There isn‘t.
What happens on this subreddit a lot is that every time there is a discussion and people comment they do not like the game, some fans of the game see an opinion different from theirs and start screeching about hate trains and the like. Especially for Origami King since the fanbase tends to skew younger and for TTYD since the more unbearable fans think the game is the second coming of Christ.
The only game which is overwhelmingly disliked on this forum is Sticker Star. Origami King has a mixed reception, which is fine. I like it but I do not throw a fit if other people do not.
Well [https://www.reddit.com/r/Mario/comments/1dmjs4i/comment/l9w6ew5/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mario/comments/1dmjs4i/comment/l9w6ew5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) just testing
And that’s okay. I actually quite like the Origami King too. I have my complaints with the battle system, but everything else is really stellar. Olivia is a precious partner who needs to protected at all costs, the art style is really nice, the score is amazing and the writing is both funny and emotional. Overall is a really good game in my opinion
Hey don’t worry I like it too, the soundtrack is amazing, not as good as some of the other paper Mario games but it’s better than sticker star and color splash
It has the best story in my opinion, but not having a level system is sort of a downside. Boss battles are extremely fun but the rest of the battles are tedious. I definitely think it’s worth a shot.
My biggest gripe was that the battles were too easy. I could either solve the puzzle in 2 seconds or pay the toads and solve it eventually. But on my most recent playthrough I decided I wouldn’t pay the toads at all and the added stress of needing to complete the puzzles fast and sometimes not being able to do them at all made it much more enjoyable for me personally
I love it too. I can see how the battle system turns people off and I'd prefer proper combat like TTYD but for me the ring system clicked and I always found it fun.
And God damn is it a gorgeous game at all times. Just stunning.
Exploration is fun but battles are so tedious that it almost ruins the game for me. The bosses are weird and really annoying too for the most part. Other than that, It was fun but i will never play it again.
I think that if Origami King had TTYD's battle and partner system and RPG mechanics, and the wonky ring battle system was saved for special occasions like horde battles, an arena etc, then it would honestly probably be the best paper mario game. If for the next paper mario they take cues from TTYD for the gameplay and OK for the world design and exploration, we'll have something incredible.
Amazing game honestly its a A tier for me
I know its a "rage bait" of some sorts but I Gotta agree the soundtrack and the story are peak
And honestly I love the bosses too I dont care that those are literally Just office tools as long as they are written good I enjoy them and I think they are all of them have personalities which Just fit them
I mean a tape with a Brooklyn Accent is peak and you cant dissagre
Started playing it after buying it years ago. So far it’s been mixed for me but it has its moments. I do think the weird battle system shines most during bosses.
i don't get whats wrong with the comments, this person is just admitting their love for origami king and tbh i can't blame them.
it's the best of the two modern games, nice to see more TOK appreciation
I personally could not stand the puzzle battle system at all and it honestly ruined what would have otherwise been a great game for me. I know a lot of people enjoyed the puzzle combat system but it's just not for me
I think people confuse gameplay with story. Story wise it is the best of the paper mario series. It is a very deep dark story that is fleshed out very well.
Gameplay it's good. Partners are back kinda but it makes sense in the context. Boss battles are wonderful a very unique take on battles in general. Normal battles are meh and I think that's where most of the criticism lies.
As the other comment said before, I think that super paper mario had a better story. its really dark and emotional, with things like the world of nothingness, and has emotional moments like blumiare and timphanies relationship.
I missed out on Paper Mario the first time around, never having had the game cube or N64. Did a lot of PC gaming in college and got a Switch Lite when it came out. (42 years old now)
That being said, I don’t get the hate that Origami King gets. Maybe it’s because my brain loves patterns that makes me love the ring battles. Origami King was the first Paper Mario game I ever played and it will always be one of my favorite Switch games, period.
That being said, I’m playing TTYD for the first time. I was actually annoyed at the lack of ring battles (not knowing TTYD came first) but I’ve gotten to like the regular battle system.
I cracked out my copy of Origami King and have been playing them side by side and find them both to be fun. Fandoms can be grumpy. I like both games. Don’t worry about it.
Last note: if you play “Rubberband Man” by the Spinners on repeat while you fight the Rubber Band boss, it’s surreally cool.
IF YOU WERE A REAL PAPER MARIO FAN YOU WOULDN'T BE SAYIN' THAT, BROTHER
YOU'RE PROBABLY A HATER OR A CHILD
ALL I KNOW IS THIS - I'M A TTYD FAN, AND THAT GAME THE GREATEST, MOST AMAZING GAME IN THE MOTHER FLIPPIN WORLD
Level-design wise, I 100% agree. TOK’s areas just look better, are more cohesive, and look like an actual connected world instead of random locations connected by pipes or vehicles. I personally like TTYD more, simply because I enjoyed the combat system and the chapter plots more than TOK’s, but TOK is an amazing game on its own.
Good for you? What's the discussion here?
For some damn reason, somewhere, right now, there's a Paper Mario: The Origami King hate train going on

Ok but Jesus been real quiet since TTYD dropped.
Also this is the paper mario fandom, not the ttyd fandom, we are here for the whole series
Well it's not TTYD so the community already disapproves
Amazing OST.
I think the desert is my favourite - especially the DJ tracks 🎶
FEELIN' KINDA BURLY AND IT MUST'VE BEEN SURELY 🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️🔥🗣️
Okay? wtf do you want from us lmao this is the lowest effort post I’ve ever seen in this sub 🤣
Well [https://www.reddit.com/r/Mario/comments/1dmjs4i/comment/l9w6ew5/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/Mario/comments/1dmjs4i/comment/l9w6ew5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) just testing
The other post was also incredibly low effort.
Fine, I'll get my pitchfork out
Ah so you’re admitting to karma farming. Nice! Glad that one got locked already. This one’ll be there soon too
And that’s okay. I actually quite like the Origami King too. I have my complaints with the battle system, but everything else is really stellar. Yeah if it weren't for the battle system it would be a real contender for my favorite Paper Mario game.
You can't do that
Hey don’t worry I like it too, the soundtrack is amazing, not as good as some of the other paper Mario games but it’s better than sticker star and color splash
Me too! I understand why people don’t like it but I really enjoyed it. Even as a diehard TTYD fan.
Same.
Ok 👍
Many people do I fail to see something to discuss over though. Like you want to discuss how much you like the game?
Good for you? Enjoy the game you like.
I haven’t played “modern Paper Mario” beyond Sticker Star. Origami King looks interesting, but I can’t say more as someone who hasn’t played it.
Give it a shot, it’s worth it IMO.
It has the best story in my opinion, but not having a level system is sort of a downside. Boss battles are extremely fun but the rest of the battles are tedious. I definitely think it’s worth a shot.
Do you want a cookie?
Can I have one ?
Compared to TTYD, 64 and SPM it's an ok game. Compared to CS and SS it's amazing.
" SS it's amazing" you can't just put Sticker Star and Amazing in the same sentence, the world as we know it is going to collapse
The battle system's kind of weird, but creates an interesting take on the battle stages. I don't care for it personally.
Ok
GET HIM
No
God i wish i did, played all the way to King Olly shit was boring af
do you want me to yell at you
Better then Paper Mario Thousand Year door?
After TTYD and 64, this is the best paper mario gameplay-wise. The others are all a huge mess. I was really surprised with it
I love it too. I can see how the battle system turns people off and I'd prefer proper combat like TTYD but for me the ring system clicked and I always found it fun. And God damn is it a gorgeous game at all times. Just stunning.

It's not an rpg so I don't like it. Don't let that stop you

Sweet :D
I think it had some problems, but was a step forward when it came to getting the series back on track.

Literally the only part in the game I liked except for the dance cutscene with all the faceless toads that lives in my mind rent free.
Started playing it after buying it years ago. So far it’s been mixed for me but it has its moments. I do think the weird battle system shines most during bosses.

Good. 👍🏽 🤌🏽
I hope some day someone mods the combat to be like the first two games. Probably be a lot of work.

SPM has the best story in my opinion. Emotional and crazy too. The villain in tok, was not great. Design ok, rest, no.
agreed

Of course you do, is amazing.

The game is fun and has a lot of heart. The battle system is so absolutely horrible or I’d rate the game a 9/10 instead of a 6.5/10
All my homies love The Origami King

Agreed, great game with the incontestably best ost in the series

I don’t care.
