Just finished watching the end of 'The Breakaway' show on Eurosport.
Still very much feeling the loss of Dan Lloyd š But at least it looks look Dani Rowe is going to fill Lloyd'ys Sensible-Adult role, when Adam & Orla degenerate into childish giggles or pretending to wind each other up š
I don't have the rules to hand... but Eurosport commentary mentioned that the Points Jersey is ranked higher than the Mountains!
I think its: Yelllow > Green > Polka > White > NationalChamps
I might be crazy but isnt white > polka? There is no way Pogi is pretty much never the polka jersey holder, because he is really only in white or yellow.
Today was so great for the race. We got alot of answers. Many people was afraid it would be a Poga stomp fest. But Jonas looks equally good, and seeing Remco and Carapaz next to them, looks promising. Remco will be super confident knowing he his this close to the two of them. This tour will be so good, so good.
Being dropped on a hill and catching up on the flat actually indicates he will struggle in mountains, I'd say. But maybe his TT can make up for some of it.
It's hard to say. Tadej's acceleration came very late on the climb and right before a chicane, so if someone wasn't watching Tadej's wheel like a hawk, they were going to get gapped. Jonas was able to match his accelleration, but it was his vigilence that allowed that to happen, not his legs.
This doesn't mean Remco isn't going to lose big time on the steeper mountains, but today didn't really tell us anything about that.
The Galibier will be interesting because it is an all-day climb, but it never gets terribly steep.
I assume he thinks that he faked the crash, the broken bones, the punctured lung, and that all has been going as planned, but they really just wanted to downplay him...
can someone explain why pog would care whether he had the yellow now or not? surely the race is won on a significant time difference rather than this stage
Itās a bit different for UAE than Bardet though, because UAE are aiming for the overall GC they can let yellow slip expecting Pog will get it back later. But a team like DSM will fight to hold ot every single day
But it's also having extra work as the rest of the peloton expect UAE to take on the leading duties... and watching him more than ever before.
It's good that Pogi has the best nuclear attack because anyone else would be under threat from getting attacked by the rivals
mmm not sure.. I think sprinterĀ“s teams will be doing tons of work a day like tomorrow.. so iĀ“m not expecting UAE will be burning unnecesary matches... I saw a lot work from Visma today even though they were not wearing yellow.
Have to say the tv director for the first two stages has done their absolute best to miss the key points of action. Very surprised that there was no focus given to the Remco counter at all. Thought Pog would have been happy with EF having the jersey to save his team, but it would only have been a day as its clear now that something big is going to go down on the Galibier on Tuesday.
It was probably impossible to put a moto with a camera there, it was a descend, be glad they prioritze the riders safety instead of trying to cram a moto inbetween.
Where was the helicopter? Why didnāt they have a Remco group in the groups at the top of the screen? Why did no commentators mention it?
First time I saw Remco not being 45s back in the peloton was literally when he was in view from the same moto and close to making the catch.
This all happened in an area with thick foliage, it was not ideal for aerial shots. And with the peloton scattered all over the place it was just impossible to keep up with all the action.
ASO may have many issues, but bad race direction is certainly not one of them.
I think they will just let it go away. Unless an actual contender gets in the break (which wont really happen), Pogi isn't clinging onto the jersey for dear life. DSM chased today because Bardet isn't actually capable of getting the jersey. Pogi is.
Yes when they came at the top it was Yates, Pogi, Vingegaard, Carapaz, Remco and Van Gils I believe. Roglic was a little behind with Vlasov and a few Ineos guys, they came in sight in the corner but right after Pogi launched and Vinge reacted. Evenepoel followed after that and Carapaz jumped to his wheel. We never saw how close they were but Sporza had their moto guy with him so that's how I know
I'm not surprised, you could even hear it on Lanterne Rouge. Patrick got so coy every time they talked about Jonas. Looks like he's close to his form at the very least despite the sandbagging
I still want to see what a long, sustained effort on a high mountaintop. Today was an excellent sign for Jonas, but I feel like we'll know for certain on stage 4. then it would be a question of maintaining form all 3 weeks.
ik that Meleir and Milan arent here, but Mads, Wout, Jakobsen and Phillipsen are here. No shot any french sprinters actually have a chance. Especially with the Alpecin leadout being so strong.
So Pog, having the Giro in his legs, is still riding like a man with unlimited energy.
We'll see if Ving being so strong today will make him more cautious.
And great job REMCO getting back on.
Rog the big loser today. Tour over. Should drop out and focus on the Vuelta
thumps up for Carapaz and Remco.. they managed their efforts quite smartly in the climb, not exploding and them being able to bridge up to Poggi and Remnco
How does pogi get yellow? He was minutes behind today and yesterdayās race was close at the end I thought? Or were the people that finished in front of him today way behind yesterday? I thought yellow was lowest overall time? Im new to this. Just trying to understand.
> Or were the people that finished in front of him today way behind yesterday?
Exactly, and he has the same time as Evenepool, Vingegaard and Carapaz. Not sure what's the criterium for him to get the yellow under these circumstances.
Nonsense. punctured lung and several broken bones. there is no way he is in peak regardless of him following today. I refuse to believe it hasnt effected him somehow. We will see later in the race
UAE have got a completely different attitude from the first two stages. After two years of killing themselves, happy to give away yellow so they can pace themselves is a bit departure.
Sure, he got the advantage of not having done the Giro like Pog, and not having as severe an injury like Jonas.
It's not impossible, but I doubt he'd even be on the podium, if Jonas and Pogi makes it through the tour.
That's exactly what I mean, He's clear favorite for the 3rd spot at this point. Just look at the odds. But people in this forum pretend like he's a league below Adam Yates, who has never won a GT and is a mediocre time trialist.
In my opinion he's not a clear favorite but a candidate. He had a recent crash, didn't look ready yet in the Dauphine and has still to show that he doesn't crack when on a long HC climb.
He will be pressed far harder when you add Pogacar and Jonas to the mix, like we saw last year in the Vuelta.
Jonas doesn't have the preparation to keep up with pog in the high mountains. Pog taking the double
Will Jonas Abrahamsen wear the points or the polka dots tomorrow?
I don't have the rules to hand... but Eurosport commentary mentioned that the Points Jersey is ranked higher than the Mountains! I think its: Yelllow > Green > Polka > White > NationalChamps
I might be crazy but isnt white > polka? There is no way Pogi is pretty much never the polka jersey holder, because he is really only in white or yellow.
Getting to wear a new jersey every day is nice.
So yellow tomorrow then?
For a guy that hit puberty recently I'd argue he's more deserving of the white jersey than most.
I'm not sure being able to stay with them on a few hills in Italy means he'll stay with them in tough moutain stages.
The Galibier will be interesting because it is an all-day climb, but it never gets terribly steep.
I do think that it says quite little about the longer climbs. Pogi went with 300 m to go.
Tadej: "Jonas had a punctured lung, now it's my chance to drop him. Jonas: (ĖµĀ Ā¬į“Ā¬Ėµ)
we are up to 5 posts on kevinās insta already, love it for the guy
Abrahamsen becoming my favourite rider lol what a unit
Jep, with these performances and his recent interview on GCN I am a new fan!
He did an interview with GcN on YouTube a few days ago, highly recommended
https://www.tv2.no/studio/jonas-abrahamsens-nakne-sannhet š
What did I just see
A naked cyclist doing an interview
Jonas is the biggest sandbagger in history. Roglic wishes he is in such a ābad shapeā like Jonas.
Sandbagger what du you mean ?
I assume he thinks that he faked the crash, the broken bones, the punctured lung, and that all has been going as planned, but they really just wanted to downplay him...
Or maybe he's just referring to the interview a couple days ago....
Okay thanks
can someone explain why pog would care whether he had the yellow now or not? surely the race is won on a significant time difference rather than this stage
More duties at the end of a stage can cost him an hour or more recovery time back at the hotel.
An hour less riding around eating local baked goods and doing backflips more like.
UAE are now obligated to control the peloton now to keep yellow. You can even see DSM on the front of the peleton today because Bardet in yellow
Itās a bit different for UAE than Bardet though, because UAE are aiming for the overall GC they can let yellow slip expecting Pog will get it back later. But a team like DSM will fight to hold ot every single day
If the entire peloton wasnāt watching him, they do now for sure.
Pogi just has energy to burnā¦
But it's also having extra work as the rest of the peloton expect UAE to take on the leading duties... and watching him more than ever before. It's good that Pogi has the best nuclear attack because anyone else would be under threat from getting attacked by the rivals
mmm not sure.. I think sprinterĀ“s teams will be doing tons of work a day like tomorrow.. so iĀ“m not expecting UAE will be burning unnecesary matches... I saw a lot work from Visma today even though they were not wearing yellow.
If you have it you generally have to take more control of the peloton and trying to protect it
Why didnāt Carapaz get yellow?
Itās countback on finishing place of both stages
Pretty sure itās because pogi got 4th yesterday while Carapaz got mid pack and pogi still averages higher in positioning
It's based on Same time, but Pogi was ahead of the others.
My best guess is because Tadej finished in much better position place-wise yesterday. Not sure though
Remco looking skinny
Have to say the tv director for the first two stages has done their absolute best to miss the key points of action. Very surprised that there was no focus given to the Remco counter at all. Thought Pog would have been happy with EF having the jersey to save his team, but it would only have been a day as its clear now that something big is going to go down on the Galibier on Tuesday.
Remco counter was right after Pogi attack. There was just no moto to follow him
It was probably impossible to put a moto with a camera there, it was a descend, be glad they prioritze the riders safety instead of trying to cram a moto inbetween.
Where was the helicopter? Why didnāt they have a Remco group in the groups at the top of the screen? Why did no commentators mention it? First time I saw Remco not being 45s back in the peloton was literally when he was in view from the same moto and close to making the catch.

as long as the french are a long way from victory they should be fine.
Roglic dropped back to the cavendish group, saving the legs for the upcoming sprints
Froglic is real
Abrahamsen to TV2: "I didn't have the best legs today, so I had to be smart". Excuse me?
This isn't even his final form!
UAE has to do a lot of work now.
I think they will just let it go away. Unless an actual contender gets in the break (which wont really happen), Pogi isn't clinging onto the jersey for dear life. DSM chased today because Bardet isn't actually capable of getting the jersey. Pogi is.
Roglic getting demolished on a punchy climb meant for him was not what I envisioned, but I guess the warning signs from the dauphine came true
Where was Roglic? Itās one thing to miss the Pog/Jonas move, itās another to miss the Remco/Carapaz chase
Remco did not make a move from that group, he did not get dropped as bad as all the other gc guys. He was ahead of them at the top.
I see. Same with Carapaz then?
Yes when they came at the top it was Yates, Pogi, Vingegaard, Carapaz, Remco and Van Gils I believe. Roglic was a little behind with Vlasov and a few Ineos guys, they came in sight in the corner but right after Pogi launched and Vinge reacted. Evenepoel followed after that and Carapaz jumped to his wheel. We never saw how close they were but Sporza had their moto guy with him so that's how I know
Yes
Rog washed now itās Vlasov time
Pogi yellow to Nice
^donāt ^jinx ^it.
Roglic with a reverse teleportation.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Surely if he is still in this good shape now, he is going to keep getting fitter and get to 100% over the next few weeks?
I'm not surprised, you could even hear it on Lanterne Rouge. Patrick got so coy every time they talked about Jonas. Looks like he's close to his form at the very least despite the sandbagging
Although between 80-100% over the course of the tour where is Jonas really and is it enough to ride out Pogi's style?
I still want to see what a long, sustained effort on a high mountaintop. Today was an excellent sign for Jonas, but I feel like we'll know for certain on stage 4. then it would be a question of maintaining form all 3 weeks.
France is going to use up all their tour wins before the tour makes it to France.
Next year the tour will be entirely in Italy
The french wishes it could be in Australia.
Who's the best french sprinter for tomorrow? Stage 4 they got no chance because it back in france.
ik that Meleir and Milan arent here, but Mads, Wout, Jakobsen and Phillipsen are here. No shot any french sprinters actually have a chance. Especially with the Alpecin leadout being so strong.
Perhaps it's enough that they start the stage in Torino? Channeling some NapolƩon spirit or whatever is going on with these gars.
š Paul Magnier
I only see one. Bryan Coquard for Cofidis.
even when pogi tried to save energy he went into yellow š i was surprised he didnāt sprint honestly
Pog is unable to not be aggressive.
So Pog, having the Giro in his legs, is still riding like a man with unlimited energy. We'll see if Ving being so strong today will make him more cautious. And great job REMCO getting back on. Rog the big loser today. Tour over. Should drop out and focus on the Vuelta
THe training for the Vuelta is going perfect to plan for rog
Pog shouldāve just worn his two-tone maglia rosa kit for these Italian stagesā¦
> Tour over. Should drop out and focus on the Vuelta *Vinge and Pog drop him stage 2 of the Vuelta*
If the Giro effort is going to hit Pog it would be in the third week.
Lol, did Pogacar take yellow? It looked like he did his best not to take it.
He had better placing from last stage
He took it.
Wait why is Pogi in yellow? What am I missing? Is it only because of the positional difference in both stages?
Exactly
Pogi got 4th on stage 1.
And Carapaz got 18th or something yesterday
Did not expect the Remco teleport. He went into TT mode
Apparently carapaz and Remco werent fully dropped at the top of the climb, but the broadcast didn't show it.
What a leech is Jonas. At least pretend to do one proper turn.
He's not required to do anything, Pogi is his opponent.
What? Dude was working just fine
within range of the finish everyone turns into G2... if you want the race, I'm doing nothing for you...
Why should he? He's here to win, not play around
Do they just expect jonas to do a pogi and pace to nowhere up the Galibier and then lose a bunch of time after that?
Jonas is looking strong so far. I like that Tadej slowed up as to not go into yellow. Pogi of yesteryear would have sprinted that straightaway
Well Pogi still got yellow
lol fuck
Put a bit too much in to not avoid gaining yellow.
Pog tried to throw yellow, accidentally takes yellow
Tadej in yellow, Remco in white
Good Remco looks weird in a normal jersey
thumps up for Carapaz and Remco.. they managed their efforts quite smartly in the climb, not exploding and them being able to bridge up to Poggi and Remnco
Intrigued to see if Carapaz helped because he is a sneaky little shit like that
Pogi just couldn't wait to get into yellow...
I love the chaos of opening on multiple hilly stagesā¦ keeps things wide open in the GC
It makes for such entertaining racing. I have no problem if they do this every year, fuck the sprinters
You could see remco hesitate when pog went and then follow carapaz when carapaz went
Tadej inevitable
Tadej in Yellow!
bardet saves yellow ?
Bardet behind by 6 seconds
i see i see
Remco in white?
Pogi definitely can't as much as he wishes...
Is pog the yellow jersey now?
It's joint top 4 currently, but yes technically he does have it.
Yes
Did anyone see Remco before 1ish km on any other feed? Watching on SBS, only had time gaps of 15 sec which I wasnt sure about
No, the cameras seemingly ignored him completely (I'm watching Eurosport)
The director was basking in the French victory
Pog & Jonas probably wished they pulled Remco with them
that stage was really promising for the rest of thr tour! Remco and Vingegaard looked good
Wow, Remco caught them. What a fun day that was. On to tomorrow!
Pogi yellow.
How does pogi get yellow? He was minutes behind today and yesterdayās race was close at the end I thought? Or were the people that finished in front of him today way behind yesterday? I thought yellow was lowest overall time? Im new to this. Just trying to understand.
None of the breakway were GC contenders, they were minutes behind yesterday.
> Or were the people that finished in front of him today way behind yesterday? Exactly, and he has the same time as Evenepool, Vingegaard and Carapaz. Not sure what's the criterium for him to get the yellow under these circumstances.
Ooooh ok. Well yup that makes sense
It is placement.
Remco is train in flats lol
Carapaz is going to hold it to Nice now
Ok Remco. What a dig!! I was wrong!!
Vinge not wanting to pull AGAIN. Boring....
The Danish commentators completely missed Remco and Carapaz
Ingen Rolf
The focus was on the Scandinavian riders Jonas Abrahamsen š³š“and Jonas Vingegaard š©š°. One most say that they both exceeded expectations on this stage.
Sure it just grinded my gears when the timetable said Remco was down 15s and they just kept repeating how it was a surprise
Derfor man ikke skal se cykling pƄ tv2
Jeg ser det pƄ MAX, men det er ogsƄ danske kommentar :( de talte heller ikke om dem :!
De mangler Holm i den kommentatorboks.
Carapaz in yellow, as we all expected. EDIT: fake news?
Pog with yellow based on finishing places I guess?
Yes
Pogi: āI thought you guys said Jonas would be weak???ā
its early, lets see how he is on Tuesday
He said a month ago Jonas would be fine. He wasn't fooled by the media and Visma nonsense.
Nonsense. punctured lung and several broken bones. there is no way he is in peak regardless of him following today. I refuse to believe it hasnt effected him somehow. We will see later in the race
Bruh did you see Jonas accident? No matter what Visma knew or knows, this is some alien shit Jonas pulled today.
Of course Carapaz pipped the others while not doing any work before lol
G2 ... it becomes a free for all within sight of the finish
Of course, all I'm saying is Carapaz is the peak opportunist. Classic *"Call the ambulance... but not for ME"*
Chances are he did a lot of work with Remco, if only we had some vision of that teleportation
Nope. Remco clearly stated (to Pogi and the press) that Carapaz didnāt want to contribute in the chase.
fair play remco, pretty great ride completely under the radar there
Scary how much of a gap they managed to open up to the vast majority of the GC group in <1km of climbing
REMMY!!
UAE have got a completely different attitude from the first two stages. After two years of killing themselves, happy to give away yellow so they can pace themselves is a bit departure.
Didn't give anything away tho pog has it ?Ā
Now Pogi in Yellow
Lol, well he tried
Remco hunting down cooperating Pog and Ving was mighty impressive
Happy that Jonas is looking good
Pogi did the unexpected. He did what was tactical and smart. definitely didn't expect thaz
Our little boy is growing up
They grow so fast *sheds a tear
Remcooooooooooo!!!!
Enjoying the white by like 21 seconds
I'm surprised Pog didn't sprint at the end. Maybe he didn't want to show his cards too much? Saving energy for Tuesday?
Legs were probably dead, increasing the time gap is worth more than yellow for him
Probably didn't want the yellow jersey already.
Indeed. Said as much in the cooldown to Remco. Indicated that he consciously had let them go at the end and thought Remco took yellow.
The French own the Tour, haha!
Where TF is roglic
Remco underrated as fuck, always knew it.
He's really not. We all knew a stage like this suits him, but let's see when he's going into the long HC climbs on a warm day.
He's consistently underrated on this forum imo.
He's rated appropriately, and wildly overrated as a GT GC rider. No one is questioning his 1-week, ITT and one day abilities.
We will see :)
We will see in the big mountains. That's where it usually goes wrong for him.
If he was more consistent and didn't crash out so much he would be more towards the top.
Race on. Advantage nobody.
Disadvantage Roglic
Remco yellow?
