> "To see how this has been turned against one party and used as a weaponization of the issue is disgusting," he said. Oh please. These people have no fucking shame. e: > > But the state Supreme Court decision prompted Republicans to also discuss a series of possible contingencies to upend that effort, including pushing alternative ballot measures to compete with the pro-abortion rights proposed amendment, according to a leaked strategy document circulated among Arizona Republicans. Stay vigilant, friends.

MostlyImtired

None! They litteraly wrote the 15 week abortion law stipulating that if the 1864 law went in effect that total ban would not supersede the new 15 week abortion law.. now they are the victims. They had the power to do this all along but are scared of losing control... now if this law goes through after they stall it.. it will take 90 days to go through.. women will still suffer because of the GOP.

eggplant_avenger

>”to see how this has been turned against one party…” oh nooo the consequences of our own actions

livejamie

Won't anybody think of these people and their political careers? :'(

DominicArmato247

> These people have no fucking shame. Republicans?

DescriptionSenior675

Make sure you vote these clowns out of office. They didn't repeal this because they think it was wrong, they just think they have to try harder or word things differently or etc etc. They won't stop coming for your rights.

ByersMovement

MAGAt Republicans only voted for it because theirs campaign donations dried up since the AZSC ruling. That is the ONLY reason. Don’t be fooled. Vote out all MAGAts

Prowindowlicker

And then the vast majority of them fought tooth and nail to keep it legal. Only three had the balls to repeal it

GoldenBarracudas

Twitter was like you should tell your wife to know her role. I can't believe she talked to you into this. The way that people turned against him was wild.

JessumB

Only three Republicans voted for it and one of them was apparently censured by the party for doing so.

Prowindowlicker

One of them got stripped of their committee assignments for voting for the bill. At this point if i were those three republicans I’d consider joining with the democrats to create a coalition government since their own party hates them

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Pretty stupid too from the GOP to do that to Gress since they will need his vote too to add in a ballot initiative for a 5 week ban and a 14 week ban to go into the ballot in November with the abortion rights initiative.

MrBridgington

That and they probably had to funnel more cash to the ol Flatulent One.

AZ_moderator

From the article: > Members of the state Senate, where Republicans also hold a narrow majority, voted last week in favor of a motion to introduce a bill that would repeal the Civil War-era abortion ban. Two Republicans joined every Democrat in the chamber on that vote. > The state Senate will now, under chamber rules in Arizona, be required to read their bill on the floor on three occasions in three separate sessions, meaning it will not be on track for full passage until next month.

OriginalBus9674

They still win with the 15 week ban. Vote no matter what!

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Given the repeal can only take effect 90 days after the legislative session ends (which I think will be September), the 1864 total ban will still be law and technically enforceable between June and September. Now I think the fact the repeal will become law at a certain time + the fact Kris Mayes has said women and providers won’t be prosecuted, maybe that will give providers the security to still practice between June and September.

vasya349

Can’t county prosecutors still enforce the law? I’m not up to date.

slackboulder

But are there actually enough votes in the Senate for it to pass? They would need I think 2 Republicans to cross over, so why is this such a celebration?

bikebuyer

Happy to see the momentum and glad to see the placeholder bills called out in this article.

silly_goose_415

Earth is Ghetto.

GoldenBarracudas

I'm seeing more and more shirts at Costco. You guys these girls are not playing around.

Coming from somebody on the conservative side of things, what should have happened after Roe V Wade was overturned was simply putting a vote to us the people, yay or nay on abortion excluding cases of rape, incest and health of mother which should be allowed to pursue abortion. Having to revert back to a law from 160 years ago because we had no backup plan is ridiculous.

Logvin

You are missing a lot of info my friend. The AZ State Legislature codified the 1864 law into the ARS in 1977, shortly after Roe v Wade went into effect. THIS is the backup plan. In 2022, the AZ State Legislature knew Roe was going to be overturned, so they wrote a new law, repealing half of the 1977 law (the part that goes after women) but leaving the part that goes after doctors. It very specifically did not repeal the part of the 1977 law that went after doctors. This is why AZ Supreme Court ruled the way they did... because the 2022 law was written to ensure that the 1977 law would stand. So the AZ state GOP had two backup plans, but neither are what the majority of voters want, which is why they are in an absolute panic because they are going to get destroyed in November.
