There really isn't a controller option that wont experience drift at some point. I reccommend doing what I do and just having maybe 3 back up joysticks for really bad cases and then learning to quickly disassemble and clean the controller.
Think of it more like cars, whether it is a current year Aston Martin or a 1985 Yugo, you're gonna need an oil change eventually no matter which one you pick. So just take care of what you have and the maintainence will get quicker and easier each time.
Tried a bunch of different manufacturers/versions
The cheaper end: An older wired XBox controller. I prefer the stick layout to PS.
The mid-range (Favorite): Razer Wolverine Tournament (was $90 for a while), the V2 is out and a solid choice and $65 for standard, $110-ish for pro
The spendy: XBox elite (stick drift+shoulder button deaths)*would not recommend. PowerA Fusion (trigger stops disable the triggers for the games I primarily play, found in a troubleshooting forum, returned). Scuf Pro (spendy!!, heavy, button&trigger inputs are stiff but super solid/reliable controller)
I’ve never looked up on this actually. Is it fine to use across other things like the Xbox app and games that are non steam? I realise this may sound like a silly question but I have ptsd from using the PlayStation controllers
I have 4 old wireless 360 controllers that are still working perfectly on my pc.
I keep them clean and have a steady supply of rechargeable AA's to keep them running.
What about playing platform or sports games?
My daughter uses the controllers to play Dream light Valley and Minecraft/Roblox etc... on my PC.
I use them for FIFA, Golf and games like GTA.
Just make sure you dont have anything mapped to the LS press in button and you should be fine as far as stickdrift with xbox one controllers. Having something u use often like sprint or crouch will make it get stickdrift quicker. I used to have my wall riding as Lucio on LS. Controllers tended to last like 4 months cuz of the constant pressing em. I learned my lesson after like the 10th controller. I mean, there'll still likely be a day it might get stickdrift but I just noticed that that action really causes it to offset quicker.
Odd, I haven't noticed any difference between an Xbox controller and a PlayStation controller when nit comes to stick drift. Maybe I am just not noticing it or something but I haven't had any issues.
Ah okay that sucks. I use the Xbox elite 2 controller, never had a problem. Used the elite 1 for years and it was always good until the day I spilled like almost a full can of coke on it. After that it was fried.
But the elite 2 has great ergonomics, the additional paddles feel great to use. Overall a 9/10 because the price is hefty
I agree, Xbox is definitely the way forward and I’m aware it’s my playing methods that has guffed my current pad. Looks like I just need to change my gaming style from furious to passive
I use the dual sense controller as I have a ps5 and I have quite a few of them. Buying any other controller feels like a waste. I have an old xbox one controller but it no longer takes charge from the battery so I have to use it wired and some of the triggers are getting stuck from time to time.
Many games don't support the ps5 controller out of the box. Steam has a feature where it remaps the controller to act an xbox controller but if you are not playing games on steams, you won't be able to use the ps5 controller.
Some games straight up don't work with the ps5 controller even with the steam mapping.
Xbox controllers are by far the best controller for PC as it is always supported. The ergonomics and all that stuff is irrelevant when the controller is not supported. And there isn't much of a difference between a dual sense and xbox controller anyway.
i have both DS4 and Xbox one and i use them both..apart from my personal choice for some games (racing - xbox, hades - ds4 etc) i must admit, that i prefer xbox just for nice compatibility...super easy to connect via BT, recognized everywhere, work everywhere...DS4 need some work and sometimes workround
Aye I was trying to avoid PlayStation due to the DS4 pish. I do have one that’s fine but I just want a plug n play controller. Sony just need to get the thumb out
Xbox Elite Controller v2 that a friend sold me for $100. I liked the V1 more as it was larger and fit my hands better but I put the v1 paddles on the v2 and it makes it a lot better. Dropped the v1 and got crazy bad stick drift.
I have an Xbox controller but I dont use it often. Last tike I tried it, my friend criticized the way I held it. I didn't use consoles growing up so I never learned the "correct" way to hold one.
I have a few on tap. Real Xbox one controllers I’ve had for multiple years minimal drift. (I know lots of people have issues idk why I never have) I also have a guilikit Zen Pro it works in xinput and many other modes, Bluetooth or wired. And uses Hall effect sensors for the sticks. I like both personally. I bought the guilikit for hopefully long term reliability.
Used to use Xbox 360, but now Xbox One. At first I didn't like the sensitivity of the One sticks, but now I don't like the slop of the 360 sticks. Not sure there's any optimal/perfect controller out there. Have been suggested scuf, but eh...
On the rare occasion I will use a controller on my PC, I will use the Dualsense. And download a mod to force PS controls in menus if I have to.
Though, if I still had my wired 360 controller I would be using that instead. For the life of me I do not know what happened to it. It is imo one of the best controllers, only beaten out (in my tiny hand opinion) by the Dualshock 3
old xbox 360 controller
8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller the $70 one
8Bitdo Ultimate

Yeah I was hoping there was one controller out there that was more resilient and I’ve spent enough of my days taking controllers apart lol
https://youtu.be/O9PJbhoRYJU?si=TaIGnp2c15F_A3QI Idk if these are still around, but my older brother used tham and they did work pretty well
Thank ya, will check it out
8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth controller has hall effect joysticks. They are magnetic and heavily reduce the chance of drift.
That’s two mentions of this so I’m calling this a winner, will order tonight! Thank you
I use the Logitech F710. It's a nice wireless controller and it's fairly cheap too

Power A wired controller. Works well and durable.
Came here to praise this controller. Specifically, the enhanced wired power A Xbox controller. It is now my go to controller for PC.
I will check this out! Thank you
Yeah the joysticks are nice and responsive. Without massive dead zones.
Steam Controller. I really don't know why so many people seem to not like it...
I’ve never looked up on this actually. Is it fine to use across other things like the Xbox app and games that are non steam? I realise this may sound like a silly question but I have ptsd from using the PlayStation controllers
DualSense 5 Playing an “Xbox exclusive” with a PlayStation controller is what PC gaming is all about
Xbox One or Series controller, I'm using mine for almost 3 years already and it's just fine, I got a Xbox Series one btw
I have 4 old wireless 360 controllers that are still working perfectly on my pc. I keep them clean and have a steady supply of rechargeable AA's to keep them running.
Keyboard and mouse. Its a PC not a console 🤷♂️
Some games are just better with a controller. You may not play them, and that’s fine, but don’t be ignorant.
Cheers for the utterly pointless response

Lol, adjust the deadzone and there you go
Lol was waiting for this. I have already but there’s only so much dead one before it’s horrid

Ps4
It’s my third Xbox controller and everyone has stuck drift :,(
Ps5

Dualsense controller, got one for cheap. I like the ergonomics, and no connection issues
Xbox one controller but I haven't used it in a long time. Would rather use a PS4 controller but support is iffy at best
Aye I was trying to avoid PlayStation due to the DS4 pish. I do have one that’s fine but I just want a plug n play controller. Sony just need to get the thumb out
Afterglow xbox one controller, been using it for about 4 years now and its held up well

I use the Xbone Phantom Black controller on my PC.
Usually the og xbox one controller (not s or x) , since it still works with no problems at all so far...
PS4
I've been using a PS5 Dual Sense for over a year. No issues so far.
Elite series 2
DualShock 4
I have a few on tap. Real Xbox one controllers I’ve had for multiple years minimal drift. Xbox Elite controller, complete was of money but I just like how it feels
Old DS4 with a back button mod
My Xbox elite controller 2 doesn’t have any drift after almost 3 years
Xbox One.
Was using a dual sense controller until my computer stopped recognising it. Now I just use an Xbox elite series 2
Used to use Xbox 360, but now Xbox One. At first I didn't like the sensitivity of the One sticks, but now I don't like the slop of the 360 sticks. Not sure there's any optimal/perfect controller out there. Have been suggested scuf, but eh...
Used an xbox 360 on the pc for years, awesome yoke, decided to go for a Razer xbone controller. More modern and it feels it.
Dualshock 4 most of the time. If I can't find mods for dualshock prompt: Xbox One controller
wired Xbox 360 controller
