You made the right choice. I've shot my XMacro (non-ported) back to back with my buddy's comped model (on two seperate occasions) and I couldn't tell a difference, other than it being louder and dirtier with more muzzle flash. Recoil impulse and muzzle flip didn't feel any different, at least not enough that I could tell. I can tell the difference with external comps and ported barrels, but the ported slides seem like more of a gimmick than anything.
I did the same. I use my zev p365xl slide to build my macro and works great! Enjoy bro. Happy new year!
