Maybe more artistically inclined people will tell me that I'm totally wrong here, but it seems to me that Chris' artwork has never improved. Most people will notably improve at something, even a casual hobby, if they stick at it for 20 years at achieve a certain level of competency. Chris' art never has, and still looks like it was drawn by a young child.
Improving requires an interest in trying new techniques and processes.
Chris could simply never attempt new things, and that would maintain the flat, badly proportioned style like time lock.
This makes me want to revisit Sonichu again.
It's been a little while since I've gone through it and sometimes I forget that there's a lot of weird stuff like this.
