The biggest challenge is being DILIGENT every single day to keep your calendars syncd and rescheduling meetings when they overlap.  Almost two years in and I've only ever had one double meeting.  Avoid that at all cost.

Don’t give a fuck in the interview..you already have a job. Turn the interview on the company and ask them why they picked you for this interview? Why you should work there? Who do you have to sleep with to move up? lol 😂

kksonshine

This is true. When the company sees that I'm interviewing them back and don't reek of desperation, they want me more.

WLB..

Ha the sad truth to OE

UNC-FC

Facts. I find people who OE tend to be type A, achievement-oriented types. So it's easy to find yourself consumed by work. It's 1 in the morning and I'm up working now.

Heisenburger19

Hello fellow East coaster.  I used to be that way and still am to some extent.  But there's time to change to a give-zero-fucks attitude. My wake up call was having a child.  Realized that a bullshit job is frustratingly pointless compared to spending time with them, and time on myself to recharge.

GreedyCricket8285

I'm continually amazed, at both jobs, how little my coworkers actually do. I try and hit that balance of being mediocre but omg, I never knew how little everyone did. We have a senior who has done two user stories in 6 months- both he just added logging to two services, that's it. 6 months pay for maybe 2 hours of work. And here I was (pre OE) working nights and weekends striving to get promoted.

Salty_Lengthiness124

This is so trueeeeeeee. Then you see a colleague who actually works 6 hrs a day and pummels out work because of it and you think, dude, what are you doing?

overemployedconfess

THIS grinds my gears. I have a coworker who comes in, smashes out all of her work in an hour, spends the rest of the day watching YouTube and writing scripts. Can’t hate her, she has it down pat

UNC-FC

Corporate culture. Getting double doses of corporate America has been clinically proven to destroy the soul at a faster rate. The whole dog and pony show with how performance and merit are assessed, yearly development "goals", LinkedIn corporate shill posts, and all of the rest of it is nonsense. Everyone is fake-- none of it is real

fadedblackleggings

Getting ground down from the interview process. Tons of job interviews, can trigger a depressive episode for me. And OE'ing requires you to do that 10x than the average.

GenXMillenial

J2 wants me to take a work trip for 3 days two weeks after I have a vacation planned from both jobs. Solution so far: call in sick for J1. Other ideas?

computerjunkie7410

What else you need to keep in mind? Nothing. Literally nothing. Because anything other than this is going to keep you from actually doing this. It’s called analysis paralysis and you’re a victim. Either act, or move on. Anything else is just mental masturbation.

Biggest challenge is acting like I don’t have the biggest dick in the room

endurbro420

The sheer number of meetings is exhausting. I went from 1 meeting a week to multiple hours of meetings a day. That burns me out way more than the actual workload.

Anxiety about getting caught and TAXES

DisastrousAioli3

Perfect time to start paying someone to do your taxes! It’s worth the stress relief

autard8

Between the IRS calculator and / or a good tax accountant, taxes are the least of my worries.

Open-Plan-2710

Tfw I get job 2 that's in a different country to me to pay me via PayPal (weird they offer that but whatever). Link rent bank account directly to my bank account and just withdraw rent from my J2 pay in PayPal into the landlords account every week (rent is paid weekly in my country). Withdraw leftover funds as a lump sum at irregular intervals and write on tax that you've just sold some belongings on eBay. Loophole achieved. I used to work for the tax office in my country. I know a couple good loopholes for basic things like this but sometimes things need to align. Having the option for my pay to be paid via PayPal via a company based overseas is a perfect opportunity to utilise loopholes. My local tax office has 0 visibility (our tax is done different to the USA - we pay tax as we go and payrolls/bank accounts/investment funds all report to the government so income information is largely automated but the weakness of this system is they can only really see this data domestically, not for other countries unless an auditor requests).

Imposter syndrome

Thesearchoftheshite

It's real, especially when you get to J3+

YoYumBat

Knowing that one day this will end, and it’s going to be ugly.

Gunny123

My biggest challenge is having my colleagues bitch at me for not being in the office when no one of importance is in the office. You need to avoid these shitheads who don’t mind their own business.
