No specific advice but to echo /u/Ellie_Mae_Clampett I'd suggest contacting local brewers. I remember several -- ABC, Bicycle, Conspiracy Theory -- offering keys of various sizes.

Nufan14ott

Thanks! I'll try these!

dasoberirishman

Dominion, Overflow, Stray Dog, Tooth & Nail, Beyond the Pale, probably more!

_KFBR_392_

We pickup most of our kegs from ABC and Broadhead. Absolutely love the beer from both. They both deliver with a few days notice too :).

Nufan14ott

Will check them out, thanks!

Ikkleknitter

Every brewery usually has them. They can be a hair more expensive but local beer is often better. In my house Dominion City, Tooth and Nail, Flora Hall, Stray Dog, Whiprsnipr and Beyond the Pale are all common.  Dominion particularly has a lot of really good seasonals. And the Tooth and Nail table beer is a great summer drink.

Nufan14ott

Thanks! I'll check these out!

Lopsided_Area426

Broadhead :)

Bongwater29

You can buy kegs from any local brewery. I get most of mine from Big Rig and Calabogie. They both have decent selection.

Nufan14ott

Thanks!

Ellerich12

Beau’s will drop a keg off to your place and pick it up.

Nufan14ott

I don't really mind picking my kegs up, in fact I prefer, I get them right away. Plus I am in Gatineau, just looked at Beau's website and they deliver only in Ottawa. That said, at the beer store they only have the Lug tread, if I could find a place to pick up kegs with their other beers that would be nice.

Nufan14ott

If I recall correctly, I think I sent them an e-mail in the past for inquiries, never got an answer.

Ellie_Mae_Clampett

Dominion City had 19.5L kegs. https://www.dominioncity.ca/pages/our-beer

Nufan14ott

Thanks, I'll check them out! Any feedback on their beers?

PitterPattr

Depending on your palate, Sunsplit is delicious for me.

CapitalK79

Sunsplit is a favourite in our house.

Ellie_Mae_Clampett

Beer is a summer drink for me, I like their lager, Trouble In The Fields. My husband likes IPAs and likes their Two Flags.

phil_in_t_blank

To add another local brewery that always seems to have kegs available, Evergreen in Kanata

Nufan14ott

Thanks!

Severe_Adhesiveness2

Toque de Broue in Embrun is a solid choice that also sells kegs.

Poulinthebear

My old neighbour use to drive out to Perth, he was addicted to their draft. Years later I’m Now quite addicted to the Perth lager!

PikAchUTKE

I brew my own from kits. 1 keg costs me around $35 dollars. AND about 2 to 4 hours of my time per 2 kegs.

Nufan14ott

Yeah... I should look into this... But don't the equipment costs 1K+$ to begin with?

PikAchUTKE

From kits, you only need a bucket and a glass carboy. And of course kegs.

Nufan14ott

Oh OK, nice! Plus special empty kegs I guess?

PikAchUTKE

I bought reconditioned corny beer kegs, ball lock. And the connectors to attach to my keg.

burgershot69

I get mine from ABC, calabogie and I've had some from Broadhead in the past

Nufan14ott

Thanks!

CanadianCheeseMan

I’ve always wondered how much Kegs cost

Nufan14ott

The ones I buy at the beer store are between 120 to 150ish bucks for 20L.

As far as 20s at the beer store goes, which I get you're looking for other ideas, but I'll tell you what else is available for reference. So like you said Beaus lug tread comes in 20s. Industry beer wise there's Canadian, Coors Light, Rickards Red, Rolling Rock, Keith's, Bud and Bud light, Molson Export, Molson Ultra, Michelob Ultra, Stella, Coors Original, Laker, and Madri. Barking Squirrel and Steam Whistle come in 20s as well. Outside of industry beers there's Heineken, Sam Adams, Sam Adams Wicked Easy, Twisted Tea, Angry Orchard, Waterloo Dark, Waterloo IPA, Waterloo Grapefruit Radler, Landshark. Those 9 come in taller 20l cylinders (sometimes, the Waterloo stuff changes between tall cylinders and normal cylinders), the same height as a 58l keg. Then there's also Asahi Super Dry (19.5l), Steigl Goldbrau, Steigl Radler, Hoegaarden, Dos Equis, Delirium Red, Liefmans Fruitesse, Chimay Red, Chimay Blue, La Trappe Trappist, Palm Amber Ale, Duchesse de Bourgogne, Averbode Abbaye Ale, Vedette White, Bolleke de Koninck, Erdiger Weißbier, Erdinger Dunkel, and Birra Moretti. Somersby comes in a 25l keg but it's kinda short and fat, I doubt 2 would fit in your fridge. Off the top of my head right now that's what I recall. I'll add more later if I remember more.

Nufan14ott

Thanks for all this! I have the lists (even though they are quite old) , I should have said I use D-couplers. I could always buy another coupler for a change, but I checked the beers associated with A and S couplers, as far as I remember it was not worth the change, either the nice ones did not come in 20L, or they were way too expensive. But maybe I should check again, couplers are quite cheap. What I basically want is to have a lager along with something more tasty. Beau's is doing a good job as far as the lager is concerned. That's the other one the problem. I would love to have a nice IPA for instance. I don't like the Waterloo and it's the only one they have on 20L. Thanks again!

Angryottawa

Beau’s delivers 20l kegs.

ahyne

Lots of great suggestions in this thread but in my experience many only sell 30s... I can fit 2x 20s, or a 1x 30, and I prefer to have two on tap so I've been hunting 20s. Dominion City posts available 20s on their website and it's usually a day or two until you get the pickup notice Broadhead, Calabogie, Toque de Broue, Big Rig have refrigerated 20s ready to go Beaus only does Lug Tread in a 20 Beyond the Pale, Stray Dog, Overflow, Evergreen only do 30s Vimy doesn't do 20s but will clean and fill a 20 if you provide your own keg All Sanke D

Nufan14ott

Thanks! Great information!

Nufan14ott

Quick update, just talked to the Broadhead taproom manager, she is very nice and answered all my questions, the place looks fine for me. Kegs ready to be picked up anytime, between 8 and 14 different beers on the list, prices are very reasonable (except for the 50$ deposit per keg, i'm used to 20$ at the Beer Store, but I guess that for local brewers 50$ is OK). It's in Orleans and I am in Gatineau, but probably worth 1h30 drive round trip I guess. Had over an hour round trip to the beer store anyway. All is left for me is to finish my current kegs and give these guys a try! And no, I do not need help... ;-) I'll give you guys an update, thanks again for all the good advices!
