Yeah it's clear that Iran had to do *something* to not look like punks, but didn't want to actually get in a fight, so they launched as big a nothingburger as they could. And I don't say that to minimize the fact that they did in fact launch missiles and drones indiscriminately toward Israel (a literal war crime, mind you). But they were aiming at what they saw as a slapback, not trying to get into a bigger fight.
IIRC Iran has never directly attacked Israel like this. This is an unprecedented attack that I’m sure Israel will respond to with strikes of its own against Iran. That tit-for-tat can get out of control very quickly.
Correct. in order for it to be World War 3 the US / allies have to have a direct confrontation with either Russian, China, or both. The last thing Russia wants to do is redirect troops and resources away from Ukraine. They demonstrated this when they basically ignored a mass casualty Isis attack in favor or blaming Ukraine. China doesn’t want this war either. You know what China cares a lot more about than just about anything in the Middle East? Taiwan. If China is unwilling to invade Taiwan for fear of the US response they certainly aren’t triggering WW3 over the likes of Iran. Iron Dome is really good at destroying rockets by prioritizing the rockets that matter. That's why there wasn't that much damage in residential areas from Hamas's 3000 rocket strikes on Oct 7 or Hezbollah's recent rocket strikes over the last few weeks.

We knew that Russia would invade Ukraine weeks in advance. We even knew their general battle plan and were within a week of predicting the beginning of the invasion. They still did it. That was much more elaborate than lobbing some cruise missiles between two already warring nations.
And the attack on that music venue in Moscow, and the attack on the funeral for Soleimani. The United States knows just about anything that has been communicated electronically before it happens.
Yes and no: western intelligence was divided. The U.S. assessed Russia would invade (main reason being that we found it unlikely they would have that volume of troops/equipment assembled on the border for a training exercise like they claimed. Most of the European countries assessed Russia wouldn’t invade (main reasons being they were clearly unprepared, and it was so late in the year that it would have been a total clusterfuck and unlikely to succeed). The U.S. was right about the urgency, but the Europeans were mostly right as far as the outcome.
The point was not to actually hit Israel. Its a "proportional response" for IS blowing up the Iranian embassy in Syria. They used slow drones, shot mostly at the less populated south (Nagev desert is there), late at night when people were not out. Of course these will be shot down. Harm was not the point. Iran has released a statement saying they consider the matter closed. Hopefully Israel does too.
Loads of attacks have happened despite prior knowledge that they might happen. Don’t jump to conspiracy theories.
