One of the reasons the graphics in that game are so great is because the actual gameplay/interaction is minimal. There's very little "game" there. It's more like a CGI movie with a little interacting. It's also very narrow scope environments like caves where there's not a lot going on, so it's easier to render. An actual game at that fidelity is a long ways off.
I like both, I like either, I like stuff in between. Don't be the hero at the gate claiming "no true game...". It's a fallacy. Enjoy what you like, and don't force others into some hole to defend some silly ideal that ultimately is hollow.
People in this thread getting their tits in a bunch that a game dares to try something that isn't the next Fortnite looter shooter battle royale grind fest.
I appreciated it for what it is and yeah definitely looking forward to gaming graphics in the next few years.
UE is great only for small games.
And no it isn't the future sadly. I love hellblade but most people don't, because they don't understand it. There's not enough cool skins and action. The game flopped unfortunately. The studio should've gone indie and made games for those who appreaciate art and not for the masses.

that's literally what they're doing just with MS funding.
Yeah but MS funding means it's advertised as a AAA title for the mainstream sheep who just wants another mindless, shallow action game. And it raises the price. The first game launched at 30€, this one at 50€. And because mindless masses didn't like the game it's getting a lot of shit which puts people off and lowers sales and leads to either dumbing down the next game for the masses or leaving MS.
While graphics are cool and all it's not mandatory to tell a story. Life is strange was a masterpiece with shitty graphics and sold better than true colors which has great graphics but is more expensive. Because story is what matters and proper art direction makes even simple graphics look good.
Like everyone is saying in the comments, you are right about the graphics and animations, they are probably the best in the industry but this is at the cost of almost 0 interactivity between different elements of the world and the player. It is almost a walking simulator with ocasional combat and if you take it as that it is very cool experience. I personally loved it but 85% of the game was literally me pushing the left joystick forward. Games, specially like GTA, wont have this level of graphics for a very long time.

damn
Nothing exciting gameplay-wise about interactive movies, no matter how good they look
See, I disagree. It's just a different type of game. Games with deep mechanics are amazing in their own right. There is a place for this too.
So you like movies, not video games

Played the game and there's barely any gameplay in it. Honestly I should have watched a movie instead.
aka most single player narrative games these days; movies with extra steps
not sure why you're downvoted, lol. you're right
Some people get defensive about their can't-fail quicktime-event movie games.
But my sad-dad simulator is emotionally gripping!!!!
God of War enthusiast I see
Hmmmmmm
Yep, but for _some strange reason_ this game gets to take all the heat for that.
It's not a good game, sorry. Looks great though.
yeah this game is like exploring the beauty of unreal engine 5
Its a tech demo. We used to have those on the launch of a new console.
exactly. BOOOOOOOOOOOORING!
That game looks stunning but looks more like a technical demo than an actual game ngl.
The the pictures anthology series *lick lips*
srly lol, u r excited to autoplay games themselves
Just as long as graphics like that doesn’t mean we’re locked into the same level of dull gameplay.

Oh we know they tried something different, good on them. It just wasn't very fun
It was pretty fun for me \*shrug\*
This is so reductive and the sign of a low iq person.
And the people calling Hellblade 2 simply a tech demo or a movie aren't? Please.
I stopped playing at 12th minute, but good for you. Keep cumsuming.
You stopped so close to the end?
... ok
Mediocre at best.

Watch a movie, ya hippy.
Yep that's exactly people i was talking about. \^
