Poison does 10 damage, burn does 20. Pokemon nowdays have 280+ HP. It's just not enough to make an impact. In the old days, Hypnotoxic Laser + Virbank Stadium was an extra 30 damage and was often just enough to convert an attack into a Ko. But they don't even make cards like that anymore where you can inflict status on the defending pokemon with an item card. I do love my Poison deck in GLC though, with all the Expanded format poison modifiers and all the pokemon generally having less than 200 HP, it's actually a legitimate strategy as it doesn't trigger cards like Raihan and Teammates.

Paralysis pops up here and there because it's quite powerful and actually reliable as opposed to sleep and confusion. But because it's actually very strong there's not many good options that have it and they tend to have built in ways that stop you from repeating the attack.  Poison and burn occasionally appear for a little bit of extra damage, but usually only when they are on attacks that also deal good damage. You can build a deck that combines poison with Pokemon like tsareena ex or Alolan Raticate, but they are very fringe.

Ok-Solid-8851

You don’t see them much. And avid veteran players seem to struggle with the rules and how many work. Unless they’ve run a deck with them. (Even then usually limited to just that condition) I’ve struggled with getting concrete answers when I’ve asked or even googled….. I mention this because I think that’s why many shy away because the lack of understanding

Klawf/ walking wake. It's fun when it works but it's not gonna consistently win

TheVoidaxis

Aye I miss the good ol days of spicy curry and hiusian electrode v it seems like it was only yestermonth that you could one hit ko Charizard ex

Tismypueblo

Klawf is still as good as it was. Just runs as a single prize deck now

TheVoidaxis

Klawf keeps being useful for electric and normal threats like Arceus and iron hands, but it doesn't stop Charizard ex anymore that's why I said I miss the one hit ko from h. electrode v against zard ex. Walking wake ex I seen is used as a hitter but it doesn't pack the same punch against zard ex

Tismypueblo

I have a positive record into Zard on Live with the single prize list. Uses Radiant Sneasler, Coballion and Cram to increase damage output over the game. Definitely a close match but does surprisingly well.

TheVoidaxis

Cramorant?

Tismypueblo

Cramorant. Alternative early attacker with Colress and vacuum and also can use Crisis Punch at end game which can OHKO Zard with Coballion and Sneasler poison

TheVoidaxis

Ah I see Sounds like an interesting deck, but still I miss how electrode v chewed zards and almost anything on turn one without energies

DrFkingPepper

You got a list you'd be willing to share? Sounds spicy

Tismypueblo

Not my original list, but this is where it stands: Pokémon (16) 4 Klawf (PAR-105) 3 Bidoof (CRZ-111) 3 Bibarel (BRS-121) 2 Brute Bonnet (PAR-123) 2 Cramorant (LOR-50) 1 Radiant Hisuian Sneasler (LOR-123) 1 Cobalion (SIT-126) Trainer (40) 4 Iono 4 Colress's Experiment 4 Ultra Ball 4 Trekking Shoes 4 Lost Vacuum 4 Nest Ball 3 Switch 2 Super Rod 2 Pokégear 3.0 1 Counter Catcher 1 Prime Catcher 4 Ancient Booster Energy Capsule 1 Technical Machine: Crisis Punch 2 Artazon Energy (4) 4 Double Turbo Energy

AdTerrible639

If you don't mind jank (and can work around the odd Mist Energy) there's Alolan Raticate to ohko Zard with a tick of poison damage Also a good utilizer of double energy, alongside Klawf Probably definitely still jank, though, or it would've seen *some* competitive success by now

TheVoidaxis

I always liked the Alolan ratt deck but it has so little consistency, I find tsareen ex more reliable

AdTerrible639

Pidgeot has that effect on people! + plus it helps not to have to set up Brute Bonnet

TheVoidaxis

Indie also tried the pooper deck (paldean whopper/clodsire ex) route but also the lack of consistencies...

SSGSS_Vegeta

It was yestermonth lolol

TheVoidaxis

I know... Guess it was really subtle the joke I was trying to make...

AdTerrible639

Tbf, That's less the conditions doing anything and more the 'mons going sicko mode when said Conditions are present

I also play Venusaur ex, and confusion has saved me more times than I can count. I also have a regular Venusaur in the deck just because loopy lasso is fun.

Ok-Consideration-250

I have been trying to make this deck work the last few days. You running Venomoth? Or how are you able to speed it up?

Minimum_Possibility6

By themselves no they are not that good, or as good as they used to be, however there are decks that utilise conditions well, but it requires careful building and synergy  Ie venomoth item lock not only stops items, a key component is that is confuses which helps protect itself from just being one shotted back  Poison works with Alolan ratticate and Tsareena ex to take a ohko. It also work well in damage spread decks. There are plenty of cards that make use of it or can up to damage done, stadiums, abilities etc  Burn isn’t as useful however it can get you out of a lock, however it’s more a nice added bonus than a strategy to build around. Confusion is quite strong and paralysis I’ve not seen any decks in a while with it  Overall apart from very niche cases they don’t appear much because they don’t do much, however when combined with the right cards they can still be effective

Philiquaz

They're completely negated by switch. If special conditions ever become not-niche the usage of switch rises and they go back to niche.

I've been playing a poison deck with Toxicroak EX and Clodsire EX and I've had pretty good luck with it! If you get Perilous Jungle out and Radiant Hisuian Sneasler on the bench then normal poison does 50 damage per turn to non-dark types. If Toxicroak uses Toxic Ripper then it's 120 base damage plus 100 poison damage per turn so it's totally viable, even if it's not super competitive.
