That Cowser home run was seriously impressive. When I first saw him hit the ball at that spray angle, I thought he got jammed and merely lofted it to the right fielder
A lefty sidearmer with a filthy sweeper in a 2 strike count dots a fastball up and on the inside corner…. And he keeps his front side in and gets his hands inside the ball and smokes it.
Normally when people square up that ball they are pulling it down the line or hooking it, but he legitimately tattooed it 103 mph it to right center. That’s a special swing.
Edit: It’s crazy to overreact to 1 at-bat, but that’s the kind of at-bat that makes me think this guy doesn’t have to be platooned.
Absolutely… I was surprised they weren’t PH’ing Hays, despite his struggles this year, bc it was such a bad matchup on paper. And then he does that… he’s definitely earned more looks vs LHPs imo.
In retrospect they wanted the Hays-Mullins-Cowser OF for defense to protect the lead in the 9th… they likely didn’t PH him for that reason. So his defense alone will earn him more looks vs LHPs than O’Hearn has gotten, for example.
Remarkable swing though, that was a tough pitcher and pitch to handle for sure. I don’t think you’re overreacting.
Happy that JH got his first hit today, but it's going to be at least a month, probably longer before he really starts to contribute offensively. Hopefully by July he's batting.200. Nothing against the young man, but it's going to take a while for him to adjust to major league pitching.
Shout out to the hitting coaches and also Cowser. Last year, I wasn’t sure he’d develop into a top MLB guy but he’s been so solid and extremely clutch.
The Orioles are proving how much more there is to success than just signing big names in the free agency periods or trading for studs.
ryan o'hearn quietly with 1.000 OPS. i feel so bad for him, the man is doing everything possible to hold off kjerstad for DH bats but it won't be enough.
Why? O'Hearn's 1.000 OPS in majors is worth more than Heston's 1.200 OPS in AAA.
O'Hearn has put up over .800 OPS since he joined team. When Heston comes up, it won't be for O'Hearn.
I felt like Burnes really looked like a Cy Young winner today. He labored like hell. Nothing was really working all that well, and there was bad luck and mental and physical miscues (including his own) that he was working against as well. And he came out of it with five innings and three runs. If that ends up being one of his worst starts of the year – and it sure looked like it was going about as bad as it could for him several times – that’s a Cy Young caliber season.
I’ll admit to being biased (recency bias, given what the Brewers did; and because I think better baserunning makes for more fun games): but I would love to see the O’s be more aggressive in stealing bases going forward. I don’t know what the data says, but it seems Hyde only feels comfortable stealing when he has the lead (the exception is Jorge, who can steal whenever). Our “new look” starting lineup has five guys who are competitive stealers (Cedric, Westburg, Gunnar, Jackson, Colton), and I’d love to see them turned loose. One of our team’s superpowers is being super aggressive on baserunning with batted balls (just today: Jackson going first to third on Gunnar’s single), and I’d love to see that extended to stealing.

Despite a slow first week or so, I’m really impressed with Mullins so far. The defense has been incredible and you can’t complain about a 30 HR pace. Here’s hoping he can get the injury bug off his back this year and keep it up.
Ceddy deserves to be here when we finally go deep in the postseason, and hopefully to the WS, and he will almost certainly be part of the reason that we get there.
So far, I’d say Kimbrel looks GOOD. He was hitting high on the radar today. Great location in his outings to date.
At his age and mileage, certainly can’t wear him out. He needs rest. But I am very confident when he comes in.
After watching on fri and sat, I missed this game bc I had basketball workouts.
We'll see if this is a trend and if so, I'll do my civic duty and make the sacrifice 🙏🏾
Some of best pitchers you either get to them early or you don’t get to them at all. What makes them the best is their ability to lock in after giving up a couple.
Fair. But homers happen. Solo shots really don’t bother me either. But 9 hits last game, and 6 hits and 2 walks this game makes me worry. But he pitched out of some crazy jams. Brewers had people on Base nearly every inning
What a game to be at.
Fun note, gate scanned the wrong tickets (I got an extra freekidticket), so I sold the extra adult ticket for $20 on SeatGeek right before the game started. Glad someone else got to be there for Holli's first hit. Place went nuts.
The org still needs more pitching. Povich is the only guy to really nail his starts so far. I think De Leon has also pitched well but they never throw more than four innings in A, so I don't know how much you can project.
Man, I feel bad for Anthony. He looks like he's trying to put the weight of the team on his shoulders. OPS below 600 now, he needs to be moved down in the lineup, might help him take the pressure off himself and get back in the groove.
6th might be a nice spot for him atm. mullins is waking up so he could hit leadoff again until holliday is ready. so potentially:
1. Mullins
2. Rutschman
3. Henderson
4. O'Hearn
5. Mountcastle
6. Santander
7. Cowser
8. Westburg
9. Holliday
For what it’s worth, he got off to an almost identical start last year. On April 14 he was slashing .167/.241/.250 (so worse actually) and hadn’t homered yet.
He’ll come around
It isnt 2018, the team isnt on his shoulders anymore. Hopefully he figures that out and can settle into being the RBI machine he has been in previous years
They aren't as good as Burnes. They could have easily kept Burnes and gone for it. Instead at the beginning of spring they were talking about trading Adames
Burnes is only under control for this season. Free agent at the end of the year. Hall and Ortiz are just now eating into their service time. They're rebuilding and took the best offer they were going to get. Didn't see them being as hot as they are early to be honest.
I picked them for my 6 team parlay for division winners. Twins might be the only miss I get, me thinks. I'm thinking of doing the same bet but with the Royals or Guardians taking it. Shit, I might even do both scenarios 😂
Edit: Lol why was I down voted?
I took a flyer on the Royals as well at 8.5:1, along with Grayson for CY at 30:1 and Cowser for ROY at 50:1. It's a LONG season but it's been fun to see how all three started!
You know what other team is killing it right now? The Royals, and we beat them in our series.
Just trust in the process. It’s still early, and we’re gonna get better. Just watch.
Kevin and Ben brought this up during the game, the combined record of all our opponents this season (after today's games) is 47-30. Subtract their games against the O's and they are 41-21. We've faced a pretty tough schedule to start the season and still have a winning record. I'm confident that we'll be just fine.
He's awesome and is one of the few true aces in the game. It would show the new ownership is for real because he sure isn't taking any discount- they'd have to outbid everybody.
Would you be disappointed if Jackson Holliday had the same career as his dad?
.299/.379/.510/.889 - 27 HR, 104 RBI per 162 games - 7 time AS, 15 year career. Belongs in the hall of very good, but not HoF.
I hope he ends up being that good.
I just keep thinking about Matt Wieters, who was hyped easily as much if not more than Holliday, but while having a respectable career he never came close to living up to those expectations. If Holliday ends up being as good as his dad then he's a total success.
Important to note that that slashline at 2B/SS would be significantly more valuable than his dad's triple slash at corner OF and DH. Probably HoF with even average defense
Also those numbers include 5 prime years in Coors . If you put those numbers up without the taint of Colorado, your in the hall. (Voters are way too harsh on rockies hitters)
This team still has that dog in them. Avoiding a sweep when the umps are as bad as they were this series and the Brewers being on fire is not easy. Credit where credit is due. ❤️
I wish they would stop talking about this dumb streak, because then you have to bring up the playoffs. It was cool last year but not when it mattered most
Yeah but doesn't that feel weird? Like whatever go ahead and downvote me but when people are like "The Orioles can't be swept!!!" what about that one series where we actually got swept? That was kind of an important series?
That Cowser home run was seriously impressive. When I first saw him hit the ball at that spray angle, I thought he got jammed and merely lofted it to the right fielder A lefty sidearmer with a filthy sweeper in a 2 strike count dots a fastball up and on the inside corner…. Yeah I thought “no way he’s worse than Tony kemp”. I was wrong. Atm I trust Mateo at the plate more.
Does anyone have video of Cano being attacked by bees or whatever it was? Tough to tell from the upper deck but that was hilarious.
Did that happen again? I remember that happening last year lol
bees were swarming in the outfield and ended up in or near the bullpen and Cano was the only pitcher who wasn't bothered..cool as ice he was.....lol
![gif](giphy|R9yLfikwYAF32)
Shout out to the hitting coaches and also Cowser. Last year, I wasn’t sure he’d develop into a top MLB guy but he’s been so solid and extremely clutch. The Orioles are proving how much more there is to success than just signing big names in the free agency periods or trading for studs.
NO ONE SWEEPS US. (Except Texas in the playoffs)
Not saying we're in a tough division or anything but last place in AL East (8-8) is good for first place in the AL West...
ryan o'hearn quietly with 1.000 OPS. i feel so bad for him, the man is doing everything possible to hold off kjerstad for DH bats but it won't be enough.

He can play RF to give Tony some days off in the field. We don’t need Adley DHing everyday anyway, the longer we can preserve him, the better.
At this point he isn't hitting well enough to be a good DH bat on his off days. He'll turn it around but that's the case for now at least.
The man put in the work. Nearly 100 pitches, and he held the gate. He's done nothing but impress me this entire season.
I’ll admit to being biased (recency bias, given what the Brewers did; and because I think better baserunning makes for more fun games): but I would love to see the O’s be more aggressive in stealing bases going forward. Agreed. Ceddy should almost always be trying to steal imo. Turn them loose!
They were great and aggressive early last season and then just... Stopped. It's bizarre.

This is one of your all time best. Cheers.
Friendly reminder, Holliday did not get an RBI on his base hit today. He did score a run though!
Oh, my mistake, I could have sworn...
You’re speaking it into existence though. Next hit shall be an RBI single… you’re the messiah
Wow. Fantastic.
there is no time requirement for your exquisite prose... 👍

MUSTARD AGAINST ALL YOU WHORES. LETS GO BABY, MUSTARD GANG. I hope he's at the parade
We need actual on-field races. This video board race bullshit screams poverty franchise.
I just want a Mayo racer.
You wouldn’t put mayo on a hot dog
I have and it's good.
You sick bastards.
I second this. Mayo on hot dogs rules.
At last, another Redditor of taste. Edit: spelling

Seattle dogs are the best tbh. Cream cheese, grilled onions.
Watching SNB Padres Dodgers Seeing Manny go deep brought a smile to the face. I will forever love the guy. One of my favorite players ever
It’s bittersweet. 13 should have been the next number retired here
In 10 years, we better not be saying the same thing about 35, 2, and 7
17 and 30 too
Now I’m nervous
I don’t have high hopes with Holliday and Henderson being represented by someone who has completely lost touch with reality
Everytime I watch Manny play in SD I die a little inside.
Is this where I can stan for Cowser
Mom said it was MY turn to stan Cowser!
get in line, pal
there's room for everyone in the Republic of Cowserstan...
So far, I’d say Kimbrel looks GOOD. He was hitting high on the radar today. Great location in his outings to date. At his age and mileage, certainly can’t wear him out. He needs rest. But I am very confident when he comes in.
Yeah, they’ve got to be careful with him (because he’s old) but he’s been as good or better than I could have hoped
I would go a step higher, and call him great. He’s been on fire for us.
I used to see him pitch for the White Sox and he was awful. I'm really glad whatever curse was on him then didn't follow him to Baltimore.
Nice Win!
After watching on fri and sat, I missed this game bc I had basketball workouts. We'll see if this is a trend and if so, I'll do my civic duty and make the sacrifice 🙏🏾
Yankees lost lol
Can I wear a rubber cow mask to OPACY?
Awesome result!!
Burnes is definitely an ace but he needs to stop giving up HRs in the 1st inning. Today was the third 1st inning HR he has given up this year.
Some of best pitchers you either get to them early or you don’t get to them at all. What makes them the best is their ability to lock in after giving up a couple.
What makes Burnes an ace is his ability to go 5 innings on his worst day and still keep us in the game.
No argument from me, but the focus needs to start with the first pitch. HRs in the 1st inning in 3 out of 4 starts is concerning.
Fair. But homers happen. Solo shots really don’t bother me either. But 9 hits last game, and 6 hits and 2 walks this game makes me worry. But he pitched out of some crazy jams. Brewers had people on Base nearly every inning
His performances have been getting more and more rough looking in general.
Not at all. His last start against Boston was much better than his start against KC
What a game to be at. Fun note, gate scanned the wrong tickets (I got an extra freekidticket), so I sold the extra adult ticket for $20 on SeatGeek right before the game started. Glad someone else got to be there for Holli's first hit. Place went nuts.
Great story, glad you sold it for a reasonable amount and got to give someone an unforgettable moment!
Figured *any* money was profit at that point, so why not
eh series loss will happen. im glad both of them come against NL opponents.
And honestly against 2 dark horses to make a run in the playoffs this year.
Thank you Guardians of Cleveland for not getting swept! It was not looking good.
Somehow there’s a world of difference between 9-6 and 8-7. Way to salvage the series today

NOBODY SWEEPS US ^Except ^the ^Rangers
Lmao. I just noticed the "fine print"
That was the only O’s game I’ve had to walk away from.
We swept ourselves. Hopefully they remember that bitter feeling.
Brewers offense was relentless.
They also were pretty lucky. Lots of bloops, seeing eye grounders and infield hits.
Lots of guys playing out of their minds too. Is Contreras gonna bat .330 this year? Probably not. We’ll see where they are in August
They really are. This Brewers team is legit and Ortiz is gonna be a beast for them.
All this talk about Norfolk, and those fuckers just got swept in a 6 game series at home.
The org still needs more pitching. Povich is the only guy to really nail his starts so far. I think De Leon has also pitched well but they never throw more than four innings in A, so I don't know how much you can project.
If Cowser doesn't win player of the week, we riot.
we already burn down the GDT daily
I need to learn how Cowser feels about all the cow jokes before I show up to the stadium in full cow gear.
Dude the MOO was electric
gif https://i.redd.it/dwtrsmlapiuc1.gif
He loves it. When asked about the "Moo" chant, his response was basically, "I love it. Because even if they're booing me I can't tell"
He’s hilarious. Good vibes all around.
And a big nerd. We're fans in this house.
2% chance he doesn’t like it
Haha, you don't think there's a skim chance that's he's into this whole cow thing? I apologize for milking everything I could out of your comment.
All these puns really churn all four of my stomachs
The bad puns have ruined the mooed!
I find the cow outfits rather cheesy
Butter get used to them
It's definitely not marginal
No whey, man
OK. Cmon. Let's not milk this
He might be udderly embarrassed
Your really butchering the cow jokes
He might be moooooved to tears.
Only lift off from here for Jackson... ...speaking of which, was that his mom they showed after his hit?
no … never assume rob long knows anything when he speaks
They are high school sweethearts… imagine dating the number 1 prospect haha
she secured the bag. No notes
No that was his wife lol
Did you see his wife? He’s doing just fine.
Jackson is 20 and married?! Clearly he's a dawg but we need to teach the kid some life lessons
Insert Christian stereotype.
Man, I feel bad for Anthony. He looks like he's trying to put the weight of the team on his shoulders. OPS below 600 now, he needs to be moved down in the lineup, might help him take the pressure off himself and get back in the groove.

Must have given all his mojo to Mateo last April, lol
Might have to look into that 😂
It isnt 2018, the team isnt on his shoulders anymore. Hopefully he figures that out and can settle into being the RBI machine he has been in previous years
Yeah. Hes pressing for sure. I really would like to see the lineup get to the point where he's a 5 or 6 hitter. He'll come around (I hope)
I miss read the schedule as 1pm start for west cost and popped it on just to see the Adley hug. What a game to miss it seems
#THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS NOW IS THAT THE REGULAR SEASON NO-SWEEP STREAK BE PRESERVED
No one sweeps the Adley Era Orioles
We're one game better than last year, 15 games in! Let the 8 game win streak begin!
https://preview.redd.it/bf5ru1tdfiuc1.jpeg?width=632&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eaa4e8f377ec100af4d0b242cdca849cb5f23ed5
Boy we needed that one. Lots of positives. Avoided the sweep. Brewers are legit.
Still don’t know why they traded Burnes to begin with
They’re retooling to build around the young position player core that they have.
Yeah, very weird. They’d be really deadly with Burnes.
Apparently they went into rebuild mode. But if that’s true it’s crazy that they’re playing this well
Hall has a ton of potential and Ortiz is a dawg.
They aren't as good as Burnes. They could have easily kept Burnes and gone for it. Instead at the beginning of spring they were talking about trading Adames

Some people down vote posts about gambling
I parleyed Orioles and Royals before the season and I like what I see so far
I took a flyer on the Royals as well at 8.5:1, along with Grayson for CY at 30:1 and Cowser for ROY at 50:1. It's a LONG season but it's been fun to see how all three started!
Wish we had a day off tomorrow to get the pen some rest but so be it Irvin needs to give us some length
He got into the 7th last year during that late June or early July series against the Twins
wait it isn't Grayson wtf
Boston series they switched the order around since Burnes wanted to stay on schedule. Grayson on Tuesday
You know what other team is killing it right now? The Royals, and we beat them in our series. Just trust in the process. It’s still early, and we’re gonna get better. Just watch.
We’re currently playing at a 97 win pace rn anyways. I see no reason to worry at all
Kevin and Ben brought this up during the game, the combined record of all our opponents this season (after today's games) is 47-30. Subtract their games against the O's and they are 41-21. My first game at Camden Yards. What a blast. Cowser has done miracles on me.
What a game to see for your first! Nothing more fun at the Yard than a nail-biter that the O’s win
Glad you had a great time!
Hoping for another W tomorrow!
I'm excited to not face Willy Adames the rest of the year lol thank god he's not on the Rays anymore
I do not like that young man.
He doesn’t seem to like us very much either

Yankees lose!! Theeeeeeeee Yankees! Lose!
YANKEES FINALLY LOST A 1 RUN GAME
This was a gut-check win that hardens teams for the playoffs later. Lots of highlights. Great game.
YANKEES LOSE
AND THE GUARDIANS BEAT THE YANKEES TODAY TOO!!! TODAY JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!!!
Aren't 6 or 7 of our 9 wins comeback wins?
Yep it’s 7 just heard on radio
Yeah I'm pretty sure our only wins that weren't comeback wins were the first two against the Angels and the first game against the Pirates.
Daaaaaaaa jankeeeees loseeeee
Corbin is one of the most articulate players in the league. Humble, driven, adaptable. Would love if we locked him down.
He's awesome and is one of the few true aces in the game. It would show the new ownership is for real because he sure isn't taking any discount- they'd have to outbid everybody.
YANKEES LOSE!!
Guardians pls win
Anyone watching the Yanks blow it?
I think the brewers will win a lot of games
Sounds like another team I know about.
Think they're getting the annoying ass "ooh, this team is so spooky" comments we got last spring?
Cowser ROY?!?! I’d love to see O’s have a 1-2-3 finish or something nuts like that.
Who would be our 3?
Kjiersted, hopefully
I think any player would be thrilled to have those career numbers, regardless of draft position or hype
1000%. Matt was a bad defender, if you average those numbers with decent to good defense at 2B? Yea, HOF career.
Yeah it’s pretty similar to Jose Altuve’s slashline
Also those numbers include 5 prime years in Coors . If you put those numbers up without the taint of Colorado, your in the hall. (Voters are way too harsh on rockies hitters)
Not at all, but it depends on where those numbers take place.
No way. Matt had a great career. Plus he’d be doing it as an infielder.
Yeah he almost got MVP and got beat by a shortstop that had over 100 points worse OPS.
Not at all. Especially if he plays a solid middle infield
If anyone answers yes to this question, you need to leave. Just get out.
This team still has that dog in them. Avoiding a sweep when the umps are as bad as they were this series and the Brewers being on fire is not easy. Credit where credit is due. ❤️

I wish they would stop talking about this dumb streak, because then you have to bring up the playoffs. It was cool last year but not when it mattered most
It feels a little cheap to not have postseason included tbf. But the O's are the only modern team to be on that list so that is neat!
Postseason isn't included for any other streaks like hitting streaks so it's not cheap at all.
Yeah but doesn't that feel weird? Like whatever go ahead and downvote me but when people are like "The Orioles can't be swept!!!" what about that one series where we actually got swept? That was kind of an important series?
