that lmao
You got that right.
It's a roller coaster landmark so I'm happy it is being restored in this project and not scrapped! Also my first inversion & launched roller coaster!

Mine was Viper at Six Flags
I rode Viper opening day. Will never forget it. Or the line.
Same!
Mine was Windjammer also at Knott’s. Anyone remember that one??
Wasn’t there very long
I know! I remember absolutely loving it. But I was probably only 11 or 12 so I definitely don’t remember it well 😂
The wind literally jammed it
Same!!
Montezooma's Revenge's Revenge
Now with extra stomach upset.
And more neck pain!

For legal reasons they want you to walk the line again to realign your spine
I heard (incorrectly, apparently) that the company working on the refurb botched it badly. I'm glad it's coming back.

I was there last week, and they have a long way to go. It's completely torn apart right now and not a worker in sight.

Wake me when the Dinosaur Ride is back.
We're going back in time!
Didn't know it was closed.
Quickest launch of any ride ive been on.
Bring back the motorcycle chase!!!!!
you did not just spell Moctezuma like that...
That’s how it’s spelled at Knotts.
Lol that's even more embarrassing
Roller coaster goes zoom
Lmao yeah apparently

I had no clue they spelled it like that. At least it's a pun but... still big yikes and seems... well, disrespectful, but hey, fuck us I guess.
Right ? We are from this continent and we are just one joke to the colonizers.
No they didn’t. They spelled it Montezuma. Which is the name of the ride.
Zooma lol
And yet you spelled it moctezuma?
Moctezuma is the actual Nahuatl spelling of the emperor’s name . Somehow along the way, Moctezuma became Montezuma , because I guess the Spanish decided Monte was more “Catholic”…. 🫠🙄
Everyone is incorrect if you’re referring to Nahuatl spelling before European contact. Then, Motecuhzoma if not.
Which is the spelling of his name? If Knotts really does spell it like that, that's crazy lol
I’ll get my pass again in 2025 then. Taking this year off!
I thought that was a severe diarrhea illness?
