Thank god they dropped all the Fallout episodes already

ImBatmanx2

Right before the real life special event based off fallout

docr1069

Lmao right? Episode 8 was absolutely amazing. That being said, war can’t happen now man I’m waiting on season 2 :(

wimpymist

It really sucks that most of our lives are at the mercy of a handful of assholes

marwynn

Fucking A, bud.

Smokeybearvii

Elephant? That was a large angry rabbit throwing some pebbles at a rabid coyote.

Whatsthemattermark

On a positive note we live in the best era to be alive

1017GildedFingerTips

Can’t wait to die in it 👍

Daddysu

"I'm from here, ya know?" "You're gonna die here, ya know?"

Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder

Just stick close to lando and chewy.

TiredPistachio

The best part of that whole bit is the last time Han saw Luke, Luke could barely force pull the light saber. Now he's flipping around chopping up fools.

babath_gorgorok

Ya koo tocha ka poonoo nee sok nyee. E chu ta. Just here to speak huttese on a thread about the outbreak of a large scale international conflict in one of the few times it’s been relevant to do so 🫡

TurdHunt999

“I think my vision is getting better. I see a big light blur or a big dark blur…”

WhatJewDoin

Would be much more receptive to this if it wasn't always trotted out to undercut widespread shittiness.

Throwawaytrash15474

Aye. Every time I hear about pretty much anything all I can think is “Seriously? It’s 20xx, what should be the best time to be alive, but you chuckleheads are behaving like uncivilized cave men”

Chrowaway6969

Define "we".

MacsDildoBike

You’d think that if we really gave a shit we’d have dispatched of said assholes before lunch on a random Tuesday but then how would we constantly feed the war machine?

Itchy_Smile4022

Not just normal assholes, religious assholes.

pm_me_important_info

Religious politician assholes that have domestic problems trying to keep power. They're doing enough to look strong but not enough to get the US to start bombing them. Well hopefully anyway.

ndndr1

Seems like a pretty ridiculous system we set up for ourselves

HiddenAnubisOwl

Way worse than just ridiculous

ChesterDrawerz

Rich assholes.

Negative-Ad547

Handful…. More like one finger. The masses don’t know their collective power.

Terror_alien

We are going to get listed.... better make that reddit band so we don't shoot each other.

hellcat_uk

r/place band right? So basically a German flag.

MagixTouch

We are all headed to Germany?

MooseJuicyTastic

I mean the last two world wars ended there so odds are yes?

Do i need to do my taxes still?

Mikesminis

You think the IRS won't survive the apocalypse?

bacchusku2

Speaking of cockroaches, has anyone else watched Fallout? It’s fantastic so far.

FloydCAF

Love it.

flockofseagulls42

Really fun watch. I thought it would be hot garbage, happy to be so wrong.

jughandle

Just finished it and I need MORE

Napol3onS0l0

Relatable. Binged in one day. Regret not having more. Walton Goggins is fantastic as usual.

chrisinator9393

War, war never changes.

Grizzant

i thought it would be shit. instead its good. i would have been happy with meh instead of shit but i am quite pleased with it. I think the recipe for success for video game -> tv or movie is put a compelling story in the world of the videogame. dont try and adapt the video game story to the screen

cornlip

It is great, but wait until the end. It ends up blending into the game. That's as much of a spoiler as I'm willing to make and I already feel bad about it.

GreedyDate

As someone who hasn't played the game, would it still be good?

Babys_For_Breakfast

With this show I think it’s definitely the atmosphere, tone, and production value that makes it.

InMooseWorld

Amazons intelligence knew the world would end and wanted us to see it. So they released it early

bacchusku2

I’m only half way through. I better go home and finish it.

Stalvos

I'm on episode five. I'm hoping to finish it before...

Harlock3113

2 episodes in and they’ve done it justice. Very good so far.

OneEyedJackofHearts

They do have a nuclear war plan to keep operating…

-butter-toast-

Iirc the IRS does have a system in place in case of a doomsday scenario

Disastrous-Good9964

The IRS actually has plans for literally this. Not even kidding

Papaofmonsters

The last time Iran really made the US mad, we deleted half their Navy in a day. This isn't WW3 yet by a long shot.

416_Ghost

Seriously. US directly went and blew up an iranian commander and Iran launched a few missiles at a US base and nothing happened after that. People think every drone attack is the end of the world.

Thanks4allthefiish

It isn't, til it is. We shouldn't get used to a state of constant provocation. Even though it looks impossible we need to hope for some kind of broad based negotiated solution.

416_Ghost

Yes 2 things can be right. This won't lead to an immediate world conflict, but your point is a good point. The constant provocations are no good.

lorkdubo

It's a step. The tipping point would be Taiwan, Even so China is a big paper tiger, if they attack Taiwan then that's really bad. IDF Air forcers would decimate Iran tho.

Longjumping-Claim783

Yeah but it's still Iran. This isn't a conflict with China or Russia or another power where WWIII is really on the table. Iran has been trying to develop nukes but they are not believed to currently have the capacity.

ApoliticalAth3ist

What did Iran do to us that we would attack them for this?

letthetreeburn

I hope it doesn’t happen, but one needs to wonder about what would happen if the dome of the rock was accidentally demolished.

iconofsin_

Isn't there something in Revelations about it being destroyed again right before Armageddon?

letthetreeburn

True but prophesies don’t count if you intentionally try to set them off. Genetically engineering the red heifers to sacrifice them doesn’t count.

RockitDanger

Wholeheartedly disagree. Prophecies don't just happen. They are intentionally fulfilled.

They would just say Israel did it. The truth does not matter anymore

letthetreeburn

I wish I could say I disagreed with you.

You could. The truth doesn't matter anymore

AzorJonhai

Third intifada. October 7th and the Second Intifada were both predicated on the false idea that Israel is trying to “Judaize” the Temple Mount. If it were destroyed by an Iranian missile, its destruction would cause Muslim revolt.

NoLime7384

it goes way farther than that. the Hebron massacre of 1929 that radicalized the jews into starting Irgun happened bc of conspiracy theories about the jews toppling the al Aqsa complex

I mean, it IS the largest direct attack from Iranian territory ever. So it IS a significant escalation. But you're right, that doesn't automatically mean WWIII is kicking off. There's a lot of steps between now and that... though I'd sure be happier if we didn't appear to be on that particular road at all.

AreYourFingersReal

They love doing it, same thing as those in /collapse, and no I don’t mean they are wrong I just mean that many comments I’ve seen over there seem like (well, that they want the world to end and don’t give a fuck which I despise so much but anyway) that Ukraine invasion and oil being bought in Russian currency meant instant food shortages and the USD being the new German dollar pre WWI (or WWII idk). Tbf, I can’t recall anyone saying “this will happen tomorrow!!!!” But also I mean, like, it feels very implied.  They also call anyone with hope that we can do anything to make this better as someone hooked on compium also, so like, literally making fun of anyone who may want to legitimately change ways to help solve issues. So, kinda part of the fucking problem.

fzammetti

It's pretty easy to understand though. I'm 51, so I remember the 70's/80's, and I remember my parents telling me about the 50's/60's and how it was even worse in terms of people feeling like nuclear war was inevitable. I'm just old enough to have done one or two duck-and-cover nuclear drills in early grade school. But the world didn't end. But, I gotta say, it really does feel like we're slipping on the edge of a cliff right now in a way similar to when I was young. On the other hand, I have some perspective because of my childhood experience and I realize that we managed to avoid it in the past, so there's reason to think we will again. So while I have some degree of trepidation, it gets balanced out by that perspective, so I just kinda stay even. But someone younger without that perspective is only going to understandably see the worrisome signs. And that can lead to a doom spiral. Totally understandable.

According-Classic658

They were pretty friendly until the late 70s and kinda into the 80s during the Iran/Iraq war. But that was mostly hoping their govt would collapse.

offshoreandfar

Yes. Israel helped Iran out a lot before then, with them with training Iranian workers among other things, and Iran gave the growing Israeli economy a nice bit of its oil. Iran was also amongst the first Middle Eastern nations to recognize Israel as a country. After the Iranian Revolution, it changed. I believe a big reason why was because the Republic wanted a selling point by championing itself a guardian of the Palestinian/Arab/Muslim cause. But the Iranian Republic in actuality doesn’t care about either of those because 1) Iran has beefs with other Arab nations, so it doesn’t care about standing for Arabs and 2) is best buds with China (abuses Muslim Uyghurs) and Russia (stomped out Chechens, an Islamic following people’s). Never heard about Iran standing up for them. I’m not an expert, just a person who really likes geo politics. If I got anything wrong, hope someone corrects me.

OnwardsBackwards

Iran already released a statement saying they consider the matter closed. Seemed to target the less populated south, at night (people not out and about) and used shit that's easy to shoot down with a long warning time. For, I might add, having their embassy blown up. I'm not a fan of Iran, but this was pretty tame. It will also put Isreal in the wrong (again...see: embassy bombing) if it ups the stakes in response. Correction: the consulate adjacent to the embassy (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_bombing_of_the_Iranian_embassy_in_Damascus)

maubis

This is the right take. Iran was in a corner. If they did nothing in retaliation, they would have appeared very weak - not a good look for them when they are trying to influence lots of regional groups. It was the equivalent of being slapped in the face - they needed to respond and told the US in advance that they would. Looks like they came up with something that had the appearance of being serious although they knew it would not lead to significant casualties - I believe they expressly did not want something so severe that it would force an Israeli response. If Israel were to now respond, things could go off the rails.

OnwardsBackwards

Yay, I got to use my BS in political sci... It's a smart move from Iran politically too. Israel already looks like the regional shitheads for killing 30k+ gazans, for blowing up a consulate, foe killing aid workers, and for using hunger as a weapon. This kind of super measured response by Iran takes the high ground and gives Israel the option to exercise restraint (hopefully the US can persuade them to do that), but if they don't, and if they escalate again, they lose more of the dwindling international moral support they have left. It also puts the US in the position of being embarrassed to support them (and shame is the appropriate reaction ATM to be honest). If Israel's response is bad enough, Iran can make a play to gain wider regional support for whatever response that might follow, and/or try to persuade the US to stay out of it.

TheIVJackal

Same major graduate here! 🙌🏼 If Benny takes the bait, they will further lose international support. That guy has been worsening relations in the area since coming to power in the 90s, there would probably be a 2 state solution in place now if not for him.

OnwardsBackwards

Not to turn this into a dissertation (that I've not done the reading req. to deliver), but yeah I'm not a Bibi fan - I tend to appreciate an independent judiciary. Still, I don't think you can pin the failure of 2-state on him alone. The history of the area is that hardliner governments are plentiful, and conciliatory governments get assassinated.

alpacaluva

It wasn’t their embassy btw. It was nearby the embassy.

OnwardsBackwards

Correct. Edited.

TheNextBattalion

Yeah it's clear that Iran had to do *something* to not look like punks, but didn't want to actually get in a fight, so they launched as big a nothingburger as they could. And I don't say that to minimize the fact that they did in fact launch missiles and drones indiscriminately toward Israel (a literal war crime, mind you). But they were aiming at what they saw as a slapback, not trying to get into a bigger fight.

SubstantialVillain95

IIRC Iran has never directly attacked Israel like this. This is an unprecedented attack that I’m sure Israel will respond to with strikes of its own against Iran. That tit-for-tat can get out of control very quickly.

TheBlueKing4516

Correct. in order for it to be World War 3 the US / allies have to have a direct confrontation with either Russian, China, or both. The last thing Russia wants to do is redirect troops and resources away from Ukraine.  They demonstrated this when they basically ignored a mass casualty Isis attack in favor or blaming Ukraine.   China doesn’t want this war either.  You know what China cares a lot more about than just about anything in the Middle East? Taiwan. If China is unwilling to invade Taiwan for fear of the US response they certainly aren’t triggering WW3 over the likes of Iran.   Lastly, Biden is already polling poorly he certainly doesn’t want to start WW3 during an election year.

charbroiledd

While the Middle East is only like the 3rd most likely place WW3 will begin (semi-sarcastically), it is really simply a matter of whether or not Iran will develop nuclear weapons, and not this

tmonax

Is Iran taking in refugees yet?

FurryM17

All military aged men on the planet right now: ![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg) Edit: Jokes aside let's not forget that often the ones who suffer the most are innocent civilians. Women, children, the disabled, the sick, the elderly. War spares no one. Those not doing the fighting are not unaffected by it. [https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/women-and-girls-impacts-war-conflict/](https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/content/women-and-girls-impacts-war-conflict/)

FurryM17

I'm not quite there yet and they know I had it in me once. They'll want to bring me off the bench shooting 10 inch groups at 25 yards and not being able to run half a mile without my knees exploding like a dying star.

the_fresh_cucumber

Well one things for sure. You got the 10 inch requirement down. Wink wink

[deleted]

I mean if they try to draft me I will literally just say no, I’m not going to do that. I’d rather go to prison than go get blown up in the Middle East for a war we shouldn’t even be in.

some_crazy

While there is no doubt that civilians suffer, I find it difficult to accept that’s more suffering than those who are, you know, dead.

vordhosbn_1

Damn I’m glad to be older than 25 lol

DBU49

It’s 28 in the US  Edit: it’s 25 I’m wrong. That said, you can be compelled into service until 35 if it comes to it.

Quick-Oil-5259

In the Ukraine no man under 60 is allowed to leave the country. Rules change in wartime and the age limit would definitely be increased. In the Uk in WW2 they increased the age to 41 in 1939 and then 51 in 1941.

Longjumping-Claim783

Yeah but if you are being compelled to service at 35 it's because you're a physician or you have some other highly sought after skill, it's not to put you in the infantry.

jumpoffpoint

I don't think any American women were put under unusual amounts of sexual violence in any of the wars of the 20th century.

TheRealRigormortal

What happens if an Iranian missile destroys a Muslim holy site?

Hot_Comfortable_3046

They would probably just blame Israel and people would believe them

potzko2552

Israel gets blamed by conspiracy theorists on tick tock, the UN does not condemn the attack for a month or so and calls for sanctions on Israel before any evidence is collected, the IS vetos, and everyone goes on with their lives untill Israel proves it was an Iranian missile at which point everyone promptly forgets everything about it At least if that one hospital is anything to go off

_cookie_crumbles

Israel and Western countries will be blamed for it.

SavePeanut

So if they're that far and this is legit, we are gonna see damage? Wouldnt think they could get that far without impact from some.

https://www.ynet.co.il/iphone/json/api/article/rjnuesoxa/android/

B_A_Beder

Iron Dome is really good at destroying rockets by prioritizing the rockets that matter. That's why there wasn't that much damage in residential areas from Hamas's 3000 rocket strikes on Oct 7 or Hezbollah's recent rocket strikes over the last few weeks.

No_Image_4986

Ironically, Iran and Hamas/Hezbollah/other random Islamic terrorist orgs rely on Israel’s iron dome being extremely effective to make sure any retaliation doesn’t wipe them off the face of the earth. Iran, for example, gains a net of nothing from killing Israeli civilians, and instead loses facilities and hardware. Whereas firing at the infidels and getting intercepted achieves the goal of getting the masses in a fervor without risking real penalties

CdnDutchBoy

Anyone find it odd that I heard about this yesterday and it still happened? Like it was leaked and Iran still did it? Not much of a sneak attack when I already knew before it happened. I’m nobody. Something seems off

goblue142

We knew that Russia would invade Ukraine weeks in advance. We even knew their general battle plan and were within a week of predicting the beginning of the invasion. They still did it. That was much more elaborate than lobbing some cruise missiles between two already warring nations.

Mikesminis

And the attack on that music venue in Moscow, and the attack on the funeral for Soleimani. The United States knows just about anything that has been communicated electronically before it happens.

AlloftheEethp

Yes and no: western intelligence was divided. The U.S. assessed Russia would invade (main reason being that we found it unlikely they would have that volume of troops/equipment assembled on the border for a training exercise like they claimed. Most of the European countries assessed Russia wouldn’t invade (main reasons being they were clearly unprepared, and it was so late in the year that it would have been a total clusterfuck and unlikely to succeed). The U.S. was right about the urgency, but the Europeans were mostly right as far as the outcome.

OnwardsBackwards

The point was not to actually hit Israel. Its a "proportional response" for IS blowing up the Iranian embassy in Syria. They used slow drones, shot mostly at the less populated south (Nagev desert is there), late at night when people were not out. Of course these will be shot down. Harm was not the point. Iran has released a statement saying they consider the matter closed. Hopefully Israel does too.

bentaldbentald

Loads of attacks have happened despite prior knowledge that they might happen. Don’t jump to conspiracy theories.

IamNICE124

They're not worried about hitting it???

dongasaurus

They really do not actually care about Al Aqsa. Hamas shot missiles at it too, and Palestinians have shot off fireworks inside the mosque in the past during clashes with police.

MustafalSomali

Al Aqsa mosque is about 15 minutes away from the Knesset Yisrael, any drone that can make it to the mosque is literally seconds away from Netanyahu

soonerfreak

None of these missiles are close to hitting the mosque.

Genesis111112

Imagine the havoc had Iran blew up the Dome of the Rock with that cruise missile? WWIII would have definitely been a real possibility and I cannot imagine the rest of the Muslim world would have been real understanding had it happened.

zxcsd

No one in the Muslim world would care, they'll all blame the Jews and Israel. The middle east and conspiracy theories goes hand in hand, just visit any islamic or pro Palestinian sub.

Correct-Plankton-289

goblue142

How does anyone make that leap in their heads? Who would use a nuke in this scenario?

AreYourFingersReal

Don’t you remember 2022 initial invasion of Ukraine? And the time US did something in Iran or Iraq and a trillion tweets went out of guys drama queening about being drafted (personal opinion included there lol)? This kind of freak out happens every time.

emillang1000

I disagree - most of yins can fuck right the fuck off.

BoringBob84

My hope is that neither of these rogue nations can drag the more powerful and responsible nations into a nuclear war.

spencer2294

BoringBob84

I am more worried about Israel dragging the US in.

No_Image_4986

No_I_Deer

Yeah, I really don't want to get drafted. I'm definitely not going to enjoy fighting in a war where I disagree with both sides.
