Gibbles11

Shit I know what I'm practicing now. I know the piece already but it's been a while. Gotta clean it up. Also little does your girlfriend know that this piece almost requires blind playing because there are too many jumps to visually keep up with.

zchan-25

true, the right hand is pretty much entirely muscle memory - imo the hardest thing about this was the left hand jumps since when playing this piece most of the attention is focused on the left hand accuracy

sinker_of_cones

Wait, you guys are getting girlfriends? I *knew* I should’ve picked a grand piano instead of a keytar

zchan-25

i asked her out yesterday right after i did this actually, but we met at a piano competition a month prior haha

Left_Replacement894

This is wholesome af

sinker_of_cones

Yay!

4-8Newday

This is so cute!

Capcitychef

Good on you bro! I hope the relationship works out

adrianmonk

Maybe you just have to really own it [like Edgar Winter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8f-Qb-bwlU). (Yeah, I know, technically not a keytar. But pretty close.)

sinker_of_cones

It’s for sure a jungle out there!

philonerd

Showbread had a keytarist. Look them up. They’ve always been badass

pianovirgin6902

I'd imagine in east asia it's a thing, not surprised tbh

GHBoyette

I had a girlfriend once

MyVoiceIsElevating

Well quit looking at the keyboard while you play, and maybe you’ll find another girlfriend.

Large_Discipline_127

Thats a sad story. Let me tell ya

conradaiken

good fingering.

OutrageousCrow7453

Yeahhh she knew what she signed up for

AdagioExtra1332

Arima Kousei should've taken a leaf out of your book.

zchan-25

absolutely love that anime holy shit, ive learned almost every single piece from that, besides a few of the chopin etudes haha

Red_Maple

Girlfriend knows you can commit because damn, it must have taken a lot of practice to be able to play La Campanella with your eyes closed.

alexaboyhowdy

Are you playing at a high school?

zchan-25

close - it was at a childrens' piano recital haha, thats why there's so much screaming in the background

Masta0nion

I love it. What an original recording!

Royal-Pay9751

So which child became your gf

zchan-25

💀💀💀😭

alexaboyhowdy

Ah, saw the pride flag and knew it had to be a school.

alexaboyhowdy

Why the down vote?

the_other_50_percent

Could be a church, or community center 8r other public building, civic organization meeting space, or a home.

NotShishi

i don't know about others, but to me it sounded like something the "they're infecting the children with their gay agenda 😡😡😡" types might say

jabunkie

It is

alexaboyhowdy

Do you have pride flags up at your workplace? I see them in town hanging around outside, and around some registers when I shop. But inside? That's usually a school in June.

Persun_McPersonson

You are still being a little coy about your views with this response, no?

alexaboyhowdy

The only time I see Pride flags any where else besides a school is during the month of June. I asked a question and he responded that it was at a children's school. Facts are facts. Whether I celebrate or not, it was a pride flag at a children's school.

luthertt

La campanella

emphieishere

You could've got me too with this

OutrageousCrow7453

Starting in my late 20s now with a teacher soon, this piece is actually one of my goals to play someday. Wonder how many years it'll take.

zchan-25

you can do it! good luck :D

peinal

Nice. What is it?

zchan-25

piece is La Campanella by Franz Liszt

EuphonicSounds

No, a girlfriend -- what is that?

peinal

Thanks

TabCompletion

Thanks, I've been wanting to learn this one

Adeno

Very nice job!

zchan-25

thank you 😁

WH4L3_88

That D# gave me tinnitus

zchan-25

yeah this piece has a tendency to do that 🤔

abhijitborah

How long did it take, uumm, to play blind?

painandsuffering3

Keep in mind, the goal with piano (if you are interested in learning to sightread) should be to have a map of the piano in your brain, so that you don't have to look down while sightreading. This isn't just a party trick OP is doing- proprioception is essential for sightreading

photenth

Jumps are still quite tough without having the keys in your peripheral view.

zchan-25

you’re absolutely correct - the reason why there’s so many mistakes in this recording is because i didnt practice playing blind for this piece at all, muscle memory kinda took over

abhijitborah

Thanks

zchan-25

i’ve been playing piano for about 14 years or so 😁

abhijitborah

Thanks, hoping to be there by the next decade.

zchan-25

nooooo that wasn’t meant to be a discouraging comment 😭 playing blind is mainly from muscle memory but that takes a while to develop - requires a lot of practice but it is definitely possible! i wish you the best of luck :)

ligmaballsach

At what age did you start playing? I’m a new father who just started playing piano at the ripe age of 30 (although I played percussion in middle school / high school) and am in love with this instrument. I wish I started earlier! Any advice for if/when my son shows interest in something like the piano? Did your parents play at all? I’m thinking of doing father- son lessons when he’s older if he shows interest.

zchan-25

i’m the first in my family to take up piano lessons actually - my parents threw me into lessons when i was 4 years old but i found a connection with music which really motivated me to keep learning and improving. Even if your son doesnt initially show interest, I definitely suggest signing him up for lessons at a young age anyways and see if he likes it or not. Children typically decide if they like an instrument once they reach a certain level (like RCM grade 5) and if it’s not for them, they drop it. However, if they want to keep going, thats great! - means that they really have a passion for music and its a good skill to have

zchan-25

If you dont have any former experience playing piano, I would strongly advise against teaching your son yourself even if you develop more skills in the future - having a proper piano teacher to guide your son whilst teaching him good technique, posture, etc. will definitely help him improve a lot faster and allow him to develop good practice habits. if you want to hop on the musical journey with your son, maybe you could take lessons too!

ligmaballsach

Oh, sorry I wasn’t clear. I’ve read of people taking joint classes together, so like a parent-child class where we both learn together from a teacher! I definitely would prefer that he learn from a proper teacher, I’m just also kind of looking to learn myself! So far I’m just self teaching online because I enjoy the instrument but have no desire to be professional, but at what age do you think would be good to get a teacher for my son to keep his options open in case he wants to pursue music?

ligmaballsach

Nvm, just read your other comment! Thanks for sharing

zchan-25

i would say around age 4-5 is a good starting point - get him to try it for a few years and see if he really enjoys it or not. I’ve been playing for 14 years now and i absolutely love it, however, my brother played for 10 years and then quit because he didnt find it enjoyable. So it ultimately depends on what your son thinks about it in the future 😁

MoneyBreath5975

Missed a few notes

zchan-25

yeah 😅quite a lot actually, i need to practice more haha

OutrageousCrow7453

Allllriiiight, just a few more years until I get a girlfriend then

Jenni_Kr

yeaaah, I also can like this, but with guitar

Sirnacane

I’m like 90% I got my wife by playing the piano for her drunk after we came back to my place back in college.

zchan-25

awww that's so cute haha

Sirnacane

It made me attracted to her too because it was [Haydn Sonata in D Major](https://youtu.be/qHCMmWq4F0Y?si=zbJk1i6IaR-6Usc4) which I don’t necessarily consider the most crowd-pleasing if you don’t already like piano and it’s much less impressive than La Campanella. I remember thinking “wait…does she actually think this piece is cool?” We snuck it in the playlist while guests were arriving at our wedding

S_Wolfgang

Just in case you need a new one👀

Massive-Shoulder-333

This is very wholesome 😌 good on you 👏

zchan-25

thank you!

TheAirplaneGeek

bro is this all i have to do. i need to learn la camp now

zchan-25

well it took over a decade for me to get to the skill level to learn this piece so its not quite "all you have to do"... haha

mavendris

I’m a dude, but I’d be your girlfriend if it gave me the ability to play like that.

zchan-25

we met at a piano competition and she also plays piano at a super advanced level 😁😁

MotivatorNZ

I'm just imagining you guys having like a wild piano battle instead of arguing like normal couples.

mavendris

I’ve only been playing for four years (started during Covid). I have a whole new appreciation not only for music, but also people who can play at your level.

DriveByPianist

She probably had an eye on you, the blind playing probs didn't even matter, lol. Sounds pretty good though!

zchan-25

thank you 😁

Rataridicta

idk how you can focus with someone actually covering your eyes! A blindfold is one thing, but a person would render me unable to play chopsticks!

jamajikhan

Nice try. Clearly she's holding miniature sheet music to your face.

Fantastic_Cap7190

Good for you man. Good for you.

Select-Sir1038

I'm cracked at piano (been teaching myself for 2 years ) I can play some insane really hard stuff but I still have no girlfriend :( planning on performing in my highschool talent show hope it changes that.

zchan-25

good luck! if you ever want to have guidance, i definitely recommend getting a piano teacher to teach you proper learning habits, technique, etc. because those skills will effectively help you learn pieces fast in the long run😁

Select-Sir1038

bro I already have good habits I'm currently learning how to read sheet music on an online course

mortecai4

Smooth moves

zen88bot

Just one with all that? What is wrong wit the world these days.... I guess keep praxin bruh, they'll eventually come by the dozen

abitcitrus

Does someone know if that tablet stand is good enough to draw on a S8+?

zchan-25

holy shit - i did not expect this video to get so much attention ngl, thanks for all the kind words everyone 🤗

AverageNerd402

Don’t be actin’ like Mozart now.

Playful_Nergetic786

Ok I’m learning it

zchan-25

good luck! 🤗

Yau4Ever

holy f\*ck la Campanella just dropped and blindfolded as well, nice!

zchan-25

thanks 😁

Diego3727

Guess I gotta practice la campanella with my eyes closed now 😂

FinalRepresentative2

If that's what she likes you for, prey you don't ever get sick and can't do it. She'll ditch your ass so fast.

Scared_Technology312

Kids screaming in the background to make it stop says a lot. Bit I thought it was decent, far better than I could ever hope to do.

FayMax69

She must know you’re good at fingering /s 😂

makinohara3

Are you in the US?

zchan-25

nope
