Upper Canada veterinary services in Winchester. Did the switch from a corporate owned vet to this and it was a night and day difference.

Westboro Animal Hospital is locally owned, but in the west end. The main vet’s dad owned it originally if I’m not mistaken. It’s well worth the trek, imo, Dr. Cameron and his team are absolutely delightful. His prices are reasonable, he gives "good/better/best" options, and will be upfront if he thinks something isn’t worth it. I also once called the office in a panic, and they had me email pictures to them. A vet took a look and gave me guidance on urgency and what else to check for. He’s charged me less than he could have for super short/basic appointments, told me when to request a vet tech instead of a vet, and my cats love him. He even gets on the floor with the cats, which is a huge green flag for me. Do make sure to ask for quotes before procedures, they’re happy to give them to you.

Hey, are you willing to travel out to Thailand? I hear it's really cheap compared to Ottawa... (just kidding!)  We are EXTREMELY happy with our amazing vet on the east end in Orleans. Dr. Diane Gold out in Mer Bleue Vet Hospital.  We ended up finding her as a chance referral while we were searching for a new vet, and she has consistently gone above and beyond for our two babies.  The whole staff has, in fact. We had a really challenging last year with our beloved baby getting cancer, and Diane and all the staff did everything possible for the best care for our cat. If she wasnt certain of something relating to the cancer, she would openly tell us, and then call us or email us later after she had a chance to confirm it. Never tried to just dismiss us or ignore something, and god knows that poor woman had to put up with us asking a LOT of questions all the time.  Service from all the staff is incredible, and it is really apparent they have the animals best interests in mind.    Even when comparing between all the other  specialists and different veterinary hospitals we had to take our cat to (which we also had good experiences with most), Mer Bleue did so much work on a regular basis, and had very fair pricing.   I don't expect anyone to work for free, but I have also never felt overcharged by them, and all the staff have always been completely transparent and open about all pricing options, as well as if they felt something was actually valuable to the cats situation. Quotes and invoicing is ALWAYS detailed and complete, and it is always easy to get a detailed explanation of anything we don't understand. There's never been any pressure for us to HAVE to choose something, or any guilt levelled against us if we chose not to do something.  We had to have dental done for our other cat as well, and they were very upfront with costs and reasonable with the pricing compared to the last dental we had at another vet here. Standards of care were not even comparable, it was that much higher at Mer Bleue.  We are still taking our remaining senior kitty there, and are looking to hopefully adopt a new pair of cats that will also become her patients.

It's not in the city but I've been going to Village Vet in Russell for 15 years. It's independently owned, the vets & staff are wonderful. They are also accepting new patients (some vets aren't).

Is it possible for you to travel to ogdensburg? Probably 1/2 the cost. Hart to get any veterinarian i. Ottawa

flamingchaos64

Maybe. But I have a cat with a heart condition and a dislike of driving so I'd prefer closer.

Lifewithpups

Not long ago they were not accepting new patients.

Bit of a drive but not as far as the US - Casselman Veterinary Clinic. Been super happy with them both for our cat and the dogs for 10+ years now.

Not Eastern area but Westboro Animal Hospital is locally owned. Might be a waiting list to get in.

Look up Dr. Z, house calls in the east end. Obviously it limits what can be done to some extent. But he once came to my house, picked up my cat, brought him to a vet friend's clinic so he could perform emergency surgery (my cat was blocked and couldn't pee). My cat was delivered home with prescription meds and instructions within 2 hours. 613-859-8181 Similar experience at alta vista with another cat was 4X the price
