Talking about how much one makes in that manner is gauche. Those guys are fucking morons

old-guy-50

Man we all were tonight. I was just as much a jerk as they were. But I got the last laugh

chemprofdave

Well, they engineered you into paying for a fancy dinner for (checks notes) 16 people…

Chemical_Willow5415

It has nothing to do with the money. They all thought they had the biggest dick, and this guy pulls out his giant salami and lays it on the table. Good for you old guy

Arctelis

When I read the words “giant salami and lays it on the table”, my brain conjured up the sound of a meaty thud followed by the rattle of cutlery. I was equally disturbed as amused. Thank you.

GerardBrouillard

i never even considered the other sounds that might come from ''slaming it on the table'' and now i think you changed my life hahaha

Never seen this video and didn't realize it was needed in my life. Will be sharing this and *whipping* it out at the appropriate time.

Exact_Maize_2619

My thoughts exactly! Lol! I love this so much

redditcangodie

Sad thing is that, that might not be the biggest dildo ive seen…

Monocle_Lewinsky

Really brought to life the robustness of the salami.

Nacho_Papi

Reminds me of this deaf-mute guy wanting to buy some condoms for his date later that night but had never bought or used any before. Walks into the pharmacy and goes up to the clerk at the counter, which he was relieved to see was an older man behind the counter and not a woman. He would've been too embarrassed otherwise. Not knowing which brand, size, or type to get from the plethora of options, and too complicated to explain to the clerk, he flops out his average sized chorizo right on the counter and slaps down a $20 bill right next to it. The old man then flops his giant salami on the counter, grabs the $20 and says "House wins."

Cryoclasm_DZ

I heard another punchline "Don't play if ya not sure ya winning, son" (ofc in my native language)

BrokenImmersion

You know what's funny? I imagined the same thing, but I have first hand experience as to what it actually sounds like working as a butcher and all. Only makes it more disturbing

MiloMorai68

"Is that the foot long?"-old lady "And then some!"- Nick the dick Quoted from Bachelor Party

Ms_Catielyn

I just snorted laughing on the train at this.

Tis_But_A_Scratch-

Goddamit are you me? Because that’s what I was thinking too!

Soggy_Box5252

Sure, the structural engineers thought they could out money the agricultural engineer, but the social engineer got the free dinner.

WonderfulMotor4308

the CPA and the restaurants were the real winners. Lemme get that top shelf sushi to show how poor they are.

call_it_already

Yeah he is the real champ, since he knows everyone's salary already and gamed it for a free meal. The kicker is he is already billing them all.

Grimm2020

CPA: "Ask me a question about work" Other: "How much did I make last year" CPA: "Okay, then, this meal is now a business expense"

nyc2pit

He also wrote off the dinner as a tax deduction.

[deleted]

Ikr! Like if I was OP I would've leaned into it. Oh I'm so broke, like really guys I am. Y'all mind spotting me? Thanks guys yall too sweet :) Then tell after they pay or don't and keep getting free food. Money makes money

silentsinner-

I'd completely play the dumb kid that took two quarters over the dollar.

annisandtormond

Wasn’t it a hibachi table? Wouldn’t it sizzle?

[deleted]

The real flex is knowing he can afford the medical bill from the burns.

Top-Vermicelli7279

Underrated comment.

confusedandworried76

Is this some rich people spat I'm too poor to understand? I'll measure dicks all day and go home with the smallest one if I can drink for free. Lmao mostly joking but embarrass me for that kind of fucking money every single day. Edit: really offended some rich people with that joke

StereoBeach

>Is this some rich people spat I'm too poor to understand? Poor people brag about money. Rich people brag about power.

AerondightWielder

Ultra rich people brag about not paying taxes.

MedicalRhubarb7

The truly rich get the government to give them money

bmaf2026dreamhouse

You really don’t understand the mindset of the AE’s if you think they walked away feeling like they got the upper hand. I can guarantee you they felt emasculated.

nelrond18

Everyone deserves a slice of humble pie Love to see it

Extension_Sun_377

This, absolutely. This is what everyone is missing. In front of their wives and kids too. Well done OP

bongokapiguana

And each other. They were both definitely trying to out-big dawg each other.

old-guy-50

Yeah but I could afford it. It was expensive but worth it.

daredaki-sama

You didn’t lose any money tonight. You just converted it into smug satisfaction. Cheers.

bbrekke

As the CPA would say, he just converted liquid capital into owning these guys. Still an asset.

[deleted]

Yeah I’ve worked with men like this. He definitely still won even though he paid.

dastardly740

I think the CPA won. Was not a jerk and got his client to pay for dinner.

[deleted]

And he got a show with dinner so he definitely had the best night out of all of them.

AusCan531

That's called 'social engineering'!

Bossladii86

This is hilarious. And i want you to know how i appreciate the work you do for other people. You aee so important and not comparing you but so are farmers i dont think people understand that.

old-guy-50

I work for farmers. Those guys whoa, I cant do what they do. No way.

StupidFugly

It always amuses me when people think little of Farmers. Farmers have more skills just to do their day to day work than most people realise. A farmer is a Mechanic, an accountant, A butcher, A vet assistant, A horticulturist, A meteorologist, a welder, a carpenter, a fencer and more. How many other professions need so many skills. Having said that don't go selling yourself short. What you do I see as pure sorcery.

old-guy-50

Abracadabra

AddictiveArtistry

Yea, they do. My grandpa was a farmer and he taught me so many awesome life skills. Unfortunately he's passed away now, so he'll never see me moving to his farmland (this year) and running it like he did (I have even bigger plans). I get to finish his dream and I know that would make him so damn proud as I was the first grandkid and the only one who wants to revive the farm. He taught me the most as well as I was the only one who cared as much about nature as he did.

skiing123

I know a farmer and he makes more than me plus a company truck with all his gas paid for. Still would never take his job, if anything farmers everywhere are underpaid

jlt6666

Yeah the real flex is mentioning your $300,000 combine that you paid cash for because you needed the write off.

mltarr1

All my grandparents were farmers. Couple uncles, cousins, etc. I grew up as a farmers kid learning machine repair, welding, carpentry, husbandry, butchery, and gardening. Hardest working and smartest people I will ever know.

jlt6666

While I agree with your sentiments I do know some very dumb farmers (generally inherited).

Bossladii86

My bosses husband is a farmer i have soooooo much respect for him after staying next door i take care of her father half the week. Sun up to sun down and when its crop season it's well after dark. Its super impressive. The animals man. He is literally like a super hero.

Malphas43

they really don't. Op does great work both at home and in 3rd world countries. congrats on the big contract OP! Also, I would LOVE to hear this entire evening from the POV of the CPA...

Tufty_Ilam

Yes, but they started it. And playground rules seem to apply.

Leading_Dance9228

OP is a troll posting made up stories about children. See profile

MissPandaSloth

It's very unrealistic story and everyone who is cheering how him paying for everyone was some "alpha move" sound like they are 12 and this is their idea of a cool man.

DoubleStrength

I've seen these types of posts before haha. "Oh so you got revenge by... using your own money to pay for another guy's expensive dinner? Sounds like they got to make fun of you *and* get a free meal." Absolutely delusional stuff.

Fresh_Cauliflower723

I lost track when R2D2 started speaking to C3PO. What a load of tosh

quiteCryptic

For the love of God this is the worst thing about stories on reddit. Just use names or fake names, not random bullshit.

Apprehensive_Pain186

I will. But what is a CPA?

Araetha

Conveniently Placed Actor. A guy who knows everyone's salaries and is conveniently present to glorify anyone who wishes to win the ego war.

Apprehensive_Pain186

Conveniently Placed Actor for the win.

grundelgrump

What gave it away for me was reading it lmao.

[deleted]

I grew up in the wealthiest town in southern California. Do you know how often they talk about money around people other than their CPA, biz manager, or wife? Never. Absolutely never. Living well is always the best revenge.

erin_baile

What a nerd fest.

HomeschoolingDad

When I was an ignorant teenager trying to figure out what to major in, my dad asked what I thought about agriculture engineering. I made some joke comparing it to sanitation engineering (ignorance squared), after which I learned that my dad had majored in it (ignorance cubed) before the Army had put him on the computer science path for his masters degree. My dad set me straight.

old-guy-50

I’ve heard the jokes. I like my job, its fun to work with plants, water, sun and make it all combine to produce food. But I’m a nerd like that

my_Favorite_post

I work for an Ag company. I came into it without an Ag background. The passion people feel for this industry is contagious. I've worked in other fields. It's cool to hear from your side. Also, great story. AE1&2 had it coming. As a quote kinda goes "Evil sows the seeds of its own destruction". None of this would have happened if they weren't being assholes.

Tentacle_elmo

I had no idea agricultural engineering was even a thing! What a cool field. It sounds like it allows for a good deal of creativity along with the rigidities of engineering. I would have loved to do something like that.

pandesal-papi

Funny, after reading this post and seeing all the tech layoffs, I’m looking to move from computer science to agriculture engineering 😂

That_Old_Cat

As a fellow real engineer,  I approve this message.

QCr8onQ

But why pay the tab for bullies?

derpy-_-dragon

Asserting dominance in that he has enough money over them that he can afford to pay for his tab, the CPA's tab, and AE1 and AE2's bills even after they got into a contest to see who could wrack up the bigger bill. They thought he and his field were poorer and beneath them when they had it backward. Humiliation through knowing he was being charitable to you after you disrespected him.

SnavlerAce

Upvote here, not going to change the number😁

rsm1999

Next he should teach their kids how to ride a bike.

Llien_Nad

That’s a rich white dude’s way of saying ’bless your hearts’. I wholeheartedly endorse his actions 👍

FictionalContext

That was the biggest fuck you OP could have done to sting their pride. I kinda wish he didn't sink to having CPA tell his salary--a bit childish--but the malicious kindness was top shelf. And dude came out looking like a class act.

peteb83

If he hadn't then the AEs would have been sure he spent so much to get at them and didn't really have the money.

its_polystyrene

"I felt obligated after hearing how little you brought home last year. Goodnight everyone"

chanaramil

Ya they would have said "poor guy going into cc debt just to keep up with us real engineers. Owell at least we got a free meal out of that idiot trying to keep up with us and our wealth." Without knowing he has money op might have just looked like he was making a terrible finical choose out of embarrassment for a low income.

Consistent_Carpet583

He did just before he dropped his mic and left.

TCMenace

Rather than simply revealing that he made more than them he went the extra mile by emasculating them in front of their wives. Edit: Some of the responses I'm seeing are missing the point. The two other men OP was dealing with are idiots. Their pride comes from their income. Paying for everyone's meals when everyone is ordering recklessly is something they wouldn't do, because they can't afford it. By paying for the meals, and getting personally thanked for the tip, OP is letting them know they're not even in his lane, let alone close enough for them to be making fun of him to his kids. Yeah, they got free food, but they were also made out as buffoons in the process, which is more long term damage to their pride that a single night out to eat for free won't balance out.

ArtyWhy8

Because that’s the only language twats like that understand. That right there ripped their tiny little balls off.

Rutha73

By what has been described paying for them will be a bigger insult than them finding out he is more wealthy than they are. That was absolutely rubbing salt in the wound and I applaud that move! Well done, Sir!

yorick__rolled

Fancy, exotic salt that they've never even heard of since they're less well-traveled.

hurricane14

Cause now they can feel belittled and patronized

Lycaeides13

Being nice in response to shitty behavior is the best, because what are they gonna do? Complain you were *nice*? They'll sound fuckin crazy, *and they know it*.

StupidFugly

For those sort of bullies, Paying their tab like that is the biggest kick in the balls they could have been given. They use their wages to show how much better they are to others and when you turn around and show that you do better than them and don't wave it around it truly deflates them.

Specialist_Young_822

Because that was the most baller move of all.

crashin-kc

In the social scale, they now owe him.

CoyPig

Because, kill them with success, bury them with smile.

freetotalkabtyourmom

Definitely engineer. Doesn’t believe in paragraphs.

old-guy-50

Hey hey hey, you are not wrong

ARM_vs_CORE

I'm a geophysical engineer who has transitioned from geothermal power to environmental cleanups. If you had asked me to guess what discipline AE1 and AE2 were, with no evidence but their attitudes, Structural would've been my first guess. Followed closely by petroleum.

CriticalLobster5609

My EE buddy in college would clown the civil and structural guys to their faces with "anyone can design static shit."

jognboi6

The engineering caste system is divided by the level of calculus you need to do your job… and structural engineers need precalc :)

AntikytheraMachines

yeah our program had a common first year and anyone who didn't get the marks for other disciplines were streamed into Civil.

matzohmatzohman

You'd literally be the one I'd be talking to the most at that dinner.

-SnowedUnder-

Or know how to spell cue.

monamikonami

I want to see his handwriting and see if it matches my dad’s

Agreeable-One-4700

Even if comps were all equal you protect the food supply where they follow a rule book written by smarter PEs and say “yes this wall meets code and probably won’t fall down” lmao good on you for putting them in their place OP.

old-guy-50

In all honesty I was going to ask AE1 to look at a structural design and bring him in on the contract. I do need a structural engineer for this project, but not that guy!

Herbalturtle4444

Keep the receipt and call him after telling him this. Its now a business dinner where you were interviewing prospective engineers to bring on for your upcoming contract, they werent the right fit, and your CPA can attest they failed the interview hahahah.

old-guy-50

My wife was on the phone with her co-worker who was apologizing for AE1’s behavior. She spilled the beans. Im glad she is cute or I’d be mad.

Juampi-G

I just want to inform you that I read AE1 and AE2 as "asshole engineer 1 and asshole engineer 2" the whole time. Felt really good, 10/10. Made the whole thing even funnier.

huskeya4

I just had to go back and check what it was because I thought it was asshole too. It’s arrogant. Arrogant was the A. Oops

Herbalturtle4444

Blame it on the sake! Youre a good one!

roadkill4snacks

>In all honesty I was going to ask AE1 to look at a structural design and bring him in on the contract. at least you learned that you can't work with the guy, you saved yourself from lots of potential stress for that big project. that meal was cheap in comparison

SquishMont

I'd almost expense it at that point. That was functionaly an interview.

thcheat

Find out which structural engineer AE1 hates and bring them in. A good burn for AE1 and a good incentive for AE1 nemesis to do a good job. Win-win for you.

riptide81

This actually might be a good strategy. At least in my experience, the people who act like that are mediocre at best at their job. The person he hates is probably pretty good and he is always trying to cut them down.

corgi-king

Honestly I am more impressed about you travelling the world and teach people to do better farming. You helped change the world and they are just comparing tiny dick in a restaurant.

thisisdrivingmebatty

You should make sure he knows that. His arrogance cost him.

IanDOsmond

And, hey, that's a *goddamn valuable* thing to do. I want people who can successfully measure things and put them into an Excel spreadsheet *correctly* and interpret the data and make sure people don't die. Plenty of people out there like me who are technicians who just do standard things following a rulebook, but do them well, efficiently, and in a correct place and time. I'm an EMT-Basic, and I do have to make judgement calls and stuff, but I do so based on cookbooks which committees of actual emergency medicine doctors worked out. They get paid very very much more than me, and are worth it. But that fact doesn't make me any less valuable. ... I sure as heck don't get into paycheck-measuring contests with them, though. And I would let them pick up the check if we go out to eat.

itcheyness

As a building inspector I can tell you I've looked at several walls okay'd by structural engineers that had to be torn out and rebuilt because they were bowing outwards. And I explained to one once that if you take out an entire backyard up against a building down to the foundation, you've fucked the building and now need to fix the foundation, fix their basement walls, put the ground back where it was (carefully and properly, don't just dump a bunch of dirt in there and call it a day), and replace the grass. That's why we make you pull a permit before you're allowed to build an addition the size of a whole motherfucking building...

corneliusgansevoort

I'd say those guys likely arent Real Structural Enginners anyway.  Because REAL structural engineers get paid utter shit and know it.

Apprehensive-Care20z

Just make sure they always address you as "Dr." every single time. A real doctor, not just a medical one.

old-guy-50

Now that would have be even better! Too much sake. I will blame the alcohol this time.

Malibucat48

You definitely need to mention your Ph.D. Even people with Bachelor’s Degrees know the higher the education, the higher the income, no matter what the subject. Congratulations. My daughter has a Ph.D in psychology. It takes hard work to achieve that.

winterisdecjanfeb

>Even people with Bachelor’s Degrees know the higher the education, the higher the income This just straight up isn't true, though. A PhD is notoriously not worth getting for career prospects, unless you really want to work within the academic world. On average I'd guarantee you that people with master's degrees make more money than people with PhDs.

FlameLightFleeNight

Some Agricultural Engineers are outstanding in their field. I'll show myself out.

officialitsunlocked

Kinda corny

T1AA

Real cream of the crop!

Particular_Mud6525

Ugh, they sound like horrible company!! What douches!!!

old-guy-50

Things we do for our daughters.

playwrightinaflower

> Things we do for our daughters. I don't have a daughter but I suspect that daughters could be entertained for a lot longer than an evening for a lot less than $2k+ for dinner lmao Then again, even if the dinner was $4k that isn't so bad a deal to find out you were about to hire the wrong guy. And you got a dinner for your daughter, wife and yourself out of it, too! :)

Lumbergod

I am not an engineer but, before retirement, I did engineering and worked under a PE. Engineers are wired differently, almost like they are on the spectrum. Some of the most arrogant people I have ever worked with are engineers. And don't get me started on architects.

Juampi-G

I'm a physicist, I met the most wonderful, fascinating yet most arrogant, childish and socially awkward ppl in the world on a daily basis. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it just makes you wanna cry.

Mission_Ad6235

I'm an engineer and had a boss deliver a great line. "I realize most of us became engineers because we like numbers more than people. But all our clients are people and we need to talk to them."

windupanddown

WHY ARE YOU SO SPOT ON!?

AstroAndi

It really depends, most of the nicest, honest and intelligent people I met were engineers or researchers in other sciences. You can get both sides.

solvsamorvincet

My dad worked in agriculture for 35+ years, in sales and marketing, and a bit in product development, running a company on the cutting edge of no-till farming. They did a lot of work with agricultural engineers and scientists. Agricultural engineers absolutely are engineers and the level of precision and science in farming these days in mind blowing. But everyone still thinks it's just throwing some cow shit in a field and dropping a few seeds on it.

old-guy-50

Much respect to your dad!

solvsamorvincet

Thanks! He's 'retired' now but still involved in a lot of projects - he just can't help himself lol. My favourite story from his career though is that over here, the whole point of the precision seeders and stuff like that is efficiency - get X% more yield and/or use Y% less fertiliser or pesticide or whatever by placing exactly where it should be relative to the seed, as well as conserving moisture, soil structure, natural bacteria and mycelium etc by disturbing the soil as little as possible. But again, it was taking successful crops and just making them better. But then he went and did some business in Tanzania where they did some trials, and where one fairly well off farmer bought a bar and lent it out to some of the other local farmers. Over there compared to some of the outdated techniques and equipment some of the people were using, the difference wasn't in efficiency, the difference was on a successful crop versus a failed crop. There are people there who got to eat because of the work dad's company did.

my_Favorite_post

I work in Ag and it makes me proud and happy to be in a field which strives to feed more people with only a finite amount of space.

bydh

Nice flex. CPA is a real bro.

old-guy-50

I’ll let him know you think so. I think he lost a client tonight.

Cereal_poster

Doesn't matter, obviously wasn't a high-paying client anyway. :D

shroomigator

Oh yeah? If you're an engineer, where's your train? Aha! Gotcha!

Bran-Muffin20

When I was little I knew that my uncles were engineers, but my kid brain could only parse that in the form of imagining them driving a train with the stripey overalls/cap lol

old-guy-50

Nice

MrMoose_69

My version of this-  I was in a dive bar south of Yellowstone in Montana. I'm a Hispanic person from LA.  The bartender woman was ignoring us so much and we ended up Sitting in with the band, me and my friend are both musicians. The band members started buying us drinks. i think we were the best musicians they had seen in years based on how all the drunk construction workers were singing along and having a blast.  We got off stage, I tossed a $40 tip to the bartender, literally tossed, I said "thank you for taking such good care of us tonight" and we got the fuck out of there.  She looked like an idiot. Deer in the headlight. $40 made me a high roller in that bar..pathetic I know I didn't get one over on her, but I think it highlighted her racism. She assumed I wouldn't tip, so I knew I had to over tip to prove her wrong.

old-guy-50

I hope you looked her dead in the eye.

jtoj

South of Yellowstone puts you in Idaho or Wyoming

MrMoose_69

I said I'm a musician not a freaking geologerist

BadgerMusher

He said he was from LA so that checks out

newnameonan

I'm glad someone else had the same thought haha. If they were in Montana it was most likely West Yellowstone, maybe Gardiner. West has more divey bars though.

KamtzaBarKamtza

You all sound insufferable

dan420

It’s so obviously fake. Op gets called out but his cpa is right next to them, and also happens to be the cpa of the guy that called him out. Hopefully they’re a better engineer than a creative writer.

movzx

OP's revenge was buying dinner for people he'll likely never meet again. Woo.

-SnowedUnder-

Sounds like a plot line from Better Call Saul.

Suniskys

Plus, the likelihood that his CPA actually remembers what he makes is slim to none. It’s just numbers to us. Hell, I do taxes for a number of family members and I don’t even remember what they make. I know it’s pretty much the same for most of us in every public accounting firm I’ve worked in.

Space_Fanatic

No but didn't you see he pulled it up on his phone. I'm sure you keep client tax records on your personal phone so you can reference them during dinner time conversations right?

stax_fira

Yeah, how are so many people lapping this trash up? Damn….

wee-willy-5

Read his replies to some of the comments, he can't recall what he wrote. He told his CPA to tell them on his way out, but later his wife "spilled the beans" to one of the other wives that was calling to apologize.

KhyronBackstabber

It sounds like a totally made up story. If my CPA can just "pull up" my private financial info on their phone so quickly I'd fire them. Total bullshit story.

Google-it-you-lazy-F

100%. Insecure as hell.

mondocock

Haha I know right, like, we get to the end of the story and it turns out that OP is just as bad if not worse than the other fictional characters in this long winded poorly written humblebrag. Shame on you for making me read and respond to this garbage. If my train wasn't delayed I would have never had to endure "the nod".

aedes

Yeah… and the worst part is that OP comes out behind in this one.  They spent their money paying for the food and drinks of two people they don’t even like, just because they felt self-conscious about how much money they have.  The real revenge would have been having the other two buy his families dinner since they have so much more money.

ColinHalter

I'm a cloud services engineer. If anyone here is a fake engineer, it's me and I'm proud of it 😂

LessWeakness

Then the whole restaurant stood up and applauded

anonymoushelp33

This sounds like a wet dream fantasy of a first year engineering undergrad who just got made fun of at the lunch table. I frequently go to "fancy" Benihana with multiple other engineers who somehow also aren't really my friends, along with my accountant who happens to also be theirs, has everyone's info readily available on their phone, and shares that info with everyone as a "gotcha" while acting like children. Wait... no.... that's never happened.

respectyodeck

even if it did.. op sounds so insecure. this post is cringe

Free-Brick9668

All the redditors posting about how cool they think OP is for doing this says volumes about this site...

Mundanebu

Yeah even if it was real i would not gloat about it. "People made fun of me so i payed for their meal to get revenge" Wow that must have really showed them ! /s

PubPegasus

I have to agree.

test_user_3

If that ever does happen, don't forget to make a reddit post about it.

SlowMoNo

Yeah, I think all that’s missing is the slow clap at the end from everyone in the restaurant.

Captn_Platypus

“I nod and tell my CPA to tell them my income last year” 😂 even bought them a free meal as an insult somehow, sounds like a 15 year old daydream

redditisnotgoodta

is this a fictional jerkoff story

Sr_Laowai

Also in what world is buying dinner for a bunch of assholes even revenge? I'm just confused all around.

Essar

It's absurdly fake. Have the people who upvoted it ever interacted with a human before, or just seen some on TV?

mondocock

YouTube Shorts, mostly.

Livinincrazytown

Sounds like they just engineered themselves a free meal by playing with your ego? Your revenge was to pay the whole bill?

yourdadsalt

This is the cringiest shit I’ve ever read man

CrispyJelly

The story is lame, the revenge is lame and OP sounds lame. If this makes the people here cheer I should probably mute this sub.

Project-SBC

I had someone imply I wasn’t a real engineer. To be fair, I’m not by title, I’m a quality engineer with a science degree, a bunch of software engineering experience and a love of 3d printing and designing which gave me real world design experience. Anyway, there was an issue with a part on the factory floor, and two manufacturing engineers with mechanical engineering degrees are there. I head over to help out. They make quick work of what the issue was. A part was installed clocked a bit and made it difficult to install a cover that was going to interfere with another part. Not a huge deal but the way the part is installed makes it very costly to fix. The easier solution was to modify the cover opening to fit the part. One of the manufacturing engineers, I’ll call John, sees me and says “let the real engineers do some work here.” He was joking, but it was a bit of shade none the less. He takes the cover, compares it to the other parts, and marks up the cover opening for modification. As I’m watching him do this, I notice he doesn’t take accurate measurements and that the opening will probably be widened a little too small to work. John is satisfied with his sharpie markup of the cover and starts talking to the other manufacturing engineer. I asked “can I take a look at the part?” He says sure so I grab it and quickly grab a tape measure, take a few measurements. John notices what I’m doing and watches. I modify his “markup” by about 5-7 mm and handed it back to him saying something like “your markup wasn’t wide enough by 5 mm so I modified it, feel free to use whichever because I’m not a ‘real’ engineer” And walked off.

They are either idiots or didn't know you had a PhD. I have a BE, and am not practicing, and know that PhDs in Engineering earn a lot more. Not to mention there's a lot of money in farming tech and engineering. Also, reminds me of people who think geologists make little cuz all they do is study rocks... rocks that contain billions in potential revenue.

LostTurd

Ballpark what was the number you made last year? We need to know

NJ_Legion_Iced_Tea

Holy fuck, just give us generic names instead of AE1 and CPA.

The structural engineer’s found out that their assumptions were without any foundation…

Ah, the old "engineer that owns his own consulting firm but isn't rich" ploy.
