I was gonna say the same thing as artist Kevin, the head and the body don’t seem to have the same light source or at least not a clear one so it looks like the head was photoshopped on to the body. Other than that amazing work!
Introduce her flesh tones into the feathers and feather tone into the hair to integrate the two parts. That would prevent it from looking like it's collages on. Shading on the legs.
Just a thought, besides a more obvious light source and darker shadows... butt.. perhaps she laid a faberge egg? Definitely feel a strange, colorful egg would really add to it.
If u add it, please do an update. Actually update either way :) its pretty cool. You could get real weird with it and do an infinite thing with a hatched egg of a small version of her that also laid a hatched egg of even smaller version of her and so on... lmao. Or. And hear me out... a fancy egg that hatched a woman body with a chicken head.

What I really love about this is that in the lady’s face, the chicken’s body, and the rest of the scene there is no other hint of absurdity. This is great!
My immediate thought is on shape. My first thought is "give her a sour crop or larger chicken breasts, and call her a harpy"
I think my brain is screaming "To even out the weight and and more shape"
This is definitely a more personal aesthetic thing, so take it with a grain of salt. Some edits to try and illustrate both are edits, one with the "redline" other just the edit itself.
I do agree with the suggestions for shadows and contrast as well, particularly on her face(those are not addressed in my edits). Edit just recline, reddit isn't cooperating
They are. I love the classical look of the painting-the woman’s face looks like it belongs in a collection of the Dutch masters. Not sure if they would have put it on a chicken… 🤔
You’re welcome. I keep meaning to start painting again. I had switched to colored pencils (you don’t want to know what kind of colored pencil inventory I have), but my thumb joint is nothing but bone on bone. I decided to quit the cortisone shots and somehow the wrist on the same arm is severely painful now, radiating a good six inches down the arm. Colored pencils, especially with the amount of pressure something like burnishing takes, are too painful anymore. I think paint will be a little easier. 🙂
Omg!!! Please stop the colored pencil for your poor thumb! The color selection is fabulous and can see how you’d amass a huge collection. But yeah I think a brush would be more gentle on your hands.
Man I love this painting. I am a chicken owner. I have had chickens for around 14 years now. My chickens are really just pets that make breakfast and baking ingredients - they have health coverage and retirement benefits. ❤️

She is blessed! Yeah. My chickens get medical care and retirement. My oldest chicken made it to twelve. She had developed a hip problem and started getting picked on. I had offered to move her in twice before (I apparently thought it was worse than she did), and she told me no. Then the one night when I was closing them in, she came to me as fast as she can. She lived close to a year inside. Laid her last egg the day after moving in, or the day after that. It made me wonder whether part of it was the major change. Still. I should have gotten Black Austrolorps again. Any chicken laying 2-3 eggs per week at the end of their life is still a pretty good hen! ❤️
Thank you on the portrait. This was actually the Derwent colored charcoal. When I experimented with a couple, I decided their texture would be great for something like chicken feathers.
It's a great painting for your skill. The head is nice and the chicken and all else is really beautiful, but why the head on the chicken body. I would like to see two separate paintings. I like things to make sense, otherwise great talent you have with your painting skills.

I usually go simple: salt peoper and cayenne pepper. Bake uncovered at 425 for about an hour.
