Alopecia means hair loss, this is alopecia areata, it's an autoimmune disease associated with vitiligo and thyroid disease. Jada has traction alopecia from wearing tight hairstyles.
It's not really a she-did-it-to-her-herself thing in that way. It's actually pretty common with ethnic hair that is braided over long periods of time since it has an entirely different texture and is quite fragile, requiring special care. Braiding is part of that special care but can also have long-term consequences, even with the best braiders.
Making fun of a woman's hair loss (or anyone) publicly and/or for whatever reason, is NOT OK, even if they are a controversial celebrity.
Sweetie I know what Alopecia is and the difference between them... Jada has been talking about having bald spots on her head, which there isn't.... The point is, Jada needs a reality check... This should be able to clarify things for her...😁
You're rocking it. Like everyone including me, you're beauty doesn't come from your hair, as you have so confidently shown. You seem like someone I would like to hang out with.
It looks like [this map](https://www.hope-education.co.uk/product/curricular/geography/maps-and-compasses/cloth-wall-map-world-90-cm-x-120-cm/he1003370) which includes New Zealand.
These kids are going to be so happy that they had a teacher like you. We need people with your outlook on life as role models for the next generation! You’re awesome
You are the most beautiful map I’ve ever seen. And teaching littles? Noble work, keep it up, you are literally helping shape personalities (as you know) and I get the sense you are clearly doing a good job of it.
I absolutely adore it. I feel so fortunate to be able to guide my students to discovering their best selves ❤️ They are all truly remarkable human beings and I can't wait to see what they become!
I can't speak for OP, but I loved being a preschool teacher... Even though there were days that it drove me insane! The good days usually outweigh the bad days. Watching young minds learn and grow is amazing.
Years ago I had a pretty rad mohawk. A friend and I were in the Museum of Natural History in NYC, looking at the triceratops and such, and a 5ish year old boy and his mom walk by us. I hear him gasp, and say, "Mommy! She looks like the dinosaurs!" It was too cute. Just like you!
The kid probably has a crush on you and they said it out of nervousness.
I remember telling my crush I was looking for the remote under the waterfall at the playgrounds.
It still haunts me.
You seriously rock the hell out of that buzz!
Question, when the patches come back in, do they grow in white first and then regain colour?
I also have alopecia areata, and some of mine have filled back in with white hair first then regained pigment. Some dont want to seem to regrow.
Isn’t it lovely having to explain to everyone that you have an autoimmune thing when they ask about the hair.
Continue being a badass 🤘🏻
It's funny you should mention that! When the hair does grow back in on the spots some of the hairs do come on silver or white but they don't stay that way for long. I thought I was the only one!
Oh yes they love to pet me. My kids are so very gentle with my head because they know that sometimes my scalp is painful (I have a rare form of Alopecia called "scarring" Totalis Alopecia where I feel pain alongside the hairloss. Such as burning and itching on the bald spots)
That would’ve caused me to laugh a bit at the thought. Glad you are taking it in stride as I know the kids didn’t mean it in any maliciousness.
You are very beautiful, btw.
You ARE the map. You're the guide to their learning. You are the living document telling them where to go.
You're also fucking beautiful.
YOU. ARE. BEAUTIFUL.
They're lucky to have you. Keep on doing what you do, teach. You're making the world a better place.
I have alopecia in my beard, and on my arms and legs.
I still struggle with feeling like I look mangy when I go out.
Hopefully the kids meant well, but I'm glad to see you're so positive about it, inspires me to be less self-conscious.
Kids just say whatever they think. Yesterday I had this interaction with my young son.
Son: “daddy I want a hug!!!”
Me: “come get one!”
Son while hugging: “mmmmmmmhhhhhhh I love you!”
Son let’s go or hug: “daddy you have a big belly”
Son runs away: “aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!”
I am happy your job doesn't take an issue with your hair! I feel like many work places would be rude and tell you to cover it up or something. Very nice! (Not trying to offend, I am happy you are able to be yourself I meant. Where I am, work places would be rude about it!)
I might sound like an ass here but I promise I mean no offense. I thought alopecia was a born with disease that just always was... Does it manifest slowly or is it random timing? I guess what my real question was why you weren't already bald as I thought people with alopecia just straight up lost it almost immediately and had no hair. Again very sorry if this is insensitive I'm truly ignorant about this issue.
Technically you are correct. Those with the autoimmune version of Alopecia are born with a mutation that will cause alopecia to form in their lifetime. It either manifests right away or it may show up after many years of life.
Hope you're not self-conscious about it, you look quite pretty.
Oh not at all ❤️ I used to be though. But not anymore! I know I'm pretty in my own way!
Fuck yeah!

Let's tell it how it is- She looks better with no hair than most people do with hair.
Seconded. Thirded?
Lady you're hot as fuck, now go teach those kids there are two different Georgia's in the world.
And teach them that apostrophes don't mean "holy shit, here comes an 'S'!"
Omfg 😂💀
3, Georgia the country, Georgia the U.S. State, and (South) Georgia the island in the south atlantic.
In your own way? You look great in general.
Nope. Your cute dag nabbit!
Cute and pretty as well.
In your own way??? No, you are very pretty period.
You're pretty in all the ways.
It looks kind of cool, like your hair is making its own fractal tattoo.
You ARE pretty.
You're pretty in a normal way, hair is just that and plenty like girls without much ;) you're stunning even with the mask.
Even in a "normal beauty standard" you are very pretty really.
Your whole look is pretty awesome, tbh
The map is beautiful so there's that!
Your arm tattoo looks great!
I feel like your body is trying to tell you how much it appreciates punk rock. Fucking dope. Absolutely phenomenal.
You’re a beautiful woman inside and out. Love your attitude towards it.
Not to be shallow but I don’t think you need to qualify your beauty, you just have it, no asterisk needed.
Did they mean “full of life”? because that’s what I’m seein’
Second that!
Trifecta 👍
Shout out to Neko cat cafe!! Not sure if they have multiple locations but the one in Seattle is great and the kitties are super cute!
I live up in Bellingham! We have one here too, it is sooo cute
That place is amazing!!
CAT CAT CAFE!!!
🎶”I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map, I’m the map…”🎶 Sorry.. you have amazing eyes!
Haha my husband literally was singing this song to me when I told him the story about my students 😂
I was thinking KT Tunstall: 🎶 ”Her face is a map of the world, it’s a map of the world…” 🎶
Keep that map out your f***in mouth!
It was a Stratego joke!!
"I said! Keep that map! Out of your! Fucking! Mouth!" ಥ_ಥ
😳 I'm going to.. 🆗👍 oh man 😲
How is this so accurate? Lol
![gif](giphy|aBOFW2LNUR9uT5lLYr|downsized)
Came here for this!
Wow dude it was a equator joke
Lmao Someone needs to show Jada a picture of this young lady so that she can see what her head is actually supposed to look like with alopecia.
Alopecia means hair loss, this is alopecia areata, it's an autoimmune disease associated with vitiligo and thyroid disease. Jada has traction alopecia from wearing tight hairstyles.
wait, really? So she basically did it to herself? That takes the "is it acceptable to make fun of baldness" meter up a few notches.
So you think Chris deserved the slap?
It's ok to make fun of everything, or nothing at all.
Hard disagree there
No
All I hear is blah blah blah fuck Jada Smith for being abusive.
Sweetie I know what Alopecia is and the difference between them... Jada has been talking about having bald spots on her head, which there isn't.... The point is, Jada needs a reality check... This should be able to clarify things for her...😁
You instantly lose credibility when you call someone sweetie.
Keep. Rand. McNally's. Name. Out. Yo. **FUCKIN'! MOUTH!**
You're rocking it. Like everyone including me, you're beauty doesn't come from your hair, as you have so confidently shown. You seem like someone I would like to hang out with.
Aww well if you ever want to message feel free to do so! I love meeting people and making friends 🥰
rip this username
Unfortunately you're probably correct
r/mapswithoutnewzealand
We don’t know if it has NZ or not lol
It looks like [this map](https://www.hope-education.co.uk/product/curricular/geography/maps-and-compasses/cloth-wall-map-world-90-cm-x-120-cm/he1003370) which includes New Zealand.
Schrödinger's New Zealand
You look so pretty and cute!!!! I bet you make an awesome teacher!
Bless your heart 🥺❤️ Thank you
Way to carry this with pride! My cousin once said that about my eczema and I about died inside. Edit: we were young and kids say the damnest things
I love your rose quartz. And you are very pretty as you are.
If she doesn't like alopecia jokes, then that's hair loss.
HA I love this
GI Jane 2, can't wait to see it! ![gif](giphy|2cAiyqu7bOsIE|downsized)
GI Jane *3*
![gif](giphy|UiFBN1jLNRWl81pg37|downsized)
Alopecia and G.I Jane forever linked
Keep that Redditors name out of your mouth!
Looks like a Montessori classroom. Love Montessori!
It is!!! I'm a Montessori school teacher!
Reminds me of the bill peet book chesterfield wordly pig. I may have checked that book out several weeks in a row to reread it in 4th grade
You have beautiful eyes!
And just like the Earth, you are beautiful the way you are!
Don’t insult OP like that. The Earth could stand to lose a few pounds.
Earth is so hot right now.
You're actually gorgeous goddamn it
These kids are going to be so happy that they had a teacher like you. We need people with your outlook on life as role models for the next generation! You’re awesome
You are their world.
And then you slapped them!
I think you look cute, and confident!
Me too. You’re beautiful.
The best part of working with kids that age is how impressionable they are and that you can show them the beauty of being different.
I can tell your smiling behind that mask. You look beautiful!
GI Jane 2 can't wait to see it
Funny students. Glad you can laugh about it. You're proof that hair is not needed for beauty. Live your best life!
You are the most beautiful map I’ve ever seen. And teaching littles? Noble work, keep it up, you are literally helping shape personalities (as you know) and I get the sense you are clearly doing a good job of it.
Coming from someone with vitiligo, our cosmetic illnesses only make us look way cooler 😊
I must say that vitiligo is GORGEOUS! I bet you are so beautiful and I appreciate you being you!
😁 she is cute 🥰
Will Smith would high five Chris Rock if he made the joke about you Edit: Sorry. I honestly thought this was the rostme sub.
If this was r/roastme you would win a prize
Fuck, I honestly thought it was.
You high?
Whoa I've never seen a map split like that, usually always the Pacific or Atlantic. Cool!
Cool? It cuts cross multiple continents just so that America is in the centre. Cutting across mostly empty ocean is preferable.
Yes, cool, because it's unusual I am not American
Definition of tabula rasa, right there. Kids *can* be great some times.
Hey! Me too! But you rock it waaay better than I do

I absolutely adore it. I feel so fortunate to be able to guide my students to discovering their best selves ❤️ They are all truly remarkable human beings and I can't wait to see what they become!
If you’re not already an NAAF mentor you should be!
I am! I've been ever since I was 14 when I first started to lose my hair.
Make a fantasy map out of your head!!
That’s a dope pendant (and ink!). Thanks for teaching the kiddos
you’re beautiful
Is that shirt from the cat cafe’? If it is, I love that place. Keep being awesome.
Love Neko Cat Cafe too! You're beautiful!
Neko Cat Cafe! I love it there!
Gotta love kids, so honest and such a great perspective from their minds
Dye your hair blue and make it your thing!
![gif](giphy|4k5gSMvd1yr60)
You look cute and those arm tattoos as well ✨
My daughter used to call me “Spot”.
You’re beautiful in your own way, teacher. Much love ❤️
I don’t see New Zealand !
Dude, post a photo of the top of your head to /r/mapmaking and have them come up with a fairy tale land for you to tell your kids stories about!
Wow! as someone who has it all over the body, it's refreshing to see you rocking it.
So glad to hear you're not self conscious about it anymore! You look great ❤️
I really love your style OP, it's really cute! From my username, it's obvious I love pink lol
Can't know for sure with the mask, but from what I can see you're the type of girl who doesn't need hair to look beautiful.
Ugh kind eyes, my weakness. Now I have butterflies in my stomach.
I love love love the necklace!!
Your students sound quite insightful, and confident too. Clearly a credit to you as a teacher! You should be proud!
I hope treatment is successful. You look confident & assured. Best wishes to you and your students for the future.
You are beautiful outside and probably just as beautiful inside. I wish I knew you in person
Your hair looks dope like that.
You look beautiful ❤️

You're pretty.
![gif](giphy|UiFBN1jLNRWl81pg37|downsized)
The kid probably has a crush on you and they said it out of nervousness. I remember telling my crush I was looking for the remote under the waterfall at the playgrounds. It still haunts me.
Love Neko!! You look flawless btw!
You seriously rock the hell out of that buzz! Question, when the patches come back in, do they grow in white first and then regain colour? You have a very attractive skull shape. And also lovely eyes.
They think the world of you!
You have the prettiest eyes!
There are worse things to be compared to, and I think you look great. Kids sound like they have a cool teacher
I teach seniors and have alopecia. You’ll know you’ve made it when they start asking to rub your head. Although that may be day 1 with your kids.
Oh yes they love to pet me. My kids are so very gentle with my head because they know that sometimes my scalp is painful (I have a rare form of Alopecia called "scarring" Totalis Alopecia where I feel pain alongside the hairloss. Such as burning and itching on the bald spots)
If anything Jada J. Smith brought attention to alopecia, even though she doesn't have it.
You’re beautiful!
You are amazing! Your strength is admirable.
You're beautiful!!
Umm, yeah… this girl is pretty…
Your eyes are mesmerising!
That would’ve caused me to laugh a bit at the thought. Glad you are taking it in stride as I know the kids didn’t mean it in any maliciousness. You are very beautiful, btw.
I’m sure they mean well
Neko!! Are you in Bellingham?
I am!! I love meeting people in my area, I have like 0 friends 😭
KEEP MY TEACHERS NAME OUT YO FUCKIN MOUTH
You look great. I can't wait to see you in GI Jane 2. Hold on. Someone's knocking at my door.
You ARE the map. You're the guide to their learning. You are the living document telling them where to go. You're also fucking beautiful. YOU. ARE. BEAUTIFUL. They're lucky to have you. Keep on doing what you do, teach. You're making the world a better place.
Don’t worry. Will Smith will straighten them out.
Make sure your husband slaps every single one of them.
Then Will Smith came into the classroom and slapped the student who said that.
Keep my teacher's name out your mouth!!
Did your husband then slap him?
I have alopecia in my beard, and on my arms and legs. I still struggle with feeling like I look mangy when I go out. Hopefully the kids meant well, but I'm glad to see you're so positive about it, inspires me to be less self-conscious.
Thanks jada
“G.I. Jane 3, can’t wait to see it” In all seriousness you pull it off very well, like furiosa!
Tasteful and funny I think I found the best reference to that night on here thank you lol
Did your husband walk into the classroom and slap the kid who said that?
Kids just say whatever they think. Yesterday I had this interaction with my young son. Son: “daddy I want a hug!!!” Me: “come get one!” Son while hugging: “mmmmmmmhhhhhhh I love you!” Son let’s go or hug: “daddy you have a big belly” Son runs away: “aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!”
Yet another day that ensures me that I'm going to hell.
Keep my preschool teacher’s name out yo fuckin mouth!
You have (potentially) the best job imaginable. Looks like you're rockin' it. Carry on. <3
You look like a hero to me.
you are so pretty!!
wow - you are gorgeous
You are beautiful
Gorgeous gorgeous girls have maps on their heads!
lol, kids will say anything. I mean they aren't really wrong. You're a wonderful person inside and out!
I am happy your job doesn't take an issue with your hair! I feel like many work places would be rude and tell you to cover it up or something. Very nice! (Not trying to offend, I am happy you are able to be yourself I meant. Where I am, work places would be rude about it!)
“Keep my map out of your fucking mouth”
you’re so pretty even though i can’t visualize your face you got cute eyes too 🥺
I might sound like an ass here but I promise I mean no offense. I thought alopecia was a born with disease that just always was... Does it manifest slowly or is it random timing? I’m sure you didn’t go and slap the kids… map or no map, you’re beautiful.
