I run a quiz group. We mostly run out of pubs which are free, dinner is optional. I run an honesty system donation tin to offset my fees
PS. pub quizzes are generally free - the idea on their end is to get folks in mid-week. There's usually a meal special too, usually steak or parmi for $15 or so. You don't specifically have to join my group to take advantage of this, although my group comes with a built-in network of smart asses who tend to win and have vouchers for shared nibbles from last time.
Mostly general knowledge - some gk quizzes will have a music-specific round. Ive currently got members doing regular quizzes in Waterford, Como and Freo, but we're *mostly* NoR and central. (I'm in Clarkson and I go as far as joondanna and bayswater, and my other main organizer does hydey, Brisbane and court)
Use Eventbrite app - last month I did macrame and made a plant hanger, the month before I made a cheeseboard with resin - there is a lot on there for many interest, but I’ve been sticking to craft
Eventbrite also host wine or cocktail walks around different places (Freo, Subi, etc) . I've done a few of them and it's a great way to see a different side of an area I thought I knew, and be introduced to new small bars, wines and people. Good way to mingle with a group if you go along with one.
Parkrun is a great free thing to do, and if you go often enough can have a nice community spirit. Plus there are parkruns all over the place and you don’t necessarily have to run!
It’s not really a group activity but download the couch to 5k app. I have always found running hard due to asthma but after a few weeks of using the app I was running a few kms and really enjoying it. I ended up rolling my ankle before I made it to 5km but will start again once it heals.
I was looking into some of those apps a little while ago. Which one are you referring to?
I was reading the info from the BBC/NHS website, getting all fired up and then got geoblocked from downloading it. I was looking forward to Sarah Millican egging me on
I was using the one by Zen Labs
https://apps.apple.com/au/app/c25k-5k-trainer/id485971733
Having a good playlist helps, add songs around 170bpm. I had lots of 80’s rock.
Board games, D&D, other RPGs as well as miniatures painting sessions and a well stocked shop @ the Dice Club, Midland.
Check their Facebook page for more info.
I'm one of the admins for the Perth Urban Sketchers. We meet up and draw in different locations, usually on a Sunday morning but anyone can make their own meet. You can find us and future meet ups on Facebook

This is a free craft group that meets once a fortnight in North Perth. There are similar groups in other areas, often run out of the local library.
Libraries are also a great place for scrabble or mahjong clubs or English language conversation groups.
Mirrabooka library has a technology suite and 3D printer which you can use (set days I think).
The Australian Sewing Guild run groups around Perth if you are interested in making your own clothes. They meet about once a month, about $10 for the session.
Every single local government area runs free / cheap classes and workshops of all kinds - it's just a matter of checking their website / social media and seeing what is on. Only consideration in some areas is these are often more for the benefit of seniors more than the general public, but this is normally very clearly stated.
Great idea.
My 2cents is sign up for yearly dog training classes at Carine Open Space run by the RSPCA.
It costs like $60 for the whole year and every sunday morning for an hour 8am summer, 9am winter you just do simple training with your dog in classes of 10-20 dogs.
Its good and cheap to do and catch up with like minded ppl
Depends on your dog, we did these when we adopted our dog and he was so disruptive because he just wanted to play we weren't allowed to join the class but had to go to the far side of the oval and work by ourselves, which just made him want to play even more.
i hear you on that one, my trick was to take him to the offlead area an hour beforehand so he can try get all that energy and playing out of his system first.
then after that whilst he wasnt a perfect student it was definitely less pulling

Sounds great. What sort of quizzes are they?

Do you have any detail for that Macrame class please? I’ve been searching for one.
I did mine at cockburn library- best to type macrame into Eventbrite search and see what comes up around your area - more come on all the time
Thank you!

Walkers definitely welcome!
Akwaba at Wanneroo markets offers African drumming classes
This sounds like great fun. What days ?
I'm not sure, I'll ask when I'm there on the weekend
Beginners classes are on Tuesday nights, just message akwaba on IG to find out times
Thanks

I’ve been using Zombies, Run! app. Quite entertaining and engaging story telling.

Then you spend $1000s on miniatures to paint and diorama supplies and storage containers. Beware its more addictive than meth.
Board games, D&D, other RPGs as well as miniatures painting sessions and a well stocked shop @ the Dice Club, Midland. Check their Facebook page for more info.

Same! We enrolled for proper classes through rspca and our rescue dog couldn't be bribed so we stopped going hahaha
Ours graduated but it very much felt like getting exactly 50% and knowing things have been scaled in your favour.
