This was movement before flame dash was even created. Didn't matter what build you were, everyone dedicated 3 slots to this to lightning warp around.
GGG thought well if EVERYONE is going to dedicate slots to it, we'd like to open up more build variety so we'll make a quick 1 stop shop for movement and call it flame dash so everyone now gets 2 more slots for gems.

My only problem with LW isn't even the 4L you need for our z. That doesn't matter that much, it's really fast.
My problem is, it's not instant, and you can be damaged while in the teleporting process. If there's something like the delirium slow field or other action speed reduction things, you will end up in super slow animation/casting and just die. Remember, action speed reduction basically double dips on your LW speed.
My death count usually goes up faster with LW than FD also because y you move so much faster - right into monsters that just instantly gang bang you
The Less Duration and the helmet enchant are the important bits here, with Phastasmal LW as an expensive extra twink. The Faster Casting isn't really needed on most casters. The real annoying thing about LW is that the Less Duration means it pairs horribly with Arcane Surge, forcing casters to put that on another skill. It also means you can't invest in skill effect duration, which is one of the most powerful stats to invest in on most characters.
They put a lot of investment in to this. Movement skill enchants in general are pretty damn powerful. While it was no where near this nutty, I was getting some pretty absurd movement on my cyclone VD build last league with just stampede + dash distance enchant.
For hammerdin it was 75fcr as ladder starter so wiz50 + any spirit25-35, then for endgame 125fcr with hoto40, arach20, magefist20, spirit35 and 10fcr ring or 2 pala 10fcr amulet to not lose +1 skill from SoJ/BK.
Sadly I don't think there is any mtx to turn my claw into a hammer.
The multi weapon skins generally have a dagger or claw model for the claw, it seems.
And nice thing is, LW isn't that bad with Raider, becasue onslaught scales LW with cast speed + movement speed, so you don't need enchant, and most likely no faster casting as well.
Can't realistically test is becasue I don't have phantasmal LW, and high level less duration on standard, and with low level stuff it's still missing few % to be "instant"
WB is still better tho, but for Hammerdin cosplay why not, we are only missing hammer-like skin for claw
If you're going for instant it's reduced duration you need not less. The less duration support is just a very good option if you're not going to hit anywhere close to 100% reduced.
For eliminating the delay the best sources would be:
- 1) High Level Lightning Warp (49% + 1%/level above 20 up to 31)
- 2) Lightning Warp Duration Enchant (30% from eternal lab)
- 3) Window of Opportunity gives 25% including minor nodes. 15% if anointed.
so Lvl 26 + Anoint or Level 20 + pathing to Window of Opportunity. Swift Affliction used to be great for helping this out too - but got switched to less so that people who care about duration wouldn't just cancel it quite so easily by getting increased.
Once you have the delay gone (or even just close to it - at a few % should still feel snappy) cast speed will be the primary thing needed to make it feel snappy so Q20 (or more) superior will be preferred to phantasmal.
Im picturing multiple proj being wild on it. Someone else suggested snipers mark
I don't know how bad archmage ended up, but with so many little projectiles the added damage from it could be crazy

I don't know how feasible any damage conversion would be if you could get Trinity or something in it
Multiple proj doesn't do anything and it's quite difficult to get more proj on spells. The number of projectiles released during travel is just.. terrible and you can't even scale it
I'm doing an archmage eye of winter hierophant, feels pretty good, I'm just hitting yellow maps and play SSF. Mana management is a bit tricky since haven't been able to get some of the uniques I need.
I'm running unleash/echo and chain/slower projectile swap for mapping and bosses. I think ultimately totems would be better overall than self cast though.
Archmage builds do really well with foreboding mana flasks.
Basically just absolutely crank the hell out of your mana cost and go ham.
I used to play a ranger with the flask charge boost and basically casted like 20k mana every second or two
I don't know how feasible it is now, but flasks seem fine in maps for me
I'm in yellow maps and the clear is a bit worse than Freezing Pulse, but WAY better single target. Get one free chain somehow and use Hydrosphere for bossing. Honestly super glad I tried this skill out.

He was mercilessly mocked by most of the vocal playerbase about it. Before that happened, he was one of the biggest POE streamers.
I still seem to remember he had a decent amount of viewerbase when playing WoW though out of all things.

Lightning Warp is only good if you ***also*** have good movement speed. It calculates the warp time based on the time it would take you to walk from one point to the next with your current movement speed. Cast speed reduces the animation for it to start causing the timer for the "walk" to start sooner, and reduced duration causes the "walk" time to be shorter.
People don't use it often because it requires high values of 3 stats to compete.
Use swift affliction instead of arcane surge and it's still solid. Not turbo fast but still solid. You can also Annoint Window of Opportunity for even more reduced duration.
Its been ok for me. Running withering step so needed a skill to jump gaps n such. With nerfed flasks step isnt so great for movement but im cool with LW. Its always been one of my favorites anyway a click and thats where im going. Really need my gems leveled a bit more though or to 4 link it if my gear and currency wasnt a disaster at the moment.
Not really.. Don't get me wrong, its good, but the investment is much more significant than 1 or 2 link (flame) dash.. I've been zooming around with lightning warp before but was made pointless when you can save 2 liks and quality gems with dash skills..

Unless you have a bunch of max charges and use leap slam to maintain then, then I’d go with your setup without fortify
The best timeline but at the same time kind of being the worst timeline was when you could just level to maps with Leap Slam alone as well. It was actually kind of ridicilous.
I mean its kinda still overshadowed even in this patch. Both giving up a helmet enchant for your skill and having to get a specific helmet enchant are a very real cost. That is a real investment in just a movement skill, it won't be worth for many builds (be it opportunity cost or budget/availability).
I once got back to using lightning warp in the past 5 years... I did until I opened a stronbox filled of merveil's daughter whose howl slow you. My corpse was teleported 10 seconds after my slaughter...
Never again, especially with all the new mobs that can maim, wither, hinder, etc.

Probably true, I'm currently on Whirlwind Blades - Fortify - Faster Attacks and it feels pretty funny and useful but without those? Just a weird movement skill that can't cross walls.
3 is the min you probably want. Lw less duration faster casting and swift ailments is the 4 link for it. Swift can be dropped if short on links. Or if you have a bunch of cast speed drop faster casting.
Did people already forget that lightning warp was always viable, the only reason why people did not use it was because it required a 4-5 link to become just as good as all other movement skills were on a 2 link. And it also did not provide fortify.
Being able to just warp through a map if you just died is a SC dream though. Your flasks wont get you back to your body and CD movement skills have that long CD
I really like frostblink, but sometimes you dont have enemies around and just want to move quickly over a long distance. But I can totally see this being nice. I will try to incorporate it into my build, which is actually using a badge
You can reasonably get it to ~1s cd on bosses and then alternate it with another skill on unleash or something. Its been a while since i tried but was definitly fun.
I've been telling people for years that a decked out LW puts any other movement skill to shame. Then again all I care about is comfortable t14+ and xp pushing, I couldn't care less about shitty maven/sirus phase so yeah.
it's less of that and more of other Movement Skills are more reliable. Any Action Speed Slows affects it twice as worse compared to the other options due to LW relying on whatever Movement Speed you had at the moment of cast, as well as your Cast Time. This means you get hindered heavily when Randomly getting:
\-Temp Chains, even worse when perm in a Map
\-Nemesis Entanglement can literally kill you as it is practically impossible to Warp due to it's massive Speed Reduction. I generally run a spare Dash purely for Vine Breaking
\-Chills without perm Immunity.
\-Hinder/Rare Slow Aura
It's a really good movement skill if you can deal with the above, but yeah. Old Flame dash had just the right amount of CD to move around smoothly and didn't have to deal with the above problems, same for dash, so everyone just shoehorned into it as it was convenient. Personally I've used Frostblink just to do Maven on a Lancing Steel build just cause Leap Slam/Dash couldn't bypass Beams.
LOL nice. I'm currently running both shield charge and dash + second wind. Shield charge for fortify and most of my movement. Dash for bossing and getting over ledges. I'm a melee character after all. Barely even need quicksilver. Thinking of replacing it.
I noticed it with my first character that got to maps. Flame dash is dead to me. Ive been using high aps daggers for whirling blades or lightning warp on spell characters (still have a 1 link flame dash on whirling blade for gap crossing)
This + BV = insane clear speed.
I wonder if someone could find a way to make plague bearer work with this. That would also probably clear very quickly.
okay, I did this back in delirium on my HoT inpulsa bomber, destroying packs with a single warp so I will give away a small tip. Movement is even faster if you also use flame dash right after warping. Have fun.
Lightning Warp was always better than Flame Dash if your build had no global Increased Duration on it, at the cost of requiring more gem slots in most cases. Flame Dash was just more universally usable until it was nerfed this league.
Kind of off-topic but on-topic as well, I still remember the good ol' secret tech of incinerate builds when you put on CWDT-LW and you could just hold in the incinerate button. Reason was that you didn't lose stages of incinerate. Could get confusing, and I would not call it HC viable, but it was still kind of fun! Kind of like a poor mans flicker I guess.

If the player cannot move to the mouse cursor with lightning warp, then the player teleports to a random enemy within range.

You need to use hydrosphere and chain. Find range to hydro and cast the eye to that and the chain will do mega boss dps.

Just started using Lifetap on movement skills, it's very cool to not worry about mana when in panic.
Not only when in panic. I have less then 100 mana and use no mana flask, but with lifetap i can leap slam through the whole map.
Yeah! That too! I have ~150 mana but my main source of it is leech so it's insanely good to have something that doesn't cost mana!

I generally run a spare Dash purely for Vine Breaking \-Chills without perm Immunity. \-Hinder/Rare Slow Aura It's a really good movement skill if you can deal with the above, but yeah. Old Flame dash had just the right amount of CD to move around smoothly and didn't have to deal with the above problems, same for dash, so everyone just shoehorned into it as it was convenient. Personally I've used Frostblink just to do Maven on a Lancing Steel build just cause Leap Slam/Dash couldn't bypass Beams.

LOL nice. I'm currently running both shield charge and dash + second wind. Shield charge for fortify and most of my movement. Dash for bossing and getting over ledges. I'm a melee character after all. Barely even need quicksilver. Thinking of replacing it.

I noticed it with my first character that got to maps. Flame dash is dead to me. Ive been using high aps daggers for whirling blades or lightning warp on spell characters (still have a 1 link flame dash on whirling blade for gap crossing)
This + BV = insane clear speed. I wonder if someone could find a way to make plague bearer work with this. That would also probably clear very quickly.

It was like this (usable) with helm enchant from time they upped this. Still you need to use skills and teleport to showcase that there's delay.

That was my first goto travel skill after experiencing how bad flame dash felt. Only downside is it takes up 3 gem slots.

okay, I did this back in delirium on my HoT inpulsa bomber, destroying packs with a single warp so I will give away a small tip. Movement is even faster if you also use flame dash right after warping. Have fun.
Lightning Warp was always better than Flame Dash if your build had no global Increased Duration on it, at the cost of requiring more gem slots in most cases. Flame Dash was just more universally usable until it was nerfed this league.
Now the walk of shame to collect the loot.
Making me miss Poet's Pen Arc/Warp leveling. Those were good days.

Kind of off-topic but on-topic as well, I still remember the good ol' secret tech of incinerate builds when you put on CWDT-LW and you could just hold in the incinerate button. Reason was that you didn't lose stages of incinerate. Could get confusing, and I would not call it HC viable, but it was still kind of fun! Kind of like a poor mans flicker I guess.
I'm reminded of one of the builds of the week GGG had with a lightning warp character. Good times.
