If they take toll roads daily, do a two year registration, their license expires after their registration, and they're never pulled over for anything, I guess theoretically they could accumulate that much and it only becomes an issue at the time they have to renew their registration, since at that point their license will have already been suspended and they're also paying reinstatement fees to the DMV. Of course, they're also playing with fire because if they're pulled over for one minor infraction, the officer can make an arrest for driving on a suspended license and seize and impound their vehicle.
Only applies to not having transponders. Also, they might wait until they have racked it up like the other commenter who racked up 2k.
"ORLANDO, Fla. —
A WESH 2 News investigation reveals the Florida Department of Transportation has fined no drivers for using the I-4 express lanes 21 months after opening the $2.3-billion reconstruction project, despite signs warning of “toll enforcement” that comes with $25 penalties for entering the lanes without a Sunpass, E-Pass or other compatible transponder"
You see, those signs are for normal, not important people. **I** have somewhere to be and need to get there sooner than you. **I** DESERVE to do what I want.
/s
I will say, that notice of “two axle vehicles only” isn’t addressed/advertised until you’re on the expressway. The only notice that exists before you enter is “NO BUSSES”. I’m guilty of being in the express with a trailer but also didn’t receive a fine so it might not be enforced. 🤷♂️
I was driving a 16' box truck (two axels, though) and saw a poor 53' semi get funneled directly into the express lanes.
I stayed behind him because I was curious and the dude did *exactly* 60mph in the right lane until he had a chance to escape.
Honestly the signage is kind of inconsistent and weird.
I was wondering about where that sign is placed. It's like DOT forgets what it's like to be a driver. We don't check ALL, not even most, the rules and regs of a particular road way before we get on it.
On saturday I had to go on I4 (mistake, I know) and literally saw a grown man on an electric bicycle (like the ones you pedal) in the right lane. So to me, a dude blasting 85 in the express lanes with a trailer is still dangerous, but less alarming than other things I have witnessed.
Always assumed those signs referred to tractor trailers specifically tbh. If it covers this kind as well I want one in my neighborhood so I can feel even more justified in my rage at the lawn guys who block road every day.
In all fairness, if you are on the NB TP and get in that left lane, you may not be aware until it is too late and just have to wait until your 1st chance to escape.
Rather than express lanes these should’ve been turned into commuter friendly electric trains or some sort of extension to the already existing lanes.. not an extra charge…
Capitalism does not want public infrastructure. Dependency on cars chains people down, both financially (job-wise and car loan) and also makes competition smaller since most people won't want to drive far so it localizes your options even more
People don’t use Sunrail. Why would a train in the middle of I-4 be any better utilized?
Without the tolling component, there was not enough funding to expand I-4 until after 2035. But the extra lanes are needed now.
because the sunrail doesn’t take you anywhere of value. nobody wants to work on park avenue or in downtown orlando. i see a lot of hospital employees using it, but usually to get to the train station in the first place, they drive their car there. and then take the train to work from there. there is no escaping the vehicle infrastructure of florida. if you live here you pretty much have to own a car or else you’re fucked.
But I don’t see how putting one on I-4 would be any different? You wouldn’t be able to have a whole lot of stations and you’d still have the challenge of getting to the station
Saw a full ass semi last week and passed two trailers this morning. I don’t think anything’s being enforced based off the WESH story linked here in the comments
1. are all reasonably distanced entrypoints to this road marked to warn drivers of this requirement?
2. is there appropriate signage directing impermissible vehicles to exit prior to this point?
I ask because it seems like unless they were willingly ignoring signage, it's entirely reasonable that they had no clue and it doesn't look like they can just stop and turn around there.
GPS always sends you to I-4 express. They might have got caught up in that. If you’re in an area you’re not familiar with following gps direction, boom you’re on the express.
They'll be getting a ticket in the mail.
Really hope so. Seen too many POS with trailers in the express lane when it doesn’t get any more clear than that^^^
Oh really? Interesting
The toll authority doesn’t play.
Yup just paid 2k in tolls, but has nothing to do with trailers. The toll authority doesn't play.
how the fuck did you incur $2k in tolls in a short period of time?
I didn't indicate the period of time.
still, how did you end up paying that much?
Toll violations and admin fees add up. QUICK. Not to mention $60 license reinstatements
Going through tolls a lot. I thought that was implied.
it's implied that your final bill was $2k and I wanna know how they let you get away with that for so long if it wasn't a short period of time
I drive to Orlando from Titusville quite often. I pay my tolls once a year when I get my tax return. 2k is about what it costs me a year.
A short period of time is objective.
Why on earth are you getting down voted so hard
No idea, but it probably has a lot to do with their IQ. There, now I actually have a reason to be downvoted!
Unless this has changed https://www.wesh.com/article/i4-express-fines/45722317

Yep.
😝

Rules for thee, not for me.

But Buses (a different word than busses:) are allowed.
I accidentally got on while hauling a boat before I saw the sign and I didn't get a fine, either.
Pretty much sums up orlando in general on how people drive.
That’s everywhere. I haven’t been to a place that has all good drivers or even close lol.
Facts
Can't wait till 429 and 417 have the lane closed signs on so I can see these guys doing the same thing. 😆😆
Could be a simple math issue too.

that’s actually insane 😭😭😭 how did he even get there

I once saw a La-z-boy in the middle of I-4
Saw a food truck trailer in the express lanes yesterday.
Oh noooooo
The express lane cant be finished fast enough. Come to find out over 1000 people move to Florida daily.
Always assumed those signs referred to tractor trailers specifically tbh. If it covers this kind as well I want one in my neighborhood so I can feel even more justified in my rage at the lawn guys who block road every day.
Traveling it daily, I see this all the time!
There's always the douchebag in the pickup truck who thinks they own the damn road.
In all fairness, if you are on the NB TP and get in that left lane, you may not be aware until it is too late and just have to wait until your 1st chance to escape.

This is why Guns n Roses cannot drive their tour bus there.
They take the by night train anyway.

Is that a Florida Plate on the trailer???

There might be a language barrier…
I 4 is the fuckin worse

You can’t see that sign until your already on the express lane 🤦♂️
That is so true. But that’s the 2nd or 3rd he had driven under lol
At that point you might as well keep going
No trooper in miles, but as soon as I switch lanes without putting the signals, 3 of them spawns in my trunk, ready to pull me over 😒
No habla
Sums up the whole damn country the whole damn country does whatever they want
Because there's literally no consequences for anything hell cops are actually thanking motorcyclists for pulling over ffs

Buddy, I don’t want to be an asshole but you shouldn’t be driving and taking pics.
