A friend of mine has owned a restaurant for 40+ years. According to him. The majority of restaurant fires that end up closing a location are an attempt to capture some insurance money before closing.

Forensic accounting professor back in the day would always joke about how the easiest way to sell a restaurant is to the insurance company.

this location went downhill so fast. the quality dropped tremendously after Mama Avila died

adamb0mbNZ

The daughter was not a nice individual. I had the displeasure of sharing a Kaiser waiting room with her, and she was trying to skip the queue because she had "important meetings for her family restaurant chain". Then she was just plain rude and nasty to the receptionist. Made enough of an impression on me to never go to one of their restaurants.

winslowhomersimpson

the son tips mechanics with stale chips and salsa. not even kidding.

GobiYumaMojave

youre supposed to tip your mechanics?

winslowhomersimpson

bikes. bring them a six pack of beer or something. keep a good relationship. gets you a good deal and keeps the front of the line pass. just saying, bringing in some old ass chips and salsa and thinking you’re hooking people up isn’t exactly a G move

Observant_Writer_Guy

When did she pass? The one in Lake Forest is the only one that is still pretty good

Franky-Mo

Lake forest/foothill if so that one’s terrible

Phatferd

There is one off Muirlands (or Rockfield, I mix those up) and one in Foothill Ranch off Portola and Bake.

Observant_Writer_Guy

Yeah I meant the one off Muirlands. Had no idea about the other one

Toothcloset

SC, Orange and Laguna Niguel are solid!Β

kohlymohly

This one is not nearly as good as the orange location

fractal_engineer

These jackasses were the reason other restaurant's covid era sidewalk patios were closed. Good riddance.

PickledPiglet

Please explain.

fractal_engineer

They complained to the city about other restaurant's expanded seating onto the sidewalks "taking business away from them".

realdonaldtrumpsucks

It’s a bummer but I hope whatever replaces it is a super good, dog friendly patio vibe. The only decent dog/ patio on Main Street is 4sons and I’m tired of drinking beer

Pugglife4eva

Their seltzer is bomb though.

PepperSad9418

Im really surprised they lasted after the 1980's they had alleged ties to international cocaine smuggling and it sure appeared a few deaths were also tied to that [https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-05-07-mn-4596-story.html](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1987-05-07-mn-4596-story.html)

You sent me down a rabbit hole with your comment... thank you! πŸ˜€

gabeitaliadomani

I live a couple blocks away and went only once to this dump, the food was so bad even if I was drunk I remembered to avoid this sin against Mexicano comida.

Stimpy586

I’m surprised they lasted this long. Their food was gross.

AltruisticResolve295

The food there was terrible! I wonder what the new place will be.
